Visited RockSalt Grille on a Saturday evening. We were seated in about 15 minutes. The food was very good. Not sure if the waiter was new but the service was just adequate. Had to ask two or three times for several things. Ordered soup, that again we had to ask for after dinner was delivered. He never checked on us after dinner was delivered. Our water glass remained empty until he came to ask if we wanted dessert and then only filled one of the three saying he would come back to refill the other two (never happened). He brought the dessert tray and then just left it on our table as he waited on other tables. Overall food is good and will go back but hopefully will get a different waiter. read more

We went here last night for the first time ever. The food is good, better seafood than anywhere else around. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes and a half dozen oysters as appetizers. The tomatoes were out in about 5-7 minutes. They're pretty good, came with a sprinkle of lump crab and lemon butter. Our waitress, Jessica, cleared the plates when we were finished and told us our food will be out in a few minutes. After about five minutes she's walking by and my husband asked her about the oysters. She went somewhere and came back, told us that the person handling the raw bar was having a hard time with the shells. By now it's been about 15-20 minutes since we ordered. I told my husband she forgot to ring them in, no way there was a problem for THAT long opening the shells. Finally Jessica brought the oysters and they were excellent. Then our food came. The crab cake dinner and stuffed rockfish. Both very good, my only complaint is the sides. The sides are definitely lacking in flavor. Very blah. We finished our dinner and Jessica brought over boxes without us asking for them, which I like. There was a lot of food left. She asked if we wanted dessert, we did not. We had drinks left to finish. She put our check on the table and said she would take it when we were ready. I then asked for coffee and my husband asked for an espresso. This is my favorite part of the night. Jessica told us that my husband couldn't have an espresso because it takes THIRTY MINUTES for the machine to heat up. At this point it's about 8:30 so they are cutting the floor staff and someone had the job of turning the machine off. They already turned it off and it apparently takes a long time to heat back up. Jessica then went into a big speech about the machine just got back from the repair shop and the repairman told the restaurant if they want it to continue working to let it heat up for thirty minutes before they use it for any drinks. At one point during her unnecessary story about the espresso machine she said it could take up to an hour to heat up. I worked in restaurants for fourteen years and I was laughing at the obvious lie. Espresso machines do not take thirty minutes to heat up. Jessica just wanted to leave. Just be honest. She forgot the oysters, but lied and said it was a shell problem. She wanted us to leave so lied and said the espresso machine wouldn't heat up quickly. The food, excellent. The service? I've had better. I won't be going back anytime soon after last night. If I'm just rating the food I give five stars for sure. But the service brings it down to three, and that's being generous. Edited to add: Last night was our twelve year anniversary. We get a sitter for our four kids maybe twice per year and when we do we like to take our time and enjoy each other's company. After thinking more about the experience last night I am positive we will not be returning. If a seafood restaurant needs 25 minutes to open six oysters, there's a problem. If a restaurant closes down their espresso machine before close, there's a problem. If they want to close it down, fine, but don't tell patrons it takes thirty minutes to heat up. That's insulting to my intelligence. Our bill was $139 and I would rather give that money and my business elsewhere. read more

Visually, the restaurant looked appealing. Nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was really slow. We were there for over 2 hours. The old bay ranch salad dressing was really good, but food was overpriced and not great. My father's salmon came out raw and the rest of our dinners were incredibly dry. It seemed like maybe our food was ready but they realized they forgot the salmon, prepared it quickly? Either way, really bad first experience. For a really nice dinner out, there is little competition for this restaurant in Carroll County. Plenty of places to "eat" few places to "dine". And it is not just the well prepared great food, this fine dining also treats its patrons to exceptional service by experienced staff. That is such a rarity these days, it should almost have its own Gold Star added to the ratings. The Old Bay Onion Rings were very tasty. Salty as you would expect of anything seasoned with Old Bay. The Ranch Dipping was a perfect pairing. The Steamed PEI Mussels were done perfectly. Their broth was light and the pairing with Pita wedges was spot on. Our dinners were equally wonderful. Pan seared Scallops were "perfect". Veggies, perfectly cooked. Shrimp and Ribs...perfect. For once, we were not mad when the bill came. For once, the food was worth price. For once, we did not leave grousing we could have made that better at home for less than half the cost. If you are looking for a nice dinner out on the town with exceptional service and food, RockSalt Grille is the place for you. As if all of that was not good enough, I have to give a shout out to manager who stopped by, checked in, and was thoroughly engaged. All to often they blow past doing the obligatory "how is everything" while showing through body language that they really don't care. Not the case here. Lunch yesterday with one of my friends who is back in town for a few days! Always try to have as much Maryland crab as possible while visiting! Unfortunately, we never got a chance to taste the food. You can't make reservations. When we arrived we asked for outdoor seating. We were told we could split our party and sit right away or wait 30 minutes and be seated together. We said we would wait and they said they would call when the table was ready. Five minutes later someone else called and said if we wanted to sit outdoors it would have to be at the high seats at the bar. That was not acceptable because one in our party has physical disabilities that means they can't get into the high chair. He said you can sit inside. We said we weren't comfortable with inside sitting because of Covid. He laughed at that. Our grand daughter had recently had a 16 hour open heart surgery so that's why we were trying to be as safe as possible. His comment and lack of concern were not acceptable. Went in with my ID from another country instead of just trying to look if it was even real they just insist that it doesnt matter... if you are a tourist or in the country to work you SHOULD have the right to order with your ID! RockSalt is a welcome addition to Westminster. It's a class above the mostly chain restaurants in town. On our first visit I tried the stuffed rockfish. The crab imperial was delicious, but the fish had an unpleasant aroma, and the taste was kind of bland. The side dishes were very good. The waitresses here are very pleasant, which is a huge plus at any restaurant. I had to wait 5 minutes for my empty glass to be refilled, but that happens sometimes not a big deal. The reason for the 3 stars is mainly the location and the size of this restaurant. Westminster used to be a small town and a restaurant named Harry's used to be here. It was a place that served hotdogs for lunch and delicious ribs for dinner. Harry's expanded the size of the restaurant about 15 years ago, but the new layout didn't add a lot of tables. Harry's tried to become an upscale restaurant, but the poor service didn't make up for their higher prices, so it closed. RockSalt has brought their A-game with a good menu and quality service, but Westminster has grown and the parking here is really bad. Their parking lot is in the rear of the restaurant and only accessible by a narrow alley. It has parking for about 24 cars and it fills up before 5pm, and the parking is very tight. As for the restaurant, we stopped by for our second visit last week. We were early and the restaurant was half empty, but we were told we'd have to wait 10-15 minutes. Half of the restaurant's seating was being reserved for a special event. It's a small restaurant to begin with, so taking away half of the tables during dinner service is not a good idea. We waited, but I doubt we'll return. The food and service has been good, but having to park 2 blocks away and wait 15 minutes for a table when half of the tables are empty is kind of annoying. If you don't mind the parking issues and the wait times it's a very nice restaurant. read more

