I've been craving a pastrami sandwich for several weeks and finally had the chance to visit the LBD to give their take a try. Served on a some tasty rye bread the sandwich included an ample portion of pastrami that was cooked to perfection, along with cheese, lettuce, tomato and a few pieces of onion made for an incredibly tasty sandwich that definitely satisfied my craving. Although definitely short on pastrami when compared to a New York deli, perhaps they could offer a piled high version to put the sandwich over the top! The service was fantastic and the restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere. My only complaint would be that there were small bugs flying around the self serve soda machine, not cool. If I could give no stars I would. Opened at 10, we arrived at 1020. I'm assuming they opened late as they weren't quite ready for business. The sample dessert was mold on the counter, nothing in the cases, the soda dispenser had no syrup added yet. Our two Mac n cheeses came out after a long wait, and were simply not edible. My friend had the pulled pork Mac n cheese, it was lukewarm and the Mac n cheese was tasteless. I had the gluten free Mac n cheese, not edible. Lukewarm, doughy tortellini stuck under some sort of yellow soupy "cheese" sauce. I asked if anything was made there and was told it was all vendor made. Disgusting. I was so excited for this place to open and had high hopes. Sadly, I don't think I will be returning anytime soon which is unfortunate. Menu: They seemed to have a big menu however no paper menu option so trying to search through the menu in line was a bit overwhelming and hard to look through calmly without feeling rushed. Pricing/food: It cost 40$ for a ham and cheese sandwich and two orders of mac and cheese. The ham and cheese sandwich bread was very dry, we thought it was going to come toasted, maybe we needed to ask for that? So that was disappointing. The mac and cheese looked good but arrived luke warm, definitely not worth the price. I thought Panera was expensive, but after eating here it seems super reasonable by comparison with much better food. Coupons: I was able to use 5$ coupon and it still be 40$. Also they had an ad that says" buy one 25$ gift card get one free" but I was told that's only if your purchase that online (which it did say in the fine print) but was disappointing to say the least once we saw the prices. The female owner had come to tell me that, but didn't seem very nice with her delivery. Drink menu was confusing. It was cold inside. A lot of staff present and they had a man walking around the floor which made me feel like I was in a lunch room being watched. Maybe he was to pick up dishes, but not a very comfortable experience. There was a woman walking around cleaning the tables occasionally with a bucket and a rag that she would put back by the window, didn't seem very sanitary. I don't understand the reviews! This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Every detail was perfect. It was around $15 for the beef and gravy sandwich, fountain drink, and bag of chips which I felt was slightly high, but definitely worth it after taking my first bite. So so delicious. Soft, perfectly toasted bread. Flavorful tender beef. Gravy good enough to drink. High quality cheese. Everything seems extremely clean, there's plenty of seating, the staff was courteous and attentive, the music is great. I'll certainly be back! read more

First time for breakfast this morning, and I was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast sandwich had a fresh egg, bacon, and American cheese (but the good stuff, not the name brand). I received my order quickly, as it wasn't packed, but for freshly made, it was really quick. For $7.99, it was definitely worth the price. I REALLY want this place to succeed. It's a great location and the food is decent. However, the prices are incredibly high and the service needs to improve. I ordered their pulled pork sandwich and a bowl of the broccoli cheese soup. The portions were very small. My pulled pork came on a small hamburger bun. At other places, the meat is piled on. The meat barely covered the bun. My soup did not come with a roll and butter (advertised on menu) and I did not get a bag of chips with my sandwich order (advertised on menu). After paying for my order, my total was almost $24. That is without a beverage because that would have been another $4. I know they just opened, but their staff was not very friendly and the cashier was very impatient with an elderly couple in front of me ordering. It was not busy and there were plenty of tables open. The food was decent, but not worth the price for the portions being served. I wish they would have done without the fancy to-go bags and stickers on the styrofoam containers, and passed the savings on to the customer. Again, I really want them to succeed. The interior was clean and it looked like they had some nice bakery items in the cases. I will likely try their food again in a few weeks and hope that the prices have been reduced or the portion sizes increased. At the very least, I hope they have better customer service. read more

