This building is huge! Getting in and out with the huge crowds outside was difficult. More than we had planned it to be. The employees in the building were all so nice and friendly when it came to directions. The building is not set up in an easy to navigate way, at least for me. There are stairs in every direction and then it connects to the subway, which is nice and easiest to find. They have quite a few places to eat and or snack, pricey than outside this area. Bathrooms, I wish they had more. They are also far from the center of the building. We went up to top of the rock and it was so beautiful in the evening. Hard to see some things, day time would've been cooler to be able to distinguish more buildings. Either way it was cool. read more

If you're looking for a view of the city, you can't go wrong with Top of the Rock, especially with the newly installed Skylift. Rockefeller Center has history, and you'll learn about it before you catch one of the best 360 degree views of New York City. If you're trying to decide between Skylift and The Beam, I'd go with Skylift if you're wearing pants (because the floor is clear). For The Beam, you can only buy the picture that they take of you. For Skylift, you're free to take pictures on your own or buy the pictures that are taken by the 360 cameras on Skylift. Skylift doesn't spin fast, so you won't get dizzy, and kids can go on it as long as they can stand on their own (so pretty much kids 1+ years old can do it). read more

The handicapped accessibility at Rockefeller Center is an afterthought. Actually, it's not a thought at all. There are stairs everywhere! The elevator is hidden (no signage for it) and appears to be for geared for staff (signs read that staff IDs must be worn at all times, dozens of photos of people who aren't allowed in the building). Even the doors are revolving doors with no sign of accessible doors. read more

While visiting New York we had to check out Rockefeller Center. We always see it on TV when we watch the Today show and of course the annual Christmas tree lighting so it was really great to see it in person. It's been awhile since I've been back here. So much has changed. More restaurants have been added. No real sitting area to just sit back and relax to watch the skaters & snow falling as I kept warm indoors sipping my coffee like I used to. Then again maybe because it was SNL50 weekend and they covered up the area where I used to just hang out. Didn't stay long enough to determine if I like the change or if it's too much in one spot in a city where there's already a lot in every corner. Nothing more signifies midtown Manhattan to me more than Rockefeller Center. Its beautiful architecture beckon me back to the 1930s and 40s. It's always a great place to see the Christmas tree and one of the reasons I come to New York City. We had the opportunity to dine in a good restaurant in the belly of Rock Ctr last week. Here we are in New York for the St Patrick's day parade......so the tour group decided we would go to Rockefeller Center to the observatory at the top. Normally a great idea except weather ...... the clouds were thick so no view for us. Money wasted unfortunately. No one can predict the weather but then one of the elevators went down and it took forever to get back down and the staff was not super helpful. Can we get a rain check ? This is one my favorite places to visit during the holiday season when I am in New York City. I love seeing all of the Christmas lights on display and of course the big Christmas Tree. They say there is nothing like Christmas in New York and this is a great place to enjoy it. Rockefeller Center is home to 19 commercial and entertainment buildings within a 22 acre space. It is most famous for being home to NBC Studios, the ice skating rink, the Radio City Rockettes and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The annual lighting of the Christmas Tree is one of the most popular events in Manhattan during the holiday season. 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the "XYZ Buildings", International Building and Radio City Music Hall are some of the iconic buildings within Rockefeller Center. The Center was named after and financed by the Rockefeller family. 30 Rockefeller Plaza is a 66-story, 850 foot-tall Art Deco style building that is home to NBC Studios is at the center of Rockefeller Center. Shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" film here. If you want to attend a live NBC taping, you can get tickets on their website. You can also get Top of the Rock tickets or book a guided tour. There are a lot of food options here at Rockefeller Center from fine dining to fast casual restaurants. Even though I am a big foodie and have visited here many times, I haven't had the opportunity to explore the food scene a whole lot. I've been waiting to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center since I was a kid, and it was 100% worth the wait! Ever since seeing Home Alone 2 I think we've all wanted to see this tree in person. It's such an epic thing to see in person, the tree is massive and so beautiful! There were so many people. It's not a long wait, everyone is pretty respectful about moving out of your pic or helping you take it. We walked through the crowd and got a pic right in front of the tree. To be honest there's a really good shot a few yards away from the front of the tree that makes for an epic pic. This place feels like Christmas. ICE SKATING (reviews might vary based on time of year) My beloved and I took an opportunity to head up to Rock when there was a bit of nice weather. Partly cloudy, 55 degrees. Perfect for a light jacket and pants! And perfect for Ice Skating! Sure, there are a lot of things you can do or perhaps buy or see at Rockefeller Center - after all, it's not just a singular business ... but the ice rick is iconic and the Christmas tree is as well, so we had a great time skating and making memories during this recent holidays. You have to purchase tickets in advance via the website, and are then given digital tickets to scan. You select your day and time (prices vary based on time), and other options like professional photos with the tree etc. Once you're done making your selections (I don't need to tell yall how to online shop - if you're on Yelp you can figure it out lol), purchase and it's booked. Sure up about 30 minutes prior to make sure you can get through the crowds. There's a ton of people NOT there for skating, but instead just to look at the rink, the tree, and the skaters and take selfies... you'll have to plow through these crowds to get down to the rink. Bring your own skates, if you have them. If not? Add skates rental to your cart when purchasing tickets. They are nothing fancy. No laces even. Just two buckles and loosely fitting - heavily used. But that's fine, you're just going to put around the rink anyways and do your best to stay in the middle because everyone is literally parked in front of the tree. So if you're not good at skating or more importantly, stopping/turning, just stay away from the tree. Which means you get about half the rink. Again, this ain't hockey tryouts and Nancy Kerrigan ain't out there hosting auditions, so just putt around and enjoy the moment / memory! I sure did! Don't skip this NYC icon. You should really put it on your itinerary. It doesn't take long to see and you can get there easily from anywhere in the city. There is a tour available, but t's an expensive tour. There is a ton of information available online and on YouTube about Rockefeller Center. You can visit RC, the ice rink, see Prometheus, and the spot where the tree goes up for free. You can even have a bite to eat. Absolutely a place you need to go on your NYC trip. read more

