Been here many times . So this experience was not the normal 5 star. Ordered cream of crab for the appetizer. Seemed watery and very little crab meant in the soup. Kinda disappointed. Service was a little slow and we were here before dinner rush . We arrived about 4:00 . Dinner was good I tried the tour of Italy. Was good. My grandson said finger licking good lol.

Wonderful meal! This was my first time at this restaurant and I can definitely tell you it won't be my last. Great food, wonderful service, and not too loud. I could certainly hear my date and we didn't have to talk too loudly. If you come here definitely make a reservation because otherwise you're going to wait a while, and even with a reservation we still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. The portions are really big here. The calamari appetizer was huge and could have fed 4-6 people. I ask our server for her thoughts on three dishes and on her recommendation got the Seafood Fra Diablo. It had a little kick to it but it was very good and huge! It didn't even seem like I had made a dent in it and took so much home I had two meals. The salad and breadsticks were also delicious. I didn't know about the salad or else I might not have ordered the calamari. Way too full for dessert, though the cakes and pies in the case in the back looked delicious. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend you to take a trip out here as well to enjoy such delicious food and drink.

    Angel Hair with Basil Pesto

Ordered angel hair with basil pesto and this is what they gave me. This is clearly some type of Alfredo and was not labeled appropriately. Pesto typically includes pine nuts, olive oil, lemon juice, Parmesan, and basil. Cream should NEVER be added unless you label it PESTO ALFREDO. I'd be happy to show the chef how to make it. I have tried so many dishes from Fratelli's and have never had anything even close to Italian.

Insist on Colter as your Server! You will be happy!

What a great anniversary dinner. I'm living in a Hallmark Movie! After living in California and Texas, I moved back to Maryland after 54 years, and married my High School and College Sweetheart. We wanted to celebrate our First Anniversary. We chose Fratelli's in Hampstead, having eaten at the one in Middletown a year ago. It was fantastic. Our Server, Colter, was engaging and perfect in his attentiveness. My wife had the Lobster Ravioli with Vodka Sauce. Prepared with lump crab and shrimp on top. Delightful in every aspect. I had the Veal Parmigiana prepared in the traditional design with a generous side of Spaghetti Marinara. I ate every morsel. As a surprise, Colbert brought out a slice of Chocolate Spoon Cake. So rich that we hated leaving a few bites on the plate, (it was decadent). We had a full carafe of the House Merlot, and it was excellent. We were shocked at the total bill, and double checked to make sure they hadn't missed anything. We've spent more on lunch! I hope that you have as great an experience as we had last Saturday at a 4:30 seating. You're in for a treat. May I suggest that you make reservations for as early as possible. You'll be glad you did. Of course we will be back soon... way too many items on the menu that we want to try out. A great place for happy people.

    pasta side with chicken piccata

In sleepy Hampstead, an Italian restaurant is a formidable contender for serving the best crab cake in the Baltimore area. That's really saying something, as I consider myself a crab cake connoisseur. Large crab cake broiled to perfection with no discernable filler. Super fresh with just a hint of seasoning so the crab flavor really shines through. Once you see it and eat it, the $35 (with perfectly roasted potatoes and several spears of asparagas) will seem almost a bargain. The menu otherwise has a large and versatile array of Italian and other favorites, prepared with care bordering on perfection. Service is superb and prices fair for what you get. Our lunch for two (my wife had the chicken piccata), came with a large, tasty sald bowl to share and butter-coated warm rolls to die for (arguable iterally if one would give in to temptation). Crab cake platter, chicken piccata platter, with the salad and rolls, and tweo soft drinks, set us back $74 with taxes and tip. Within 50 miles of this place, Fratelli's should be on your radar.

My brother and I wanted something for lunch after going to a car swap meet. We landed on Rock Salt Grille. I'd eaten there several times before. We arrived at 11:45 AM (Saturday) and there was a 30 minute wait, so we grabbed two comfortable seats at the bar. A good call. I had the Rock Salt Oysters, broiled with bacon and parmigiana. Delightful. I also had the cream of, and Maryland crab, soup combination. My brother had the crab cake sandwich. I'd had it before, but wanted the oysters. His crab cake sandwich was double the size of any I'd ever seen, without exaggeration. He guessed it was 8 ounces or more, without exaggeration, with no visible filler, (Broiled). I had a few beers and we split the Bread pudding with Grand Marnier sauce. It was enough for four. The bar and food service was spectacular with "tag teaming" to make sure we didn't wait for anything. I'd like to thank the bartenders who served us perfectly: Kelsey and Nikkea. Award winners. Rock Salt is not inexpensive, but the quality of the food and the great service justify the premium. I'll be back more often

