I just moved to the Lakeview area in Chicago and decided to give some of the restaurants in the area a try! My boyfriend and I just happened to walk by Rocks one day and went in on a whim. It was an odd time to go out to eat (between lunch and dinner). The restaurant was pretty empty. Our server was very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. After looking at the menu it was apparent that Rocks offers a lot of daily "deals". We didn't take advantage of any of the deals but it's definitely something we would go back for. I wasn't very hungry so I just had the hummus plate off of the appetizer portion of the menu. I thought it wasn't going to be much but the plate came loaded with veggies , pita, and hummus! I couldn't even finish it! My boyfriend got the rocks burger with the pretzel bun. It was huge and very delicious. However, I felt that some of the items on the menu were a bit overpriced. They have the option of sitting on the patio or inside. On nice days, sitting inside isn't such a bad deal since their windows are open to the outside. I'm reviewing this establishment as more of a restaurant than a bar since they have such an extensive food menu. I've eaten at Rocks at least a dozen times and have tried a wide variety of options mostly with success. The burgers are pretty good across the board (including the "Burger of the Month") and some of their other sandwiches are worth repeat orders, namely the Leroy Brown and the Unmi-Steak-Able Sandwich. The hummus platter is a great value and the $6 salad special on Wednesday nights should not be overlooked. My favorite thing to order here, however, is a bowl of the French onion soup with a side of tater tots (hello sodium!). The soup is great and the tots are perfectly crispy. I generally hate tater tots because so many places let them get soggy but Rocks has never failed me in that department. Not to mention, you can't beat an $8 ($5 + $3, respectively) check for such a warm, filling meal. The only menu item I don't particularly care for are the White Trash Nachos. It's not that I don't enjoy the flavor, I just prefer regular tortilla chips (or even fries) to the corn scoops they use here. The dish is basically regular nacho toppings piled on top of Funyuns. Overall though, Rocks has good food by neighborhood bar standards. The staff, from management down to the doormen, is excellent, the bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, and the crowd is (almost) always fun and respectful. read more

Hands down my favorite neighborhood spot. Whether it's meeting friends for the Rocks lunch special and whiskey of the month, a post-workout salad (the steak!!), or a filling dinner before a night out, I always leave happy. The food is amazing. We always get the mac and cheese wedges and, aside from the salad, the bbbest bbburger is a go-to. Wednesday's are half-priced burgers! This place is great! Love the burgers- and especially love the option of splitting the burger and getting a side each. Beer is good too and they have trivia once a week. Also one day (forget which) the special of the day is a soup and a sandwich for $6! That's a deal. Not a fan of the brunch though. And the service is wildly unpredictable. I would say 70% the waitress is attentive and the food arrives on time and 30% of time the food will take over an hour. So it's sort of a gamble. Is Karma a real thing? I believe so and here's why. Over the years of my city dwelling, I have found many things including ; few phones, wallets stocked with and without money, a drunk girl in a bush with her things all over the ground... happy 21 st!!! I have returned, given back, sent and helped everytime. I didn't do it for this post or to brag, to get a reward, or to even feel good about myself, but to do the right thing. We are all human and we have to help each other survive. Time treats us all the same. We each have 24 hours to decide what to do with our day. In most cases, I try to ALWAYS to do what's right. Tonight I left my wallet with $100.00 cash @ ROCKS lakeview, and the busser was honest enough to turn in my wallet, with cash still in it. Times are hard.... I am a waiter (as most of you know), I work for tips. I don't always get tipped and it makes me question my work ethic, did I mess up, did they not have a good time, are they even aware how hard I work for my money? I'm on a bit of a ramble, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is, we forget the small people sometimes. We most often only care about the people we love, screw everyone else,(I don't owe them ****). Some people only impact you for a few seconds, a hour, at most maybe even a few years, but you can impact them for the rest of their life. While this is still fresh in my #feels, I wanted to give a shoutout to all the honest, trustworthy, good people. Thank you, you help keep my faith in humanity, we can be better. This place opened abuot a month ago and I have been there twice in the past 3 days. It is really near my place and seems like a good chill bar/restaurant. It seems to be a good option for this area when you do not want Asain or Pizza. Their kitchen is open late which will be nice a well. It has many beers that I have not had before both on tap and ready to order. They are a bit pricey but for 1 or 2 drinks that doesn't seem like a big deal. I had the rocks burger which was very tasty with fries. The second visit I ordered the BBQ wrap which was lighter and good and my g/f ordered the mac and cheese with chicken which was very rich. Plus it was a ton of food as she brought half of it home. I can't wait to go back for the eye-opener burger and also the fried snickers dessert. read more

