Loved this candy store! Walking-in, I felt the fun atmosphere with sweets and fun toys everywhere. The selection was great and there tons of variety from unique sodas to candy from all over the world. What caught my eye were the staff-created blind bags. The staff even illustrated the art on the bags too! I got one for $11.99 and it was worth the value! The bag contained all sorts of candies which I loved to sample. The staff were also super nice and personable. This shop is a must when visiting Downtown Portland. The two employees working when I came in were talking passionately about something and then dead silence when I walked in. I felt bad for interrupting whatever it was. I picked out a few things and checked out. It was so eerie how neither of the guys spoke at all to each other while I was there when I must have interrupted something. Fun little novelty store in downtown. So many things I wanted to try because why not? I ended up getting 3 different sodas. Bacon, Ranch Dressing, and Buffalo Wing. I have only opened the bacon thus far and I can say that it kinda does taste like bacon which is disgusting in soda form lol. I couldn't finish the whole soda so dumped it out. I've been to the Rocket Fizz in Santa Barbara and loved it!! I was super excited walking around in Portland and stumbling on to this gem. My favorite thing about these shops is all the nostalgic items from my childhood that you really just can't find at regular stores. I had so much fun just walking around and looking at things. We got the Lunchables Gummy box which was brilliant. I purchased the Twix Edible Cookie Dough, it was pretty good - worth the try but probably wouldn't buy again. I picked up some cute stickers and pins and then some old school Pac-Man candies. The woman working inside were friendly laughed with me about some of the silly items. My most favorite thing in the store was the Penny Stamp Machine, where you put in two quarters and one penny and then you crank out your penny with a stamp from the store. I collect those so I was super excited that they had them. If you love candy like I do, you should most def stop by here! read more

Rocket Fizz in Portland is a cute and kitschy store that sells candy, various soft drinks, toys, and nostalgic memorabilia. It's located on the corner of 6th and Alder St. in Downtown Portland. First thing- parking. It's a bitch down there! There are a few parking structures around there and street parking is metered and cutthroat- especially with all of the construction going on down there. Now for the good. There are lots of candies from Japan, Britain, and here. There are retro candies like Abba Zabba, rocket pops, a large assortment of salt water taffy, and sodas. You can buy mystery bags for different prices. Each bag comes with art or lyrics from a song. They are heavy though, so that's a really good thing! Three first one had a LOT of salt water taffy, a bag of Big League Chew, some chocolates, a bag of Haribo Gummy Letters, and another package of bubble gum. We still haven't opened the second bag yet, but it's just as heavy as the first. There is a wall of sodas that are for display only, but they sell the same ones behind the register in a refrigerator. So. Let me start off by saying I had been here years ago and was super impressed by the charm, the mystery bags and the wide variety of goodies around the place. Today, I went in and was utterly disappointed. Neither employee greeted me and they actually just sat in the chairs on their phones while I perused the shop. This place used to have a larger candy selection, today it was all just regular items with a higher markup than a convenience store. They do have a large taffy selection and large soda selection - which gets them the two stars. If you are looking for the more unique candies they used to sell tons of, look elsewhere. If you are looking for decent customer service, look elsewhere. If you are looking for literally just taffy or soda, I guess stop here, just domt expect to be talked to by the employees. After I had gone up to the register the man didn't bother to call me up to the register and quite literally spent his time picking up candy for HIMSELF and was scanning them, then this white lady dropped her stuff on the counter and he helped her immediately. as soon as she left so did he, leaving me there. I was on my way to Rite Aid from the Roseland theatre when I stumbled across this cool little store. I had no idea it existed. The decor is basically everything that they sell. Hundreds of bottles of cool soda. From weird bacon flavored and dirt flavored to normal flavors like orange and sasparilla. I was pretty amazed. I didn't have time to really shop around but they also have Taffy for sale as well as other nostalgic candy and other candies you wouldn't be able to get at a regular grocery store. It's pretty magical and colorful in here. They also have tin signs for sale for $15 each. I intend on coming back here when I have more time. Neat lil place. read more

