Sheffield's management or bouncer was beyond rude and broke the ada law upon my 5 minute interaction with him today. *I have a service + therapy dog with me. He's been certified for 3 yrs* Upon walking up to the establishment with my fiancé and service dog, there was an officer there wearing a badge. He acknowledged how cute Rory (my service dog) was and stated he was a service dog. He then asked if he could pet Rory, I said yes that would be fine with me. Another gentleman, not sure what role he played at the establishment, approached us while the officer was still there. He began questioning me and Rory's legitimacy on being a service dog since he just saw the officer pet him. I informed him that the officer had asked and I said it was ok. He then said "we have a lot of people that pretend their dogs are service dogs to get them in"; I replied I have his badge and the dog trainer's(dog training elite) number to contact her. He allowed us in. Less than a minute latter when my finance, Rory, and I were walking to a table, the bouncer/manager re-approaches us and says we have to leave predicated on the notion I let an officer say hi and pet Rory after the officer had asked. The law allows establishments to only ask 2 questions when it comes to service animals; 1) Is it a legitimate service animal? 2) What service is the service animal providing? I was only asked #1, if Rory was a service animal, I am allowed to give my service animal a break on occasion and I decide who can and can't say hi to him. Have never been discriminated like this in my life. And will never be returning to the facility. read more

Sheffield's is a great spot during patio season! There are tons of picnic tables and lights are strung above. On the weekends (or cubs games) it's usually packed. There are no reservations, it's first come first serve to the tables. There's standing room as well, and we usually end up standing with a drink before a table opens up. While Sheffield's is usually pretty loud and bustling, I love it. I appreciate that they have about 8 ciders on their drink menu and unique flavors, too. I got a passion fruit cider, they also had pineapple and strawberry lime. Sheffield's also has a surprising amount of vegetarian options - especially for an American bar type of restaurant. The fried green tomato sliders are my favorite (2 come per order). It comes with a tangy balsamic dipping sauce that pairs perfectly with the goat cheese and tomato. They also have nachos, veggie chili, salads, and a veggie burger. I ordered the veggie burger. The patty was slightly pink from the beets and it was overall very solid. read more

Walked into Sheffield's before a rain delayed Cubs game. Glad that I did - this place has a warm, comfortable and traditional Chicago bar/restaurant that I love. I was attended to promptly and had excellent service throughout my meal. I very much enjoyed the pulled pork platter. Solid happy hour option. Came on a Friday around 5:30, and while it was busy, we were able to find a table with no issue in the front bar area. Our server (can't remember his name!) was great-super friendly, gave beer recommendations, and checked in every once in a while without hovering (we weren't in a rush so took our time with food orders; he'd check in every so often to be sure we weren't feeling neglected but always told us to take our time). They use an online menu, which is fine, but it's not the easiest to navigate-even our server had trouble helping us find the beer. You have to filter the menu to get to the beer selections. Once we figured it out it was okay, but a little bit odd to start. Their beer selection is great, which is to be expected. My friend tried a few different ones, but I found that I liked the Guava Gose Sour so I stuck with that. For food we just did appetizers, and neither of us were impressed. I know this place focuses on BBQ, so perhaps if we had ordered entrees we would have felt differently. We started with the pickle chips, which were probably my favorite. They were fried well and had good flavor-a bit of a kick, but that could be lessened if you're wimp with spice (like me, lol) with the dipping sauce. We later got the sweet potato fries and the pretzel bites. The fries were fine, noting special about them but quite a hearty serving. The pretzel bites were weird as they were filled with cheese (guess we missed that on the menu). They too had a kick to them, so not my favorite. The place did fill up as we sat there, and it did get quite loud and hard to talk. I get that'll happen in a bar; just pointing out that if you're going for a quite place to have conversation, this might not be it once it gets busy. Overall, a solid option for happy hour, though. We grabbed a seat at the bar and had great banter and conversation with the bartenders working, Jackson and Aaron. Both were so welcoming, friendly, and generous to us! Sheffields has an extensive beer menu, and they actually carry my favorite cider, Vandermill Totally Roasted. It's an Apple cider infused with cinnamon and vanilla pecans, and is the PERFECT fall drink! We shared the pretzel bites and a kale salad and both were really delicious! The pretzels are served with mustard but have warm melted cheese in them. So good! I was a little nervous about ordering a salad here since it is more of a bar food joint, but it was surprisingly awesome. The kale was chopped nicely and there was just the right amount of dressing. This was our final outdoor eating venture last year. One of us wanted to try the annual bourbon stout beer, which is good but VERY Strong! I arrived and was seated at the outdoor area near the back. It was a cold but dry night, and there lights and coverings but not enough heat! There was a huge tv and plenty of socially distanced other diners. Right on the other side of us we could see heat lamps. It was chilly but not too bad. I got the Christmas Ale, dark but with spicy caramel flavors. The stout was good but very strong. The stars are 4 but should be 3.5. The Fried Green Tomato sliders were great, but they were out of TWO things we really wanted: ribs and beef brisket! I realize the demand was crazy at the time but seriously? We opted for pulled pork, which was great, and the manager gave us some BBQ Chicken samples for compensation. The server was attentive and lovely. If I opt for outdoor seating again I'll see if I can get near the fireplace(which is inside but near the door) or those heaters. This is a rather large place that we stopped into for a quick drink or two while bar hopping in the area. They have a great selection of beer and wine and the service is pretty quick. The food looked pretty good at nearby tables, but we didn't have time to order anything this time. The bathrooms were clean and maintained as well which is always a plus.
