Tried to walk in today around 3 pm to get a hair cut. One barber was close to wrapping up her customer and the other was chatting with a friend at the counter. I waited 5 mins for her to stop taking to her friend just to hear that the two barbers would not cut my hair without an appointment despite the fact that the shop was empty and there was 90 mins until closing. They asked me to make an appointment and come back another day. What? I wasn't aware I was going to an extravagant beauty salon with mandatory appointments . Where I come from barber shops take walk-ins all day long and barbers cut hair one head after another until the room is empty. These lazy people don't want to work. Went to Floyd's and got the great service I expect. I will never go back. read more

I've been to Rob's twice, primarily based on a friend's recommendation. (I had been going to a shop across the street, but became unhappy their when the guy I liked retired. The replacements only give "shaved head cuts" as my wife calls them--despite what I told them I wanted. I'm 71, not 17. I don't care what the current style is!) So I was a walk-in at Rob's that first time and took a young lady who was not busy. She gave me an excellent haircut. She gave me her card, which I promptly lost, of course. I went back today hoping I could get her again--and luck was on my side! She gave me another great haircut, and I made sure to get another card. Her name is Soyoen, and I highly recommend her. That card is safely put away now--I will be back to her. In some of the comments on here people have complained about the $19 price. Yes, it's not the cheapest place around, but you get a really good haircut from people who take pride in their work. I went to a hair salon for years and was paying $35 ,plus tips, for haircuts that look no better than what I get at Rob's. And at the salon, I had to put up with smelling all the chemicals they use on women. Have yet to experience that at Rob's. Do yourself a favor, and try Rob's. read more

I've been coming here since the early 2000's, and never had a bad experience. It does seem that they have switched to "by appointment only," as a result of the pandemic. So, if you want a trim, be sure to go on their website, booking an appt is super easy! My son and I get our cuts by Ms Soyoen, and she is the best! Best haircut I have gotten in my entire life. My barber was a short and very personable Asian-American woman. I should've remembered her name. She was amazing. I don't think I even told her what I wanted she just said sit down and worked her magic. I felt great right away and the comments and compliments didn't stop for weeks. If I didn't live an hour and a half away this would be the only place I would ever get a haircut. And if someone knows who the barber was from my description please tell me. read more

Rob's seems to be trying to fill a perceived niche in quality of service between barbershop and salon. Essentially if you're looking for something that's halfway between each step then you'll probably be happy with this. If not you're probably going to think it's rather overpriced. There are about a dozen or so barber chairs so the shop has a pretty high capacity. I believe the owner (Rob himself) works there actually cutting hair so that's always beneficial to know that he understand his product. Both times I have been the majority of the clientele have been men but I have seen the occasional woman client getting her hair cut by one of the female barbers/stylists. The shop takes appointments and I imagine that they are mandatory on the weekends. On the weekdays you can just walk in during lunch time though. Men's haircuts are $19 which certainly does seem steep for a barbershop cut yet it's cheap for a salon cut which usually exceeds the $25+ range for a guy's cut. In a sense you pay for what you get. Both barbers I have had at Rob's spoke fluent English (refreshing for the area outside of a salon) and were able to understand what I wanted from me simply telling them the style rather than intricately describing how long each section of hair needs to be cut and what length clippers to use like you often find yourself doing with cheap $10 haircuts. They offer to style your hair for you with gel after the cut and although the store very prominently displays and sells American Crew products the styling gel they throw into your hair after a cut feels like some cheap off brand drug store gel. Still I look around the room when I visit and see loads of guys getting clipper haircuts and firmly believe that if you're paying $19 for a haircut that uses nothing but clippers you are definitely not getting your money's worth here. If you have a more modern haircut that involves scissors you'll probably be happy with Rob's if you don't mind the price. read more

I've been going to Rob's for years now and seeing Michele. She is one of the kindest people I've ever met and will make your hair cut experience truly great- this is especially important for bringing kids here who may not enjoy having their hair cut. I always make appointments when coming here, but they do accept walk ins. I don't know when other reviewers have stopped by, but sometimes you do have to wait if you come at a crowded time (this would happen anywhere, so it's not the fault of the business). Rob, the owner, is extremely personable and understanding. The feeling of the shop is a family establishment because they truly are a family there, and they strive to meet your expectations for your visit. I am a lifelong fan of this place. I have yet to try getting my hair colored here but that will be my next adventure! read more

I brought my two year old son here and the customer service to great. We had to wait, about 20 minutes which isn't too bad, I would recommend making an appointment. We had the woman barber who was very nice, I am just not impressed with my sons haircut. I am also not impressed with it being $17!!! My son is not even 2 yet, so I thought at most it would be $14. I am giving it three stars because of the hair cut and the price. I would recommend being VERY specific with the hair cut you want and paying some extra $$$. read more

We are new to the area and were trying to find a new spot to take my 9 year old son, who is very particular about not only his cut, but also who cuts his hair. We walked in and didn't have to wait. Michelle cut my sons hair, not only was she kind, she was also very talented. The fade is perfection, the lines are straight, not one spot did she miss. We will definitely be returning. So....been looking for a good barber shop for years and just recently moved to Ellicott City from Columbia. Today I had my first experience at Rob's and it exceeded all my expectations. After several decades of "OK" haircuts, Rob has treated me to a real professional haircut. He listened to my request and took his artistic liberty in interpreting it....turned out flawless. Wife has mentioned how nice it looked several times this evening. The shop is convenient, has the best online booking system you can imagine and the folks there are friendly and professional. Really good, but make an appointment if you're going in on a Saturday morning . They can get awfully busy. I try to take a late lunch during the week and usually have less than a 15 minute wait. Friendly staff and the owner seems to take an interest in whats going on around him. read more

Went for our 3rd time today with our now 19 month old. Had a 4:30 appointment and was taken back on the spot. My son flipped out and cried the whole time. Diggs was especially patient, put on a video for him to watch on his Ipad, and helped put me at ease, since I felt awful about what a scene he was making. This is the only place for us! read more
