Bozeman does it right again! We went to the Rockford spot near the architecture firm. Right from the start, the barista was really friendly and we chatted a bit. The double espresso I ordered had a crema on it as well as a rich and bitter flavor needing no added milk. Big open door like a garage was inviting and allowed for an open air feel in the small space. If I had more time, I would have felt good hanging out here. read more

I am a bit of a coffee snob having been a barista for four years and I have to say the best latte I ever had came from Rockford. They do use whole milk as the default which automatically means the beverage was going to be creamy but I think it was truly phenomenal. read more

To the Owner -- I'm not even going to comment on the drinks and pastry. Your Barista guaranteed we'd never return. After handing me 1 of 2 drinks she sarcastically winked at me and said "thanks for the donation, I really appreciate it". I'm guessing she was referring to the fact I didn't leave a tip? I didn't realize that was required. Tips are earned and at the discretion of the customer aren't they?Completely inappropriate and rude. I think it may be time for some re-training. Suprisingly good espresso in small milk drinks. They roast their own beans twice a week (moving up to 3x soon due to the new store). An 8oz cappucino is well balanced, with acceptable microfoam that's just a little too stiff. Latte art on the lattes. The espresso shots are well pulled with very little bitterness - more in the italian style than most American espresso. I would give this place five stars with some very minor improvements. I'll happily drink their coffee anytime I'm in Bozeman, and I bought a bag of beans to take home. This location has a lot of indoor space and some nice big tables. The new location, a few blocks easy on Main, has a nice outdoor patio with good people-watching. read more

Stopped in on our way out of town. They have a cute setup with good lattes and decent pastries. Their private parking lot is on the small side, but there's ample street parking. It's clearly a local hot spot. read more

I think this is by far the best coffee in Bozeman: Some direct trade relationships with growers, and other than that sourcing from some of the best "middle man" companies. I was directed by a friend who knew I was a coffee nerd to come talk to the roaster, Nathan, and was glad I did: got to drop a batch of beans into the roaster and see the 2010 Ethiopian/Sumatran blend go from green to a toasty thing of beauty. Terrible service, burnt coffee and unappreciative employees. I ordered a 16 oz and the barista gave me a 12 oz. I pointed this out to her by putting the two cups side by side but she denied that was the 12 oz still.... Yea still. I then said whatever, screw it I'll drink 12 oz. I was on a quest to find the perfect cinnamon roll this past weekend in Bozeman. I found the perfectly iced cinnamon roll at Rockford. The icing was cream cheese - the best ooey gooey kind. And to top it off, it was garnished with fresh blueberries. I thought it was too beautiful to be real at first. The coffee was excellent too. Not bitter at all. Definitely the best espresso in town. I would think of this as the more plain jane type of coffee shop. Don't expect a menu of 4 million drinks with all of their fanciness. Hands down the best coffee but hands down the worst service in history. Waited 15 mins for coffee and was second in line. The three people who ordered after me got there coffee first. Was standing there making eye contact with the baristas until I finally had to ask them to make my drink again. Then they made it in the wrong size and that's when I left and was late to work. Unfortunately, my first experience at Rockford coffee was rather unpleasant. Although my cafe mocha was good, I was not pleased with the barista's lack of attention to customer care. I stood waiting for someone to take my order even though the entire place was empty. Additionally, I was meeting up with a friend and we were asked to leave or take our beverages outside since she brought her service dog. Had this been wintertime I would have been enraged. Usually I have no problem adhering to establishment regulations but I found this to be quite unsettling even after my friend explained to the barista that her dog was a service animal.
