We went to Robinson HW this morning to drop off our broken lawnmower for repair. Two employees took it upon themselves to remove our lawnmower from the back of my Lexus without our verbal consent. The manager of the repair department was present for the initial removal. He then went inside. When the employees placed the lawnmower on the ground, it was apparent that one of the employees had misjudged the distance from the car. My rear bumper received a huge gash, as a result of his negligence. One of the two employees was extremely contrite. The other was silent. The contrite employee went to get the manager. When the manager came back to us, he immediately stated " We are not responsible for loading or unloading any vehicles," although he said NOTHING when his employees were removing the lawnmower from my vehicle. When my wife went inside to deal with the paperwork for the lawnmower, the manager reiterated several times that the damage to my car was not Robinson Hardware's responsibility and refused to apologize. When my wife pressed him on his position he threatened to refuse service because she was giving him a "hard time." Now I have a $1,000 repair that's my responsibility. read more

I get my mowers and snow blower serviced at Robinson's in Framingham. They've always done great work and return the equipment quickly. They also clean it! I have them pick-up and drop-off which is huge since I don't have a truck. It costs a little extra but is worth it. They even once picked up my girlfriend's grandparent's snow blower even though they are technically out of range. Now that's wanting to help! The service department is knowledgeable and friendly. I bought my Honda mower here, and will continue to support them any way I can. I have also rented a portable generator from the Hudson store when they didn't have it at Framingham, and they are just as awesome there! I love supporting this small business because they are so focused on helping me. That's hard to find at big box stores. read more

20 years ago I found Robinson's when I needed to get my 2 year old snowblower tuned up for winter. They did a great job then and still do. Before each season I get my snowblower tuned up there and my lawn mower tuned up in the spring. I still have and use my 20+ year old snow blower and my lawn mower with over 600 hours on original motor. Thanks to Robinson's they keep my equipment running great. read more

Horrible customer service in the service department. Avoid and find someone different who knows about customer service and how to talk to a paying customer on the phone. Called Robinson's at the beginning of March to have a tune-up performed on my tractor prior to the spring/summer mowing season. Originally was given a turn around time of the end of May. After almost 2 months of hearing nothing, I called for a check in to see where it is and a status of it being returned. Was informed it was just brought to the repair center the day prior to my call and will still be a few more weeks before the work is done and it would be sent back. I asked for the tractor to be returned as this is unacceptable at how long their turn around time is and if Robinson's can help cover the cost of the delivery back. At this point the representative became very unreasonable, rude, and interrupted every time i tried to ask a question. I asked for my tractor to be returned without the service being performed, and was told "it will be a few weeks to get it back depending when we are in your area" and that i would not be able to do future business with them for service. Extremely unreasonable and rude to tell someone they cannot use your future services all because Robinson's current turn around times are extremely prolonged. I will continue to keep shopping at Lowe's and no longer be supporting this local business and find other venues for lawn equipment service in my area. read more

Order #87191 tag 223503 I will NEVER, NEVER use Robinson's Service again. They told us they could tune-up our lawn tractor and get it back by early April, that was mid-March. Now we can't get it back serviced until June. The grass will be over our house! They changed us $75 to pick to up and deliver it. We told them to bring it back and skip the tune-up. After chasing them for a week they agreed to return it unserviced, but we had to pay the $75. Talk about bait and switch! Customer service does not exist! I am pissed the off! We got our mower back unservice but still got charged $75 pick up and delivery fee. read more

I needed a snowblower. I called Robison's hardware. They had the one I wanted. When I went to store they showed the models and explained how to operate them. I needed it delivered prior to an upcoming storm. They said they would do the best they could to deliver on time. They were able to deliver me prior rot storm. They showed great customer service and followed through on all they said they would. read more

I go here at least once a week! I always need something - and they have a decent selection of most stuff. This is very much what every town used to have before Lowe's and them came and messed it all up. Well, I go to Lowe's a lot, too. But this place is practically walkable from where I live. So I drive here once a week and get light bulbs, bird seed, keys copied, paint, pieces of aluminum I cut and bolt to fix random things - and that's just this year so far! Sure there are Gen Z's working the registers looking at their phones, but some of them are nice kids. I say kids because everyone looks like a kid to me, especially since my eyes ain't what they used to be. But yes, I do love this place and go here all the time for stuff. It's a really large hardware store and they'll have what you need, I'm sure. read more

