Great visit to a highly recommended farm to table spot. Pay close attention to the address to make sure you don't miss it. It is a small restaurant and reservations on a Monday are still needed. The starters with the star of the day even though the entrees were still good. We started with the tomato salad and beans and peppers. The tomato salad was phenomenal. Perfect sweet and acid balance with the homemade vinaigrette. All the items were either from their garden or local ones. The beans and peppers had a perfect char and the aioli was super tasty. I had the mushroom gnocchi w/ sausage. Super tasty and fresh. Only feedback is that it was a little rich. I had the olive oil lemon cake for dessert. The flavors were good with the right amount of lemon that did not overpower the cake. The main issue was that is was overcooked and really dry. Overall good meal and super nice service. There are definitely some other entrees I would like to try. read more

I was super excited to come into Little Star Diner because I read a lot of raving good reviews. Walking here in the dark (there weren't many streetlights and there was construction that blocked the path from Main St) was quite interesting but it was pretty worth it in the end. This is another restaurant that would do well with a cocktail menu but they do have a good natural wine selection. We didn't partake but it looked pretty diverse and well selected. They provide a carafe of water on the table, which was good given the service. Service was a bit spotty and kind of slow. We didn't see our server much and the food was pretty slow to come out. However, they were extremely busy, so I can forgive it a bit. The menu was interesting and the food was pretty good when we got it. I will say there were hits and misses though. The hummus and sourdough pita was excellent. Fried delicata squash was so good, I made a roasted version for Thanksgiving. My husbands burger was excellent but the house made ketchup was borderline disgusting. It was cold, unflavored tomato sauce. Not so good. I got steak with pasta and my pasta was severely undercooked. I would have said something but our server was pretty unavailable. We didn't want to stay for dessert and I'm glad we didn't because the check took forever to get to us. read more

Came here for a nice "family" dinner for the first night we were in town, and with some reservations they were able to handle our group of 14 just fine. Wait staff was very informative and helpful, and let us know that much of what they make is locally sourced which I always find to be a nice little added touch. That being said, that means the menu often rotates, so hopefully you get lucky and get the same great meals we did! Decor is very modern, we sat on the rooftop which was delightful on a coolish evening, but there are also inside options. To start with drinks, we split a bottle of High Plains Drifter, a sparkling apple cider which was delightful and nearly was reminiscent of a light white wine. Then for appetizers we had the grilled sourdough and fried carrots with broccolini, and let me say, those were some of the best veggies I've ever tried. For mains I had the potato gnocchi and I tried the spicy noodle salad. The gnocchi is a bit rich but delicious and the spicy noodle salad lives up to its name and got a few of my friends a little choked up, but that isn't too say it wasn't very fresh and flavorful. I also tried the anise ice cream, which as I might have expected, wasn't for me, but that's personal taste, I don't like licorice, but I can tell the quality is there if you are one who likes to partake. read more

On our final night in Bozeman, we enjoyed a farewell dinner at Little Star Diner that was -- hands down -- the best meal we had during our two weeks in town. Following the recommendations of our server, we started with two generous slices of sourdough topped with fresh tomatoes - a celebration of summer. We also enjoyed the fried broccolini, which was reminiscent of a sweet & savory brussels sprouts preparation. For the entree, we had the kebab paired with the bright flavors and textures of farro, harissa tahini, and cucumber. And for dessert? A decadent hazelnut cake topped with chocolate coconut pudding. You wouldn't know that it was dairy and gluten free given the richness of each bite. Service was friendly, but never overbearing. The menu was interesting without being try-hard. It was strange when they didn't ask how we wanted the rack of lamb or burger cooked. It was disappointing when both arrived well done. The plating is busy and some of it works, but perhaps they should reduce the components by half and focus. Every couple of years we duck back in here with fingers crossed. Lots of local ingredients and local owners staying in the game, which is great, but the quality of the dishes has not elevated in conjunction with the prices. read more

