What I ordered: Stanford roll: it had a nice mix of spicy tuna, crab, avocado, hamachi, with the sauces tying everything together really well Nigiri combo: 9 pieces of chef's choice fish and a lot of them were fish belly cuts which are fattyyyyy and melt in your mouth Hamachi lover: surprisingly my 2nd favorite (I normally don't like hamachi that much). It has hamachi, avocado and then hamachi on top, each bite was a big mouthful piece, so yummy Super salmon roll: this was probably my most favorite, especially the torched salmon and tobiko on top. Salmon wrapped around spicy salmon and cucumber. Overall, everything tasted clean and well balanced, nice rice ratio. Nothing felt off, I had no complaints at all. We came a little early for dinner. It was empty when we walked in, so we were seated immediately. We ordered a rainbow roll, a salmon don, agedashi tofu, and karaage. After we ordered, we received a complimentary edamame. Since we were the only ones seated, we received a lot of attention from the staff. Overall, the fish quality was great! The salmon don was garnished with a bit of shiso, which I had initially set aside. A staff member noticed, and mentioned that it was his favorite, and it pairs great with the salmon. My taste buds unfortunately disagree, but it was kind nonetheless for him to step up. As for appetizers, the agedashi tofu was soft, and the sauce was light and pleasant. Seafood yaki udon - Tasty with a decent amount of small sized scallops and pieces of shrimps (not whole shrimps, just cut into smaller pieces). I would've preferred not to have bean sprouts in it. Bento box with salmon teriyaki and chicken katsu - Chicken katsu were thin pieces but the breading to chicken ratio was perfect. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Salmon teriyaki was pretty small but it tasted good. Baked scallop roll - This is a must get! Hamachi roll - Thought there was a bit too much rice in this roll and the quality of hamachi was ok. A newish restaurant at the same location as the long-tenured Naomi Sushi. QR code is available for ordering but we ordered through the waiter. We tried some nigiri. The size of cuts was unstingy and fulfilling. Most of what we had tasted above-average fresh. Rice stayed firm in chopsticks. We especially enjoyed Kampachi, Hamachi and Tai (all with melt in mouth smoothness). The only exception being Hokigai which was rubbery and tasted old. Vegetables tempura were just about average. The sushi master has been behind the counter for 20+ years (formerly a Naomi chef) and crafts beautiful rolls. I liked that they used real crab in the California roll. We've gone here many times and it used to be our go to sushi spot, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. This last visit was a total disappointment from start to finish. The fish was terrible on many levels. It wasn't fresh like it used to be and the presentation was shockingly bad. There were multiple pieces piled on top of each other and inconsistent sizes throughout the order. To top it off, the toro was so dark and unappealing that the person bringing out kept insisting it was beef! There service has declined significantly; when we brought these glaring issues to their attention the response was a dismissive "uh, I don't know what to do" Inside it was calm and quiet as usual, not too crowded and we were sat on the back. Also we heard the staff confront another guest arguing about reservations and if they were valid. Again disappointing and upsetting not what we've come to expect. read more

I remembered having a nice dine-in experience here about a year ago and decided to order takeout from them for dinner. I've seen my fair share of understaffed, inefficient sushi restaurants around the Bay Area, but this one was the worst by far. One staff member was handling all the tables, phone calls, and pickups alone. Online orders were running so behind that there were more people waiting for takeout than for seats. There was no online status update or verbal update when my order was ready, leaving it to sit on the counter getting to room temperature. The wine selection is nearly nonexistent, and the sake list--while curated--is priced so high that it feels out of step with an otherwise inviting dining experience. Unfortunately, there are no accessible or affordable options, which creates a noticeable gap for guests looking to enjoy a balanced evening without overspending on drinks. In short: We love your sushi but your beverage program should be more in line with your food offerings, with more affordable sake and a greater wine selection for the wine lovers because not everyone enjoys Sake and you are also missing a great up sales opportunity. Chardonnay was completely void from the menu and according to Google, it is the most popular white wine, Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular red wine. Bottomline, we like to drink while we eat and I enjoy certain Sake's and my wife only drinks Chardonnay, but for $50-100 per bottle for Sake or $25-50 per glass, I didn't want to spend that much on an alcoholic beverage. The chicken katsu was so crispy, delicious, large portions, I was very surprised to see my plate when I received it! This is a relatively nice place in terms of interior and location. It's quiet and has a traditional Japanese flair, but that is really where it ends. The food is not great. Everything is done just ok, but not good, and hence three stars. I want to comment especially on sashimi and sushi. I personally like the traditional Japanese thin cut sashimi and the thick cut makes me nauseous. 3cm pieces as in the picture is like eating a raw meat stake - not appetizing, especially if fish has fiber in it. We didn't touch the sashimi. I really love sushi but this cut makes me averse to it. The roll was not well done either - it was oddly shaped and barely hanging together. Amino ok but shouldn't be served on a cucumber that robbs it of its delicate taste, and Uni - not sure of the quality, but it's not premium. Either way - I wouldn't bother with this place, not for the price. read more

Hirotaka uses peanuts in their house salad dressing, which, first of all, is inauthentic to Japanese cuisine, and second of all, dangerous to use as an ingredient in all of their side salads without an allergen warning. My partner and I, both of whom have severe peanut allergies, ate at this restaurant to-go, and didn't ask if there were peanuts in a Japanese salad dressing because... why would there be peanuts in a Japanese salad? We both had severe allergic reactions and needed to seek emergency medical care. I am Japanese and did not think in 1 million years I would be served peanuts in a Japanese house salad.
