I've been a long-term customer at Rocco & Rocco, and so has my entire family, but our most recent experience was extremely disappointing. A family member had an appointment with the stylist Maureen. The front desk apparently booked the appointment incorrectly, and instead of handling the situation professionally, the stylist appeared frustrated. The service felt rushed, shortcuts were taken, and she was physically rough, pulling on my family member's hair and face in ways that made her uncomfortable. The end result was uneven and not what we expected, and my sister's hair was left noticeably botched. I contacted the manager, Dominic, who initially said he would help arrange a makeup appointment. Instead, he later told my family member he did not believe her concerns and informed her she would no longer be accepted as a client. Only a partial refund was offered for a service that cost nearly $300. UPDATE: the owner, Ron Rocco, called me. He said he was reaching out to help schedule a new appointment, but the call quickly shifted to him saying he did not want to do my family member's hair. Throughout the call, he repeatedly raised his voice and spoke over me, not allowing me to speak. As a younger woman speaking with an older male business owner, the interaction felt intimidating, uncomfortable, and unprofessional. During the call, he also mentioned that he had checked with the stylist to confirm whether my family member had tipped. She had tipped generously, and the comment felt completely unnecessary and out of place. He also stated that he is at the salon every day, which differs from what staff members had previously told us. He mentioned that he was "not threatend of a Yelp review," and I want to be clear: reviews are not threats. They are honest accounts of customer experiences. Everything in this review is truthful and based entirely on firsthand interactions. I also received a notice from Yelp that the business attempted to have my review removed. Key points: --I personally do not feel safe or comfortable returning to this salon. -I do not recommend booking with Maureen based on how she handled this situation. -In my experience, the business did not prioritize customer satisfaction or take accountability. -Management made me feel that customer concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. -The service felt overpriced for the rushed quality delivered. -Several interactions with the front desk staff felt unprofessional and unfriendly. -As a young woman, my interactions with both management and ownership felt uncomfortable and intimidating. -My sister's hair was left uneven and poorly done, which added to the frustration. -The salon seemed willing to tolerate the behaviors and issues we experienced rather than fixing them. -To quote Ron Rocco "Yelp reviews don't threaten me"! I can't say enough about the incredible color service I received from Maureen! From the start, she really listened to what I wanted and offered some fantastic suggestions that I hadn't even considered. The result was absolutely stunning. my hair has never looked or felt better. The color is vibrant, rich, and exactly what I was hoping for. Beyond the amazing results, Maureen made the entire experience so enjoyable. To say I was disappointed in this salon is a gross understatement; the entire experience, from the scheduling mishap to the manager's final call, was an absolute nightmare. I had called a few months in advance to specifically schedule a Balayage and haircut and was scheduled with a stylist named Maureen. The experience started poorly with difficult parking. At the time of my appointment Maureen sat me down and asked what we were doing, and I advised her a Balayage and haircut. She advised that was not what I was scheduled for and became frustrated. She advised she could throw a few foils in, which was a completely inadequate substitution for the service I requested and booked. Throughout the service, Maureen displayed extreme passive-aggressiveness. She made several inappropriate comments that made me uncomfortable and went as far as manhandling my head and hair in a clearly frustrated manner. After the color was completed, we moved onto the haircut. I explicitly asked for 3-4 inches cut off. Maureen finished the cut and styling without ever showing me the length. The result was a shoddy job of highlights and a final length that was noticeably much longer than requested. After leaving with a clearly botched color and cut, I called the salon to express my concerns about both the quality of my hair and the stylist's unprofessional conduct. The manager offered to schedule a correction appointment with a different stylist, but failed entirely to address my serious concerns about Maureen's behavior. My correction appointment was scheduled for a day when a severe snowstorm made travel impossible. When I called to respectfully request a reschedule due to the weather, the salon flatly refused. I was told they would not reschedule the fix, and if I wanted to return, I would have to book a new appointment and pay the full price again. I cancelled on the spot. A few days after I cancelled, I received a call from the manager, Dominic, who advised me he wanted to "part ways" with me as a client. This final communication was confusing and upsetting, as I had already cancelled and had zero intention of ever returning. It felt like an unnecessary final act of hostility after a series of failures. This salon and its staff, particularly Maureen, exhibited a shocking level of unprofessionalism and disregard for client comfort and satisfaction. The management's resolution process was equally abysmal. Save yourself the headache and money--find a different salon. Update: The owner, Ron, initially agreed to correct my hair following the unsatisfactory service. However, during a subsequent call to schedule, Ron became hostile, shouting that he would no longer honor his commitment due to my honest posted review. This action demonstrates a serious lack of professionalism and poor customer relations from the salon. I would have updated my review to a more positive review, had the owner followed through with his prior commitment of fixing my hair. read more

