Wanted to try getting some pickup from here since I saw it had good reviews and I was in the area! The inside decor is a little dark. I was greeted and helped immediately when I walked in and the service was friendly. I ordered the fried chicken platter with hush puppies and coleslaw and a side of greens. I also ordered two sauces but was disappointed to find none in my bag :( The chicken was HUGE and the batter was delicious, but a little salty. The hush puppies weren't as crisp as I would've liked, and I couldn't tell if they were house-made or just frozen. The coleslaw sauce was mild but good, but it got all over my platter and made the food soggy. The greens were a little bitter, but not intolerable. Honestly my main complaints are the missing sauce (I'm a huge sauce person), and the inconsistent seasoning. Some things were too salty while others were a bit bland. It was pretty good overall though, and there was more than enough food for lunch the next day. I was put onto Collision Course by some locals -- they swore by it -- so I had to check it out. I ordered shrimp and egg rolls, with mac & cheese and collard greens on the side, plus some sauce to go with the shrimp. Let's start with the egg rolls -- these were filled with BBQ chicken and done just right. Not too hard, not too soft... perfect texture and flavor. Big fan. The shrimp were good overall. I personally would've liked a little more seasoning, but once I paired them with the sauce, it all came together nicely. Now the sides? The mac & cheese was very good, and the collard greens were on point -- and most importantly, not overloaded with stems (huge win for me ). They do have indoor seating, but I'd recommend making a reservation if you're going with a group. Parking is available right in front, but it looked a little limited, so that's something to keep in mind. The customer service was solid, and the music playing in the background gave the place a great vibe. Collision course was amazing. First I would suggest make a reservation. You may think you don't need to but you do. Came on a Sunday at 3pm and it was a35 minute wait but it was worth it. The appetizer pork shanks were some of the best I've ever had. So delicious, so perfect. Enough to fill me up and I was surprised by that. The beverages were yummy but not enough to really hit me. Got the three birds and the purple reign. More moonshine! The music was playing a lot of fun 90s r&b. It was darker inside too. No outside light because of the tint in the glass. From start to finish, our evening at Collision Course was absolutely outstanding. We began with the BBQ Chicken Egg Rolls ($13), and they were incredible, crispy on the outside, filled with smoky and flavorful barbecue chicken, melted cheese, and the perfect blend of seasoning. Paired with the dipping sauce, they were the perfect start to our meal. My wife ordered the Lollipop Pork Ribs with macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes ($22). The ribs were tender and beautifully seasoned, and the baked macaroni and cheese with smoked gouda was pure comfort in a bowl. The sweet potatoes rounded out the plate and created a wonderful southern-inspired meal. I had the Grilled Chicken ($21), three generous portions perfectly seasoned and charred, served with Grandma's Greens and Potato Salad. The sauce options were great, and the Caribbean sauce added just the right amount of kick. We each enjoyed a glass of Merlot, and the experience was made even better by the incredible service. Tony, the owner, came to check on us several times, genuinely excited to hear what we thought of the food. Our server, Aubrey, radiated pride and enthusiasm from the moment we sat down. She welcomed us as if we were guests in her own home, offering helpful suggestions and substitutions with a big smile. The warmth, hospitality, and incredible food at Collision Course make it a true gem in Westminster. If it were possible to give fifteen stars, they would deserve every one. Had an enjoyable lunch with the family recently! Would definitely come back. The inside is a little tight, so we opted to eat outside where there was a nice blend of sun and shade. Our waiter was a little spacey, but friendly and happy to recommend various items. We got two starters: Hush Puppies and the 'Bro'schetta. Child #3 demolished the sweet chili dipping sauce for the hush puppies and I agree; solid sauce for those little nuggets. The 'Bro'schetta was alright. It's not clear on the menu that it's served with chips, rather than baguette slices (like one would expect from a bruschetta), which was still good, just not what we expected. The dip itself was heavy on the beans and corn, so despite the grilled peaches and roasted red peppers, it read more as chips and salsa. Again, not bad, but I'm not sure I'd get it again. Child #1 got a grilled cheese and fries. No complaints from him. Child #2 got the Mac n' Cheese with fried chicken bits on top. He seemed to like it all, though wasn't able to put it all away. My wife got the "Kill Bill" Salad - several pieces of fried buffalo chicken atop a house salad. I was impressed by how well-fried the chicken was. Nice crust with plenty of craggily bits to hold onto the buffalo sauce, which they did not skimp on. The few bites I tried were delicious. I got the Pork Wings platter, which is essentially the same as the appetizer, but it came with two sides. Overall it was fine. The meat was tender and the Caribbean sauce was a nice mix of sweet and heat; I just wish there had been a bit more of the sauce. The sides were fine, but nothing too impressive. The apple slaw had a slight sweetness, but it was basically a cabbage slaw with a touch of apple. The vegetables of the day were tossed with bit of salt and honey. The broccoli had a nice char, but the carrots an cauliflower were more standard