I stopped in for an early dinner around 4pm on a Wednesday and ordered the Beef Temptation sandwich. The service was very quick and my food was great. The sandwich comes with a pickle, chips, and a drink. The interior of the restaurant is clean, updated, with black and white decor. Damn, Damn, Damn! I REALLY wanted to like this place but I was severely underwhelmed. The food "tasted" okay. We had a pastrami sandwich and a BLT. There were VERY few options as far as sandwiches go - I think maybe 5 (BLT, Ham and Cheese, Pastrami, Turkey, and something else....) And can you really call yourself a Deli if you don't have freshly sliced meat in the deli case to choose from? I was very disappointed that they didn't have any fresh salads to choose from. The Pastrami Sandwich ($15.99) came with coleslaw, but my BLT ($9.99) did not. Both came with chips. Both sandwiches came in heavy stock wax/butcher paper and a plastic box, which seems VERY excessive. And the to go bag was a heavy duty bag that I would expect would come from a department store. (Tip: Spend less money on your packaging and pass that savings on to the customer) Service was okay - It did take about 10 minutes to get my two sandwiches - and there was no one in front of me in line and it looked like most people that were sitting in the restaurant had already eaten. The place looks clean and beautiful - and I would be willing to give it another try, but not until they update their menu and get more traditional deli fare! read more

Stopped in here over the weekend on the way back from a soccer tournament. Was pleasantly surprised with a great overall experience. The service was excellent. I ordered the recommended corned beef sandwich - quite good. One daughter ordered the ham legend, kids menu - devoured it. The other, the chicken torilla soup - she loved it. This place has some HUGE shoes to fill. Ninos Italian bakery which was the previous establishment had their family running the day to day and the customer service, love, warmth and reasonable costs were well appreciated and loved by the community. It was always packed on every Sunday. We were somewhat disappointed to see the costs be somewhat out of line with what received in terms of portions and quality. Food tasted well, not disappointed there, but was not worth the cost. Needs to come done 20-30% for it to be sustainable in Menomonee falls or the portions need to be giant. Also $9.99 for a slice of cheesecake is also a bit out of line. I know overhead is high these days but the pastrami sandwhich is about the same as an Arby's corned beef at under $7. read more

Not worth the price $15.99 for a Jazz Cobb salad It was smaller and more expensive than most places. The Avocado was bad as in browning and a weird taste, very little lettuce, and the chicken and bacon were dry and overcooked. If I didn't spend so much money for it, and my refrigerator wasn't so bare, I would have tossed it outside to the animals. What I didn't eat did go into the trash. My husband stopped to get me a sandwich and piece of chocolate cake on opening day. We were so excited about the Grand Opening finally! But, maybe we should have waited:( We bought the turkey sandwich - it was ok. Nothing special, just deli turkey shaved on plain white bread which tasted like the white bread we buy every week at the supermarket. Then they add some lettuce and mayo. The food is good. About typical for a deli. The wait time for food...do you have 40 minutes to wait for a sandwich, with only 10 people in the establishment? If so, it's for you. If, however, you're a little or even slightly pressed for time. Not your place. I waited 40 minutes for a sandwich despite asking about my order twice. I gave it two stars because the sandwiches themselves are decent. Ally's Bistro does the whole deli thing much better, however. Even when they're slammed, never longer than a 15 minute wait. First off, I want to mention the tone of the employees. After they messed up my order, they hesitantly took it back. I had ordered the ham sandwich, toasted without some of the toppings. Not only did it NOT come warm, it had everything on it. I kindly asked if they could fix it- and the worker took it with an annoyed face. They were not very busy, so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. After I got my food back, it was one of the most basic sandwiches I've ever eaten. For $15??? No way. The prices are much too high for a bistro deli and for a "quick lunch" don't bet on it too much. Took around 20 minutes for one sandwich. Also, the person I'm assuming was the owner had a rude demeanor on her face and was just staring out, scanning the room in the front. A little weird.
