It's rare for my wife and I to dine out during dinner time due to having a young toddler but luckily my MIL gave us a chance to go out for our 4-year wedding anniversary. I haven't had Omakase in a while and was excited to try out this spot. [[ Notes ]]: 1.) Give yourself time to get to the restaurant. It's so close to the Cal-Train Menlo Park station that we got delayed twice by the gates closing. 2.) Free 2-hour parking at the underground parking lot next to the restaurant. It is super well-lit and clean. One of the best garage parking lots I've been to in a while. 3.) It's a "pick your price" omakase ranging from $119 - $219. We opted for something close-ish to the middle and settled at $180 per person. This came with 18 small bites + 1 dessert. [[ Things I liked ]] 1.) Service - Absolutely amazing as the whole wait staff was very attentive. Every dish was described in detail, waters refilled all the time without asking, and constant checking in to make sure things are good. At one point we really liked the unique plates the food was being served on and the waiter immediately came over and told us who the artist was. Good attention to detail. 2.) Overall the fusion omakase was really good and I thought the 18 small bites + 1 dessert was a good mix. [[ Things I disliked ]] 1.) I think it would be nice if they actually had a large sign that has "Robin Menlo Park" so its easier to find. Instead they have a contemporary "robin" picture that is harder to find if you don't know what you are looking for. 2.) They play club/hip-hop music which is an interesting choice. I'm an older millennial so I didn't mind it much but I can see how it can be distracting since the volume is relatively loud. 3.) We arrived at 5pm and no one was there. As such, when we sat down, every single person was staring at us including the 6-7 chefs behind the counter. My wife thought it was so weird and was embarassed that so many people were staring at her the whole time. It got better as more guests arrived. 4.) Since there were so many dishes being served, I was hoping they could give me a set list at the end so I can remember what I ate but they don't do that which made me kind of sad. Next time I'll bring a pen and notebook so I can write it down. [[ Conclusion ]] Robin Menlo Park is quite a good restaurant. It can be pricey for the amount of food you get but we had a good time. I posted the small bites I loved the most as well as the full selection so you can take a glance. P.S. - the ending dessert was FRICKEN GOOD! Some coconut, macademia, frozen banana custard thing.

My friends and I were looking forward to having a nice omakase meal and decided to come to Robin after separately hearing it recommended by other friends. We opted to eat an earlier rather than alter dinner which worked out well for us. We parked in the local parking structure and almost missed the doorway but recognized their logo. Our server was very friendly and explained to us about the sliding scale. We told him our desired pricepoint which was originally going to be the middle of the rang...but also inquired whether some of our favorites like uni, wagyu, toro tartare would be included to which he mentioned what he could do for us. I opted to order a blood orange highball which was delicious and lasted me throughout about half of the meal. This is probably in part because the food comes out quite fast. It felt like there was very little downtime in between the dishes. We were quite impressed with the first few dishes that we ended up telling our server we would go for the max pricepoint. With our 20 some items plus dessert we ate pretty much nonstop for about 80 minutes. As the restaurant got busier and the music a tad louder, it got harder to hear the servers as they were explaining the items. Some stand out pieces for us were the nori chip, uni dishes, and the toro tartare medley that came with some wonton chips. I had a few other enjoyed nigiri although some were not as tasty as I have had at other places. I also really enjoyed their coconut soft serve dessert offering as it was a refreshing and delicious ending to the meal.

Reservations for a girl's night. Reservations highly recommended Quality was nice, but food was underwhelming considering the price, this place is more so a fusion spot in my opinion. I respect they had different tiers for omakase. We laughed at the fact on of the dishes where it was a fancy dehydrated potato of some sort, we thought it was a Pringle. Beautiful restaurant, lighting, dinnerware. Beautifully curated. They blasting clubbing music which just was odd, but didn't hate it. Very hip/trendy compared to traditional experience. So fancy ambience, but also casual bar vibes. If you're looking for more of a traditional omakase experience maybe skip. If you're looking for a more trendy, casual experience, I'd think you'll like it

Came by on a weeknight with reservations and didnt find the restaurant too busy. The restaurant itself is super intimate and cozy. Definitely perfect for a date night or even a cute girls night. The ambiance feels upscale without being stuffy and the whole experience felt very relaxed and thoughtful. One thing I really liked is that they let you customize your omakase experience by either choosing a price point (ranging around $119-$219) or selecting the number of courses you want. We opted for the $150 menu and ended up getting 15 courses, which felt like the perfect amount. And let me tell you... every single bite was spectacular. Don't ask me to remember the names of everything because I absolutely cannot haha but every course was fresh, beautifully presented, and genuinely delicious. You can tell they put a lot of care into balancing flavors and textures throughout the meal. Service was also excellent from start to finish , attentive, welcoming, and paced really well without ever feeling rushed. Parking is mainly street parking, but if you drive a little farther down there's also a garage with free parking for the first two hours, which made things easy. Overall, everything about the experience was wonderful and I would absolutely come back again.

