I got a dozen eggs for $4. I loved the color and variety of the local vegetables. However some produce isn't homegrown or organic. Cash is needed. I love going to the Rochester Public Market! there is so much to see and bargains everywhere! local farmers bring their produce to the market on Thursdays and Saturdays and in the height of each season you will find competitive prices everywhere. great quality and fresh food! and not just produce. there is a bread bakery with dozens of types of bread, a cheese shop with olives too. a fish market, a butcher, bakeries, coffee shop, it goes on and on. there are even tropical type fruit available as well like bananas, pineapple, mangoes etc. you can buy 1 or a box full! make a point to go if you are in town. read more

This was a really fun market to visit. I love when cities keep their public markets alive as I grew up working in one. This one was really cool, I liked the varieties of locally grown and international foods. I had a really good apple cider chai, and got some cheese, and fruits and veg. Once we discovered this farmers market, we've been coming by every few weeks. It's a good bang for your buck and you can get fresh fruits and veggies at a great price. I like that the vendors vary and their produce changes depending on what's in season. The vendors are also really friendly and love to just chat as well. Parking can be difficult but people are constantly coming and going so if you can usually eventually find a spot. Most vendors are cash only so make sure to come prepared, if not there is an ATM nearby but they do charge a fee on top of what your bank already charges you. read more

We did not get here early and were a little intimidated by the traffic leading to the market, but there was nothing to worry about. Seamless experience. We found parking easily and were on our way. This was my first time at the public market. I just wish we had more time to explore. My husband and I had an hour to kill, so we thought we would give it a quick check. I think this is going to become a new regular weekend stop. Parking was easy. We came in on the Union street entrance. There was a parking lot that was very close, and surprisingly empty. Paying was easy, there was a QR code and then you entered the amount of time you would be there. We paid 5.00 to park. I thought it was a great way to go, since we didn't have time to drive around looking for a space. I was amazed at all the wonderful looking fresh seafood, veggies, and plants. They have so many awesome vendors. The biggest decision was where to start. I had a chai from the chai guy, with almond milk. Loved it! The staff working there were very friendly and we ended up in a fun conversation with them. The. We moseyed on over to this wonderful empanada vendor. The name is failing me at the moment. But they are very easy to find. Just follow the long line, which moves very quickly. These vendors were also happy, funny, and ready to serve. We ordered 1 pork and onion and 1 beef and onion empanada. I really enjoyed the fact that behind their station and outside they had small tables set up, with their different sauces available. The set up is very smart given their limited space. The filling and sauces were wonderful. The empanada dough itself was a little too crispy, but I blame the time of day we went. It was 2 pm and they obviously have to make them in advance. I would definitely go earlier in the day and try them again. We walked around and took it all in, we had some excellent samples, of homemade salsas, and homemade jams. We ended up buying some wonderful fresh asparagus, to cook for dinner later. There are also a number a very cool looking restaurants surrounding the public market, that I would love to give them a try. One that stood out for me was the Velvet belly. It was nice seeing people tooling around, smiling, and enjoying the sunny Saturday. This was an impressive must do. It can make a bored Saturday into a cool foodie adventure. read more

Reminded me a lot of my time in the DC-Baltimore area...we would go to Baltimore to their markets. Same idea here... some great food options as well (Cure is fantastic). The seafood stands (for Rochester) are excellent...can get some oysters, clams, porgy, seabass...things I grew up w in New England. While parking is a nightmare, the public market is a place to visit when you're in Rochester. There were so many different vendors. Some of them were fresh from the farms and some of them were just bringing in Warehouse style, fruits and vegetables. The farm prices were affordable and looked delicious. There was everything from mushrooms to flowers to focaccia bread. There were other small vendors with things that didn't really interest me like the salves and CBD stuff, but the food vendors were legit. Like I said, parking is a nightmare though so you have to either get there earlier or hope for a handicap place but even then it's harder to get in and out with all the traffic and people like to park in spots that are not actual parking spots. Otherwise, if you go in knowing what you're looking for and what prices should be, then you should walk out with something that interests you. read more

