By far the best black owned sandwich shop in MKE. Speedy service with a smile to go with a full belly at a price that can't be beat!

We just wanted a drink and a quick bite to eat and being during a baseball game, lots of places in the area were busy. There was a good crowd there watching the game as well. It's an interesting setup, reminds me almost of a living room (with dining tables) and then the small bar area is to the side. To order food, you do it through two wall kiosks which I like because you can look at options and not feel rushed unless there's a line. Outside they have tables and a tv as well. I choose a veggie sandwich which had a good kick to it! The smaller size was good enough for me. It was a bit confusing how to get your food, from what we understood, you have to go through a door to get to the kitchen window (bathrooms are that way too) but no one calls your order number or anything. I'd suggest an improvement on that way you know your food is ready or maybe we missed something. Overall, I would return and would like to try other items on the menu!

Most of those spots only open for dinner, so I was thrilled to find that Bavette La Boucherie now serves lunch. My friend, a local, told me the restaurant originally began as a butcher shop. While that's no longer the case, the space still pays tribute to its roots -- shelves lined with kitchen knick-knacks, butcher-block counters, and a display of local provisions that hint at its past. Chef-owner Karen Bell leads the way here, and you can feel her touch throughout -- from the creative menu to the casual-elegant vibe. The décor blends exposed brick and warm wood with soft light and a friendly hum from the open kitchen. Our server, Matthew R., had only been with Bavette a couple of weeks, but his background in restaurant management showed. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Before our sandwiches arrived, we shared a cup of pork and tomatillo pozole topped with cabbage slaw and a dollop of sour cream. It was piping hot, bright, and deeply flavorful -- the kind of starter that makes you stop talking for a minute just to enjoy the next spoonful. Having read rave reviews of the Korean steak au jus, I nearly ordered it, but Matthew suggested the roast-beef with cheddar since I'm not a big lunch eater. Excellent call. The sandwich was divine -- tender, flavorful beef layered with melted cheddar on a crisp, perfectly toasted roll. The beef-fat fries had great depth of flavor, though I'd love them even more if they were twice-cooked for that extra crunch. Being more of a gin or vodka drinker, I couldn't resist the Gin Old Fashioned on the cocktail list. It was delicious -- smooth, aromatic, and balanced enough that I happily ordered a second. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bavette La Boucherie is a gem I can't wait to revisit.

I can say this place serves delicious doner kebab on fresh housemade bread on par with what I tasted in Germany. Doner Kebab can be ordered as Classic on their housemade bread, as a Wrap, as a Bowl, or as a Donerdilla (quesadilla with Doner using their wrap), and you can choose beef or chicken. They have a couple of side dishes, including fries and loaded fries, plus fountain drinks and bottled drinks. The dining room seats about 20 people. I visited twice, so far. First visit was for dine-in about 2 weeks ago, but there were large orders ahead of me, so my wait time reached a point where I asked them to switch my order to carry-out, and I ate it over 90 minutes later after my appointment. After 90 minutes, the doner kebab was still delicious even without reheating it. Ofcourse the fries became soggy as expected but seasoning was really good. I went back over this past weekend for dine-in. Wait time was only about 15 minutes, and this time the fries were perfectly crisp and still had the great seasoning blend, plus a tasty garlic sauce for dipping. They do not have ketchup for fries, and I like that. They have 3 sauces to choose from: garlic, herb, and spicy. The Classic Doner Kebeb was even better eaten fresh, but flavors were about the same as my carry-out sandwich eaten "cold," which speaks to the consistency. Be patient in your visit because it is a small team of 2 taking and prepping orders, and there may be call-in orders or large orders ahead of you. I will definitely go back to try everything else on the menu!

I had no problem eating this delicious food in such a clean well maintained restaurant, staffed by a very friendly person. We had the wraps. I have absolutely no complaints at all about eating here. Our food was fantastic, and served quickly. I highly recommend trying this restaurant located in the small strip mall behind the drug store on the intersection of highway 60 & Lone Oak Road. Compared to other public markets we've visited, it felt much smaller, with roughly 30 or so vendors and food stalls to explore. Parking was also a hassle and added to the frustration of the visit. Once inside, one thing that stood out was how often we were reminded that the market would be closing soon. While we understood the closing time and weren't trying to stay past it, multiple reminders from different vendors made us feel a bit rushed as we looked around. There were some interesting food and shopping options, and it's worth a quick stop if you're already in the area. However, based on our experience, it didn't quite live up to the hype and wasn't as impressive as other public markets we've visited.

First time here…read more Food: We were excited to try some Somali/African cuisine. For beverages, we ordered the chai tea and the mango smoothie. I was expecting a plain chai tea, but what I received was actually a chai latte. What a wonderful surprise! It wasn't the type of chai latte I might expect from a local coffee shop, but it was better than many I've had. We started with a couple of veggie sambusas. They were excellent. Hot, crisp, and fresh, with a generous filling and served with a side of mint chutney. Together, they made a fantastic flavor combination. We also ordered hummus and pita bread. Both were fresh, tasty, and well presented. The final part of our meal was the Goat Platter. It arrived hot and fresh, with generous portions. The goat meat was delicious and tender. The serving was large enough that I took half home, and it will make great leftovers. Service: The gentleman at the counter was friendly and efficient. He was very attentive, bringing each item to our table. He seemed genuinely proud of the food, its presentation, and our reaction to it. There was also a woman in the back, whom I believe was doing most of the cooking, and I had a chance to thank her as well. Atmosphere: The restaurant is small and unassuming. It was clean and well lit, thanks to the large front windows. It appears that most of their business is takeout, but there are several tables available for dining in. We were the only people eating there during our visit, so it was very quiet. Overall: We were super impressed with this little spot serving excellent Somali/African food. The quality of the food, the warm service, and the generous portions made for a wonderful first experience. We'll definitely be back.
