Can't believe I missed reviewing Rocklands after all our previous visits. This was our third visit to the winery. We were first invited by a friend, who was a wine club member often boasting about the great ambiance and wine. Our visit lived up to her hype. The winery was gorgeous-with lots of amply seating between picnic tables throughout the grounds, indoor seating in various barns, or outdoor patio spots. It was easy to settle in and spread out. The price for a glass of wine were a bit high, ranging from $8-12 & they don't offer tastings-just mini flights at $17-18-so we opted to just buy bottles (the staff were kind enough to let us try sips before committing to a bottle (granted it was something from the open bottles from the wine flight list). They offer a variety of dry whites, dry reds, rose', and sweet wines- so it was easy for everyone in our party to find a wine for their preference. We ended up running through several wines from their list across our various visits- I think their whites are stronger in flavor profiles than their reds. Their base reds were a bit too light; if we wanted a higher quality red wine we had to look towards the higher end, more expensive products, so we stuck with the varietals of white wine which were more table friendly and affordable. They have two food trucks on site, we didn't try them out since we brought our own spread, but I did learn due to the high number of visitors they ran out of food each time we have been there. Also to note: not dog friendly & lots of loose wild life (like a chicken literally jumped up on our table to steal French Fries). Overall, a great spot to go with friends, since there is great ambiance, lots of seating, and lots of choices. read more

Little did I know...I would be walking in the footsteps of the Real Housewives of Potomac. Hahaha. This farm is beautiful with the friendliest staff anyone could ask for. I appreciate their food vendors as well. The first time I went, I had the cipolla rosa pizza. It was soooooo good. I was almost tempted to buy another one to take home. So my favorite wine to have here is the Honey Blossom. I dont know if it's in my mind....but im feeling so good after 2 glasses. Lol. My second time here, I got a bottle to go. Oh don't hesitate to visit while the sunflowers are in bloom. Beautiful! Came here during COVID 19 and there are plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy the scenery while practicing social distancing. They have tables and grassy areas for a picnic. I will def be back! Love this place. read more

Cute little getaway. - Farmhouse chic next to the vines - Perfect for a picnic! You can bring your own food and there are tons of tables over a very wide area. There is a little market inside where you can order your glasses, buy bottles, or a flight, with a selection of goods inside (cheeses, meats, crackers, ice cream, etc). They also seem to have two food trucks, one with pizza and one with burgers. - The wines are quite lovely. Bright, crisp, and very fruit forward. When you purchase a flight, they pour all of the wines into the glasses for you to bring to your table. So it's not the type of tasting experience where you sit and they pour each wine for you in rounds. - We got there at noon, right when it opens, and within 30 minutes the place was getting filled up! I didn't realize how family friendly it was, because there were SUVs of families with small children coming in one after another. It was also a weekend. - The only restrooms are the fancy port-a-potties...which definitely look and seem much cleaner than normal ones, but smelled really bad... read more

Determined to enjoy our lives this past weekend, we sent out for an adventure at a local Maryland Winery, Rocklands Farm Winery in Poolesville.* . On the menu for the day, was a delicious and savory Spanish Paella, which paired nicely with the cider we were drinking, Partnership. * . Partnership is a delicious Rosé Cider, described as having a "wonderful stone fruit floral notes with a zing of crab apple. On the palate the blackberry and raspberry notes show through. The off-dry finish is accompanied by effervescence, which is a welcome addition to this crisp rendition of non-grape wine * Rocklands Farms is a beautiful vineyard and working farm, set in the country side of Poolesville, Maryland. They offer an array of wines and ciders, fresh meat, artisanal popsicles and local breads. Wine & Cider Tastings are ~$15 a person, we opted to try to ciders for free and buy a bottle to share. Visited Rocklands Farm Winery for an event this afternoon. It is in a beautiful setting, and it was a wonderful day for wine. I recommend it and would love to go back for a wine tasting and food. We decided to brave the pandemic and go to the closest winery with ample outdoor space to DC. It took about 51 minutes to get there from northern DC. Parking is plentiful, but it was super crowded. Recommend just brining your own chairs and table or blanket to avoid having to wait for a table. The red line was light, but robust. At $30 a bottle I couldn't see buying any wine to take home, but it was good for a day outing for two. There are usually food trucks on site. The snacks offered inside the facility are minimal and not particularly mouth watering. The food trucks sometimes stop serving food early, so don't wait too late to grab your order. Overall, the space is pretty and there is plenty of space to socially distance. My wife and I aren't really into kids at adult venues, so the number of kids running around was a bit overwhelming. Imagine this: you grew up in the burbs but never really hung out on a farm. Your curiosity gets you and, BAM, Rocklands winery calls your name. Rocklands Winery is a great place to visit on a date or with a group of friends. It will take you through backroads to get there so hold onto your britches. Parking is plentiful and the fun is nonstop. The ambiance is chill and brings a good vibe to your stay. They do an amazing job with current pandemic measures(better than their completion). They have a very simple system to Mark your table so you can get up to get food and wine without worrying about losing your seat. I suggest bringing snacks with you but they do sell meat/cheeses inside. The wines are good and you can buy them by the glass or bottle. Very nice winery venue. The drive out to the winery from DC is a quiet peaceful drive. We had a nice socially distanced visit. The staff memeber we interacted with were all sweet as pie. There were a lot of people out and some of the kids there were a little "rambunctious". We did find out that there is a 21 and up area but we didn't know that until the end of our visit. read more