This was not my first time to Rockefeller Center, but it was the first time during the holiday season. We travel for our birthdays vs. giving gifts. Mine just happens to be Dec 22nd, and seeing the city all sparkly and magical was what I wanted this year. Naturally, first thoughts went straight to Rockefeller Center. Not one to super plan out all the details, I did scroll through lots of different NYC insta pages and got some great tips for visiting and still missed a ton that I am now seeing on my feed after I am home. Best tip, get your ass up super early to enjoy these wonderful spots, views, and photo ops. It will still be dark and the tree is lit up just the same at 6:30am as it is at 8:30pm but without the insane amounts of people that you have to be a NFL running back to get through! We accidently found ourselves in the area at night while trying to get to our dinner spot, and it just wasn't worth it. The insanity of so many people trying to see decorations and lights all at the same time, pushing strangers around at night, literally sucked out my holiday cheer and diverted all the magic from the area. There is nothing fun about being pushed and shoved. So don't! At 6:30 a.m., I still found myself alongside a fair amount of people, but it was different. People willing to be up and out at that hour are there because they want to enjoy everything this is meant to be about. I saw families dressed up, full hair and makeup done, ready to get their pictures professionally taken with the tree and all the other amazing decorations around the area. You could watch and see others' excitement and love during these family or romantic moments. My alone time in the city at these early hours continues to make me smile now. Christmas in NYC is magical, and memories one gets to cherish forever... even if you didn't get all the photos you wanted. Not everything needs to be on insta but it has provided me with plenty of must see ideas for my next NYC trip. read more

Rockefeller Center, iconic place to be around during Christmas time but also just as much as an attraction on the opposite end of the year, Summer. I admit I didn't really come around for the place alone but an exhibit sponsored by Barcade is being hosted at one of the spots there, R-Cade so it should really be a review about them, but since it's a temporary pop up shop, they don't have a Yelp page but Rockefeller Center being the gracious hosts they are, I'll give them a thumbs up for giving them a space to advertise their brand. The place is a lot larger than I thought it to be, I thought it was gonna be a small corner section of the place but it was the entire place where skating shoes would be rented during the colder weather. A lot of arcades of Yesteryear, reaching out to a younger version of myself spending time on these same games. Even though we're spoiled in options when it comes to arcade games, it's the experience of being at these machines which brings out a nostalgic feeling. It's also great to come around these during lunch break on a weekday because Barcade opens at 4 PM around the weekdays and sometimes I don't feel like waiting that long to hit up the arcades. Super long story short, I found my reason to come here a few times a week during the Summer. read more

An absolute bucket list experience. We were main characters in our own Christmas special. We reserved over a week in advance to ice skate under the Christmas tree and lights. Tickets are expensive, non refundable, the skates are uncomfortable, but it's all worth it. Happy to have experienced this with my daughters. Right after, we went to the top of the Rock for the most incredible view of the NYC skylight with all the city lights. 10/10 would do it again and recommend. read more

You know I didn't have too high of expectations going into this phony show, but you should've seen this stupid stuff. To be fair I wasn't really in the right mood and I came in when the goddam stage show was on. The Rockettes were kicking their heads off, the way they do when they're all in line with their arms around each other's waist. They were in those goddamn perfect lines with those huge smiles plastered on their faces. I'll admit, it's pretty impressive, getting that many people to move exactly the same way without somebody falling over takes some skill. Still, after a while it starts to feel kind of lousy, they look like they're more like machines than actual people. Everybody around me loved it though. This lady next to me kept calling everything "magical," that killed me. If you wanna know the truth, I'm not saying it was awful or anything. If you like big, sparkly shows, you'd probably love it. We did the Rockefeller Center walking tour (about 1 hr 15 minutes). Our guide was a little hard to hear because of the static on her microphone, but she was very knowledgeable nonetheless. The tour covered the tree, history, architecture and more surrounding the square. I've been to Rockefeller Center a few times now, and it's always grand, no matter the season. I've visited during Christmastime, as well as most recently this summer with friends. Rockefeller Center is mostly a hub for sightseeing, shopping, and dining--definitely geared toward tourists. While it's fun to explore, I typically find myself leaving after about an hour or so, once I've seen what there is to see. The first time I visited was in 2018 to see the famous Christmas tree, but I found it a bit underwhelming due to the minimal decorations. I'm not sure if that's changed in recent years, but it seems like they stick with a simpler style each year. This summer, I came back with friends to show them around. It was nice to experience the promenade without the ice skating rink, and although it was crowded with tourists, the spacious layout made it easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. Whenever I'm in NYC, I like to swing by to see what's happening. It's definitely a must-do for first-timers in the city, but once you've seen it, you might not need to stay too long. Still, it's a classic NYC spot worth checking out at least once! read more
