We went here because I was given a gift card and had a great time! I made reservations for 3:00 the same day, but there was no need, because if the weird time of day. Our server was so kind and helpful with my husband's odd allergy. They made sure he knew exactly what he was eating. Our soup and salad were very delicious, but very small portions. We both had the kids grilled cheese and then shared a browned butter chocolate chip cookie. The setting is cute and a little quirky. It's not very close to home, so I don't think I'll be back. I've been to The Rind several times but finally getting around to reviewing it, and I'm glad I've waited because they've made some serious improvements. The seating area now feels like a legit place to have dinner (it used to feel more like a diner tbh). They also have real wine glasses now -- I used to hate the stemless ones they used before. Very welcome changes. The wine selection is good, though definitely leaning towards the natty side -- not necessarily a bad thing but worth mentioning for those considering this place. BTG pricing is a bit high but bottle pricing is reasonable. Food is outstanding. Last night, I shared the jamón iberico, bread & butter, pretty potatoes, a salad, and short rib with some friends. All were delicious but the pretty potatoes stole the show. Service is friendly and helpful. Overall, I really like this place and it's the rare one that has actually improved over time. read more

We loved the concept of a cheese shop + restaurant. the vibe was bright and hip, not too busy but busy enough even on a weeknight. the server was friendly and kind and took their time to walk us through the menu. there are daily offerings that are different, such as the burger and the beet salad, which we went for and enjoyed. the cheese plate and wine selection was also delicious. this is definitely a favorite of mine, especially because we got to visit the store after dinner and got to buy some of our favorite ingredients/snacks from our trip to europe; double 0 flour for pasta, spanish paprika, and some crackers! cannot wait to come back. read more

Some friends invited us to dinner here and we were thrilled to join them! At first glance, the menu seemed a bit unusual, but it was fun to try a variety of different things. Our server, Zane, was amazing! He walked us through the whole menu and gave us a bunch of great suggestions. We started with a cheese and charcuterie plate which was excellent. Then, we saw the table next to us eating something that looked fantastic. Zane told us it was the Pretty Potatoes so we ordered that and it tasted even better than it looked! We shared the beef and fish dishes and they both had excellent flavor. Then, we topped things off with the Big Bopper, an ice cream sandwich unlike any I have had before. I wish I could give this place 10 stars!!! I've only eaten here once but it was one of the best food experiences I've ever had. My dining companion and I got the current cheese and charcuterie board which was absolutely fantastic. The high quality of everything presented and how thoughtfully curated the items were was very apparent while enjoying the board. We also go the mushroom toastie which is actually one of the best things I've ever eaten. Like, singing from the mountaintops good. Everything about it was divine. Cooked and seasoned to perfection- the textures and flavors work so well together. We ended our meal with the olive oil cake. Beautifully delicate flavors, not too sweet, moist. This place has become our go to local spot. We just moved to Berkley and we are extremely lucky to have such a quality restaurant so close to us. This gem is connected to Mongers Provisons which is a fantastic meat, cheese and wine shop (also highly recommended). The menu is very seasonal with great cocktails to match. Most importantly, the staff is so warm and inviting. They are all so skilled and charming that it makes the experience seamless and the atmosphere very approachable. We went to the Rind last night after talking about it for months following a visit to Mongers Provisions (the store that The Rind is inside of). It was a lovely experience and the food was for the most part very delicious. Service was friendly and good but a tad on the slow side (not our server's fault, they seemed pretty busy and I think she may have been the only waitress working, so she was absolutely juggling a ton). They were out of the "pretty potatoes" which was disappointing because they sounded super delicious. The restaurant is a little dark and when very busy can get a little loud. The three women at the table next to us were having a very loud conversation (of which I picked up every word) and I could barely hear my fiancé, which I didn't love, so the acoustics are a bit odd. That being said, the decor and vibe is very home-y and everyone that works there was very pleasant and lovely, from the hostess to the man that refilled our waters. We got the charcuterie plate (selected two cheeses and two meats; comes accompanied by fig jam, mustard, sardinian crackers, and cornichons), the caesar salad, the short rib, the arctic char, and the olive oil cake for dessert. All of the food was really exceptional and delicious except I found the short rib to be a tad dry. We each ordered a cocktail, I got a spritzer and my fiancé got a seasonal Pimm's cup-type cocktail that used house-made cranberry syrup. They can accommodate gluten free diets easily which is also a plus. Overall, we will absolutely be coming back!I want to try that Wagyu Pastrami Reuben! read more

Love love love this place. Menu is always having delicious specials. Highly recommend the bread and butter. Lately they've had a dish with mushrooms, egg yolk and broth and omg I love it. The charcuterie boards are really good too, and staff is always helpful in picking items. Really like the space and love that it's connected to Mongers- we usually pop over and buy stuff after. For dessert I often get the chocolate tasting flight which actually has a decent amount of chocolate and it's delicious. Also they have great wine. Wowza! We've dropped in for dinner twice in the last two weeks and are blown away. The space is lovely-simple and inviting. Their wine list extensive-lots of European libations to taste and enjoy. Build your own charcuterie tray-the server will help and answer questions about options, although honestly they're all delicious. I live in the Bay, where there's lots of great restaurants, and I was missing those on this trip until I found this hidden gem. The service was friendly and fun. They were knowledgeable without taking themselves too seriously. It's the kind of community where you can (and we did) chat up the folks at the table next to you while you enjoy a great cocktail in a dimly lit, cozy bar. i expected the food taste and presentation to be next level because of the affiliation with Mongers. The grilled cheese was greasy and average. It came with a couple cornichorns on the plate which were fine but not visually appealing on the plate. A side salad or fruit would look nicer. The tomato soup was good not great--it seemed like there should have been a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. The couscous was the best item we ordered. Service was ok. Oh my goodness! I NEVER write reviews but my dinner at the RIND was just that amazing! I was visiting from San Francisco where I think we've got some pretty fantastic restaurants and was super impressed by The Rind and their neighboring shop 'Mongers Provisions'. First off the design was super inviting and you could tell just how much thought when in to each detail, be sure and check out the custom made tinned fish wall paper in the entry. The staff were all fantastic, friendly, funny and super knowledgeable about the food and amazingly delicious cocktails they serve. Many customers knew one another throughout the evening which made it feel very inviting and as if you were at a friend's house for dinner. Now the food WOW everything was so so good! We started with two different varieties of anchovy in the most delicious olive oil paired with the yummiest bread from a local baker. The squash salad was divine and all the veggies /greens were incredibly fresh. We shared the steak and fish which were both superb. Finally the olive oil cake with a dollop of fresh whipped cream was unforgettable and probably one of the best desserts I have ever had. yUM! And then when you're done eating your meal you can pop next door to MONGERS to purchase many if not all of the products you enjoyed at dinner. They have an extensive variety of oils, vinegars, jams, tinned fish, wines, non alcoholic beverages (that taste like a cocktail!) chocolates, meats and of course cheese.