When we saw that this place was called "diner," we expected a much different vibe. We were very pleasantly surprised. My sister and I made a reservation for a Thursday PM and this place was pretty packed upon entering, so I am glad we did. We ordered the Sourdough Pita Mezze Plate as a starter to share. Each item was well curated. The little orange tomatoes were so perfectly sweet. The pita bread and the hummus with chili oil was divine. For a main course, we ordered 2 dishes to share between the two of us -- the organic double cheeseburger and the gnocchi + matsutake mushrooms. The burger was simple, but very nicely done. The gnocchi was so pillowy and melted in our mouths. The matsutake mushrooms were also delicious and have a meat-like texture. I wanted a glass of wine, but the price at $14/$15 per glass felt a little steep. I ended up getting a beer instead. Overall great experience! read more

We had falafel, gnocchi, lamb dish; we also had a tomato salad that - after the server sold it as having delicious tomatoes - did not seem to feature tomatoes at all, having only a few sliced cherry tomatoes and being dominated by lbutter lettuce, blue cheese, and dressing (and was firmly a "side salad" size, meaning small). Ambiance was pleasant - we sat on the upper patio around 6-8 pm on a summer evening. I liked the furnishings and plantings. Service Disaster The food was good but the service was a disaster. There were four of us on a Friday night. One ordered a salad as an entrée, and it came out as a starter. Two entrees were served 15 to 20 minutes later. The fourth entrée came out after another 15 to 20 minutes. What are you supposed to do? The salad and second two entrees were consumed before the last entrée was served. Watching all the other tables, it looked like our experience was not unique. The absolute best thing in Bozeman, and one of the most memorable meals we have had while traveling. We were skeptical that a place that calls itself a "diner" with wildly ranging dishes on the menu like banh mi (always a red flag for me, as a Viet), kebabs, tacos, and house-made pastas, could succeed. But boy did they. I typically don't like trout, and the flathead trout tacos bowled both of us over. I still think of those tacos sometimes. The menu has since changed, but we ordered an Asian sauteed greens dish to share for some veg, and it exceeded my expectations. Their kamut noodles are obviously their specialty, so we got tagliatelle that was the perfectly consistency and exploding with flavor. First, I will say, the ambience was excellent. This is a small, intimate space with low lighting and great interior design. Their restaurant concept is also really admirable- they are family owned and very dedicated to serving farm-to-table meals paired with natural wines and local beers. We had great service and all of the waitstaff were very nice and accommodating. Our wine and beer selections were phenomenal too- so much so, that I took note of the wines I tried for later knowledge. All this to say, unfortunately, the food was average at best. We started with an appetizer tomato salad- $20 for a small plate of arugula, bleu cheese, and cherry tomatoes. Granted, the greens tasted very fresh, but it seemed very steep for what you actually got. My main entree was the gnocchi. This was highly rated in other reviews, but I didn't have the same 5 star experience. It came out cold, with very few vegetables on top (maybe a few zucchini slices and 1 mushroom) though the menu described it as being covered with several different vegetables? It was also described as "brown butter sage" but I didn't taste these notes at all. Other entrees we ordered included the burger (fine, but not great) and the pork belly (OK, but it was described as being on top of noodles and we received it on top of rice.) Overall, we left little star feeling really disappointed, as we had read such great reviews!! However, this place gets 3 stars for their exceptional staff, ambience, and wine/beer selections. I'm hoping the quality of their food continues to improve to justify their expensive prices, as I love their restaurant concept and am more than happy to pay for a quality farm to table experience in the future. read more

This was one of the BEST fine dining experiences in Bozeman I have ever had. We had a rooftop seating on a beautiful day. Staff was super friendly! Wine selections were phenomenal. Okay, adorable! Stumbled upon this place the other night and so glad I did. I regrettably was one of those customers who didn't realize it was near closing time. Montana summers will do that to ya. After I sat down and realized the time I told the waitress I was so sorry and that we will leave. She insisted it was fine and they were still open!