The signature disk was and perhaps still is the Seafood club. Which for this who don't know is a club sandwich with a small crab cake, scoop of shrimp as ok ad on a BLT. It use to cost somewhere around $25 and was a pretty good option at that price. Yesterday when I visited the prices were all inflated $40 for the same sandwich. I mean seriously ... didn't order it. Won't order it. What a ripoff ... Anyway we had the potato skins which were pretty traditional... cheese, bacon, scallions. Except rather than sour cream they offer some other sauce they call Rock Salt Sauce. I asked what it was and the bartender told me it was kind of like BBQ sauce. I passed on that and got the sour cream. They were perfectly acceptable as an app for the price. They did deliver a side cup of that sauce and it was terrible. It tasted like someone poured ketchup, Worcestershire, honey and some other stuff in a bowl for laughs. Another option that was shocking was steamed shrimp. $16 for half a pound or $32 per pound. C'mon ... Shrimp are inexpensive $10 or so a pond for some really nice size shrimp per pound. Why don't you just serve them with a side of vasoline? For dinner I got thru House burger. It's supposed to be a 1/2 burger with bacon, onion ring, cheddar cheese, and more of that special house sauce. I asked her to give me the burger, cheese, bacon , onion, and mayo. With NO RockSalt sauce. The make bartender said that it might come anyway because the kitchen guys do whatever they want. I had the fries with it. What I got was a 1/4 burger tops, I mean 4 bites tops. What's worse is it came with lettuce, tomato, on it beyond the stuff I ordered. Further they included a cup of the dreaded sauce and it had spilled and saturated about a 3rd of my French fries. The barmaid knew I was frustrated over it and helped with some bar napkins . My wife got the Salmon sandwich. It came with what seemed like 4-5 slices of bacon while my burger had 1 slice made into an X on top of the cheese. Anyway ... she said hers was okay. Anyway :... my 2 cents. The pricing really is outrageous. And instruct the kitchen to follow the instructions and if the customer doesn't want the dam Rock Salt sauce then don't put it on the plate. Wastes product that isn't going to be consumed and only bad things can happen with it on the way to the table. I honestly don't see any reason to go back. Probably won't be long before the main stream crowd starts to turn to other options.

We had MD crab, cream of crab, and scallops wrapped in bacon for appetizer. All excellent! My soft crab sandwich and side of onion rings all cooked to perfection. My friends had shrimp and grits and stuffed rockfish, both meals exquisite. For dessert lemon tart and the chocolate peanut butter cake. Yum, the only thing that could have made that better was a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Kudos for using a local company for their desserts, Bertuccos Bakery and giving them credit on the menu. Love it, supporting other Carroll County businesses. To top of the entire evening we had Blake as our server, the absolute % best. From the introduction, use of beverage napkins under our drinks, clearing of dirty dishes, and to the dry humor he engaged us with us throughout the evening. Thank you! Built in 1776, it has been a family home, the first classical school west of the Susquehanna River, a stop on the Underground Railroad, and even a Civil War field hospital. Today, you can grab an incredible meal while surrounded by centuries of history. If you go, eat in the basement tavern. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. I kicked things off with the Baked King's Onion Soup, loaded with perfectly toasted cheese and a surprise twist--shredded beef that took it to another level. I followed that with the Spit Roasted Chicken Dinner, roasted the old-fashioned way over an open fire until the skin was perfectly crisp while the meat stayed juicy and tender. Because apparently I arrived with the appetite of all 19 Dobbin kids, I also ordered the Dobbin's Hot Beef Sandwich. Tender roast beef on a buttery brioche roll with rich au jus for dipping? Absolutely demolished it. Then came the roast beef club with Swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, plus not one... but two sides of potato salad. Pro tip: dip the potato salad into the onion soup. You're welcome. The Dobbin House proves that great food never goes out of style. They say you can't eat history... but after this meal, I'm pretty sure I did. If these walls could talk, they'd probably tell me to slow down next time.

There is also a covered deck outside where you can sit and have your meal as well. The plastic bucket in the middle of the table was meant to be the communal waste can for discarded crab shells, shrimp skins, paper trash, etc. I guess it was a handy thing to have if you're eating crabs but kind of disgusting if you're not. I'd prefer NOT to have to look at the discarded remains of my fellow dining partners meals. My girlfriend and I each ordered wine; she a White Zinfandel and for myself a Pinot Grigio. Both were such an inexpensive version and so sickeningly sweet that we both winced when we took a sip. Hubby was happy with his Stella on tap. It's more of a beer place. My friend and I split an appetizer of peel and eat shrimp. They really were delicious and were more than just Old Bay Seafood seasoning; there was just something that made them really tasty. I tried one of her hush puppies and it was probably the best hush puppy I've ever eaten. My Crab Imperial was OK. It wasn't creamy. It was kind of chunky which was a little bit offputting. I'm not sure what type of crab was used‍The baked potato was way overcooked and had so much butter on it that I couldn't taste the potato. It was just a mushy greasy mess. Our salads came in such small plastic bowls that mine tipped over the first time I put my fork inside. My hubby's fish was outstanding and my girlfriend's husband gobbled up his dinner, so I'm assuming it was really good as well. Overall, it was ok ... I didn't feel it lived up to all the good reviews that it has gotten.