We celebrated Valentine's here and it was delicious! It's 13-18 pieces, so we went with 15 pieces. I have to say, this is by far the SMALLEST nigiris I've had for Omakase.... I was worried it wouldn't be enough but it ended up being ok. I love that I was able to try Halibut liver-- absolutely delicious! It's something I have not tried before, so I appreciate being able to try new things. The ambiance is pretty hip with 2000s r&b/hip hop playing. Service was friendly and quick. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. It's not in my top 5 Omakase experience, but delicious nonetheless.

Robin will always have my heart! I've celebrated 3 of my birthdays between the Menlo Park and SF location and each one is always so special. It's always fun when you can pick your price point depending on fullness-we usually aim for around $180-200 which is perfect for the two of us. The staff is always very friendly and loves what they do! Food is sooooo good!!!! I can't express that enough! You can taste the freshness and the amount of detail to the each piece. Perfect for date night or if you want to go somewhere nicer for GNO.

    Christina N.

If you come here expecting fancy cuts of super exotic fish, you'll probably be disappointed. However, if you come with an open mind to try different types of fish each seasoned and dressed slightly differently to complement the flavors and also to cater to a less 'traditional' palette, then Robin can be a fun experience. We set our price point at around $140 and was served a good amount of food we felt full after. Our server confirmed our dietary restrictions and preferences, and was able to customize each piece to cater to everyone. My favorite piece was probably the uni wagyu seaweed crunch. We came for a work dinner and ended up finishing 3 bottles of sake and had a great time. We were probably responsible for destroying the ambiance as we probably got abnoxiously loud towards the end. Good option for date night or for an expensive company dinner :P

Been getting more into omakases lately and Robin was a pleasant addition to the repertoire. We opted for the $219 per person for 20 small bites, which was the max. I would personally recommend this if you are able to, as we felt that we could have eaten more. Contemporary local omakase is their specific cuisine and, luckily, that is right up our palettes. We had to literally slow ourselves down so that we weren't finishing everything too quickly, which was challenging to do since everything was delicious. Their modern and creative spins on some of the bites including sashimi mixed with papaya, fried onions, chicharron, as well as their signature potato chip and caviar nigiri were momentous. Additionally, their strawberry highball was delicious. We sat at the chef's counter which is always a delight. It was a bit hard to hear our chef, though, whenever he was announcing the food line-up. It would have been nice if they had provided a written menu as well; I already forgot the specific classifications when looking through my photos. Overall, I'd say Robin was a 4.5/5, but will round up.

Great venue. Clean and open. Servers were friendly and fast. Come in. Sit at the bar. Be amazed. That being said - their pricing model is so dumb. I really don't like the come in and set your price - model. I'll take a set priced omakase thank you. Maybe that's just me. But I'll get over it cause it was so good. I can usually tell is a place is going to be great by the rice. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the proper size (not too big) for a multi piece omakase. Fish were all excellent and generous. Toppings made each price unique and surprising You will not leave hungry - especially cause you set the price anyway so just as more. I'm posting just a few of the standout pieces - don't want to run the surprise.

    Ruby Z.

Such a fun unique concept! You tell them what you want to pay (within a range), and they craft a personalized onakase experience. Came here for a nicer dinner with friends. Street parking was easy to find along El Camino on a weeknight. When you walk in, it definitely has a cooler vibe and you're greeted with the classic Japanese welcome. Service was friendly and they explained the menu (or lack thereof) well. We opted for the middle of the range, so about $175pp. We each got 12 nigiri and 5 miscellaneous cold dishes/sashimi, along with a dessert. We were definitely full by the end! A couple standouts were the wagyu with foie gras and the uni tartare on seaweed chip. Definitely worth the splurge, and id love to come back one day and try their top tier!

    Katrina M.

I came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! What makes their omakase unique is that you choose the number of courses or price point, and the chef curates the rest of the experience. We opted for the 13-course option and it was the perfect amount for us. There were so many standout bites. Our honorable mentions were the Hokkaido uni, the truffle noodles, the salmon (every preparation was amazing), and the wagyu topped with foie gras shavings. Honestly, everything was incredibly good and thoughtfully prepared. As a sweet surprise, they even brought out ice cream with a candle for my birthday, which was such a nice touch. The food, service, and ambiance were all 10/10. Definitely one of the best omakase experiences I've had!

