26 March 2019 -- Citrus Glazed Salmon Salad
    Agnes I.

If you're from the Akron neighbourhood and surrounding areas (Norton, Barbeton, etc), then you will know all about Rocknie's. I'm not from this area so I had no idea about this restaurant until my co-workers told me about it. I live in Cleveland and I've lived here for 1.5 years now so Rocknie's was never a place I had heard about. Since I'm currently working in Akron temporarily, my team had ordered food from here twice before and finally, TODAY (26 March), I actually loved what I ate. Third time is a charm, right? RIGHT. Sidenote - Normally I don't like too much cheese or oily foods. Neither do I order lettuce as part of a salad. I prefer kale or spinach on a salad. The only time I eat cheese is on pizza. The first time I came here, I ordered a chicken sandwich which had nothing much inside except the chicken and maybe tomato slices (I got it without cheese). I was not full at all after eating it and it was a plain sandwich. The second time, I ordered the Shrimp and fries but they were too oily. FOOD -- Today, we got lunch on the house courtesy of my manager at work. I ordered one of the new salads on the menu. I got the CITRUS GLAZED SALMON SALAD which is broiled salmon over a bed of spinach with fruit, cucumbers, and 4 small pieces of grilled pita bread on the side. I enjoyed the taste of the fruit in my salad. There were small pieces of oranges and strawberries. Then there were 2 round pineapple pieces too. The salmon was well cooked and it was a very hearty size. The salad came with a dressing which I got on the side. The dressing absolutely enhanced the taste of the salad even more. I don't remember the type of dressing it was. I also ordered the sesame oriental dressing on the side. Both of these dressings were perfect for the salad. SERVICE -- I have been here once and ordered out the other times. The service was friendly and good. The waitress checked on me and a co-worker and manager a few times during lunch. I highly recommend trying the citrus salmon salad. It is so YUMMY. This is a new menu item and is one of the only few salads on their menu without lettuce. *** - 50 total reviews in 2019 - 259 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 26 March 2019

The food was absolutely fire. I ordered the fish & grits, and every single bite delivered. The grits were creamy and perfectly seasoned, the toast and eggs were spot-on, and the potatoes were cooked just right -- crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. It honestly brought a tear to my eye and transported me straight back to breakfast at my grandma's table. But that crispy fish? That was the star of the show, baby!! Golden, perfectly seasoned, fried to perfection -- the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-conversation just to appreciate it. Everything on my plate was delicious, and the service was just as impressive -- warm, welcoming, and attentive without missing a beat. You can taste the love in the food and feel the hospitality in the room. If you're in Akron, do yourself a favor: Go. Go. Go. Support this restaurant! Your taste buds will thank you -- and you'll probably be planning your next visit before you even leave the parking lot.

It had greens in it instead of spinach and it was so tasty. The French toast bites were also different but in a good way. They were like bite size treats and the flavor wasn't the perfect amount of sweetness and butter, both not to much but extremely tasty, the shrimp and grits were also delicious, buttery, savory and not too much seasoning. When I come back to Akron I look forward to trying more things in the menu. They staff were laid back and the chef was hella pretty. Definitely a gem in Akron if you're craving breakfast food.

I've never been here before but I know it's a fairly popular place so I was quick to agree to the location. We originally sat at the bar but the stools were so incredibly uncomfortable, so we moved to a booth. While our server was nice, it did take her quite a while to come take our drink order. I got a "lavendar breeze" for my first drink and it was delicious. The menu is small, with the focus being on grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm not a huge grilled cheese lover, so I ordered a wedge salad (with house white French dressing) and the sauerkraut balls from the appetizer menu. The salad was on par with what you'd expect, the dressing was tasty. The sauerkraut balls, though, kind of threw me. First, it's a HUGE serving. There was around 30-40 sauerkraut balls in the basket; way more than I ever imagined would be in an order. I was expecting four or five golf ball sized balls. Maybe I've been spoiled by having some fantastic sauerkraut balls, but these were subpar, at best. They didn't have a lot of flavor and the cocktail sauce they served with them was an odd choice. While I still enjoyed time catching up with a friend and the drinks were well done, I doubt I'll come back for food. The menu just wasn't appealing to me and what I did have wasnt good enough to lure me back anytime soon.

They have a taco Tuesday thing but it's not a discount it's 3 tacos and you can mix and match from what they make. Which is not really a special in my opinion. The place has a nice patio and inside can fit an about 10 tables of various sizes. And the bar has seating. Cute place. I see it can get crowded on a Friday night or Saturday night. We got the green bean app for the table. They are cooked perfectly with teriyaki glaze and some tempura but not a lot. They have a sauce that has a bit of a kick but not bad. These are good and good to share. Good portion. I ordered the steak and gruyere sandwich and chips. Sandwich was good. Not big but very flavorful and good. Would have liked a bigger banquette for the sandwich. Ok amount of meat. It was good. The chip side was very crunch and good amount. But to me the chips were a bit greasy tasting. Needed more salt and a bit of flavor. It was a ok meal. The friend that suggested the restaurant got the Ohio burger. It was huge. She cut it into 4's and only ate half. It was big! She also got the chips. Again chips were ok just a bit oily tasting and need salt. The dining area is loud. Lots of people in close proximity talking. It's hard to hear and sound is bouncing. That was a bit of a bummer to try and talk over all the noise. Server was good very attentive and helped with suggestions. Bill for 3 sandwiches, including a burger, a water, coke and cider with green beans appetizer was $81. Not including tip.

One minor gripe: the mac and cheese is a little one-note. It's not bad, it just doesn't surprise you. Don't get me wrong: the food is fine (in the most mediocre sense). Full disclosure: We don't eat red meat, so I can't comment on their steaks, which is what the place is known for. This is a classic case of tradition masquerading as fine dining. There's no subtly or nuance to the cuisine. The oysters Rockefeller was overly sauced, and the salad was overdressed. My salmon was a bit overcooked, but the baked potato was very good. The dessert, a brownie with ice cream, ate like a Little Debbie squirted with Hershey chocolate sauce. I will say that our server was wonderful and was working very hard. The ambiance, however, was sad. We were seated in the bar area on very uncomfortable wooden benches. Honestly, it felt like a Cracker Barrel. At the bar was an obnoxiously loud man dropping F-bombs and saying homophobic things. He pretty much ruined any enjoyment we had a hope of having. Finally, Diamond Grille doesn't accept credit cards, which we knew, but again, our enjoyment was dampened by having to keep track of how much everything cost so we didn't spend more than the cash we had gotten out of the ATM on our way. The hostess told us they were planting their feet and never taking cards, and I just don't understand why, in the 21st century, a business would alienate customers like this. All in all, this place is resting on its past reputation, and in my opinion, it's unearned.