Worst haircut I've ever had. I am really not trying to be dramatic I just want to help out whoever I can. If you have curly hair, this is not the place for you. I asked for long layers and 4 inches cut off, and my hair is probably 7 inches shorter and very jagged. I straightened it and everything and there is like a big cut off where the layers end and it is not even. The styling was also horrible and left the salon with my hair tucked away in my hood to hide. Followed my stylist Jacqulyn to Rocco & Rocco and I have loved the change since day one! I'm so glad this is where she is now. 1) as a commuter, it's close to the train which is a huge help; 2) it's open later on weeknights and I can still do a weeknight appt which is amazing; 3) THE STAFF/STYLISTS. I followed my stylist here but I would let anyone I've met take over if needed. The shampoo girls are the sweetest and always do a great job. Multiple staff members check in as they pass by to make sure you're doing well; 4) the price. I can honestly say that I am probably paying 1/3 less than the last salon and the quality is 10x better. The stylists are just better. The products feel and look better. This place is great and I'm excited to check out their day spa. read more

The setting is comfortable and well organized. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. As well as getting my nails done here I have also in the past gotten my hair done and gotten a massage as well. I have been perfectly happy with all of the services I've gotten here. My nail technition, Shawna was very friendly and made me feel not only very comfortable but like we were old friends. The mani pedi was very relaxing and enjoyable and turned out great. The prices for what you're getting are also reasonable as well. One thing to be aware of, the space they have set aside for manicures and pedicures is small. The pedicure area only has three seats as does the manicure area. Additionally, over the past year I've gone several times to get my nails done and only once saw someone else getting their nails done. This leads me to believe they may only have two nail technicians. I could be wrong, but that appears to be the case. This is obviously not a big deal, as I said it turned out great. However, it's clear they are not set up for big groups. But for a nice manicure pedicure service for yourself, or a friend or two depending on what they can do, it's a great option. read more

Rude blonde customer service woman at the front desk. I'm a single mom - very limited time and availability. Had an appointment for weeks. It was called and confirmed the day before. The day of appointment, I was called 45m before the appointment to tell me the stylist I was scheduled with wasn't available. I didn't answer because I was dropping my kids off so when I showed up at the salon... I hadn't seen her call yet and she was rude and acted like it was my problem. Yuck. Wow! Have t been to this salon since the late 80's early 90's. Moved back to the area and needed a haircut and was greeted by one of nicest men I've met in a long time, later found out it was Mr Roccos son. This salon in a day in age where customer service has lost its way, Rocco/Rocco not only is a modern day salon teeming with energy and top notch employees it still has a feeling of being appreciated and valued as a customer. Maria who cut my hair was awesome and it was so nice to chat with another DG native and share old stories:) All I can say is this place rocks!! Customer service is above and beYond!! I needed a hair cut. . . and Rocco & Rocco is as convenient of a place as possible, if you live downtown downers grove. My experience with Rocco & Rocco actually started Yesterday. Enjoying the "tint" of Spring my wife and I were walking downtown. I walked in and asked about the price for a man's hair cut (between 19 - 25). Apparently the more senior the beautician, the more money they make. They could take me right now, they said, if I wanted a $25 hair cut. I decided to sign up for a $19 on the next day. This is a different experience than my normal hair cut (usually big league barbers). Shampoo before and a lengthy hair cut. . .the whole thing actually took about 40minutes. No neck massage at the end (aka Big League) but, that is fine. Big League was cheaper ($14) but they definitely try harder at R&R. . Hair cut seemed fine, I'm not that complicated. Wish I had the option to select zero rating! Well, last time I go to this place! I specifically told Theresa that I wanted to keep my hair length since it took years to grow my hair thick and long, but she cut so much that I don't have that thickness I used to have. Extremely frustrating and heart breaking that I have to now try to grow that thickness I lost. I showed her two pictures and told her what I wanted but she barely looked at them and started cutting it away. This place doesn't care about you but just want to rush you out! read more

I called back to get my money back but since I didn't talk to the stylist that did it I couldn't. I had to go to another salon and they did an amazing job of fixing the damage they did. BEWARE OF BRANDY!!!! Wow. Horrible. At first we were greeted with a nice lady at the front. But my brother's haircut was terrible! I paid and left and called for a manager since I didn't want to cause a scene... and the manager insisted for me to come back to "make things right." It turned into the manager and hairstylists making fun of my brother and explaining the "art of cutting hair" to dummies. They acted as if I was lying and they did a superb job. This was simply not true. Employees all gathered around to watch and all were laughing at the situation. My brother is embarrassed of his haircut and we will never be returning back. So sad because we've heard great things but we had a terrible experience. I tried reasoning but the hairstylist stormed away and the manager told us to leave and that we were "wasting his time" when he wasted ours! Cocky, rude, and entitled would be this salon. If you want to be laughed at by the teen hair washers and watch your hairstylist throw a temper tantrum.... this is your place!!! read more

