Rockne's is usually a busy space but I was lucky enough to have the dining room to myself since I went between the lunch and dinner rush. The Highland Square location is much more intimate than other Rockne's locations I've visited. My server was very kind and attentive. I also watched her meticulously clean and straighten out the dining room. I could definitely tell that she took pride in how the restaurant looked. The food was tasty. So tasty that I forgot to take pictures! I come to Rockne's every now and then when I'm craving some classic comfort food. Their salad selection is great & their pricing is not too bad. I ordered 2 bowls of soup,1 mushroom Brie and 1 chicken dumpling. The soup lids were not placed on properly and had spilled all over on the ride back to my job. The mushroom Brie was for a co worker who said it was very good. Mine was the chicken dumpling and it was awful. There were maybe 5 mini dumplings in the soup and it very watered down. Very disappointed in the quality I received for a $8.99 bowl of soup. I have had this soup before from other locations and it has never been so watered down and lacking dumplings. read more

If you're from the Akron neighbourhood and surrounding areas (Norton, Barbeton, etc), then you will know all about Rocknie's. I'm not from this area so I had no idea about this restaurant until my co-workers told me about it. I live in Cleveland and I've lived here for 1.5 years now so Rocknie's was never a place I had heard about. Since I'm currently working in Akron temporarily, my team had ordered food from here twice before and finally, TODAY (26 March), I actually loved what I ate. Third time is a charm, right? RIGHT. Sidenote - Normally I don't like too much cheese or oily foods. Neither do I order lettuce as part of a salad. I prefer kale or spinach on a salad. The only time I eat cheese is on pizza. The first time I came here, I ordered a chicken sandwich which had nothing much inside except the chicken and maybe tomato slices (I got it without cheese). I was not full at all after eating it and it was a plain sandwich. The second time, I ordered the Shrimp and fries but they were too oily. FOOD -- Today, we got lunch on the house courtesy of my manager at work. I ordered one of the new salads on the menu. I got the CITRUS GLAZED SALMON SALAD which is broiled salmon over a bed of spinach with fruit, cucumbers, and 4 small pieces of grilled pita bread on the side. I enjoyed the taste of the fruit in my salad. There were small pieces of oranges and strawberries. Then there were 2 round pineapple pieces too. The salmon was well cooked and it was a very hearty size. The salad came with a dressing which I got on the side. The dressing absolutely enhanced the taste of the salad even more. I don't remember the type of dressing it was. I also ordered the sesame oriental dressing on the side. Both of these dressings were perfect for the salad. SERVICE -- I have been here once and ordered out the other times. The service was friendly and good. The waitress checked on me and a co-worker and manager a few times during lunch. I highly recommend trying the citrus salmon salad. It is so YUMMY. Where do I begin! I came with my hubby, Brucie, and then his close friend James joined us. Now let me tell you, the burgers here are impeccable. They always taste fresh as ever and the waitress I have always listens so well, but I did dock some points for the general aura of the establishment. I was sat next to two strangers who were rather loud and screamed insults at each other!! I wonder why they weren't removed. We came to this location because the Director of my agency was having her retirement party here and it was my son's actual birthday (we already visited another location a few days ago for his party). The dining room wasn't as big or nice as our Stow location. One of my coworkers came in a wheelchair and was unable to go into the bar because every entrance has steps. As with the other location, the food was outstanding. I couldn't help but order the oriental salad again & my son ordered the fried shrimp w/ fries again. The amount of fries he got was unreal. We both ate them because there was so much. We also had the macaroni bites again too. So good. I only give the place 3 stars because the service was a bit slow and it wasn't busy plus the whole wheelchair accessibility. read more

We had a terrible experience last night at my former favorite Rockne's on Merriman Rd. My daughter was treated like it was like it was an imposition to wait on her. We have loved Rockne's for years, and the service has always been excellent. When we sat down to eat we noticed out salads felt rather light,and upon further exploration we noticed that our salads felt rather light due to the lack of lettuce. On top of that we had been given the butt of the lettuce which is inedible. I called the manager who was willing to make it good if we returned the salads. Due to the heavy snow and terrible roads we did not return it. I have never heard of a restaurant asking me to return the meal in order to get a new salads. The terminator sub, and rueben sandwich were excellent. That made it two stars. read more