Customer service in their service department seem clueless. They picked up my riding mower back in February and diagnosed it on 2/21/24 saying it was not worth repairing on the estimate. No one ever called, and when I called the service department, they never bothered to look at the estimate and tell me the status instead told me they were waiting for parts. I called again a month later and was told almost ready just waiting for an oil filter, three weeks later I went in and was told waiting for a starter. All this was puzzling because they never called with the estimate, and I never agreed. Last week went back in and it seems the guy finally found the estimate dated 2/21/ with the diagnosis. I never got one phone call from them and now I am waiting for them to return it. This was the Hudson store, wish the customer service would have just told me from the start the problem. TL;DR: Don't go there for service of lawn equipment. Service is terrible. My experience is shockingly similar to Bryan Cavaco's (May 2022). I contacted Robinson's on April 12 to have my tractor serviced. It needed some transmission work and a tune up. I was told that it would not be ready until the end of May, and that they would not be out to pick it up for a couple of weeks. I was surprised to receive a call the next day (April 13) saying that they could actually come get the tractor the following day (April 14.) That went off without a hitch, and had me feeling positive about their level of service. On May 26th, I called to check on the status. I was told that the tractor had not yet "gone out" for service, but that "it might be in the next batch" to go out. I pressed on this, as the tractor was out of my possession, just sitting around for roughly 6 weeks. On pressing, I was told it would go out the next day (May 27) and that usually the work is done inside of a week, but with Memorial Day it would probably be the week after (week of June 6th) that I received a call to schedule delivery back to my house. Today is June 15 - having heard nothing from them, I called today to get an update. I was told that they looked at it, but don't recommend repairing the tractor because it needs to have the transmission replaced, because "it's a bad transmission, they're known for doing this." While that may be the case, I was quoted $1600 for the work and he said I should just buy a new tractor. He then asked what I would like them to do, and I said I just wanted the tractor back (as I am paying $120 for the round-trip delivery service.) After telling me that "when they do diagnostics like this, sometimes they just leave it as parts, so you might get it back as parts" (for a $65 fee, no less) he went on to say that it would be "a couple weeks" before they could deliver the tractor back to me, because "we almost decided not to do deliveries to your town because it's so far away." (it's 26 miles round trip, and I am *paying* $120 for that) What's worse, is after having the tractor gone for 2 months, receiving no proactive contact from them, and being told in the end that it's not fixed, he couldn't even give me a firm date of when they might be able to deliver it back. After much back and forth, I was able to get him to agree to a date, but I am not confident that this will be the case. So, $185 for them to steal my tractor for 9 weeks, not fix it, take it apart and (maybe) not put it back together, and then deliver it back to me whenever it's convenient for them. On May 8, 2023 I took my Honda mower to Robinson's because the blades weren't working/cutting. The charge for service is $80.00. Received a call mower was ready to be pickup. At service counter I was charged another $10 and on receipt it read: "Removed large amount of old grass, leaves & debris from under and all around cables, levers, springs & belt. After clearing debris I found no issue with blades spinning. Tested several time during the work day with same results". In the backyard I had the staff start the mower, but I didn't check the blades (to see if they turn) and went home. A few days later I went to cut the grass and the blades didn't cut. Called Robinson's service dept and got the run-around from the desk clerk. All kinds of reasons, how the original service was written up. This is called "Rhetoric". Can you give zero stars? Rented a piece of equipment that was in poor shape and didn't work properly. The guys in the yard agreed with me. I simply requested a refund given the equipment came nowhere near doing what it was supposed to. Steve in rentals was unreasonable and blamed user error. Poor listener, his customer service was even worse. Just an unreasonable and unpleasant guy. Just beware, if you choose to rent from Robinson's and you're dissatisfied, the only option you'll be offered is to hike back and use another piece of equipment that may be as old and ineffective as the first piece. Not only was Steve a jerk but after trying to argue my case he said that I'm no longer allowed to rent from them. Didn't think black listing in the retail/rental/customer service business was all that wise these days. Despite the black list I would never have entertained renting from them again. Sad to say, don't bring your chainsaw chains for sharpening to Robinson's. I had them sharpen a new chain that had been used for just a few hours. What I got back was butchered. Each and every tooth had been burned by their grinder, and pretty much every tooth had a large burr. It seems that whoever does the sharpening has no idea how to do it properly. I shopped here a couple of times. Overall, prices seemed to be a bit higher as compared to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Aubuchon hardware. Staff was friendly and they offered a wide variety of merchandise. I'll continue to shop here for quick-needs items, but stick to Lowe's for larger trips. read more

Stay away from the rentals. I rented a carpet cleaner. The thing blew water and foam all over the floor. I had to quit after two rooms because the carpet was getting soaked and the soap foam was spraying all over the walls. When I showed them the video, they didn't apologize, didn't offer a refund, just told me to show the video to the guys that unload the rentals. Rented a boom lift from them. They dropped it off at 9 AM. The next morning, the guy shows up and takes it away at 8 AM without me calling for a pickup when I still had at least an hour more work to do before I was finished. Now I have to find a new boom lift to finish the job. Never going back to this store again. read more