I've been going to this salon for about 9 years. I have always received the best service and wonderful cuts and up-do's. I always see Ellen. I trust no one else with my hair other than her. She is the BEST! She always knows what to do with my hair, and, above all, she is an amazing human being. Every time I come to get my hair done, I always know I'm in good hands with Ellen. You have to book way in advanced for her, but it is absolutely worth it!! Parking might take a while, so get there early. You have to park on the street; however, there are parking lots just down the street. They also have some snacks and water while you wait! read more

Iover a week ago, I had made appointments for my mom and I to get facials for her Mothers Day gift. Last night at 8:55, I get a call telling me the salon doesn't offer those facials anymore - that they are changing lines. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and annoyed at the late call since this was a gift. I have to give the salon credit for making it right. We didn't get the facials I had booked, but they honored the original price. Most important, though, was that the experience was wonderful. The spa was in the back behind a door with individual rooms which offered a nice, quiet, relaxing experience. Both my mom and I had great facials. I really enjoyed my therapist and my mom did as well. Best of all, she loved her Mother's Day gift. I plan on keeping Athina's card and will more than likely go back. Love this place as the entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. Took my daughter, Claire here last Saturday for an updo for prom that night. First of all, as I walked in I sensed a positive energy as I then observed a lot of happy, excited high school girls and their moms! The entire staff was also upbeat. It is how a hair salon should be on a Saturday afternoon- vibrant! Secondly, my daughter's hair stylist, Cathy, offered us a few different styling options based on her prom dress and my daughter's personality. We went with a more wild do and It turned out to be beautiful and fun! Lastly, the Rocco's somehow fit her into their booked schedule for a makeup appointments. Her makeup artist, Melody did an amazing job as she was transformed into s beautiful young lady! I will definitely go back her for mine and my daughters future hair or makeup appointments! read more

I have been to tons of spas all over Illinois (mario tricocci, aveda czar spa, beauty concepts, med spas, etc, etc, etc). The day spa here wins hands down. The spa here is amazing, especially for the price! You will not be dissapointed, I am 24 and have been coming here since I was 16. The staff is very professional and polite.. here is what you would expect if coming for a facial: 1. Check in with the front desk where a worker will escort you back into the spa waiting area. 2. The waiting area will have water, hot tea, snacks, and magazines for you. You will spend this time filling out a card that asks you questions about your current health, your skin care goals, any current meds, etc. 3. Your estitician will come and greet you and escort you into one of the small but cozy facial rooms. She will give you the privacy to undress, slip on a robe, and slip into the heated bed. She will then knock before entering. 4. Before beginning the facial, she will ask what skin care products you are using and then will do an assessment of your skin to determine what facial will be good for you. The best part is .. I have never been told to get the more expensive facials (~$70+).. They have always told me that the regular european facials (~$55) would be fine for my skin (this is great because I hate being conned into spending more) 5. The facial will begin: * Skin will be cleansed. * After cleansing she will steam and put on an exfoliant to open up and clean pores. While steaming she will massage your arms and hands! * She will then extract your portes * After extraction is the face and neck massage (the best part) * After the massage is done, she will custom blend a mask for you. * After about 10-15 minutes, the mask will be romoved and a toner and moisturizer will be applied. You will usually leave feeling amazing and with some sample products in hand. Trust me.. this spa is hands down the best place for facials and body treatments! I just wish they had updated their website.. it woud be nice to schedule appointments on-line instead of having to call all the time. read more

I was looking for a local place for a Pedicure and came across Rocco & Rocco. This salon was actually my last choice (I'm not a fan of large spa establishments), but was the only place that was able to get me on for a pedi at the last minute. Well, I fell love with my nail technician. She is personable, not gossipy and a pleasure to talk with. I had a great time with her my first visit. My check-in and check-out experience was average; I felt the girls behind the counter were not interested in my business...I was just another person coming in. However, I still wanted to give it a second chance because my actual pedi experience was fantastic. So, the second time around my check-in and check-out was mediocre (again)...I told myself, no big deal, I'm here for my technician, not the front-of-the-house service. Well, unfortunately, I had to share the room with a overly loud gossipy technician (topics ranging from tanning, police action, etc.). I had to listen to this "non-ambiance" ambiance for 45 minutes. I couldn't even talk with my technician because the conversation next to me (we're like sardines in this room) overpowered the space. How unfortunate. I would have liked to have given Rocco & Rocco one star, but that wouldn't have been fair to the nail technician. No matter how the other staff's behavior was, she was always professional and courteous. When I'm spending money on a not-so-cheap pedicure, I expect my service to be great (at the least). Well, if this technician that I like here changes organizations, I'll try that one; but for now, I'm off to look for a place to get a pedicure. One that has staff that is a little more mature. read more

