Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. She attends Sunday service here because it's less crowded, has free parking, and is convenient for her. I decided to have an adventure. I drove out to the Kahala area and sit next to my friend. It was interesting because most of the mass is in English and some parts are in Chinese. Father Paul greeted us in Mandarin. One of the readers spoke in Cantonese. The Homily by Father Paul started in English... Then, he switched to Mandarin and presented his Homily again. Instead of using missalettes (prayer books), there are overhead monitors that display the prayers and responses in both English and Chinese. That's cool! I really enjoyed the music. The male soloist and piano player were quite good! I wanted to sing along, but my friend whispered to me that singing is not encouraged because it could potentially spread COVID. Hmmm! The doors were all open to take advantage of the natural cross ventilation from the tradewinds. The ceiling fans were also being used as well as some floor fans. The statues were intriguing! I was able to recognize St. Christopher, St. Francis, St. Therese, Our Lady of Fatima, and Mother Mary! It was a comforting feeling to be in the presence of greatness! Overall, I had a great experience here! Maybe I will visit more often because it was calm and pleasant!

Each holiday, they're sharing with the community. Easter, July, Halloween goodies. When I got the invite via event bright, I wanted to attend. When my husband and I pulled up. We. Priced that 1st Assembly of God is a huge church. Gave me the mega church vibe. As we walked up the long steps stairway, the landscape was beautiful. There were members waiting to greet us as we arrived. As we entered, there was plenty of seating. I was able to fine seats in the second row with a great view. The Christmas story was about the birth of Jesus told through song, dance while connecting to various cultures. The concert was well done, very powerful meaning. I was impressed in the entire performance.

I can always hear all the activities going on, especially during this holiday season! I was so excited to find out that they had a Christmas light display going on every night from 630-830pm all they way til Christmas! My son is only 9 months old, and the way the weather has been so crazy lately, I was super sceptical about going to the Honolulu City Lights with him. This made it so easy and convenient for a family with a young child. It wasn't too busy where we couldn't get pictures taken, and I was thankful to have a fun and safe environment to take him to experience these things for his first Christmas. There was also a choo choo train that he was able to ride, and one of the attendants were so helpful in keeping him sitting upright the entire time (he kept sliding because of his pants)so he was able to enjoy the ride! Although I do have my own amazing home church, I wouldn't mind stopping in for a service every now and then because this one seems really great too!

Services are at 8am and 10am and last between an hour to hour and a half. What makes this church different from any church you've been to are the people. Pastor Dom and his staff are great! Most churches are concerned with numbers of people attending service or how many got saved. Not NH Aloha Pauole, they are about relationships. Their mission statement is "we are committed to loving God and advancing His kingdom by loving people to a place of freedom". The members of this church are concerned about people...loving them with this revolutionary teaching from Beth Barone called Pure Love. Its basic teaching is you are loved by God for who you are, not for what you do. We are not judged by our performance and valued as God loves us. With this understanding, we strive to love others the way God loves us. Come check it out...you won't be disappointed!

A parishioner handed us a beautiful shell necklace as a welcoming gesture to visitors! Church has beautiful altar with the two saints Peter and Paul 's painting on each side of the Crucifix.

A Catholic Church in Urban Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. Across the street (Kaheka Street) from Don Quijote is Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. I had never been inside before, so, when my mom mentioned that Uncle Larry Lee's memorial service was going to be held here, I was in! There's a small, free parking lot behind and alongside the church. Just enter from Kaheka Street. We entered the church from the back entrance which faces the parking lot. The convenient restroom is located here in this reception area. There's another (front) entrance from Kaheka Street. Inside, the pews are arranged in a semi-circular fashion, facing the altar. The ceiling is really awesome! It provided a comfy, yet spacious feel. I appreciated the air conditioning, soft lighting, clean carpets, and especially the candle niche where local Saints (Father Damien and Mother Marianne Cope of Molokai) were included with the famous Saints Peter and Paul. Mom and I are familiar with Father Kahn, who said the Mass. He used to be at St. Stephen Church, our home parish. It was nice to see him again, in his same professional manner. The music was really good. The piano and guitar really complimented the songs such as "On Eagles Wings", "Here I Am Lord", "Kanaka Waiwai", and "Aloha 'Oe". Overall, I felt like this was an appropriate venue for saying farewell to Uncle Larry who was the Director of Veterans Affairs, after retiring from the US Army. He went to mass every day - walking from his apartment to The Cathedral - until his legs failed him. He was a devoted husband to Aunty Dora (RIP) and Aunty Vickie, and a loving father to his three children. Aloha 'oe, Uncle Larry... Until we meet again!
