Home from work today, I decided to try something from my collection to try. Sauntered into Pearls Deep Dive for an early dinner. Parking was no problem as I was lucky to find metered parking just steps away from the front door. I walked in immediately taken with the charming decor and darkly lit romantic vibes, which is my favorite esthetic for any restaurant. The seating at the bar was yummy, thick comfy seats. The bartender greeted me warmly. He was cool and I hate that I didn't ask his name. He was attentive and masterful with the spirits. He asked if it was my first time, which it was, and since so, made me a tasty "welcome" drink with gin that was fantastic. I also ordered "the panty snatcher" a concoction of vodka, grapefruit, St Germain, rose water and orange. It was amazing. I will definitely be back for drinks. The drink menu is quite tempting. I had the Corn, Corn, Corn dish, which is polenta and corn kernels topped with popcorn. Yes, super unique and interesting. I had to try it. The popcorn was so light and flavorful straight out of the kitchen, but became chewy as it sat atop the piping hot polenta. I really enjoyed it however. Next time I'll eat all the popcorn first. I also had lobster dumplings, which was good but the dish wasn't cooked through. The filling wasn't hot and the pasta was very under on some bites. I was the first customer for the evening, so I can forgive that faux pas. I really enjoyed myself and I will return time and time again to try everything. The menu offers many things I love. This was an unexpected but amazing find! We had to enter this place in order to get to Pinky's due to construction. We walked in and fell in love with the beautiful decor! Pictures can't adequately express how lovely it was. We came back after going to Pinky's and sat at the bar. We ordered some beautiful cocktails and relaxed and chatted with some other people at the bar. We really enjoyed our bartender who was extremely quick, efficient, attentive and friendly, even though she was training someone. I most definitely could not do that job! We considered ordering food but decided to hold off. I was meeting a group of crazy women for birthday drag queen bingo. They had a lobster roll that looked amazing though. That welcome cocktail!! Came on Wednesday night and it was delicious. You can make a reservation on Resy but during the week it wasn't busy. We ordered the scallops, lobster Mac and cheese and the lobster dumplings. Cute spot with themed decor and blue velvet seats in the main area. We ordered Brussels sprouts, lobster dumplings, lobster Mac and cheese, lump crab cake, 3 west coast and Cajun grilled oysters too. $99.64. The lobster dumplings were yummy, packed with a decent amount of lobster lump meat in it. Sauce is light and balanced. The west coast oysters are small, but clean and tasty. The Cajun grilled oysters were decent. The Brussel sprouts are crispy, and quite tasty. The lobster Mac and cheese is quite good get. Nice big chunks of lobster meat. Super ooey gooey cheesiness too. The lump crab cake was good. Lots of crab meat in it too. The corn salsa goes decently with it. This was amazing from start to finish. We waited for too long at the front door for someone to greet us but eventually someone saw us. We had a reservation but it was not super busy when I went on a Wednesday night. Our server brought us a bowl of truffle popcorn and a complimentary welcome cocktail. It was some sort of lavender gin, which I didn't love but I don't like gin or lavender. The popcorn was delicious and she even refilled our bowl. Full disclosure - I only stopped in for a drink after spending time upstairs at Pinky's, so this review only pertains to that. My girls and I were sat at the bar without a reservation. We were looking to try out the drinks, as this place had recently opened. I tried out their pickle martini - I've never had one before but was up for trying it! It was good - nothing too crazy off of a regular martini. My friend got a cosmo, which was very strong. Our bartender was under 21 - she seemed a little confused on how to make the drink at the time - referred to a manual and other bartending staff. This was the perfect spot for a nice date night. We went on Valentine's Day (with reservations). It is so cute in side which is a big bonus for me great ambiance. I thought that the lobster dumplings, the cheeseburger and the carrot cake really stood out. I was less impressed by the drinks... we had the mai tai, Smokey the bear, and "tequila cocktail (that's the name of the cocktail)" and none really were better than the complimentary cocktail that we were given when we sat down. What a hidden gem or should I say pearl. I came here expecting another disappointing seafood and left blown away. Let me start off by saying the attention to detail the restaurant has put into their environment is astounding. It's a gorgeous restaurant with a chic vibe. The waitstaff is attentive and obviously well trained. This meal was as much about the food as curating a dining experience which they did excellently. We were seated promptly, given a complimentary truffle butter popcorn and a welcome cocktail before quickly being given attention to by our wonderful waiter. After we indulged in those aperitifs, we began what I would consider some of the most high-quality eating I've had in Michigan on par with some of the best of them here. The techniques used by the chefs in the kitchen were astounding. Their attention to detail on each dish was fantastic. We started with fresh oysters which were delicious and served on ice and kelp with a delicious mignonette. This was followed by perfectly cooked seared scallops and I really mean perfect. Their lobster dumpling contained HUGE pieces of lobster and had the most delicate complimentary flavors allowing the lobster to shine, bravo. Their potatoes were exquisitely prepared and covered with decadent caviar which they did not skimp on. We decided to