What: small farmers market focused mainly on fresh produce, vegetables, meat and fish. There are also a few vendors selling baked goods and food items that are ready to eat and some you take home to cook. There are vendors inside and some outside under tents under the awning. There are few restaurants shops along one side. We especially enjoyed the fresh squeezed juices (right when you walk in) from Market Squeeze and the guys working there are super nice. We got both the green juice (I prefer no ginger) and strawberry orange pineapple (the best - it was so delish) We also got a veggie tamale inside the market. This was really tasty and I recommend with the green sauce! Hubby and DD also got churros which they said were good. The lady selling them could use a smile but whatevs. I wanted to buy one apple from one of the outside vendors, but it was $5 a bushel and I didn't want to bring a bushel on the plane! Parking: free parking in the nearby lot. Tip: many of the vendors also accept ApplePay so you don't have to panic about not having cash. read more

First, and foremost, if I could give this market 6 stars it would definitely deserve it. Special thanks to fellow YELPER Nikki G for writing a review on her experience there with her boyfriend. I've been to many local farmers/public markets in the Buffalo, NY and surrounding areas, this by far has to be one of the best. This was a random stop, a little bit out of my way to Corning Museum of Glass, to pick up the sun catcher I made in honor/memory of my mom for Mothers Day. Very diverse, and quite busy, but comfortable to walk around and check everything out. On my drive in, I did see a street sign that indicated that the market has been around since 1905. The traffic control into the market parking was well structured, and there were security guards around. I would recommend to take your time if you plan to experience everything. There are three different sections, and an indoor one for a total of four . The market offer on their website different events, from Flower City Days, Food Truck days, live music etc. The market was a bit overwhelming, but well worth trying something new. Its fun to browse, grab something to eat, and get bargains on fruits, vegetables, baked good, honey, jewelry, cheese, and other random finds. I'm grateful to have brought my cooler for my purchases, even though I didn't need any more flowers for my porch outside, I couldn't resist. read more

This is a must stop if you're in the Rochester area. The produce is fresh, plentiful and well priced. We had a delicious chai tea from The Chai Guy stand and both the owner and his daughter were incredibly friendly. The only downside is it can get quite crowded - try to get there early! read more

4.5 stars. Many activities are held here, from food truck events, to festivals, to farmer's market. Very large open area with several different stalls during the Farmer's Market (probably the largest farmer's market in the area). I especially enjoy the farmer's market where you can peruse fresh produce. Parking is free (but can be very tough to find). There are food options there to grab a bite too. Such a fun place to hang out on a drizzly day. We arrived straight from breakfast but still managed to end up with plenty of comestibles. Prices seemed very reasonable- we got 3 quart boxes of beautiful peppers for five dollars! We also bought candy crisp apples (definitely would have bought two or three other varieties including macoun if we lived here). My favorite purchase of the trip was cookies from the teen business- I'm a sucker for entrepreneurial teenagers. So far we have had a peanut butter cookie (which was soft and had legit PB flavor).Still on deck are chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and white chocolate. read more

The Rochester Public Market is one of my favorite places in the city. It's a hub of activity during summer weekends, but they are open all year with a lot of good options in the shed during the colder months. Produce here is always the lowest priced, and I can always find that specialty spice or recipe inspiration. The vendors are amazing. I go further than produce here - usually also buying any fish (I bought scallops yesterday at $8/pound) and sirloin ($25 for 5 fillets.) A stop at Scotts II or Javas is a must as your peruse. I recommend coming in with an open mind and seeing where the fresh, seasonal availability takes you. I tend to try and only buy for that day or the next, as some of the fresh veggies and fruits will go bad on you faster than some of the preserved produce you'd buy at a grocery store. Pro tip: I basically furnished/decorated my entire home at their public garage sales (on Sundays through the summer) on the CHEAP. Go forth and support local, Yelpers :) read more

I have gone every weekend and I love it. It's almost always busy, so go early in the day if crowds aren't your thing.