I was just here to get a partially empty propane tank refilled. In the end, I got charged $19 (the price to fully refill an empty tank). Normally that would be ok, but in this case I not only called ahead to confirm that they did partial refills, but clarified my needs to the clerk up front after she tried to charge me the standard $19. I was greeted by someone who got radioed in back where the propane fills happen. After I told him it was half full, he took my tank and filled it. When I asked how many pounds he put in so I could pay, he just said "oh, uh, I didn't reset the meter". Great help. I could have gone to any number of hardware stores around who will also make you pay full price for half of what you want. What is troublesome is that I specifically asked over the phone, went out of my way to come here, and clearly asked at the registers but was still charged full price! The manager's excuses, "90% of people just fill up when it is empty, not partially empty" and "we used to do it like that, but the new rental manager stopped which I don't agree with". Rather than continuing to argue or get anywhere with him, I decided to leave and let other people know what a terrible experience I had. I was in need of filling my propane tank and called down to see if Robinson's did it. Thankfully they did! I brought my old tank down there and when they went to fill it, thankfully they saw the age of it and said that I would need a new one because tanks are only good for 12 years. Mine was 16 years old. No one else seemed to care about my safety as these guys did. I bought a new tank through them and they filled it. I mean filled it!! So much cheaper to have these guys do it than swapping them at Lowe's or any other big box store! Don't believe me, go get your next tank filled by them... you'll thank me. read more

I rented a power washer and I had to return it because it did not work as suppose to be. No pressure (same as my garden hose). The rental contract says if returned in 1 hour you get total refund. You should know they do not respect their own rule. The vendor insinuated I got the job done in less than an hour ... Robinsons Hardware provided phenomenal customer service that saved me hundreds of dollars!!! Recently, I purchased a North Star (Powerhorse) generator online. The distributor used a shipping company to deliver the generator. I spent several more hundred dollars on an electrician to set up my house to be able to use the generator easily when I lost power in the stormy Northeast winters. The new generator worked perfectly, except ... it didn't produce any output power! The manufacturer was very difficult to work with and would not help me very much. Instead, I had to take the brand new piece of equipment to an authorized service center. Needless to say, I'm glad I chose Robinsons. Their mechanics in the service center assessed the problem and determined that the equipment had been significantly damaged during shipping. They made the case for me with North Star that I had not caused the damage. As a result, North Star authorized shipment of a new generator. Robinsons took care of all the paperwork and communication with North Star. I was so appreciative of their time and effort to assist me. Unfortunately, the next generator that was sent to me also was damaged during shipment. I contacted Robinsons again, and they helped guide me through the process to make sure I could recoup my costs and return the item. I now plan on buying a generator locally ... and will likely use Robinsons because I am so pleased with their customer service and service center. I strongly recommend Robinsons because it is a local, small business with superb customer service, a reliable service center, and experienced employees/technicians. read more

Be careful when you rent from here. Although their prices are a few bucks lower than home depot your total will come out higher cause of the add ons. They tack on a damage waiver to the rental plus charge you for any overtime. I was over by 50 mins when I returned the equipment and they charged me for it, the hourly charge is higher than daily charge and they add the damage waiver to it too.. I will be super careful renting from here in the future. read more

Robinsons staff is always very friendly, courteous and accommodating - it is exactly the type of small business that needs to be supported before Lowes or Home Depot push them out. Every experience that I've had at Robinsons has been nothing short of exemplary and I plan on going with them for all future hardware/tool/power tools/equipment purchases while I'm in the area. One particular experience that I wanted to highlight: I was having issues with keys that had been cut and needed to be touched up twice after the initial key cutting before they would work. Unfortunately the door requires a larger key-head than normal (for extra torque) in order to be opened (on two different occasions, two different smaller keys have broken off into a prior handle and the replacement handle is just as stiff). Robinsons charged when the keys were cut (as expected) but didn't argue about brushing them up on the other two subsequent trips even though they were months apart. My husband and I have been living in the area and going to Robinsons for 25 years. I assumed a small shop would treat its customers better but I will probably end up at Lowe's from now on. I needed to match a paint to the color of my car for a little touch up work A boy helped me by spraying tiny amounts of three colors of paint on a white piece of paper and we tried matching it to the paint chip I had brought in. I thought that was wonderful service but when I got it out to the car and tried it it was a horrible match. Went back in and an older guy was at the paint section and he said that it was my choice of paint and they don't accept returns. I asked him to come out and take a look at the paint color which he did. I said I wasn't satisfied and he said many of our customers are satisfied. No sorry or apology. The can of paint only costed 5.99. I was surprised they were so unaccomodating they were. UPDATED: Thank you for taking the time to respond. I found the right color at an auto parts store. I agree your sales people are helpful. I understand and accept that it is your store policy to not allow returns on paint. My husband and I continue to drop in for plumbing, electrical, gardening and all varieties of screws and bolts. I've updated my review to reflect our overall experience with Robinson's. read more