I'm definitly a Rocks fan. It's a great place to grab a drink or a quick meal. The whole place is surrounded with flat screens so no matter where you sit you can catch whatever game is on. They have plenty of seating inside and during warm weather there is also seating outside. The food I've had there has always been really good. Highly recommend the Rocks burger! We love this place! In the winter it can get a little crowded in the evening, but other than that we've had nothing but excellent service. The newly instated bourbon of the month (to compliment their beer of the month and the burger of the month) is a welcome addition to their specials list. This place is great in the summer with their outdoor seating. Only on one occasion have we had poor service and the other times we went have more than mad up for that one transgression. Big fan of Rocks and often recommend it to friends. Staff is incredibly friendly and very knowledgable when it comes to both the food and drink menu. I've heard people complain about having to wait too long, but I've never really had this problem, and from my observations with this place, it'd only be because they're spending a little extra time with other tables making recommendations or being friendly, which is rare for most places these days. Food is very solid for a bar. I've had almost all the burgers and would highly recommend 4 or 5 of them, but the 2x4 Burger reigns supreme. Also recommend the Mac N'Cheesus (add bacon) or the Leroy Brown. Brunch is the only real disappointment for me when it comes to their food. Where the food is good to great, the drinks are spectacular. Good beer list, huge whiskey list, and some solid specials. They make a killer Bloody Mary at a reasonable price, making it one of my favorite hair-of-the-dog spots on weekends. Just was doing their '12 Beers of Xmas' the other night, and highly recommend that as well. Overall, great place with an incredible staff, solid food, and more tasty booze than you could shake a stick at. I'd recommend checking it out for a Saturday brunch or weekday dinner (especially if you want to catch a game). Didn't get the final star because it can sometimes be a bit packed with tools (but still no where near as bad as other bars in this hood). I heard that someone gave this great restaurant a negative review. They must have been on something. This restaurant is @ 4 blocks from my home. We go often. The burgers are delicious and huge. I usually take home half. My favorite is the Big Kauna because I love avocado and pineapple. If you are trying to be a little healthy you can have green beans for the side and they are tasty. I occasionally try something else and everything I've had is very good. They have a friendly staff. Before COVID it was full every night. Now it is still filling up as much as possible but they are very careful to follow COVID rules. They have outside seating and take-out if you don't want to eat inside or at a restaurant at all. First of all, the service here is awesome. I am actually writing about 2 different times I went in. The first time, I went in and was lucky enough to have this awesome bubbly chick named Sam. She was seriously great! Her recommendation to try the Mac and Cheese was CLUTCH! She was really helpful in helping me choose a beer and giving great recommendations. She rocked it and made me want to go back (well, her and the Mac and Cheese). She was also really sweet! So I go back again like 2 nights later (right, already addicted to the place). This time I was lucky enough to have Gianna as my server (I made sure I asked how to spell her name cause I knew I'd be reviewing her). SHE IS SO FUNNY! Like Sam 2 days before, Gianna knew her stuff and had excellent recommendations! I was debating between two burgers, and then she gave me info about all of them, and I ended up going with one that sounded even more mouth watering and amazing. AND THAT'S WHAT IT WAS! SO DELICIOUS! The food and drinks and service here were absolutely amazing! When you go, ask if Gianna or Sam are working, and definitely get into their section! You will have a great time and get AWESOME service! I really like this place. I always crave their brunch (though I have never made it to their actual brunch since it ends at noon!) bc on Sunday mornings, a lot of times I just want a good burger and bloody. That is exactly what you get. I always describe this place as "consistently good" - no, you are not going to be blown away, but if you want some good food, good beer, and an amazing whisk(e)y selection, this is the place for you. They are always busy, and sometimes the service is spotty (I am in the service industry as well, and I never leave feeling jilted, but I know that things take too long. They seem to have an understaffing problem - not the server's fault, but still kinda stinks) but all in all it is a great place. The food was great and the service was good too, but what really surprised me was the host, Maurice. The restaurant was very crowded and Maurice had a lot of people asking him to be seated, but he took the time to warmly welcome me and checked in with me several times while I waited. I have never had a host who was more welcoming or handled stress better than Maurice and he made the experience at Rock's exceptional. I was aching for a burger. And we were at LP Zoo. So we decided to drive north on clark to see what we could find and there was Rocks with a parking spot RIGHT IN FRONT. I think it was meant to happen. As new parents (our kid is 4 mos old) I hesitate on going to certain places....He's a great kid and doesn't fuss and is really cute but I know what I was like when childless so I take my feelings into account when going somewhere. My husbo does not. Anyhow, he goes in and talks to a guy and the guy assures him it's fine that we bring our little pudge inside and he gave us a high top. He was very accommodating...So three solid stars for that. We get in, have a seat, give the kid a bottle and order our burgers. I had the Gordo...It hit that cheeseburger spot that was void like a ton of bricks. Worth every single fat laden calorie. Husbo had the smack/slamdown? He's not a burger fan and he enjoyed every single bite. I had grilled asparagus - Another 3 solid stars for not charging me an extra $4. It was garlicky and perfectly cooked. Husbo got carrot soup - it was interestingly good. After his bottle, little dude started to get cranky so we held him at the table. He got flirted with a bunch of 20 something girls and loved it.