I'm a Believer. I believe in wearing masks. I believe in using hand sanitizer. I believe in obeying social distancing. I believe in supporting farmers and small businesses, and buying local. What I don't believe is how many VENDORS were not wearing masks. I honestly didn't see one customer without one. I saw several vendors without masks...vendors handling food and plants. I stopped by Duke's Donuts for a coffee, not realizing until after I paid, that he wasn't wearing a mask. He said he didn't have any donuts and was in the midst of making them. Yikes! There is nothing, including starvation &/or the end of the human race, that would have made me buy a donut or anything else from him. The Public Market had numerous signs stating that EVERYONE was required to wear a mask. There was a table in the one building I was in, with a huge bottle of hand sanitizer for customers. There are numerous signs stating to keep a 6-foot social distance from others. Arrows directing traffic flow were taped on the ground. I think the Public Market was doing the best job they could. The vendors? Not so much. That cost 1 star. That said, by the time I left about 30 minutes later, people were flocking to the public market, almost as usual. What wasn't usual was the overwhelming majority of stations in the one building I visited, were empty. Gone. People that I knew to be vendors (& shopped from) in the same spots for years, even before I moved to Pittsburgh and moved back, over 18 years later. I can only imagine it was because of the pandemic. And that is really sad. There was no amount of colorful, lush flowers that could make me smile after seeing that. There is no joy in Rochesterville (what Rochester was called until 1823). read more

I love this time of year and the market! I love buying produce and more at this venue. So much cheaper than Wegmans. You do have to be careful and look before you buy but for the most part everything is decent quality. We usually walk the entire place first then go back and buy, as we look for best pricing and quality. I like the new building! Restrooms are clean and tidy. Lots of vendors in the new space. The one vendor I really miss this year is Triano's :( They had a great selections of meat: steaks, homemade Italian sausage. Guess I'll have to make a trip to their store. Also love that the Public Market puts on other events. I love Bands on the Bricks in July and August! My daughter loves the Food Truck Rodeos. Great place to shop, wander and people watch! read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here on the last Saturday in April to check it out. We are from Buffalo. This is what the Broadway Market should be. We were so impressed by this market. It is stellar. There is anything you could want in a market and more. We will definitely be back soon with a cooler in tow to get the meat and fish and produce and other delicious and cool things we saw. Also, explore the neighborhood around this. There are many food vendors on site. We got a red and a white hot dog from Stan and Maryann's and it was great. They do only accept cash. We also got some emapandas and fried plantains from Juan and Maria's. I love this place. read more

The public market is a wonderful place, and I am so glad we have a place to buy fresh produce year round. There is a great variety of products for sale, both in outdoor booths and in a small indoor area. Do be aware that if you show up towards the end of the open hours, a lot of the vendors will already have lefts, and there will not be much left to buy. I'd suggest getting there early, in the first half of the hours they are open. I particularly like buying eggs there, they are really fresh and generally at a fairly low price. read more

Everything and anything!! We go every weekend for vegetables and fruits. Won't go anywhere else. Just off the top of my head: figs, raspberries, blackberries, mangoes, strawberries, peppers, mushrooms, avocados, sauces, meat, cheese, juices... for lower prices than any grocery store around. Most places outside are cash only. ATMS available. Inside, some take card. Bring your own bags and carts! It gets very hot here in the summer, and typically there are lots of people. Dress for the weather (if you're going in hot or cold..), be mindful of where you are standing as well. One thing that should not be happening- please don't bring your poor dogs in this heat. There is a heat warning ongoing as I am typing this. Why did I see three or four dogs (that were NOT service animals)?? Leave them at home! I don't believe they are even allowed at the public market UNLESS if they are trained service animals. read more

I finally made it to the big public market... wow just wow. I did make a rookie mistake and came on a Saturday around noon, when it was packed! At least I was with an experienced market shopper who knew exactly where to park, a smaller free lot within walking distance. Our first stop was Javas for coffee and then we were off. We first walked through checking out all the different vendors, produce and different prices. I was surprised how different the avocados were priced the further you walked. First few tables they were $1 each but further down you could purchase 3 for $1... looked about the same size. After we checked things out I was ready to shop! I got sweet, spanish and red onions. Also found some fresh garlic and lemons too. Loved the open tables and all the fresh air while shopping but it was the prices that made it a success! I saved so much! The only thing I would change next time is going a lot earlier! read more