We attempted to eat here tonight. We usually get right in. There were several large groups and we were sat immediately despite asking for a high chair and helping ourselves to one... But that's where the good service ended. We walked out after waiting and waiting for someone to say "Hi we'll be with you shortly". Nothing. Fifteen minutes later, no drinks, no waters, four other tables came in AFTER us and had orders taken and drinks.... I won't even get into one customer that was obnoxious and loud and heard at the door. That was a precursor for our horrible night. I spoke to the manager as we were leaving. No I'm sorry, no we will make it right. He said "We have a new host." Your host, sir, wasn't the problem. We usually make Rocknes one of our regular restaurants because of good service. We are USUALLY low maintenance customers (honest). We won't be back. Supporting local places is important but after tonight, we will find a local competitor that may not be perfect but makes an effort. read more

My favorite local restaurant. I love the fries here! Also the "Jack the Knife" burger is the best burger you will find in Akron. If you want a really great chicken alfredo, the one here is a great sized portion, full of flavor, lots of chicken, and molting with cheese. The chicken dumpling soup is addictive. I find myself craving it from time-to -time here in Salt Lake. The Firestone salad is a great Akron tradition. read more

Not my favorite and certainly do not order any Italian dishes such as penne with meat sauce. This is not the place for that type of meal. If you want a greasy burger or cheesesteak then go for it. Paid $12 for a filet salad that only had 3 strips of steak in it for the second time. The salad was mostly lettuce and not worth the money spent . The older steak salad was a better value, before they switched to the filet. Probably will choose another location going forward. read more

Meh. Flavorless Fish sandwich. Black Bean soup that everyone raves about is average at best. Not terrible - but not fresh and nothing special. The warm pasta chicken salad was ...kinda gross. The tenders were maybe "poached?" They were wet and oddly soft like no chicken I had ever tasted before. The server was lovely but the greeter sat us at a window in an empty restaurant when it was freezing out (we asked to be moved). The tables are ridiculously small and the little paper "place mats" big enough for just your fork and knife are just weird. like they are too cheap to give you a full place mat. Pretty much everything I tried I could make better at home. And that negates the whole reason for eating out. No thanks. read more

Very disappointed! My office ordered lunch today and again we were let down. It wasn't a large order so it shouldn't have been too difficult to get it right. A bowl of soup, chicken tender salad add egg, sliders with fries, and a burger add fries. The soup was fine but the salad was missing the egg and the tomatoes were green and hard, the sliders were missing the fries, and I asked for ketchup and mustard for the burger but got ketchup and mayonnaise. We hadn't ordered from there for a while because the last time was disappointing as well. We thought maybe this time would be better but I guess not. It is a very nice place, very professional and very clean. The food is really good too. I got the sampler with fries. It came with boneless wings, bone in wings, deep fried macaroni bites (they were amazing), fried chicken, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and french fries. The friendly were good but they were very thin and crispy/burnt. It wasn't a problem for me tjough because I like them like that. But my biggest issue is the personel sized cheesecake. It was very small and I finished it in 2 bites! It was probably only about 1 inch in diameter. But it was good. I would get it again. read more

Having lunch there was a disaster. We waited over 45 minutes for our food. When we got our food 3 out of our 5 plates had hair in it and 1 have multiple hairs. I have always thought that Rockne's had good food but recently I have changed my mind. I grew up in the Akron area and I have been to Rockne's numerous times. In the past month, our office has ordered lunch for take-out twice from the Merriman Road location. Today I had the chicken and dumplings soup with side salad. They put pieces of grilled chicken into the soup - who does that? The carrots were crunchy. Again, if you are actually making soup, carrots are not going to be crunchy and the chicken will be slow-cooked, not grilled. The salad was right out of a bag, but they did add red onion and croutons that gave it some flavor, but sparse with the tomato and cucumber. The prior take-out order was a salad with grilled chicken on top. It was a generous amount but parts of the chicken were burned and then after I had eaten half of it, I noticed one piece of chicken was still slightly pink inside so I threw away the rest of the salad. I don't know who is managing the kitchen at this location, but you need to step up your game. The owner of the restaurant should be embarrassed by this mediocre food, and needs to find out what is going on in his or her kitchen. I can say that the take-out orders for our office have been accurate each time, so the employee who takes care of that is doing a good job. read more