steamed. They have some beers (only two on tap), but their main focus with alcoholic options is moonshine cocktails. My wife got the "Knockin' Boots" which was a delightful peach lemonade mixed with moonshine. It was delightful. I got the Elderberry Yum Yum, which was also a lemonade but with a purple elderberry infusion. Also quite nice. There were a few cocktails named in honor of Mildred and Richard Loving (if you don't know that history, educate yourself!), which the restaurant alludes to in some of their other art as well, citing it as paving the way for them. Holy moley, Collision Course was so fun! When we arrived, there was about a half hour wait, and we didn't have that much time. However, we offered seats at the bar, and that was perfect for us. Service was top notch. The chef came out and talked with us about the jackfruit options-- I had ordered the bbq jackfruit mac and cheese. It did not disappoint! It's so rare that a fun place like this has good vegetarian options, so when we found it, we just had to try it. On top of great food, there are so many drinks to try! Collision Course absolutely delivered. We ordered the shrimp and grits, the Kill Bill salad, and the BBQ chicken egg rolls, and every dish hit. The shrimp and grits were outstanding, creamy, cheesy grits with just the right consistency. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, tender with great flavor, and the dish had a light touch of broth that brought everything together without overpowering it. The mix of red onions and green onions really made the dish and added just the right balance. The Kill Bill salad was fantastic. Two whole chicken breasts, fried crispy and golden, sitting on a fresh, well-balanced salad. The chicken was juicy on the inside with a great crunch. definitely not an afterthought "salad chicken." The BBQ chicken egg rolls were another standout. Crispy on the outside, creamy and flavorful on the inside, and paired with a delicious sauce that complemented them perfectly. I was inspired to come here because WBAL did a "Sunday Brunch" food segment on this Restaurant. The Presentation shown on TV was not the same, although; the Service was VERY welcoming. We arrived on a Saturday evening 3hrs before closing. The Restaurant was out of many food items which left - not a fair amount of options to choose from. The Menu is Soul / Caribbean. Our Server was super sweet and attentive. The Owner "Tony" was very engaging and nice. The Music gave off a cool vibe. Overall, hubby and I had a nice experience. My wife and I stopped in for the first time this evening. I had been reading all of the positive reviews and wanted to try it for myself. I must say that I was very impressed from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the host to the final taste of my Island Bowl. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. She made several recommendations and we tried a few. The food was exceptional. It was very flavorful amd more than adequate portions. We started with the Honey Cornbread and the Thai Chile wings. The cornbread was very moist and flavorful. I highly recommend. The Wings were very good and possibly the largest wings I have ever been served in a restaurant. These two appetizers would have been enough food for me. For the main courses, we ordered the Island Bowl and the Kill Bill salad. We thoroughly enjoyed both entrees. The Island Bowl was served over a base of delicious grits. When we were finished, we had the opportunity to meet the owner and chef. He was very nice and gracious. Not only do they provide wonderful service, staff, and amazing cuisine, they are beautiful people on the inside as well. Family First philosophy is prominent and welcomed. My mom was in town visiting and we decided to explore new places. I am kicking myself that I didn't get to Collision Course sooner! I had Mom's Dinner - complete with blackened fish topped with shrimp parmesan dip. I was able to choose two sides, so I went with collards and mac & cheese. The portion was healthy, especially for the price. My mom was adventurous and tried the Jack Fruit sandwich. Worth a try! She also enjoyed a side of mac & cheese. And, finally, our server, Isela, provided extra care. She informed us that she had only started the week before, but you would have never known it! Caroline and I found time to have a wonderful dinner at Collision Course, on Friday, October 25, 2024 - just days after its 'soft opening.'. The restaurant looks wonderful. Our server, Jahna, was super friendly, attentive, and it was fun to talk with her. Our dinners were superb. I had the grits with Cajun red peppers and onions, bacon crumbles, green onions, and blackened grilled fish. I am a serious grits aficionado, and I loved my dinner. Caroline had the 'soul bowl.' It was a dinner with creamy mac and cheese, topped with sweet potatoes, collard greens, and pulled pork. Caroline is a serious foodie, and she loved her dinner. (She watches all the cooking shows on TV.) It appears that our friends Ashley and Tony Gerald have hit a home run by bringing another great downtown destination to Westminster - a city that is already well known for great dining. Parking was easy to find. We parked in the Diffendal Parking Lot - across the street. The restaurant is family friendly, well-lit and well-appointed. It is wheelchair accessible. Locally owned by two wonderful owners that give back to the community. For a restaurant that is just getting off the ground, everything was perfect. The server was great. A must-visit local gem! My family took me here for dinner on Friday and we left full and satisfied! Service: we were seated right away and they have high chairs available for the little ones. The staff was friendly and we got a visit from the owners, who were kind and took the extra effort to engage with