Secluded and quaint place, we got there right when it opened at 12pm on a Sunday and had the whole tent seating area to ourselves. Would love to go back with a reservation for the fire pit seating! The fire pit seating requires reservations, otherwise picnic tables and the heated tent are open to anyone. They have plenty of seating even if you don't make a reservation. All the staff were warm and friendly and had informative descriptions about the wine selection. Definitely recommend the Honey Blossom, it was a sweet white wine, the Farmhouse was fresh and not too acidic. They had a food truck called Boxcar Burgers that had options like an Impossible Burger, Frederick County Burger (build-your-own), and Sriracha chicken, with a few fries options. This was my first time visiting this winery, and my friends joined me. Parking was readily available. Not too far from the venue. The grounds are well maintained. The first thing I noticed upon arrival was the COVID precautions. Everyone had masks, hand sanitizer was everywhere, and everything was being cleaned (doors, tables, etc.) each time something was touched. The shop was very organized. Limited entry based on the number of patrons, floor markers for traffic control, and registers cleaned between guests. I opted to create my own charcuterie plate. I purchased the honey blossom wine by the glass and the Bramble by the bottle. Although they weren't offering flights, you could sample wines that were already open. The outdoor dining spaces were beautiful and well shaded. We enjoyed our time, and will be back. read more

I rated this place 2 stars. Have been to other wineries and have never had such an experience. One thing that attracted to this place was the livestock, however when we entered one of the main hosts (seemed manager) did not have a welcoming or polite demeanor. Not sure if they expect a certain type of crowd and just will be rude to others. It ruined our experience to go back there again. I was hesitant to go inside and make any further purchases since I didn't want to deal with their fancy attitude. Not sure how this place has rating of 4.5 stars. They have decorated the place well with lights and livestock, which is a pleasant experience to enjoy. Their wines are little on high end but that we were aware of. Will not be going there again as it has a left a distasteful experience for us. read more

This place is amazing for a family with kids. It's got big, open spaces for kids to run, animals to keep them entertained, surprisingly decent wine and lets you bring your own food to set up a picnic. When my wife and I lived in Austin, there used to be tons of family-friendly spaces like this--mostly serving beer--where families could come and the kids would romp around while the parents could have something nice to eat an chill. DC is much more uptight about it's alcohol for whatever reason and it turns out that wineries are really where that kind of thing happens. That's too bad because I'd rather have good beer than wine, but I'll take fun family experiences where I can get them. Rocklands is probably the best such place we've found in the five-ish years we've been living in DC. It's got great open spaces with a whole playground area for kids and some farm animals to entertain the kids a bit. While we were there recently, there were some turkeys and ducks that stayed near enough for the kids to talk to them and some goats further off that didn't. Also, we went on a weekday afternoon when it wasn't that warm, so the place was pretty quiet and we could keep some distances from other people to keep us pretty COVID happy even though we're usually pretty sensitive. We bought two bottles of the Montevideo wine, which wasn't cheap, but was very yummy and went well with our picnic of crackers, cheese and PB&J sandwiches. It was a pretty perfect escape to some form of normal during COVID. read more

I love this place!!! It's so cute. Felt like we were hours away when in reality, we were just about 45 minutes away from DC. Everybody was friendly and the wine was great. We started off the day with flights of the fall wine, feeding the ducks that visited us at our table, and a walk around the beautiful farm. Later, we had some tacos from the Trippy Tacos. The food was delicious and fresh. Finally, we closed the day with drinks around the fireplace, petting the friendly farm dog that visited every fire pit and listening to great live music from the barn. They have made sure to space everything out, so that social distance is easy to maintain. If you visit early in the day, I recommend you take your own snacks, as the food truck comes later in the day. Also, obviously, have a designated driver! The wine and experience makes it easy to get a little carried away. Make sure to wear a nice outfit for pics!! read more

We're part of the winery club, and love it! The wines are delicious - Fieldwork and Farmhouse are our favorite- and the staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable. We do wish we could bring our dog, but since we can't we usually grab our wine and leave. The tasting room is rustic - very inviting! read more

