This is such a great store for gift wrap supplies. They have a huge selection of really different and unique wrapping paper sheets as well as a lot of rolls to choose from. You can also find a variety of bags , ribbons and bows. I really likes the seasonal items they had. We got really fun stuff for Easter baskets. They have unique cards both individual and packs. Fun paper store! They offer all kinds of stationary, unique gifts, unusual souvenirs, and ideas for crafts. When I went it was fall, and they had special Halloween paper crafts out. This would be a fun place to bring kids and have them pick items out to be creative. I bought band aids that had ramen noodle characters. It was funny. The associates were not that friendly. Paper Source is definitely a very cute store with a lot to offer inside, but I feel like the massive crowds it attracts are unwarranted. Just walking along 23rd there are several knickknack stores that sell the same things that Paper Source does- and for half the price! Seriously, I found a stress ball in there for $17 when I had just seen it at a different store 20 minutes before for $8. There are definitely cute things, don't get me wrong, but the prices are crazy high and the employees are unhelpful and uninterested. I would look elsewhere honestly. read more

Easy to get distracted turning this way and that to look at something. It also feels like a museum. The gal at the counter was friendly, energetic. I browsed and browsed and in the end found a day planner that was drastically discounted, up stairs they had these bins of calendars marked down. I sought a calendar from the current year - I found one! I never would have paid the full price (29.95) yikes, but $8 seemed fine, would liked to have paid less, but it is good quality. Anyway, one thing I felt was missing, was a nice selection of plain-ish greeting cards. They had plenty of themed - cards with very specific greetings inside, but not many "blank" ones. Could've really gone for a few artistic cards to send that had no "happy birthday" "congrats on the new home", etc. Otherwise, nice variety of goods, some kitschy-gifty stuff. I'm not a paper expert, but you don't have to be to love this store! I've always wondered why it is always so jam packed every time I walk by. There is much much more then just paper products to buy!! They have some really cute novelty gift type items. Such as, elaborate coloring books, unique calendars, the worlds smallest remote control helicopter, bicycle pizza cutter, seasonal decorations and much much more! In addition to buying everything I needed to make paper star Christmas ornaments, and the rest of the supply's on my DIY Christmas tree decoration shopping list. I was also able to find 3 very unique ornaments for our tree! We are starting a new tradition, of finding one unique Christmas tree ornament each year. This year is especially special since it will be our first Christmas having our 1 year old son Porter! So needless to say, I've been hunting for the perfect ornaments to start our new tradition! I was able to find large letter cut outs that I ended up decorating and putting on our tree as well. I found each first letter of our names, and it turned our really cute. I got a ball of twine for the stars to hang from on the tree. We found some really pretty, tiny little red, sparkling bows that came with sticky backs, that I stuck on the tips of branches. Upstairs I found different colors of paper for my stars. Creamy white shimmering paper, bright white shimmering paper and mat candy apple red. Sold in packs of 20 or so. I also found silver sparkling paper, gold and silver sparklingly paper downstairs, all sold in packs of 2. I could have spent a lot more then I did, but was surprised when the cashier told me my total had added up to 80$ and some change! I am really new at DIY type projects, and I'm sure you could probably get similar type products at other craft or paper stores butttttttt...... The quality of all of the items I purchased was really good. The customer service was great, which is priceless! I will be posting some pictures so you can see. read more