customers! Our waitress may have been new b/c she didn't check up on us often, refilled drinks, and messed up our order. Food: they offer a kids menu and are family friendly. Overall, the food was good but some menu items could be done better. The fried chicken is a "must try". The collard greens were spot on. The grilled fish was ok but some parts had too much seasoning salt making some bites really salty. I wouldn't order or recommend the fish. We noticed the same issue with the nacho fries, some parts were too salty. The ambiance was cool! They had oldies playing in the background and fun trivia about the restaurant playing on the tv. The drizzle of balsamic gives the salad a savory kick and the sauce from the chicken was smoky and sweet. This super cool restaurant is tucked away on Main Street in Westminster. We've been for brunch and dinner and both were excellent. The hush puppies are amazing, shrimp and grits did not disappoint, but the Mac bowl with Caribbean chicken is probably my favorite. Fantastic first experience at this new Westminster restaurant. The menu seems sized right and well thought out. My wife had the Caribbean style blackened fish with sweet potatoes and collard greens. I had a grits bowl with blackened fish. Both were over the top good. The blackening used was the perfect balance of heat and flavor, and the fish were cooked to perfection. I had the dark ale on tap which was very good. My wife enjoyed a tasty Raspberry Beret cocktail. The industrial look ambience works and they did not sacrifice comfort to get there. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a gift certificate while there to give as a Christmas present. Collision course is a welcome and much needed addition to the dining options in Westminster. Taking classics like "Cheesy Grits" and making a whole menu item called "& Grits", with different proteins to choose from (vegetarian options available for some dishes as well, this one you can get Cajun Veggie or Jackfruit as the protein). They are always trying out new dishes and adding what works. For as small as the restaurant is, it has got a ton of personality, great staff, and their menu is huge considering how much food needs to be stored to even make half these dishes, yet they still find a way to give a diverse menu with options for most people. They are making things work with what they have and in my opinion, I feel like they have hit this out of the park. ** In Depth Review ** Ever since my wife and I found out about Collision Course (when they were starting do brunch a couple years ago, while they waiting for the main restaurant to finish being built), we have been trying their food at all chances we have been able to. We have never been disappointed, and that goes for our time at the main restaurant off the main street this week during the preview event. The food is great. They love taking normal dishes and finding a way to put a spin on them, in the line of Southern Fusion cooking. My favorite example is the dish "& Grits" bowl. Instead of doing a traditional style Shrimp and Grits dish, instead they let you get the same loved grits with Silky Cheddar Grits Topped with Cajun Red Peppers & Onions, Bacon Crumbles, Green Onions and Light Broth with your choice of Protein (Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Chicken, Blackened Grilled Fish, Cajun Veggie, or Jackfruit. They are taking a single dish and making it accessible for all kinds of people to try out, which I love to see. My wife got the "& Grits" bowl, and I got the Fried Fish meal with Chessy Grits and Sweet Fries. Neither my wife and I or overly huge into fish, which is why we tried it. We figure if someone can make a dish we like, with a food item we aren't crazy about, then the rest of the menu is an easy win for our business for future trips. If you can make people like dishes they typically don't, then the rest of the menu will become favorites over time, or that is how I feel about it. We both were very impressed with the cooking and flavoring of the fish. The seasoning was heavy enough to bring a unique flavoring to the fish, without overpowering the dish or the rest of the fish. The cook was perfect as well, considering I had a thin piece of fish that was being fried, yet it came out flaky and moist with a nice crisp on the outside layer. Oh right, drinks. So, my wife and I got a few mixed drinks to try out tonight. We had the "The Blueprint", "It's a Vibe", and "Purple Rain". All three drinks were good, but our favorite was "It's A Vibe". They also have a small beer and wine list, so there are drinks for everyone. Wish the space to store everything, they do their best to provide options for all types of guests. Keeping in mind that we came on Preview night, and the restaurant staff is still in training, they still did a great job. They were always polite and accommodating to any requests we had. With the layout of the restaurant, it was easy for them to see which of their tables needed help and which were good. Anytime they ran into an issue they were unable to figure it out, they were very polite in explaining the situation and then quickly got a resolution to the problem. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very calming and nice during the day, and quite moody in a romantic, yet I can just chill and enjoy my food vibe with the way the lights dim to the red walls of the interior. They have an awesome custom metal art piece that is just waiting for lights to be installed, that is so cool. Personally, if you can't tell, I am a fan and will be a customer moving forward. My recommendation is to at least give them a try if any of the items on the menu look good to you. They still do Brunch on the weekends when they have time at River downs golf course, and they do lunch Mon-Fri over a tech court in Westminster, MD.