Rocco & Rocco is THE place to get your haircut if you live in Downers Grove. I recently started going to Rocco & Rocco to get my hair cut by Kelly D and I love her! She does exactly what I ask her to do (never taking off too much) and even gives me tips on how I can style it so it looks pretty! I always got my hair done their for dances in high school and was always happy with the result. It's a fun place to be on homecoming , turnabout or prom day....if you can stand the smell of hairspray and excited high school teenage girls. I also got my hair done their with a wedding party a couple of years ago. It worked out great, especially when we walked down the street to get flowers from the flower shop to have put in our hair. read more

If you have furry caterpillar eyebrows that infuriate you every time you look in the mirror, there is help. One name: Sarah. She took my much hated eyebrows and for the first time in my entire life, made them look normal. I am now content to completely grow out my bangs and show these awesome arches off. Kudos to Sarah. She rocks. 5 stars. I have also had some amazing facials here. The only reason I cannot give 5 star love: While I love the hair they do here, it's really expensive. My guess: $40-$60 too much every time I go. I literally cannot afford to do anything cool without breaking the bank. Nails: I absolutely love the nail polish they use here. It lasts F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I've always been happy with the services provided. Basically: A top notch salon, but pricey. Note: Sarah is by far worth the $14 price tag for eyebrows. Best money I've ever spent. read more

Terrible haircut for my son. It looks like he's wearing a friar tuck wig and that is not an exaggeration. Took a great hairstyle and just completely butchered it. After reading all the great reviews for this place I decided to give it a try. Kim was assigned to me to do my "highlighting." Now I only wanted to add lowlights to my coppery washed out hair which was dyed dark brown once upon a time, but she told me that if I wanted dimension in my hair with the lowlights, she'd have to put some highlights underneath the top layer. I dunno, whatever she did was amaziiing! My hair has dimension, it's deeper and more rich like I wanted even with the added highlights. I just know I'll be going back to her again when I want something new for the summer, I'm sure she'll be able to work her magic again! read more

Jeez is this joint over-rated. I now know what cattle feels like when they're going through the slaughter lines. I arrived, was offered water or coffee and before I took my first sip of water I was being prodded towards the hair washing room. The staff is not much of a social one, unless you're a regular i assume. Girl cut my hair in 7 mins tops, when i asked her to take a little more off the top the "come on dude it's fine" look came over her. She obliged and 1 min. later I was done. So what did I win for my experiment in fast-cutting move'm along salons? $30 beans! I've paid 30 before but nver for such a horrible experience. Oh well I live I learn. Guys, first off, it's full of hotties. Seriously. So that's automatically a good thing. Second, be prepared to be surrounded by housewives and children. It's the suburbs, that's what you get. But most importantly, they give solid haircuts. I go to Kelly R, she's awesome, and I'm always done in about 25 minutes. I also make appointments for every five weeks so I don't have to worry about not getting in when I start to look like a filthy hippie. Of course, you end up paying $30 for a haircut with tip, which is probably one of the reasons people hate America. But at least I can look good while wallowing in my overprivileged lifestyle. read more

When inquiring about airbrush tanning, I was sent to R&R by a client who had used them for her son's wedding. I booked the appointment and was assigned to Megan. I arrived, filled out paperwork and Megan was soon there to take me to the room. She was very cute, upbeat and extremely down to earth. She explained everything I needed to know as well as answered all my questions. If you have received a spray tan done by an actual person, you may have been nervous about getting undressed in front of a complete stranger. If you haven't- maybe that's what is holding you back! As I said before, Megan was totally professional and easy-going and I never felt uncomfortable at all. The first time there is a lot of instruction as to how to move to get the most even tan... she was patient and always ready to reinstruct me if I got lost or confused. She was also flawless with the small-talk to keep things cool. After the tan, she recommended that I purchase an additional bottle of the paint to reapply to any areas that faded or washed off. I felt that she was merely trying to help me maintain the best looking tan so I purchased it and I'm thrilled that I did. I am a massage therapist and had to work one more day between the tan and the event I got the tan for. She instructed me to mix the paint with moisturizer and apply to my hands and forearms to maintain the tan that would be ruined from washing. The tan itself was incredibly even and lasted a good 2 weeks. I am Polish and therefore NEVER tan. This was a cheap option for me to do for special occasions that made me feel NATURAL and not fake. I will FOR SURE return to R&R to see Megan for a spray tan, and might even dabble in some of their other services because of this positive experience. read more