Came here on Memorial Day weekend with my mother who is from out of town. It was a hot day but we found respite in the tasting room cellar. As a person who is not a fan of white wine, I was surprised by their selection. Not super sweet and very fruit forward. I liked the Honey Blossom and their Cabernet Sauvignon best. I'm giving a 5 star currently because of the amazing customer service I had during these difficult times. I didn't do the tasting it have the full experience, but I drove up to the winery to select a bottle to take and try at home. I have had Rockland's on my list to try for some time, but hadn't had the opportunity yet. I looked up their wines online and realized that they offer more wines on the dryer side. I drove up here with my sister and daughter (we just needed to take a ride) and when we arrived I was in love with the overall scenery. The house on the right looked beautiful with the spring flowers and trees fully blossomed. There was no one there but us, so I parked and walked up to the large barn where the tasting room is located. They had several picnic tables outside, and the inside looked really nice. I love the tasting car area set up and warm ambiance. The woman provided me with details and made suggestions based on what I told her my preferences are in wine. She suggested the Honey Blossom, which is a Vidal Blanc that is semi-sweet. It wasn't as sweet as I expected, but I really enjoyed it. It was smooth and tasteful. Once the chaos calms down, I plan to definitely do a tasting and provide a more accurate review. But overall it is a very nice place that I would like to fully enjoy. read more

Not sure what happened to this place, but the recent vintage is not good by any stretch of the imagination. Literally every wine smells strongly like a barn floor and tastes like it too. The folks are still friendly and the service is great, but the product stinks both figuratively and actually. Really disappointed with this year's vintages. I love having this winery so close to home! It's such a hidden gem that feels like it's an hour away because of the setting, when in reality it's a 15 minute drive. The staff are always friendly, the wines are tasty, AND they now have lights strung up around the farm that look beautiful at night. They're open until 9:00pm on Fridays with live music and food. This winery is like a hidden gem. It is an adventure every time my wife and I visit. We enjoy walking around the winery, and farmland. There are ducks, cats, and bugs of course just walking and flying around so if you enjoy animals this is your place. It is very family oriented but not family pet friendly yet because they have their own farm pets walking around. I had a great time tasting wine and petting the animals. You never feel close to anyone because the farm is super spacious with tons of places to go off and enjoy your wine. However, I wish there were goats... one day. The staff were amazing and very Knowledgeable. Most staff work part time and out there because they love the farm and customers. I cannot wait to visit again soon. read more

GPS Tip: for some reason my phone would not get me right to where the Winery is, I kept having issues with the tracking stopping me just a bit shy of path/road to winery. Pay attention to signs and if you pass a little bridge/creek keep going! Great spot to head on a weekend with friends and family! I loved getting to try a few of the different wines and ciders, we ended up going with a few different Cider flights and bottles for our group and loved everything. They also have cheese, snacks, ice-cream pops and PIZZA! I think the hours vary on Pizza so check that but we had brick-oven pizza and it was delicious, we went with the one that had bunch of sausage and loved it. read more

Updating because our last trip here was troubling. While walking around the farm, a member of our party found a sick, emaciated dog tied up in the blazing sun without any water. When he alerted the staff, they said that they had shared their concerns about this with the owners before, but that the owners did not address it. This was a dog on the farm's property, presumably that belonged to the owners. The staff here has been great, but I'm not comfortable supporting the ownership anymore. read more