    Jomar A.

I told my friends I haven't done an omakase before and they did not disappoint with this place. I celebrated my birthday here and I can't express how impressed I am with the service and the ambiance. Everything added to the experience. The server went above and beyond to make everything special and worth it. The service here takes the crown out of all the places I've been to in the bay. He was very informative about everything and listened to everything we said. He curated our dishes to our liking and we just gave him a price. We opted for $210 a person? And he went straight to work. I can't express how delicious everything was. It was definitely heaven. There wasn't a single dish I didnt like.... Everything was amazing, just look at the pictures. The presentation when they were brought out and the explanation our server gave as each dish came out. Just perfect. I'd definitely come back if I wanted to splurge!!!

    Pearl R.

I was kind of underwhelmed with Robin. I was expecting more from the food and the service here. I had Robin SF a few years back and the flavors were good. But when I tried it here, I felt like the sauces and the marination was too much and I couldn't taste the fish at all. Also, I did not like how there was a range of prices and there was no menu that I can look to see what the different options were. Overall, I would say that this place is more fusion and a lot of flavors but if you like traditional sushi tasting, I would not recommend coming here

It has hamachi, avocado and then hamachi on top, each bite was a big mouthful piece, so yummy Super salmon roll: this was probably my most favorite, especially the torched salmon and tobiko on top. The service is nothing to write home about either. Their shop is small, and they staff only two waiters for the entire restaurant on a weekend afternoon. Those poor waiters were sprinting the entire time we were there. The food also took forever to make. Skewers had a 20-30-minute wait. The Sukiyaki hotpot entree took 40-50 minutes, and all they needed to do was slice the meat and arrange the veggies. We still had to cook the raw meat ourselves, mind you. I don't understand why it would take them 45 minutes to prep. Not being able to get a hold of the server to check on the status of our dish didn't help either, as they were busy zooming around because the restaurant was understaffed. Overall, there is a mismatch between the price they are charging and the overall experience we got. They either need to increase the portion or significantly increase the service to match the pricetag.

Everything we ordered was absolutely scrumptious and worth the price. Our favorites were the Crunchy Lobster Roll, packed with lobster salad, salmon, avocado & cucumber, tobiko, and topped with crunchy flakes and house sauce (a fresh roll) and the Wagyu & Sea Roll, which combined shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, and seared Kobe beef (a cooked roll)! Super rich and satisfying!! The Scallop Butter Yaki was also delicious, with very tender and naturally sweet scallops and seared mushrooms in house-made butter sauce. We also ordered Oyster Shooter, a good combination of oyster, ikura, quail egg, ponzu sauce, and sake. Shot was not too strong but very well combined! The highlight of our meal was definitely Beef Tongue Skewer (a daily special). We're very impressed, as the skewer was incredibly tender, fresh, and melted in our mouths. We paired everything with a Sho Chiku Bai Nigori sake, which is soooo warm and comforting, complemented our meal nicely. Service was very quick, and the staff was very attentive throughout our visit. The pacing was just right, nothing felt rushed, and each course was thoughtfully decorated! I enjoyed every moment during the experience. We started with warm house sake to warm up, and luckily it paired really nicely with the meal and made everything feel extra cozy. Then for the courses, I had: - Starter: Kumiage Yuba with light house sauce and wasabi, I'm so impressed!!! At first I thought I was eating some fish liver because the texture was similar, but turn out it's tofu and they makes it excellent! A very nice starter - Appetizer: Squid tempura, pickled radish, mushroom & veggies, and tamago. I really like the tempura, crispy but not greasy, nice mix of textures - Sashimi plate: 3 pieces of bluefin tuna otoro, very fresh and buttery, just melts in my mouth! Love it - Oden bowl: I'm so in love with the broth, sweet, umami and comforting. It had braised pork belly, radish and konjac jelly, and all taste amazing, could not find any words to complain - Grilled fish: a very simple dish with not much seasoning. Fish was paired with some salty pickled plum and sweet potato. - Steamed tofu with abalone: I really like abalone texture, they made it very tender and easy to chew. Also not much seasoning so that you can feel the natural taste of the seafood, love that! - Hotate scallop with persimmon sauce: I don't like persimmon that much, but the scallops taste fresh and sweet - Rice bowl with pickles and miso soup: this is the 2nd final course, they have 2 options to upgrade from the white rice, uni ikura (+$16) & A5 wagyu (+$26) - we have 2 people so we order both to try a little bit of everything. Both worth the upgrade, but I prefer a5 wagyu - Matcha yokan with red beans and hot tea: the dessert was a bit too sweet for me, even though they served with hot tea to balance. But still, a great dish! Overall, really solid omakase spot on the Peninsula. I'd definitely come back if I had the chance!