transition from surf to turf ordering their burger and fries to finish. They prepared the burger my favorite way: a double cheese burger smashed style with truffle rosemary fries. By the end of this meal, I was in awe. The restaurant's attention to detail in the front exemplified by the well-trained waitstaff and smart dining room makes for a lovely dining experience. This is usually enough to get people in the door but the shared attention to detail in the kitchen where the chefs boast true talent and delicious food is what will keep me coming back. We went here to celebrate an early Valentine's Day and I can't recommend it enough. Our only recommendation of something to improve would be to make the menu easier to identify what items are smaller tapas style items and which are more entree sized. We loved the atmosphere, and our waiter Axel was superb. He was attentive, but gave us our space which is a nice balance to have as a server. We started with drinks, Smokey the Bear was smooth and delish, and Berry Berry Bubbly was sweeter and delightful. The Berry one was the best drink of the night. We ordered the lobster roll to share and it was the best I've ever had. The bread was buttery and toasted, the lobster was cooked well and there wasn't much filler in the salad itself. The French fries weren't great, but we didn't order it for the fries. We ordered the crab cake and while we were disappointed by the size of it (like a slider size), the flavor was phenomenal. The horseradish sauce was really good, and the corn salad was the perfect compliment. The Brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly, and the sauce on it was spicy, sweet, and not oily at all. We ordered the dancing raspberry cocktail next, and while it was a cool concept, it wasn't something I felt the need to order again. It was a totally fine cocktail, but I preferred the first two we got. We finished off our meal by ordering the crispy potato with crème fresh and caviar. The potato was crispy on the outside and soft inside, the crème fresh was perfect with it, and the caviar added a nice saltiness. We felt comfortably full when we left. We will definitely return! Read lots of reviews before going and it seemed that there were more positive than negative so we decided to check it out. It was COLD when we first walked in and it didn't warm up. We sat in round area with table lamps but were told there were no candles to light for the lamps. Another table asked the waiter to search for one and he found it and they tried to warm their hands with it but it only lasted about two minutes. Another table took their jackets off and then immediately put them back on. The popcorn and signature cocktail I read about in so many reviews are no longer served. Disappointing. Was hoping for a great tasting meal at least but it was disappointing as well. Food was not horrible but definitely wasn't great either... just middle of the road. I struggled back-and-forth about how to write this review. our drinks and food were delicious and our server was very nice, but not very attentive at all. it took almost 30 minutes between each interaction that we saw him. It truly wasn't very busy and it looked like they were fully staffed. my sister and I arrived for our reservation promptly at 7:15. it took a couple minutes for the hostess to come over and seat us at our table. Our server, Doug, met us and took our drink order. he brought us a welcome drink first, maybe 20 minutes after we ordered our first drink (we had not received our drink yet). We ordered the potato croquette with caviar (it was very nice) when he brought us the welcome cocktail. It arrived before our cocktail, and it took about 45 minutes after we ordered it for it to arrive. Service was extremely slow. We ordered dinner at 8pm after he finally brought our first round of drinks. After another long wait, it was now 9 PM and our food hadn't arrived. we were never able to order a second round as Doug never returned, although our glasses had been empty for quite some time. We finally got our dinner at 9:15. My burger was amazing but my sister wasn't a fan of her lobster roll. She said there was plenty of meat but the flavor wasn't there. She had it before and said the quality wasn't up to normal standard. We flagged Doug down for the bill and he brought it immediately. So I finally just asked her to tell me everything they're sold out of lol. I think it would've been helpful if she just stated that at the beginning. The manager that was going around checking in on things was very nice and courteous. The lobster Mac and cheese was very dry and grainy - it needs to be a little creamier and saucier. First time at Pearls and it did not disappoint! The welcome drink was refreshing and paired well with the complementary truffle popcorn. There cocktails are creative with fun names. We started out with the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer and for dinner we had the Waygu steak and the Lobster Dumplings. Wow, just wow! Oh what a night!!!! I was invited out for the evening and my friend wanted to surprise me with a new spot which recently opened up in RO. To be honest, I was completely surprised walking in the door. I knew about the sister restaurant Bohemia, which is located next door. I was so impressed by the overall vibe of this lounge style restaurant. Pearl's Deep Dive is known for seafood and small plates. The overall decor is shwanky and I love how the restaurant is divided into several seating options for guests. If you feel like eating at a table, sitting at the bar, or simply lounging on some comfy sofas, Pearl's Deep Dive is the spot for you. A lot of time and effort went into this space and the bar is spectacular. They have one of the coolest chandeliers over the bar, which also holds the vintage style stemware. The bartenders are fantastic. I want to give a special shout out "G" and "Lo" for making it a night to remember. They were so passionate about