We celebrated Valentine's here and it was delicious! It's 13-18 pieces, so we went with 15 pieces. I have to say, this is by far the SMALLEST nigiris I've had for Omakase.... I was worried it wouldn't be enough but it ended up being ok. I love that I was able to try Halibut liver-- absolutely delicious! It's something I have not tried before, so I appreciate being able to try new things. The ambiance is pretty hip with 2000s r&b/hip hop playing. Service was friendly and quick. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. It's not in my top 5 Omakase experience, but delicious nonetheless.

My friends and I were looking forward to having a nice omakase meal and decided to come to Robin after separately hearing it recommended by other friends. We opted to eat an earlier rather than alter dinner which worked out well for us. We parked in the local parking structure and almost missed the doorway but recognized their logo. Our server was very friendly and explained to us about the sliding scale. We told him our desired pricepoint which was originally going to be the middle of the rang...but also inquired whether some of our favorites like uni, wagyu, toro tartare would be included to which he mentioned what he could do for us. I opted to order a blood orange highball which was delicious and lasted me throughout about half of the meal. This is probably in part because the food comes out quite fast. It felt like there was very little downtime in between the dishes. We were quite impressed with the first few dishes that we ended up telling our server we would go for the max pricepoint. With our 20 some items plus dessert we ate pretty much nonstop for about 80 minutes. As the restaurant got busier and the music a tad louder, it got harder to hear the servers as they were explaining the items. Some stand out pieces for us were the nori chip, uni dishes, and the toro tartare medley that came with some wonton chips. I had a few other enjoyed nigiri although some were not as tasty as I have had at other places. I also really enjoyed their coconut soft serve dessert offering as it was a refreshing and delicious ending to the meal.

Been getting more into omakases lately and Robin was a pleasant addition to the repertoire. We opted for the $219 per person for 20 small bites, which was the max. I would personally recommend this if you are able to, as we felt that we could have eaten more. Contemporary local omakase is their specific cuisine and, luckily, that is right up our palettes. We had to literally slow ourselves down so that we weren't finishing everything too quickly, which was challenging to do since everything was delicious. Their modern and creative spins on some of the bites including sashimi mixed with papaya, fried onions, chicharron, as well as their signature potato chip and caviar nigiri were momentous. Additionally, their strawberry highball was delicious. We sat at the chef's counter which is always a delight. It was a bit hard to hear our chef, though, whenever he was announcing the food line-up. It would have been nice if they had provided a written menu as well; I already forgot the specific classifications when looking through my photos. Overall, I'd say Robin was a 4.5/5, but will round up.

Great venue. Clean and open. Servers were friendly and fast. Come in. Sit at the bar. Be amazed. That being said - their pricing model is so dumb. I really don't like the come in and set your price - model. I'll take a set priced omakase thank you. Maybe that's just me. But I'll get over it cause it was so good. I can usually tell is a place is going to be great by the rice. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the proper size (not too big) for a multi piece omakase. Fish were all excellent and generous. Toppings made each price unique and surprising You will not leave hungry - especially cause you set the price anyway so just as more. I'm posting just a few of the standout pieces - don't want to run the surprise.

Such a fun unique concept! You tell them what you want to pay (within a range), and they craft a personalized onakase experience. Came here for a nicer dinner with friends. Street parking was easy to find along El Camino on a weeknight. When you walk in, it definitely has a cooler vibe and you're greeted with the classic Japanese welcome. Service was friendly and they explained the menu (or lack thereof) well. We opted for the middle of the range, so about $175pp. We each got 12 nigiri and 5 miscellaneous cold dishes/sashimi, along with a dessert. We were definitely full by the end! A couple standouts were the wagyu with foie gras and the uni tartare on seaweed chip. Definitely worth the splurge, and id love to come back one day and try their top tier!

I came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! What makes their omakase unique is that you choose the number of courses or price point, and the chef curates the rest of the experience. We opted for the 13-course option and it was the perfect amount for us. There were so many standout bites. Our honorable mentions were the Hokkaido uni, the truffle noodles, the salmon (every preparation was amazing), and the wagyu topped with foie gras shavings. Honestly, everything was incredibly good and thoughtfully prepared. As a sweet surprise, they even brought out ice cream with a candle for my birthday, which was such a nice touch. The food, service, and ambiance were all 10/10. Definitely one of the best omakase experiences I've had!

I was kind of underwhelmed with Robin. I was expecting more from the food and the service here. I had Robin SF a few years back and the flavors were good. But when I tried it here, I felt like the sauces and the marination was too much and I couldn't taste the fish at all. Also, I did not like how there was a range of prices and there was no menu that I can look to see what the different options were. Overall, I would say that this place is more fusion and a lot of flavors but if you like traditional sushi tasting, I would not recommend coming here

Generally enjoyed my experience at Robin! I had heard good and not so good things so I was prepared for anything. Some things I heard were that they did non traditional dressings... I had also heard the quality of the fish was soso. From my experience I enjoyed the non traditional dressings cause I feel trad gets boring/stale. I got the $219 option for 22 bites total (1 was dessert) avging out to $10/piece which is honestly pretty good value. Is the quality the most premium... No but it's def solid. If you're looking for something more fun and non traditional and with multiple budgetary tier options, def give Robin a shot!