The store is huge and there are endless possibilities to find a candy that brings back a memory from your childhood. Having finally been inducted into the true Portlander ranks after living here for more than a decade, I thought I'd celebrate by checking this place out. I've passed it literally hundreds of times, but avoided going in because of the looming threat of diabetes from all of the sweets I consume on a daily basis. That said, I was really underwhelmed. Most of the candy here can be bought at the dollar store or an Asian market for much less than its marked here. The drinks are marked just as high (don't bother getting Ramune here), but at least some of them are unique to this store. And by "unique", I truly mean it when it comes to the flavors. The blue energy drink, or rocket fuel, was really good. But the cotton candy one reminded me of watered down DayQuil. So yeah, the standard hit or miss with novelty drinks. Organized Chaos. No rhyme or reason, but wonderful sugary goodness and kitch everywhere you look. Rocket Fizz is a child and adult wonderland of bad for your teeth but make your dentist extremely happy sort of a place. That was a mouthful. They have every type of small label soda imaginable, including their own brand. Smores soda, bacon soda, colas of every kind and even sodas like Bawls. Retro candy all over and newer items like a sour patch gecko? Energy candy. Pop Rocks and cool retro signage and even replica concert posters for just over 10 bucks. You do have to like a big Hello when you walk in the door. This place is rather large for a candy shop and there are many, many things to choose from. There were quite a few options for salt water taffy alone. But I was surprised that it was the only candy in bulk that you could get. Everything else was packaged. It is going to be a no for me. It was very underwhelming as far as a what I thought it was going to be. There are a lot of bizarre flavored sodas, it's very colorful in the store, the candy offering are just ok. (Bruce's Candy in Cannon Beach beats this store out of the water as far as cool candy offerings.) The store was empty when we were there with the exception of the two workers behind the counter. I wanted to check out a rocket fizz as I've only heard about them. I was specifically looking for pez and I left disappointed, they had a few here and there scattered around. Princess and hello kitty mainly. Maybe there's no demand for them but they are sure hard to find anywhere in stores. We each got some unique chocolate bars that aren't typically ones you can buy. He was really happy and obviously enjoyed his job and it made me really happy, and I'll definitely be coming back! I freaking LOVE hard candy and lollipops. It's the one vice I can't give up. We just happened to stumble upon this place walking out from our parking garage and were so glad we did! If you're a candy fan like I am, this is the place for you. They have every candy you can think of, but most importantly every candy you've never even heard of or seen before. They import candy and treats from all over the world, which I think is pretty awesome. It gives you an opportunity to try flavors that you've never had the chance to try before, and sometime that's just what I'm in the mood for. The real winner at this place is the novelty soda/pop selection. I have never in my life seen so many varieties, and I wanted to try them all! I'm a big root beer fan, and they must have had about 30 different brands of that alone. You'll also see things like bacon soda, ranch soda, puke soda haha. I went with one of my favorite beer makers spin on pop, Abita king cake soda. (They make a really good root beer as well) I had no idea what to expect, but it was surprisingly delicious. I was in the area with my teenage son and came across this store when looking for somewhere to have lunch. What a fun store! Sodas of every variety... from savory (bacon!) to the most disgusting (barf!) and everything in between. They have a huge selection of candy, both new and old. I purchased a few flavors of Zotz (fizzy candy from my childhood), fruit sodas and the candy cigarettes my son found to be so outrageous he had to have them along with a tin sign that cracked me up. This may just be my favorite store of all time. While walking downtown to Pioneer Square, my SO and I spotted this gem on the corner and had to stop in. This is a candy store made for adults. Most cany shops pack as much candy per square inch as they can to increase margins, but this giant shop felt a bit more like an Apple Store, with sparse table tops filled with unique candies. Rocket Fizz has imported candy from around the world, as well as the standard boring american stuff. I spent a good deal of my childhood in England, so I came in looking for Smarties (think M&M's but not as sweet with Nestle chocolate instead of Mars) and was not disappointed. My wife picked out a few cream sodas from the huge selection of indie soda makers, and we also packed a bag of salt-water taffy with unique flavors such as orange creamsicle and cinnamon roll. When we went to pay, the bill was far less than we expected and the clerk told us we could probably jam about 10 more taffy's into our bag and it would be the same price. I will go back here when back in Portland. read more

Rocket Fizz Soda and Candy Shop must have some of the most enthusiastic and nicest people in any of the stores downtown. The selection of candy and pop is impressive and deep. They even have one of my favorite brands of black licorice (yes, I do love black licorice) that is increasingly difficult to find. The only thing that left me a little cold was all the gee-gaws (toys, signs, and other jokey items). It would be far more fun if they had actual vintage toys on display with fewer, more high-quality reproduction items for sale. The gee-gaws distract from the candy and soda. However, this will not stop me from coming in and buying my black licorice and probably candy for family members they remember from years past. Do stop by. This store has a unique collection of candy and sodas. However, it was my experience that the candy is rotated out of stock improperly and the taffy was stale. I bought a Violet Crumble bar from the UK and the bar was so old, the milk chocolate had turned gray. I live in Seattle and so happy to find my favorite bar...I was shattered that it was inedible. Then, there were the employees. I found them evasive, uneducated about certain products that are on the market, and a bit condescending. I was looking for Brach's butterscotch hard candies and they'd never heard of it. So much for understanding the market and having a wide range of product knowledge. This is candy that's been on the market since 1904. But, I digress. While was in the store, one employee was using Snapchat while the other employee was texting. No one asked if they could help me of thanked me for coming in. I spent over $25.00 and thought that might at the least be worth a hello. But, these employees thought it was more important to speak negatively about a previous customer in front of current customers. How truly unprofessional! The prices are high, which makes it easier for the competitor to gain the consumers business. Sad. I won't be back. There is so much to see and do in Portland that I'm sure I can find a $25.00 hello somewhere else. read more

Then a customer walked in behind me after I had walked past them and they greeted him. Not ever going to come here again. I wouldn't recommend it either. Prices are high.
