Complimentary chips and salsa were good. The salsa had a little kick, which we like. The waitress was new, but very nice! She asked questions of us and fellow staff to clarify our order to make sure she got it right. She's gonna do just fine here. The dranks and food were delicious. We started with the queso fundido and ended up adding it to my Sincronizada. Both were (like me and my husband) good on their own, but together were AMAZING!!!! Great place! They have amazing street tacos with a really incredible salsa verde/spicy sauce thing that comes with it. Mouth watering. Their chips are good and as we all know, that's what's important, right? It is for me. Plus they have a really good regular homemade salsa and an incredible sour cream type chip dip that's perfect. I would not recommend this place. We were traveling through West Virginia and stopped. I'll agree with others that said it was very bland. No flavor. Small portions. They did bring some kind of a dip with the salsa. They said it was ranch with some spices. That was different. We didn't eat it. The salsa was pretty good, but they didn't give very much. The waitress was friendly and the service was very quick. The food came within a couple minutes. That made us a little concerned. My husband said the chicken tasted old and not fresh. When we drive through again, we will not stop here. read more

Great location, tons of parking and inside large...nice and roomy, that's a real plus. The staff was all friendly, and we were greater immediately and seated. They brought us chips, salsa and a white creamy salsa...different but not bad. I was dining with my daughter, so we ordered some queso cheese sauce, she loves this stuff....she ordered the Santa Fe plate which was tbone steak, rice and beans, and I went with tilapia fish tacos which came with house salad. I used the white creamy salsa as a topper on my tacos along with some regular spicy salsa to jazz it up some...not bad but still lacking something. To be truthful I will not be having the fish tacos there again but I am going back to try other items off their menu. Overall great experience with tip, taxes, sodas and all it was less than $40 for us both...about average! I highly recommend for you to try!!! read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while driving through WV. We should have read the reviews first, because we were very disappointed with the quality of the food, which turned out to be bland and not authentically Mexican. I was worried when the server brought tortilla chips with two salsas, one of which turned out to be ranch dressing! We ordered lunch specials, both of which - a burrito and Chile relleno - were not flavorful and served with refried beans that tasted like they came straight from a can. My Chile relleno plate came with a salad made of iceberg lettuce, cheese and sour cream. I didn't see a speck of cilantro in anything we were served nor did it seem that any other seasonings, like cumin, oregano, garlic, chile powder or other peppers had been used in anything. Pretty much the most mediocre "Mexican"food we've had in years. read more

This was our second stopover at the Cross Lanes exit and we again ate at nearby Rocas Mexican Grill. I remembered the very good pork that I had on our previous visit and wanted to have that again, minus the excessively garlicy green sauce. Rocas salsa is nothing special, mainly tomato with some chopped onion. On this visit the chips were fried in stale oil that was so strong, I did not eat them. However, the pork did not disappoint. This shows consistency. It was moist, tender and very well flavored, including proper salt. I did not think to tell them to hold the pico de gallo, which was full of raw onion, which I do not eat, but I was able to scrape it off. It did not ruin the pork. Their rice is kind of gooey in texture, but had a good mild green chile flavor and I liked it a lot. Their refried beans have the grainy texture of canned beans and probably have some red chile added. Ms T chose a taco salad again and it was more a normal size. We could not be sure what happened the previous time. The meat is not seasoned much, kind of boring and there was no queso sauce as advertised. There were a lot of the beans in the salad. Roca's is a roomy, clean and bright place. It really is a standard three star Mexican place that serves five-star pork. I remain with my four stars, but that over-rates it. I do it for the pork and if we stop through again on our journeys to the NC coast, I will be hard pressed to order anything else. Stopping here again is at risk however due to the worst bed I have ever slept on at the neighboring Holiday Inn Express. read more

First time I ate there, it was great. Second time, was disappointed and the quality of food was not the same as the first time. Tried it again tonight for the 3rd time and got seated, and no one ever came over to ask if we wanted drinks. We had to flag someone down eventually and finally ordered water. Ordered food and I got the pina loca which is the hollowed out pineapple with grilled chicken, peppers, onions etc. At other restaurants they toss in the chunks of pineapple with the chicken and peppers. That's the whole point. At Rocas, they don't do this. Literally just hollowed out the pineapple and didn't give me any of it. Didn't taste like pineapple at all. Totally pointless. Wasn't good. It also came with a house salad they never brought me which I again had to flag someone down and ask for. By the time I got it, I was done. Didn't want it. Won't be going back. read more