If I could give Robin more than 5 stars, I would. I grew up in the South Bay and have had my fair share of good sushi in the area. But Robin is by far the absolute best experience I've ever had. Every single time I've come here, I'm truly shocked at both the quality of the fish and the quality of the customer service. I've been here twice now, like... within the same week. It's that good. I won't go into massive detail over each dish I had because that would be quite the task - just know that they basically ask you how many pieces you want to eat and then tailor the entire experience around that number. It's so much better than the standard omakases you might find elsewhere (where they offer just one or two pre-set numbers). The one thing I absolutely LOVED outside of the fish was the coconut soft serve they gave us at the end - it had the most delicious miso caramel sauce and little chocolate shavings on top. A must-have when you come here. Truly the best experience and I will always be back every time I'm in town.

Came back for our anniversary dinner. It was still a nice experience overall, but didn't hit as good as the first time. The courses felt a bit repetitive, especially with the types of fish and meat we were getting. Still solid quality, just not as memorable as our first visit.

back again so sooon bc it was jus so good. sliiiighttttt change to and i ate last time and more sake consumption this time too - i think i need to cut it out next time lol. the price is also jus so worth it! it's def become my go to omakase for now. def wanna try the bento to go if they still have it!

Mark N.

Don't get me wrong, the quality here is good and service is nice. I just don't know if it's worth the starting price. I'm no sushi expert, and I only lived in Japan for a combined two years, but my experience at Robin was just ok. You choose your own price point, and so I went with $200 (I think they start at $130), while my family members did something in between to test out how different the experience would be. My price point had around three extra bites, which were just different displays of uni (sea urchin) and wagyu to justify the extra I paid. Drinks were fine (we tried a few cocktails, liquor and draft beer). Environment gives fancy dinner vibes with the dark tones and lighting, but also casual since it's Menlo Park, and it was a nice birthday dinner we had a gift card for. But I wouldn't come back unless my company or some rich friend paid for it since I can get full on good sushi elsewhere.

What a stunning omakase experience!! The service was fantastic -- waters constantly refilled, empty plates taken away quickly, and regular check ins. Ambiance of the restaurant is lovely and I enjoyed sitting at the bar looking into the kitchen. I've had a number of omakase experiences that have all blended into each other, but Robin easily stands out at the top. There were so many unique flavor combinations that I'd never tasted before! Although pricey, it felt worth it to try new flavors and textures for the first time. They also liberally use premium ingredients that elevate the whole experience (foie gras, caviar, truffle, wagyu, uni). I noticed California influence in the first half of the dinner (stone fruit, edible flowers, fresh produce), and super interesting "fusion" flavors in the second half (Korean kimchi crudo, Chinese sesame noodles, and a Thai-inspired salad)!

The space is intimate, with only 8 counter seats, so you're served directly by chef Li. To my surprise, all of the seats were full on a Friday at lunch. I didn't want to drink too much at lunch, but they had a $29 sake flight of three 1.5 oz pours, which was just the right amount to pair with the sushi but still be able to go back to work after lunch! Pre sushi: 1. Pickled baby ginger: I love this stuff, and he was good about refilling it 2. Crab with Japanese citrus jelly and shiso: a generous amount of sweet, fresh crab 3. Ankimo: two pieces, served with wasabi 4. Signature octopus: massaged 1 hour and stewed 1 hour - very flavorful and tender 5. Steamed abalone: served over soba with abalone liver sauce 6. Seaweed shot 7. Chawanmushi with scallops and caviar Sushi: 1. Hokkaido scallop with yuzu and sea salt 2. Spanish mackerel 3. Akami: lean bluefin tuna 4. Kinmedai: golden eye snapper, torched 5. Isaki: 3 line grunt fish 6. Kelp cured black snapper, shiso leaf, yuzu 7. Chutoro 8. Saba: mackerel with kelp 9. Otoro: torched, topped with uni The scallop and kinmedai were the highlights for me. We also got one of the à la carte add ons: the hand chopped fatty tuna and uni hand roll. To finish: red miso soup At the end, you can watch the chef preparing the bento boxes, which was a good reminder for me to keep my eye out for the next available pickup. The fish was high quality, and the pieces were cut to the right size (I've been to way too many places with unappealingly large cuts). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and pacing was consistent. For the quality and quantity of food, as well as the service and dining experience, this was a hot deal for $125 a person. We will definitely be coming back!

We really recommend checking out their off menu items (they will hand you a hand-written note when you get there) because the chef is just clearly so talented. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Nigiri (off menu): Have to be honest, I was actually pretty scared to try ankimo (Google said it's monkfish liver - like who even dare to eat liver ), but I'm so glad I did. It wasn't fishy or difficult to eat at all, but incredibly rich and creamy. I'm obsessed!!! * Otoro (off menu): This was the star. The tuna belly was pure umami, super fatty, buttery, and literally melted the second it hit my tongue - really recommend ordering this one * Lobster Roll (off menu): As a girl who's on calories deficit, my body screams for help when I found out it had shrimp tempura (I tried to avoid fried food), but this roll was so damnnnnn savory! It's made of lobster, shrimp tempura and a combo of eel sauce, spicy mayo, and tobiko - no need anymore dipping sauce cause they were just phenomenal * Kaisen: This was a refreshing roll - made of tuna, salmon, hamachi (yellowtail), and white tuna. Shiso (perilla) really enhanced the flavor of the fish and brought fresh taste that I think is the best pairing for any sushi/sashimi dish * Woodside Roll: This was the only miss for us. It uses minced spicy tuna, which honestly ruined the texture and flavor of the fish. We prefer tasting the real meat rather than a mash :( Overall, we like everything that we order, and our bill came out at around $100 for all that we had (budget friendlyyyyy) and we were really satisfied with the sushi quality. Will we go back? Definitely! Do we recommend it to our friends? Heck yeah!
