Just an FYI -- if you happen to walk into this restaurant at the same time as people you know, even if you sit at completely different tables and have separate tabs, they'll still automatically charge an 18% gratuity on every check. They do state on the menu that an 18% gratuity will be added for groups of 5 or more, but we honestly didn't think that applied to us since we were seated at different tables with separate tabs. When I spoke to the manager about it, the responses were short, repetitive, and pretty snarky. Her explanation was: "Because you walked in as one group, were sat in the same section, and were served by the same server." $50 tip for bare minimum service. Staff is attentive and friendly. There is a bar inside and plenty of seating for larger parties/families. I think the snow crab is amazing here. Cooked perfectly. I came with my friend and her parents for one of their birthdays and we spent a lot of money on food that was ok at best. The fried rice was decent but the other stuff wasn't. The coconut shrimp was very bland and oily, the scallops tasted like mystery meat with fish flavoring, the salad was very odd, and the sauces they provided made no sense. The shrimp was a standout--great flavor and a solid bang for your buck. The catfish basket was also really good--crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The ambiance was great, relaxed and perfect for a casual night out. The real highlight, though, was the service. Our server was super friendly, and when one of my friends accidentally left his card behind, the server ran out in the rain to return it to us at the car. We had a group of 11 people. They were able to accommodate us no problem. Waiter named ,Zach, seemed nice at first. Younger kid. He had brought all the waters, taken orders, etc. Then when he came back to drop off plates he knocked over an entire glass of water straight into my wife lap on her new dress. Not just a little, but an entire glass! He said oh I'm sorry did I get you? Some actually soaked the side of my shorts. She wasn't even mad but more shocked. I mean it is just water. Thank god not worse. He got some paper towels and put them on the table and said sorry. She obviously had to get up and go to the bathroom and dry best she could. While she was in there he got some towels and cleaned up water. Shortly after she got back they brought out food. He didn't mention anything about it again. A follow up are you okay. Nothing. So we continued to eat and being from a background in the restaurant industry and like most of us have had unfortunate accidents happen, we move on. But the thing that really made me upset were a few things. First in this situation he should tell his manager and they should come over and check on her and the situation. Is she ok, is her dress ruined? Typical managerial responsibilities. Then they make amends for their mistake. Offer to comp her meal, a free dessert, drinks..something. This is an obvious in this industry. Customer service especially when they dump an entire drink in a woman's lap. But nothing was ever brought up again. He had dropped off the split checks with an already included 18% tip. Never came back til we went up to pay check. Still no apology for it, just ready to pay? As my wife walked out still wet, the other two girls at register said have a nice day. Like none of this ever happened. I don't care about getting food for free. Not the point here at all. But I asked him if there was something they could do for us? He said, for what? I said for what? For dumping a whole drink on my wife. His next response was what pissed me off. He said , "it was an accident and I cleaned it up!" I kept my calm the entire time which actually shocks myself. But I said my wife's still standing out there soaked. No apology, again, and sell what do you want me to do? Change my tip from 18% to 15%? Looking at his, and the 2 girls standing quietly, I was dumbfounded for a response. These people are inconsiderate assholes. Or plain stupid. All I said was no. You don't understand, forget about it. He said ok we'll sign here for my $300 bill. Being on vacation must've made me calmer. Normally i might pull a Karen and ask for the manager. Not for anything free or bill lowered but because this is unacceptable service. Maybe he told the manager and they didn't give a shit either, but this is not how restaurants are run. A reply of well it was just an accident is ridiculous! Not to mention these crab boils aren't very good. Been to plenty and these are very stingy and smaller portions. Snow crab tiny, one half piece of corn and one potato. Usually you get double that, sausage. Instead it's another $10 for sausage. Love Hawai'i but this is the last time I'd go here and never recommend it. I don't normally do reviews unless extremely happy or extremely upset/disappointed. Obviously very disappointed! Food, overpriced and not that good for being on an island. I've had seafood boils at Kickin' Kajun, Boiling Crab, and homemade, but I have to say it's all about the combination. Shared a rockstar boil with a friend, which came with 2 lobster tails, 3 snow crab clusters, a pound of shrimp, crawfish, corn & tatoes (broccoli came with the boil too, but we asked for that on the side). Also added sausage, which was a good call. We chose garlic butter as the sauce with medium spice. Buggah was 'ono and could have fed three people easily! I like that they provide gloves so your hands don't get too saucy. My favorite was the crawfish, it's always so fun to eat! We asked for the manager to come to our table, the manager declined the server's request and never came to our table. 1) not letting guests know it's "last call", 2) letting your server take all the guff and frustration for management's decision 3) the manager not visiting the guests table once requested 4) thinking it's just 1 table who cares? That kind of management will lose customers 1 table at a time because EVERY TABLE MATTERS. Not only all of this but when I emailed the company they didn't even care to respond. So disappointing.