On the road and decided to try this Mexican restaurant. It was 'okay' and if I lived near by, I'd probably come here but it wouldn't be a wow let's go to Rocas. Service was good, as I was taking my time ordering and eating as I was ttrying to book a hotel, at the same time. Waitress was patient. Place was packed and mostly with locals (which is always a good sign) Had fish tacos and they were average but I'd have them again. I love Roca's!! We always sit at the bar. I can't remember the name of the dish I get but it's grilled chicken with vegetables, I had a couple extra veggies, beans and rice. So good and incredibly filling. I look for similar dishes at other Mexican restaurants but Roca's is the OG. read more

I Recently moved here from California, I know "You're sorry"......but I've been here twice and being skeptical of any Mexican food outside of my original area is a must........So far, this place hasn't really "wow'd" me but it hasn't necessarily disappointed me either. My second time, I ordered a "CoronaRita"......it's definitely not as strong as I'm used to and I had to force the corona into the drink.....this could be solved with a simple CoronaRita bottle holder! For food, I took a chance and tried the "Pina Loca" which had veggies, steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, cheese and LITTLE pineapple. It also came with a salad, which was surprisingly fresh, I enjoyed it. There was a lot going on in this dish though and the chorizo and cheese were over powering. My personal opinion.....if I were to order it again, maybe I'd stick to just shrimp and Chicken with EXTRA pineapple. The shrimp and pineapple were tasty together. I ended up picking around the steak and chorizo and I'm not sure where the rest of that pineapple went when the cut it in half and dug it out....maybe throw it on top of the dish.....in place of all the cheese!!! Overall the meal was okay. If you're looking for some decent food and drinks, this place will do the trick. The salsa isn't salty AF either, like some other places in the area. read more

First time eating there tonight. I always pass it on the way out from the casino. It always looked nice from the outside. Walked in, super nice atmosphere. Chips, salsa, was great. Food was terrible. Super salty and the chorizo tasted like over seasoned hamburger beef. My gfs steak was like rubber and tasted like there was some sort of Italian zest on it? Gave no Mexican cuisine taste at all. Called ahead to say a birthday party of 19 was coming, when we arrived staff did not look to happy to see us. The server we had was ok don't think he ever handled a big group, the food was good only had 2 complaints on orders. Still a great Mexican restaurant and worth remembering even though we only come through once a year. This time I went with the carnitas, generous portion with 3 warm tortillas. The pico de gallo was on the side so you could control the mix. The warm chips came automatically with my fave white sauce. I know it isn't really Mexican but I like it. Tip: The entrance is on 622/Lakeview Drive, not on Nitro, GPS can take you to the wrong side to enter. read more

Lunch in Cross Lanes - It's Roca Grill (not sure why the name is wrong on Yelp) time! The first impression of this place is SPACIOUS. Nice sectioned off opened areas. They have a patio that looks nice from the inside when its too cold to sit out there. Lotsa window in here. The chips and salsa were good. The wife thought the salsa was too garlicy, I disagreed. Roca serves a sweet, tangy, mayonnaise based dip of some sort with their chips. I'm generally against mayo and its cousins, but I did find myself trying it again and again. No standard green and red hot sauce on the tables here. I asked for hot sauce or salsa, I got none. I ordered the usual: Grilled Taco Salad + chicken, spinach, mushrooms. I got Grilled Taco Salad + steak, spinach, mushrooms. It was pretty good, I didn't send it back. The meat was a little on the salty side. The wife claimed the same of her beef in the Nachos Grande'ish thing that she ordered. The salad was a little smaller than other places, but it was tasty. I ordered the Fried Ice Cream. The delivery guy didn't deliver something that they needed to make it or something (I couldn't really follow the explanation). So I was offered other desserts. I passed. I was then offered a free one the next time I return. Nice gesture. Nothing in writing. Stuff happens. Fair enough. In general, I like this place. Your standard Mexican fare, no worse an' often times better. The salsa's good not great. Chips are sometimes stale, but still salty, warm an' good. The white salsa stuff is an abomination, but that's me. You may like it. The beer's good an' cold an' the entrees are hot, spicy an' quick to your table. The place is always packed an' friendly. Easy entry and exit from the parking lot with plenty of spaces. Establishment was very clean and bright on the inside with plenty of room and a full bar. Very disappointing service on Cinco de Mayo. We realized our table of 9 was forgotten when we saw food being delivered to a table that clearly came in after us. We waited almost 2 hours for our meals to come. Amazingly enough, they miraculously appeared after speaking with a manager. Food was decent, below par of expectations. We received a slight discount for my "inconvenience". Looks like my husband and I need to find a different place to celebrate our anniversary. read more