the cocktails and the menu. I love seeing people who take pride in their craft. We had such a fun time tasting many of the unique cocktails. I was surprised when offered a welcome cocktail which was delicious. How cool is that! The menu offered a variety of options. The bartender recommended the double cheeseburger as a great option to split. We also ordered an appetizer, the black truffle croquettes. These were fantastic! (It is Worth noting that her side of fries were amazing and the best part of both our dishes). The staff was very nice but our server was not knowledgeable about the menu (it's a very small menu) and she was uncomfortably casual with us in her service, language and tone, as if we were at a Coney Island. It was really off putting . At one point, when deciding/ordering apps to start with our drinks... She told us " Yeah the table is kind of small so I think that's enough food for you guys for now, you can order more later" ... who says that when your job is to encourage customers to order and try dishes?! The dark painted wall makes you feel a sense of calm but then you look through the wall windows and see the restaurant next door with a vibrant fun vibe. The drinks were fun and delicious and the oysters were delicious. My group of friends and I ordered almost everything with the kitchen menu since it was more of a Tapas style dinner and although the food was good it wasn't great for the price. I felt like for the price, the food can be more enhanced but the crispy potatoes, corn corn corn, and crab cake stood out from the rest. There were tables/lounges up front with a beautiful bar. Upon arrival we were greeted with a small bowl of popcorn and a 'welcome drink' a lavender gin cocktail. Nice touch! The menu is a mix of oysters, small plates and some larger meals. Items come out together and it definitely encourages sharing. Favorites were the Cajun oysters. We ordered 2 orders of 3, but since they were a little smaller we received 4-5 each serving which was a thoughtful touch. The truffle croquettes are a must, hot crunchy and a touch spicy cheese balls - delish! The cheeseburger was surprisingly tasty for a menu focused on seafood and it was a nice easily sharable meal. Plenty of cocktails and a full beer/wine list. Servers were friendly, food came fast. Only reason for 4 stars was the timing of drinks was a little slow and the prices were reasonable for the quality but also a touch higher than our average night out. The cocktails were flashy and creative and definitely worth the $13 price. The raw oysters were on the fishier side, the rockafeller oysters seemed like mostly mayo. The lobster roll was good but tiny. TLDR: The fake Fornasetti pillows serve as a metaphor, this photographs well but is trying to pass as something more expensive than it is. I was downtown Royal Oak for dinner at another place with my wife to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary and ended up here afterwards on accident. It had been a few years since we were in Royal Oak, so we walked around to see what was new and ran into one of their servers, Axle, who very hospitably invited us in to check out the place. After a quick briefing on both adjacent concepts (Bohemia & Pearl's) we decided to grab a drink at the bar here. This ended up being the best part of our anniversary. As expected with any great bar, their cocktail program was fantastic. My wife had an eclectic Pickle Martini (not something that I'd go for, but she absolutely loved it) and I was incredibly impressed with the Smokey The Bear cocktail. The cocktail was a PERFECT balance of flavors. The subtle honey-herb sweetness of the Drambuie paired wonderfully with their smoke infusion and rye whiskey, enough of a woodsy backbone to set a strong foundation for the Grand Marnier and orange bitters to add some fruity bite without masking the other flavors. This has easily become my new favorite cocktail, so whoever created this deserves some accolades. While the cocktail quality was something to be celebrated, the true star of the show was the staff. Our bartender, Kroop, made the entire experience an elevated level above anything that could ever be tangibly expected of a hospitality experience. It was nearly closing time when we were invited in by Axle and there were only two other couples at the bar, which would normally give any patron a "we're done soon so don't get too comfortable" vibe, but both Axle & Kroop were incredibly welcoming. Both displayed so much pride in showing off the venue and the cocktail menu, sharing the history of its origins, walking us through the beverage choices with recommendations, and really just making us feel like VIPs. The most astounding element of the experience, though, was the atmosphere of comradery established. Kroop was a masterful conduit of conversation between us and the other guests. Rather than three couples sitting in isolation as they enjoy their drinks independently, the whole bar turned into roaring conversation and laughter between absolute strangers. He could have just done the bare minimum, make drinks, check on people, cash out, etc... but Kroop was going far beyond his call of duty to really make this a memorable experience for everybody. My career was in managing high-end restaurants, bars, and luxury hotels, so I can say with confidence that I would've been lucky to have somebody like Kroop or Axle representing my brand. Both were amazing ambassadors for your venue in different ways, I walked in with no expectations and left feeling like a regular. The cocktail was just a peripheral bonus, the true experience originated in their hospitality. Pearl's Deep Dive will definitely become a usual stop for me and my wife now. You've got something very special happening that can't be manufactured on paper, an intangible "it" factor that occurs at the intersection of atmosphere, quality, and hospitality that can only be perpetuated by an engaged and passionate staff. read more
