But let me tell you, the first guy took 45 min, second guy was 75 min in and still going by the time I left. The first barber (light-skinned latino) took 45 min, worked hard and did an excellent job on an older man. Honestly, while I waited and saw him work, I wanted my cut with him. Unfortunately he left to go inside their building and was replaced by this young black haired latino. He was working on this guy who walked in with a Phil Foden cut and 75 min in, largely unchanged but with a clean trim on the sides. (There was hardly any hair on the ground ) One reason his cut was taking so long was this barber was too busy live-streaming on his phone, occasionally looking at peoples' comments. It also didn't help he was cutting at a snail's pace. It's one thing to be attentive to detail (something the first barber was good at). It's another to just go hair by hair. Bad for business, wasting peoples' time, so much that I don't feel like stopping by the actual shop. Hope the business sees this and if they do, please let me know the name of that guy. If I ever do stop by, I'd like to avoid him at all cost.

After checking them out online and on Instagram I called and made an appointment with Mario. There is plenty of metered street parking in the area. Some in front of the building that the shop is in and there's also a metered lot to the right of the building. Finos is located on the second floor of the building. Theres a door leading to the stairs located next to Franks Burgers. Go up the stairs and turn left once you reach the top. The vibe in the shop is very laid back. There was music playing at a reasonable level and the whole shop is well lit. Mario is really cool and he offered me a complimentary beverage (soda or beer). I opted for a soda since I drove myself. Now on to the cut and overall experience. Mario took time consulting with me to figure out the best cut for me. I shared what I had in mind down to the guides I preferred and how close I wanted thebcut to be. Once he got started with the cut we had a really cool conversation about everything from sports to family to travel, etc. Throughout the entire conversation Mario was cutting and detailing to make sure everything was perfect. When he was done I was extremely happy! This is easily the best haircut I've had in years at a barbershop! The price was fair, only $60 for a haircut and beard trim. I actually had him do a fade on my beard too. It's a new look for me, but I like the end result. Mario earned a new client and I look forward to coming back in 2 weeks for my next cut.

My appointment was at 10:00 AM, but due to traffic I didn't arrive until 10:25. I felt awful, but Jaime was incredibly kind and understanding, and still took me in right away without any frustration. Once in the chair, everything went smoothly. She gave me a relaxing wash and a quick but thorough cut that turned out just how I wanted. She even shared helpful tips on how to maintain the style at home. Despite my late arrival, I was out by 11:18. The whole experience was efficient, pleasant, and professional. I was surprised that my hair weren't shampooed at all during my service. I did a perm so he rinsed my hair a couple times.. but no shampoo before or after. The worst thing is their towel on the washing bed (the one that would contact with your neck). It smells (like dirty towels) and the location got contact with it felt itchy afterwards the smell from the dirty towel remains on my neck as well until I shower at home this should never happen at a four dollar sign salon. Besides that, the store was clean and quiet. My appointment was 1PM - 4 PM. Only two people were working at that time--the two owners. Tbh it was the first time I saw a hairdresser do everything himself--all the preparation, cut, perming, washing, etc. The limitation of staff resulted in lack of attentiveness. During the perm, the medicine touched my face, and overall the experience was not up to the standard. I really hope that they can improve because hair coco has lots of potentials.

He to cut my hair in any way that in no way resembled the numerous pictures I showed him, left a huge cut on my ear that bled for the entire appointment, and broke my earrings. None of which he apologized for. And the cherry on top was that he tried to overcharge me for a service I knew the price of since I have been coming here for years. I am not one to write scathing reviews about services that were mildly inconvenient, but this was genuinely unacceptable. The quality of this service was honestly not good at all, and my ear has been bleeding for almost 2 hours now. I am sad to say my relationship with Helen's is over now. I hope everyone can benefit from my experience. I hope the quality improves to what it once was, extremely disappointed. I loved them both so much, but they moved to LA and sold this salon. I still came here to try out the new staff. At the time, there was high turnover in staffing. But last time I was here (2018), there were 2 remaining hairstylists: Julie and an older lady. Julie does an excellent job with hair and I would recommend her. I've had issues with the older lady but I do believe some part of it is because of the language barrier. There's many reasons why i stopped coming all relating to horrible wait times, getting the opposite of what I asked for and more. However, here was the final straw: 1) They say walk-in's are welcome but when you come in for a walk-in, they get so annoyed. I once waited 4.5 hours for a cut/style. Yeah, 4.5 hours. I would've left but she had already shampooed my hair, so here I am in the chair, sitting with a towel on my hand. My wait was so long because they kept giving priority to their Korean friends who came in (I get it, you're friends). But, I mean I been waiting for 3+ hours at this point and they didn't seem to care. I had an event to get to tonight but I'm not one to be rude like that, so I just patiently waited for another hour. 2) Finally, after 4.5 hours, it's my turn. I asked for a small trim to get rid of the split-ends and a curl style. They cut off 4 inches and gave me straight hair instead. When I told her "oh no, curly, i have an event to go to," the lady seemed annoyed and said "it is curly, what do you mean?" (Please see attached picture for what is "curly" to her). I was so done at that point, I just wanted to leave and I did. For good. My new Salon: Twist in Elkridge, MD.