Really disappointed in my experience there. Brought in a John Deere lawn tractor for a $149 tune up. They ask to be allowed to charge up to $300 without contacting you which I had no problem with. The tune up took 27 days!!! A month! When asked, I was told that is pretty common for them. They didn't even look at my tractor for the 1st 2 weeks. Had I known that I would have gone to a bigger place that can handle more volume. Also the tune up (oil change/plugs/gas line/cleaning) includes nothing! Additional charges include things like oil (not included in the oil change). I even gave them brand new blades to install to save $50. Didn't matter. In the end it was $297, and they didn't do much more than just the tune up. Leads me to believe they always charge all the way up to $300. I want to support small local business but I can't justify using their service department again. read more

I live in Hudson, and my husband and I are regular customers. Near us we have many big box competitors, who can often beat price - a bit. However, they can't beat service. I can readily get help matching some bolt from an old piece of furniture, or recommendation for the right strategy to solve a problem - from wobbling tables to paint or finishes. I have been a customer of Robinson's Hardware for more than 25 years, including the rental department. This is the first time I used the service department to repair my lawn tractor. The tractor had a flat and needed a new tube. I asked them to give it a tune-up as well. I received an estimate for over $600 and advice not to do the work, the tractor is worn and may not be worth it. $2000 for a new tractor. After phone tag, them calling me and when I called them, too busy to talk now. Finally I emailed to go ahead with the work, but I don't need new blades or a new belt. I called the next week to check on progress and was told that "Steve is on vacation so we didn't get any emails." Every time I called to discuss it, someone other than Steve said that the work was not being done because its too worn and not worth it. Bottom line is the worst communication! Very frustrating! 33 days later I get a text saying the tractor is ready. (two days earlier I was told: "there is a note here that says it's not worth repairing"). This is the short version of the story. I will never go back to Robinson's again. read more

Had my snowblower picked up for servicing. Had to call several times to have it picked up. 2 weeks later they finally got it. They called me and told me it was too old and worn and not worth repairing. So I said ok bring it back and at least i can get another season out of it. Again, took 2 weeks and several phone calls to get it dropped off. I came home yesterday to see my snowblower and a cardboard box filled with all the little parts in my driveway and an invoice for $120. I called Steve in service and he told me this is what they do when they don't repair. They return it disassembled. Awful experience. awful customer service. I dropped off working snowblower to have serviced and now have a useless hunk of metal and a box full of parts and cost me $120. I took my lawnmower in to have the push bar and blade replaced. When I went to pick it up, the self propel mechanism was not working. It was working perfectly fine when I last used my mower, 45 minutes before I dropped it off to be fixed. They claimed no responsibility and said it was the belt that needed to be replaced. They didn't care that it was working fine when I dropped my mower off. I said screw it replace the belt. 4 days later they call and tell me that it is magically something else that is wrong with a system that was working perfectly fine when I dropped it off and it would be another $130 to fix it. Do not take your equipment there to be repaired. They will try a fleece you. read more

I just had my John Deere lawn tractor serviced by Robinsons. They were very friendly and easy to work with. They came and picked up the tractor at my father's house, serviced it, and dropped it off in my driveway. the whole thing took about 10 days. It is now running great. I found this place after constantly being told by Lowes employees that I would have to go to Robinsons Hardware to find what I want. Robinsons had what I wanted, everyone who worked there was super friendly and helpful, and in the future I will shop here first. **They copy smart car keys (with the chips in them) at a huge discount over what the dealership wants to charge you. I got my car key copied at half of what my dealership wanted and saved $90. read more

Crooks. "Serviced" power wash last year (2016) to have ready for spring cleaning 2017. Did not work. Took back to have it checked 6/07/17 no one told me waiting time or anything else and I had to rent one of theirs to do the job. Called back on 6/13/17 no one had checked my machine and the lady told me NOW that they were 2-3 wk waiting time. She promise to give me an update a week later. Nothing happened. Called back again 6/26/17 no one had checked the machine. As the guy tells me the exact same thing she stated " maybe ...maybe someone will check in a couple of weeks". I asked if someone would call me once someone checked it to see what needed to be fixed. He then had the nerve to say that them to tell me what needed be fixed prior to doing it would cost extra 40 bucks! Really?! that they do have down to a science but ETA to check is impossible to know. Who wants to simply pay for a repair after they had serviced THEMSELVES without knowing what's wrong ? What happened to accountability and costumer service ? Guess we don't live in that country anymore. read more
