I had heard good things about this place but rarely venture to Westminster/Carroll County despite living in nearby Howard County. My friend and her husband met my husband and I for dinner this past Sunday. They do not accept reservations for parties of less than 6, so we waited by the bar for probably 20-30 minutes until a table was ready. The place was packed and cleared out by 8:30 or so. Definitely an earlier dining crowd. The tavern stays open later according to their website, but the dinner rush seemed to be the main group of loyal locals. Katie was our server and was one of the best around-friendly, read our table and realized as long as the drinks were replenished we were good. Not me, since I gave up drinking for Lent. She was gracious enough to switch out a drink when my friend claimed that it tasted different despite being the same type of Prosecco. *Shoulder shrug*. As a former bartender and server I know how challenging it can be to deal with people and still have a pleasant demeanor and Katie did that and more. Now onto the food/drink! We were starving like we'd been wandering around the Jungle and hadn't eaten for weeks so we ordered a lot and over ate. We started with the hand cut fries topped with cheddar jack and old bay (delicious), the Shucker's Choice/1 dozen oysters on the half shell (impressive mostly local or regional selections) and great brine, texture, and taste, and the RockSalt wings (tangy and sweet as described on their menu). Katie brought us some soft rolls with a honey butter because carbs are life. For entrees, my friends ordered the 14 oz Roseda Farms Rib Eye (topped with herb butter & served with red potatoes & sauteed green beans) and the scallops served over rice I think (the sauce looked flavorful, and my friend can't eat gluten which they accommodate on their menu). My husband got the 8 oz Roseda Farms Filet Mignon (topped with herb butter and served with baked potato & sauteed green beans) and I got the Broiled Seafood Sampler with (1) broiled 10 oz. Crabcake, (3) Scallops, (3) Shrimp topped with a lemon butter sauce, served with island rice & bacon cranberry Brussels sprouts. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The scallops were fresh, succulent, and large. The jumbo shrimp were cooked just right, seasoned well, and the Crab cake was truly colossal. It definitely looked larger than 10 oz. I used to work at a crab house which has been around since the 1950's and this crab cake was probably my favorite! Very little to no filler, jumbo lump meat. I hope it's fresh and local from the Eastern shore but if it was Indonesian crab meat it was still damn delicious. They have sweet tea which I got since I am not drinking alcohol. Might as well make up for the sugar in a different way, right? My friend ordered prosecco, my husband got rather drunk off of several IPAs, and my friend's husband ordered the Westminster and some other cocktails. We parked in the lot adjacent to the restaurant (metered spaces), or you can park on Main street (also meters) until 9 pm. Not sure if the owner Susan or the business partner Allison or a manager came by but a congenial blonde woman asked how our meal/experience was. I like a good table visit especially when things are great. It shows that small businesses care about their patrons and are aware of both positive and negative impacts on the front of house climate. We are planning to return in a few weeks for a birthday celebration for my mother. We'll bring our baby so we will arrive around the senior citizen dining hour. They also include the tip suggestions at the bottom which for non servers/cheap jerks is helpful. We split the check down the middle amongst us, ours was $ 116 plus 35 for tip. I went in for my birthday dinner. We ordered 1 dozen oysters to start.. didn't realize until the bill that we were paying $3+ per oyster, so we thought $40 for 12 raw oysters was a bit outrageous, not to mention they were poorly shucked. Moving along, my filet dinner was ordered at medium rare. It came out charred and medium well. We were told by the manager that this is what our house medium rare looks like. They offer a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees, many with seafood. The server is very good, even volunteering the special price. It's a busy and cozy place, and the bar is off the dining areas. They are accommodating, for example you can get a blackened dish without the spices as we have. The steak, crab cake, red snapper, carrots, green beans and rice were cooked perfectly. I asked for pink through the steak and got it. It's nice to have everything almost perfect, the baked potato was just a tad undercooked. My recommendation is a crab cake. read more

My brother-in-law said they had good seafood and knowing I love all things from the water we went for lunch. He had broiled scallops with carrots and potatoes. My sister had Alaskan salmon with the same veggies. They loved what they ordered. Not the same for me. I had fettuccine with 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, very little crabmeat, sun dried tomato sliced thin, in a tomato sauce. Menu listed it as a creamy tomato sauce. Not so. Large portion of pasta. The disappointment was that this would be better in a light sauce, even non-tomato base. The tomato overpowered the dish. Let's say I've had better elsewhere. Service was attentive so no complaints there. I live on the east end of Long Island and seafood is big there. Let's say I'm spoiled when it comes to seafood, fish, fresh veggies and fruit. We went here last night for our first time. We placed our appetizers (we got 2) and our dinners (for 2) at the same time. Our appetizers came out and they were very generous proportions for a great price. We had plenty of time to eat our appetizers without feeling rushed before our meals came out. Stopped in today for lunch with friends. The atmosphere was great and you can tell it's a popular place as it it filled up quickly after opening. The menu has enough variety for a non-seafood eater to enjoy with burgers, salads and sandwiches. The kids menu also provided a good selection for young diners. My only issue I would say was the fish in the fish and chips had so much batter that it didn't cook all the way through so close to the fish was still a little mush but overall the taste was fine. So disappointed in the staff and service at Rock Salt Grill. We have been there a number of times and have had good food and service. We went there last night and the staff, product, and service were horrendous! Without getting too much into cold food that needed to be replaced for other members of our dining party ... I ordered one of their salads that normally comes with pecans ... to which I am allergic. The server brought the salad out with nuts and I returned it. By the time the replacement was served the other 5 people in out party were about half way through their meal. The replacement was actually the same salad with the nuts removed from the top. Fortunately I discovered this before consuming and I informed the server who said that they had just removed the nuts from the top. The manager came out about 10 minutes later with a replacement salad but it didn't have the salmon on top and she told me to just take the now cold piece of fish that had been in the plate with the pecans and put it on top. It was a rather uncomfortable evening watching my friends eat their dinners "uncomfortably" knowing that I hadn't been served. I called back today because I was concerned about the staff's lack of concern of this safety issue and spoke with the manager on duty. I probably got the wrong guy on the phone ... because he seemed less interested in what I had to say then the staff that was on duty last night. Disappointing and dangerous! read more