We decided to wander over to one of the Wineries near us. We were looking for a relaxing afternoon, including lunch and a flight of wine samples. The lunch was beyond fantastic! We went to the German Food truck. Everything pickled and delightful! We shared the pork stick and sausage as well as an order of the beans. Food check! Rocklands Farm Winery is tucked away in the countryside which is nice because you escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a bit. The first time I visited was on a weeknight and there weren't too many people, but I visited a second time this past weekend (Sunday) and it was pretty packed. The farm/winery is huge. To my surprise, there was more parking area than I had originally thought. There were a ton families with little screaming kids running around, which makes you really thankful for the "adults only" area. There was live music upstairs in the barn, which was so lovely. Food trucks (sweetfarm and Pizza Brama) were parked right outside the barn. From the sweetfarm food truck, we got a hotdog ($8) that comes with whatever condiments you wanted to put on it. There is also a small pond with ducks and geese in the lower area of the property. There's sometimes feed available there (or at the barn) for the kiddos to feed the ducks. Now onto the wine! Before we decided on which bottle of wine we wanted to go with, Lauren gave us small tastes of a couple wines. She was so helpful, friendly, and patient with all the questions I had. We ended up going with a bottle of Monocacy (white) wine. It was refreshing and light and didn't have as much of a 'bite' as a chardonnay would. Also, if you are military, be sure to mention/show your ID to get 10% off! We took our bottle and two glasses to the adults-only area and found a picnic table to settle down on. For the amount of people that were there, it was surprisingly really peaceful and enjoyable. We sat there for a bit, chatting, and people-watching, unbothered. Our favorite wine was the Cabernet Franc. We also loved the build your own charcuterie options with a cutting board available for each guest (never seen a winery offer that). I love this winery!!!!! It's absolutely stunning with its rolling hills and garden space. There's usually live music playing, which my friends and I really enjoyed. They have a good selection of cheeses, charcuterie meat, and other knick knacks to snack on in their barn shop too. My friends (over 21) said they really liked the wine, which came at a pretty decent price. The staff was also cheery and super accommodating. After the multi-million dollar production wineries of Northern Virginia (that increasingly feel like Napa Valley east), the wine-tasting experience at Rocklands Farm is a bucolic and quaint experience. Literally minutes from the Maryland section of the beltway, you can enter a different world with pigs, chicken, open skies, and relaxing vistas of fields. The coup de grace is the delightful opportunity for wine-tasting in a bar in a barn. You could easily savor a staycation afternoon getaway here, far from the mania of K-Street or the traffic of Tysons, while savoring the authentic charm of a working farm. As you roll down the gravel paths and cross the bridge over their creek, a charming historic mansion in original brickwork is your first striking impression. To one side is a picturesque red barn, inside which are communal tables, wine bars, coolers filled with cuts of meat from the farm, and other farm produce. From the heft and hew of the barn timbers to the wooden floors, you quickly get that this is no show-piece hall designed to emulate an Italian villa or a western lodge. This is indeed a real barn...and there are a few real flies around for good measure. It's charmingly decorated with greens and fairy lights, and is a refreshing change from the hyper-glossy experience of the urban scene. Their wine tasting is quite good, albeit they are rather young wines and forward in flavor rather than subdued and mellow as the best mature sipping wines can be. Turns out the Cabernet Franc and the Vidal Franc are fairly notable as far as a red and a white pick. Their "Montevideo" (a Petit Verdot blend) is a heavyweight bang on the palate, if you are into bold wines. Their outside picnic area is deliciously relaxing. Once your urban edges are sufficiently mollified after a glass or two, then trample out to look at the piglets in their pen (they are adorable), or the hens out in the field near their school-bus turned into a coop. If you are lucky their super-friendly farm dog will bring you a stick to throw for some canine entertainment. Some final notes: - Equally good for a date or a family outing - You can buy pasture-raised animal products from their working farm, I bought eggs - Make a Friday evening at the bar in a barn, they have musicians who perform every first Friday - You can subscribe to their weekly produce delivery at different locations around the metro area, this is an honest-to-goodness real farm (and we should all support local agriculture as a way to resist the fossil-fuel consuming agribusiness model feeding us cornsugar on everything!!) read more

Several of its wines are good they are of course not worth the price compared to many great wines at $25 to $45 price point however it's for the location and ambience as well. Always a great place to enjoy some wine and delicious food (food trucks, check website for food vendor schedule). What I love most about Rocklands is you can bring your own food and there's so much seating available that you'll always find a seat no matter what time you come. All of the staff is extremely friendly and I enjoy the little ducks and chickens roaming around the farm. Most of the seating is also shaded! The wine and cider list is always changing so we love to come and try them out. read more

After an afternoon of apple picking at Homestead Farm this winery was just what the doctor ordered. This is definitely a hidden gem. I brought my family visiting from out of town (all adults) mid-day on a Friday. If I'd known that they have live Jazz every Friday evening then I definitely would have made arrangements to come a little later. I was told they have different local food vendors that come on the weekends to serve hot foods but they don't arrive until after 6pm on Friday's. So I was unable to experience the pizza that all the other Yelpers keep raving about. I chose to do the wine tasting which was held at the inside bar. The bartender was very patient and took her time describing each of the wines to us. I was able to sample 6-7 different wines which were all very "meh" and just "OK", but since we were staying for a bit I ended up purchasing a bottle of a Sauvignon Blanc blend and a few of their meats and cheeses. Then went outside to relax and enjoy the view or at least try to. Surprisingly, the patio was filled with lots of small children who were running and climbing the trees out front. Which is another reason why I deducted stars. I'm happy that it's family friendly but I think there should at least be a section that's off limits to any guests under 21. I just wanted to relax and you couldn't possibly do that with so many kids around. I'm not a mother so my opinions may come off a little biased or insensitive. 1) I think wineries should be 21 yrs+ 2) Why bring noisy kids to what is supposed to be a peaceful setting and 3) Why would parents want to drink and drive with their kids in the car???!