I love places that pride fresh produce and then sell it proudly to people and then people make it into such a big deal that it gets its own permanent fixture called a Public Market that happens every weekend. Phenomenal place. In terms of produce, it is my fav., you can find good cheap, fresh, and beautiful produce in large amounts straight from people's yards, orchards, or fields. It's incredible. I actually recommend saving your weekend shopping to coming here first before hitting Wegmans and grocery stores to add other ingredients you may need from what treasures you get at the market. If you're someone into making jams, jarring, pickling, then this is your heaven. For example, for someone into tomato sauce, fall season in late sept- October would be your best place to pick up literally a 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes for only 3$. It's nuts. I love that people are proud of a local market. Seattle's Pike Place gets the top prize for most BEAUTIFUL produce. Philly's Reading Terminal gets the top prize for best restaurants and food options. Philly's Italian Market is fresh, but it is pale in comparison in terms of quality and diversity. Atlanta's Curbside Market just has history, but nothing compared to these that I've listed. The Boys Farmer's Market in Delray, FL gets the prize for sweetest pineapples and best baked goods. Rochester however, gets the prize for quantity, freshness, and overall affordable and high quality produce. That's my comparison of markets along the east coast.... There's free parking near the entrance. Not too difficult to find the parking either and there's availability of parking space even on a Saturday noon. There's a big entrance and at least 30-40 vendors for fruits and veggies. There's one guy who sells only potatoes and two other vendors that sell only tomatoes. For the most part, everyone carries varieties of melons, plums, broccoli, peppers, purple cauliflower, and other varieties. For those who love colorful displays like myself, you're going to be clicking away photos at such beautiful produce and colors. It's bustling and people are excited and buying produce fast. Not a single vendor is siting around twiddling their thumbs. There 's the outdoor option in the open area and there's another housed inside the Warehouse building. This is where things that require fridging and cooking are housed. Things like seafood, meats, foods, and wines are sold in here. There's a clean and bright public bathroom, not Johnnies outside. Food options: Not that great. There's a good banh mi and spring roll stand, some barbecue, American options and that's it. The banh mi place however is poppin' in business. People are standing in line for a while b/c they keep selling out and it's fresh. You can leave the market square area and trek to the nearby bars and restaurants lined along the road by this market though. If you wait towards 3 p.m., supposedly prices drop for things like flowers and perishables. Bring your own bags and maybe a little cart if you're going to be doing major shopping. Don't forget, it's hard to lug a whole pumpkin to your car with your other bargains and produce! read more

The Roach-infested Pubic Markup is named as such because (a) there are more bugs than Louisiana, (b) the guys don't manscape and so... you know the rest, and (c) everything is expensive, hence the mark-up moniker. Everything I just said is false. Except for the mark-up price, some of the stuff at this market is not the cheapest you'd hope to find at a market, but there are still good deals to be found and some amazing stuff here. It's one of my favourite markets in the country, although it's a little way behind St. Lawrence (Toronto), the Mexican markets in LA (such as Santee Alley), West Side Market (Cleveland) and North Market (Columbus), and my fave at Reading Terminal (Philly). I do like it more than Broadway and WSB in Buffalo (which are both great nevertheless), the overpriced overtouristy Quincy in Boston, and the overly-fancy Chelsea in NYC. However the Golden Mall in the basement of Flushing, Queens reigns supreme. Now that I've named all the other markets... What to get if you come here: probably some Juan & Maria's, or some food from the storefront bakery near the NW entrance. There are lots of options though, including a nice funnel cake truck that is usually closed, but when it's not, watch out. Your arteries will not thank you. Lots of produce and cute people and the usual market vibe, but it means a lot to the city of Rochester, and it's out in the open air, close to the centre, and it's really a great place to come on every level. Just watch out for the roaches, the pubes, and worst of all, the mark-ups. read more

Many of reviews are nostalgic and bring back fond memories of great times because Rochester public market is staple in the community. Food here is offered at a fraction of the price found at Wegmans. There are many, many healthy options available. If I have any complaint, it would be that one really needs to thoroughly check the quality of the products prior to buying. Like with any fresh produce, you should inspect. There have been times here when we have bought food and it has expired rather quickly. I love coming here year round. During the summer months, parking is impossible on Saturdays. It seems like the market has grown by leaps and bounds in popularity more recently and I hear the city has plans of expansion and renovation. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this Rochester, NY gem. read more