I could stay in this place for hours! They have fun novelty gifts, paper, envelopes, planners, etc. Everyone that works here is ridiculously nice! Today we went to get envelopes for our wedding save the dates. We decided it might be fun to do some embossing on the envelopes and asked for a suggestion of which ink pad to get. The girl working not only told us which pad to get but let us do a demo! She was super nice and helpful. I often find small gifts here. While its a big company a lot of their stuff at least feels unique. When I do find a small gift I can buy the paper to wrap it in here also. This is the mecca. One walk past this place on 23rd, makes me want to press my face against the window, exhale, and draw little hearts all over the glass to show my support!....but I don't do that. That would be creepy. Instead, I happily get lost in the sea of colors inside. Beautiful and creatively designed papers. Finger puppets and joke mint tins. Shower sponges shaped like microphones. Sushi magnets and tin lunchboxes. Cards and Valentines. Ribbons and Stamps. Oh my god, the stamps. LOTS of stamps. (and i'm not a crazy stamp collector either, but all the cool ones they have, makes me want to start) I always feel like a kid in a candy store in this place. Seriously. I halfway expect Willy Wonka to appear from behind the stationary, give me an everlasting gobstopper, and show me his favorite lickable wallpapers. But that doesn't usually happen. Saying I'm obsessed with this store is the understatement of the year. If they'd let me work for Yelp, and here on the weekends for an employee discount (granted that would require some serious red eye flights from MSY to PDX), I'd do it. It's actually a chain but the store is just super cute in the Alphabet District of Portland. The reviews/love letters that a handful of other girls have written are pretty spot on. It's a great store with a cornucopia of great gift ideas, some cute kid items, stationary, a bit of crafting, and organization supplies that are cute and unique to this store. If you got giddy over school supplies growing up, this is your jam. I don't know why I passed on the fart book...If you know me, you know that while I have been offended by a handful of sneaky dog farts and am not a fan of farts in the car; beyond that, I think they're hilarious. They had a book of fart noises, and of course I pressed the buttons to hear the flatulence that would be emitted from said book. Let's jus say it was the tiniest bit hard to explain to a girl not standing far from me. I'm also mad I passed on the breathalyzer keychain... I do however scoop up a calendar and a planner nearly every time I go. Once upon a time, not so long ago...I used to frequent the Paper Source website, longingly looking at their paper and stamps...wishing that we had one in our lovely city so I could actually see in person the items I was thinking about ordering. Just to touch and feel the paper weight, mix and match colors, see the entire stamp selection. I even contemplated taking a road trip up to Seattle just to visit the nearest one. Yes, I am that obsessed with paper. Sad, isn't it? Now that Portland has its very own location, I couldn't be happier. I could literally spend hours on end in here. From blank cards to stamps to little gifts and letterpressed calendars to all my embossing needs, Paper Source delivers so beautifully. My favorite part about the store are the examples that they set out, every time I am there I'm inspired with new projects and ideas. And I wish I could just take their window displays home with me. Their employees are very friendly and always ready to help. The upstairs is a paper junkie's heaven. The blank cards and envelopes in all different sizes, creamy in texture and in a rainbow of colors..*sigh* Prices are a bit high if you compare it to, say Michael's craftstore...but you pay for the quality and variety. This is a great shop for anyone out there that loves all things paper. They have friendly sales people, they run demonstrations on products all the time (for free) and have classes you can sign up for to learn a new paper craft. I meant to walk here, grab some witty Christmas cards that might obviate the need for a lengthy personalized note inside, and get out. 45 minutes later I emerged, blinking, in the bright fog, with a bag full of stickers and fancy paper, cards, markers, tiny clothespins, and crafty plans for kitschy holiday cookie packages. Neat store, neat gifts. I found the basics that I was looking fore (simple gift bag and wrapping paper). But my oh my was everything overprice! I am sure there are fine items worthy of that price, but I couldn't find a simple bow for under $2.50? They had these cute stretchy hair bands and the cash wrap. I'm not the craftiest of people, but the Paper Source staff are extremely helpful. My bride friend and I went inside because part of the wedding decor included those circular fan flowers. Paper Source had circular fan flowers on display much earlier this year, so a week before the wedding, since we were in the area, I wanted to see if they still had any hanging in the store because we needed some ideas of how to hang the flowers. After a few minutes of walking in and not finding the hanging flowers (instead, they were mounted against the wall), we were quickly assisted by March. She was so friendly and enthusiastic to help us with how we should hang the flowers. She showed us "super tape" which is probably the best double-sided tape I've ever seen since it's so easy to apply, and just like the name suggests, it's super sticky. We ended up buying 2 rolls. The only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the items in the store can be pricey. I'm pretty sure I can find the same thing or other similar things at another store for a lower price. However, there are some really unique things in the store that I can see why they are priced so high. In a way, we're also paying for the attentive service from the salespeople. It's not very likely that I'll come back since I'm not crafty and I'm not from the area, but this store has left me with a positive memory of the help and advice their salespeople can give us. read more

I was worried that this store would be very expensive, but it didn't seem too different from other stores. I especially loved their greeting cards. In fact I could probably start a knock off Paper Source in my Nopo home based on the random cards and kitchsy fun I have purchased there. Seriously though, if you want to design or find a high quality and unique card (of any type! birthday, confirmation, baptism, marriage, graduation, business...), stationary, wrapping paper, stamps, come to Paper Source. You may spend the next three hours of your life pouring through the various shades of paper, but you will be feeling craft zen by the time you leave. PS. I credit this location of Paper Source for helping me do the proper grown up thing and keep in touch with loved ones far away. I've grown up with the luxury of facebook and the internet, so I know it's easy to forget to write your friends. But the few times I have received a letter in the mail, I have felt excited and loved. I always keep a box of empty cards and postcards (usually bought here, because their designs are so personal and friendly to look at). Whenever I think of someone I haven't spoken to in a while I'll pick one out and write them. Yes the cards here are pricey, but I don't send a card every day, and when I do I want them to be memorable. If you are a big letter/card writer, and the price deters you, they sell card making materials here so you can stop wasting your time and money and just make your own cute cards all at home. I've been tempted more than once to to buy their embosser. It's only $20, but then you have to invest in some stamps, and those are $3 - $10 a piece, depending on size. And the embossing stamp and glitters in various colors. So it's more money up front, but it looks like if you started collecting stamps, over time, you'd be able to make a lot of really gorgeous cards, especially if you've got a steady hand and love to draw or do calligraphy. The last reason I love this place is their household goods. I love their cup designs and calendars, and have even bought a five-year diary here (which I am in my third year of using daily). I also love that they use their stationary designs on iPhone covers, which totally makes me wish I could switch out my cover with the seasons or different outfits. They are so ridiculously cute! I ended up buying a geometric rainbow design and I get compliments on it everywhere. I almost ended up with a macaroon print, so good for me! Anyway, I always stop here on my way to the Lush store and to pick up a magazine at Rich's. Do it all at once - get a bathbomb, some light reading, and some stationary to write a loved one a letter. Its nice to see a Paper Source in Portland. While it's a bit smaller, it still has all the basics you need to get crafty. Plus, PS has a great website in case you need to order something. Wander in here and get carried away with all things correspondence related. The paper and card collections are gorgeous. Plus you will probably be able to find some one you know an adorable gift. I routinely stop in for beautiful notecards and stationary. My last trip resulted in several fun items, including a ceramic travel coffee mug, a coloring book for my little sister that I may just keep myself, and supplies for an embossing project. So much paper! So many different colors and sizes of envelopes! I went here looking for party invitations and got completely sucked in by the endless displays of stationery, fancy paper, stamps, ribbons, bows, kitschy little gifts, &c &c. The staff were very friendly and offered to help me find things, without being too pushy. The store was packed with holiday shoppers and displays, and it was a bit tight to move around, but I didn't have trouble finding what I wanted and I didn't wait in any long lines. If you aren't going specifically for Christmas stuff, November and December are maybe not a good time. I'd leave lots of time to gawk at all the shiny stuff.