Like so many, my review can only praise the 3 Seafood Clubs everyone ordered. I've tried this sandwich many places and this is the best at ANY price. The shrimp salad is made from full-size shrimp with loads of flavor; not over-spiced or salty. The crab cake is creamy and perfectly cooked. One of us ordered no bread, and the generous and delectable seafood portions were quite obvious on her plate. The club sandwich requires some serious disassembly to enjoy if you cannot detach your jaw. It is almost too pretty to eat; however, I always overcome the sentiment. The service was good and attentive. It often seems to get very, very busy and lines are the norm. They offer about 12 draft beers. Sadly, few were appealing to me. I'd like to see at least one decent German lager in place of one of the heavier IPAs, porters or stouts--especially, with a meal. You can expect a visit from an owner during your meal. It is a nice touch and a chance to Yelp in person. Enjoy the fish tacos too! read more

We also tried the cream of crab soup; also delicious. So far we were two for two. We wanted to try their baked oysters but my wife and I prefer our oysters on the smaller side. Our server, Sam S., said that he'd be the one shucking them for us so he would try to find smaller ones for our order. The oysters were prefect and tasty. One other thing that was out of this world were the rolls that we were given. They were warm and fluffy but, the best part was when you spread some of the honey butter on them................OMG. There are so many dishes that are great, I can't lost them all: fish tacos, seafood mac & cheese, crab cakes, crab pretzel, I could go on but you get the idea. Atmosphere can be a little echo-y. This is really only an issue for those with certain hearing issues that have trouble with eliminating background noise. However, I highly recommend, food and service make up for it. Sitting in the midst of Westminster MD is a popular place called RockSalt Grille. For a Monday it was packed. Lots of foot traffic coming and going. Should be an indicator of a good local eatery. Upon entry, the hostess was busy but accommodating. Decided to sit out on the front patio so I can check out the local scene as it goes by. Patio was small with 2 tables but gave a good view to the Main Street and sidewalk. It was a nice 72 degrees out which made for a comfortable patio experience. When in Maryland need to get the crab. So I did. Got a steak and cake. The crab cake was good, nice use of crabmeat with a remoulade style binder. Unfortunately the steak was over cooked and cooked on a 10&2 (mostly cooked on one side 10 min because it was forgotten then quickly flipped for at most 2 minute on the other side. Unevenly cooked) timer it seams. The beef was not all that fresh either. It didn't present bright beef colors of fresh meat. The accoutrements were a backed potato and buttered fresh carrots. The baked potato was a bit on the over done side and bordering getting old (more than 1hr hold time) the carrots resembled that they were probably microwaved (slightly rubbery) but definitely not pan sautéed as there were absolutely no sear marks nor were they warm at all. I would say the entree was not worth its $30 price tag (unless it was better prepared) The service was mediocre. No suggestive selling except for the basics (would you like an appetizer or would you like to see our dessert tray) Obviously the patio tables are an add on to a servers section and mostly forgotten about. Had to ask for steak knife a couple of times to be able to eat my steak. Coffee ran out and had to ask for more. A second glass of wine was offered only after I had finished the meal. The service doesn't present itself as one of a quality establishment. There is no focus on training staff for sure. The management I think was present but lacked the fortitude to recognize we were pretty much abandoned for the meal. The lady who I thought was the manager wouldn't even help the server process the payment for the bill. She did however serve the meals (had to auction off the food. (who gets xyz) and didn't know that a steak should have been served with a steak knife) I think this place could be an absolute goldmine if they focused on quality trained staff, attention to detail and quality fresh food. If I get back through here again, I might try it one more time just to make sure they just had a bad day. Overall it's a fairly mediocre experience and becoming a norm in the restaurant business for some reason. It's a shame it's going that way. Where has having passion for your job gone?? read more

The staff is attentive and service is great, seafood is fresh and delicious, happy hour prices are excellent with good options. The crab pretzel was pretty decent. Nothing spectacular. I had the crab cakes with great beans and red potatoes. Potatoes were a little undercooked but decent. Crab cakes were more than generous with their size and large lump meat inside. The other dish we got was the Crazy Steve burger. Which was a crab cake on a burger. It was delicious. Highly recommend. I really enjoy Rock Salt. Considering it's location . It has great seafood offerings. The Bloody Mary rocks! The atmosphere is pretty nice. If you park in the street, fold your side view mirrors in, but they do have a parking lot around back.