The decor felt understated and calming, and both the host and server were very kind and welcoming. Service was definitely on the slower side -- we started the first course around 1pm and dessert wasn't served until about 2:40pm -- but I suppose that's part of the intentional, course-by-course dining experience. We ordered one of the lunch set menus. A few thoughts on the dishes: * House made tofu - Delicious. Light, delicate, and creamy, topped with wasabi and soy sauce. 9/10 * Appetizer assortment - A box with four small dishes (Nanohana steeped in dashi, simmered daikon radish, Tai marinated in vinaigrette, tamago). The tamago was less sweet than what you'd usually get at sushi restaurants (just okay for me, 6/10). The daikon was tasty (7.5/10), the fish had good flavor but a firmer texture than I prefer (7/10), and the vegetables were well-prepared (7.5/10). Everything was served room temperature. Overall, the flavors and sauces were very mild and subtle, in line with more traditional Japanese cooking. * The sashimi dish was fresh and delicious. 9/10 * Pork belly with vegetables - The pork belly was extremely tender and flavorful, and the vegetables were cooked nicely. The sauce was delicious. I almost wished it came with rice, but it was lightly seasoned and balanced as-is. 8/10 * Gindara marinated in miso - Lovely buttery, flaky texture. I've had similar miso black cod dishes elsewhere that were a bit more flavorful, but still very enjoyable. 8/10 * Chawanmushi - Very smooth, custardy texture with hints of citrus/yuzu, crab, and shiso. The crab texture was nice, though I didn't get a ton of crab flavor. * Octopus - A bit too chewy for my taste, though it paired nicely with the sweetness of the plum. I especially liked the nagaimo (yam) for both flavor and texture. 7.5/10 * Rice with kelp, wasabi cucumber, and simmered baby sardines - The kelp had a great texture and slightly tangy flavor. The wasabi cucumber was a bit too salty for me, even with the rice, but the baby sardines were delicious with just a hint of salt. 8/10 * Miso soup - Nice and light. 8/10 * Dessert (matcha yo-kan) - Green tea jelly with raspberries. Nice texture, though I personally prefer more pudding-like desserts. Not overly sweet, but I'm generally not a fan of beans in desserts. 7.5/10 One especially thoughtful touch: they served dessert to my mom on a special plate with additional Japanese candies and little origami pieces made by the staff. It felt very warm and personal. Overall, a good experience. They also offer à la carte options in addition to the set menus. The space feels intimate and would probably be best for smaller groups or quieter meals.

The space is intimate, with only 8 counter seats, so you're served directly by chef Li. To my surprise, all of the seats were full on a Friday at lunch. I didn't want to drink too much at lunch, but they had a $29 sake flight of three 1.5 oz pours, which was just the right amount to pair with the sushi but still be able to go back to work after lunch! Pre sushi: 1. Pickled baby ginger: I love this stuff, and he was good about refilling it 2. Crab with Japanese citrus jelly and shiso: a generous amount of sweet, fresh crab 3. Ankimo: two pieces, served with wasabi 4. Signature octopus: massaged 1 hour and stewed 1 hour - very flavorful and tender 5. Steamed abalone: served over soba with abalone liver sauce 6. Seaweed shot 7. Chawanmushi with scallops and caviar Sushi: 1. Hokkaido scallop with yuzu and sea salt 2. Spanish mackerel 3. Akami: lean bluefin tuna 4. Kinmedai: golden eye snapper, torched 5. Isaki: 3 line grunt fish 6. Kelp cured black snapper, shiso leaf, yuzu 7. Chutoro 8. Saba: mackerel with kelp 9. Otoro: torched, topped with uni The scallop and kinmedai were the highlights for me. We also got one of the à la carte add ons: the hand chopped fatty tuna and uni hand roll. To finish: red miso soup At the end, you can watch the chef preparing the bento boxes, which was a good reminder for me to keep my eye out for the next available pickup. The fish was high quality, and the pieces were cut to the right size (I've been to way too many places with unappealingly large cuts). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and pacing was consistent. For the quality and quantity of food, as well as the service and dining experience, this was a hot deal for $125 a person. We will definitely be coming back!

The presentation is also lovely. I also loved the pickled ginger (that they keep refilling for you). Overall would highly recommend!
