I've been coming to Rochester Deli for many years. In the past, it was usually for their Friday Fish Fry. I especially enjoy the Baked Walleye. They also make excellent potato pancakes, and whenever I ask for them extra crispy, they're always happy to accommodate. Lately, though, I've been stopping in just for the bakery items, which are made next door at Periwinkle Bakery. This time, I was putting together a dessert tray for a dinner with friends, so I decided to pick up a variety of treats. They had so many tempting choices that day. We came in planning to buy four desserts and left with eight! We especially love the cannolis. They regularly change the flavors, which keeps us coming back. They're so good! read more

I have been going to this place for years mainly for the pastrami sandwiches because it's the best I have found and I don't mind driving from Milwaukee to get one because it's so good. Today I drive from Milwaukee to have one and when I got to the counter I ordered the pastrami sandwich like I have many times before and I'm smacked in the face with the pastrami sandwich is permanently off the menu for good. I'm told that I could get a Ruben sandwich, WTF a Ruben and a pastrami are two different sandwiches and Ruben's are a dine a dozen. I'm not trying to complain, as this is a small business and a great one at that, as well as a staple of waukesha, BUT GOSH, the serving in some of these sandwiches is so small, I got the Devonshire Panini, and though delicious, the serving of ham was so tiny, and just one piece, it seemed minimal. I had this experience with the meatloaf sandwich twice before, so tried something new, and was saddened by the lack of the meat within, once again, while walking out with 21$ of food. I went here on a Friday early afternoon, approximately 12:30 and it was already busy. I was unfamiliar with the protocol that you selected your own table, place and pay for your order, then sit back down. The girl who assisted in this task was unclear and hard to understand. It seemed a bit pointless to get a table, when there were only two available, then leave the table to place an order risking the table being taken my other guests. The food was good, however, for the amount you get and the price you pay I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant. I got a Rueben, potato salad and a can of coke which was almost $20.00. I can get a Rueben, fries or a similar heavier side dish and unlimited soft drinks in a pub style restaurant much cheaper. What a gem of a deli they have here in historic downtown Waukesha! It was Friday evening in autumn and my dining companion and I were on the hunt for some warm and toasty soup for dinner. We were in the Brookfield/Waukesha area and a quick search on Yelp led us to Rochester Deli. They have menus but it's an order at the counter situation. Unlike many delis, however, they do have a full blown dining room for you to enjoy your meal (they'll deliver it to your table). On any given day, they serve chicken dumpling soup as well as one soup of the day. I got the chicken dumpling soup, which was tasty. My dining companion got their soup of the day, which on this particular day was clam chowder. We split one of their turkey cheddar panini which has a beautiful spread of cranberry relish on it, along with the turkey and cheddar and made for the perfect fall accompaniment to our soup. I LOVE the Rochester Deli! I drive out from Milwaukee once a month for lunch and wish I lived closer. My favorites are the Ruben or Rachel grilled sandwiches. We made a stop in DT Waukesha and searched on Yelp to find a place for lunch. This restaurant caught our attention with lots of compliments and we decided to try it out. It did not disappoint us. We loved the clean, bright environment and the homey vibes immediately. Felt like that great neighborhood restaurant that has been around for a long time and that everyone knows and loves to go. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady and she told us her favorites. We got the most popular Reuben sandwich w chicken noodle soup and Turkey Cheddar Panini w Coleslaw and spicy sauce. The bread was perfectly toasted and the meat and cheese were flavorful and felt not too heavy or greasy at all. Everything was just simply good and well-balanced. On the go I've stopped here a few times for lunch and have been very impressed with the quality of their sandwiches. Yes, it's just a sandwich but good ingredients make it so much better. Ordering at the deli counter is quick and painless and you get your choice of a side plus a pickle. The diner area looks to be busy during lunch. If I'm in the area with time to spare I'd definitely try their full menu. I've also ordered up a cake for a special occasion.