When making a reservation on a Saturday night for 8 people the hostess was extremely accomodating. The food was great, loved the riptide shrimp which resembles a bang bang shrimp and the fresh ahi tuna. My neighbor and have a favorite of the rock salt martini. Above all the driving force is our server Stephen. He was awesome! He had enthusiasm, character and a energy that made us feel welcome and fun! We can't say enough good things about him. Went there today with a friend for lunch. Got the seafood club sandwich. The crab cake portion was good. The shrimp salad on the bottom was so saturated with mayo/oil that it was inedible. Told the server but she didn't appear to care when she offered a box and I gave her the feedback. Inattentive staff. Gave this place a 3rd try. Disappointed at best. This is a relatively new restaurant in Westminster. Their main menu is seafood specializing in crab, I ordered the lump jumbo crab cake which was very good it was steaming hot, my daughter got the crabcake sandwich which she said was delicious. The Decor is very dark and with being a new restaurant I was very surprised to see paint peeling off the walls and the floor was dirty. Our server was excellent she brought refills without us asking which is a big thing for us . Iwould definitely go here again and I recommend it if you're visiting Westminster read more

Rock Salt is my new favorite restaurant!! It's a seafood place but serves a variety of other food for those who aren't in the mood for seafood. I've been in there a few times now and the food has been consistently great!! Especially the crab cakes. And boy do I love crab cakes. They are the best around. And I mean anywhere. The service is very friendly and prompt. The prices are reasonable and they serve Coke products!! I would recommend this lovely dining spot to anyone and have recommended it to several of our friends. I've been here two separates times, once during restaurant week and once to celebrate a birthday. This restaurant has many pros over cons! The ambiance and decor are really nice and I love how each room has it's own vibe. I've sat in the rear dining room and outside on the back patio. The service was great both times and the servers were very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. My best memory is how HUGE the portions are! You will most likely be walking out with leftovers. Although their prices are a little high in my opinion, you get a decent serving of food. With their complimentary bread, they service it with both a regular butter and a sweet cinnamon sugar butter which trumps the Texas Roadhouse butter! I would highly recommend trying this place out if you're a seafood lover looking for a local place that does it right. The service was very good and the food was tasty. There was an issue with what is listed on the online menu not matching the menu you received at the restaurant. Apparently they recently changed the in-house menu without updating the web-site. The most disappointing thing was the noise! It was very hard to hold a conversation with anyone at the table due to the noise volume. Unfortunately, this is NOT the place for a quiet, relaxing dinner. An underwhelming experience that was over-priced for the quality of what was served. We dined here Sunday evening 9/10/17. It was moderately busy though by no means packed. There was no wait time to be seated throughout our visit. Our server was great, though she seemed to be one of only two servers that were working their tails off. At times 3 or 4 other servers were congregating near the front door with plenty of time to carry on their conversations. By the time our server got to us just to get a drink order (about 10 minutes after being seated) we had long since decided on an appetizer and our meals. Thankfully she took our full order all at once. We ordered the Crab Dip appetizer which was delivered to us on the long end of an acceptable wait. The Crab Dip was excellent and was truly the highlight of the whole meal. There was a good 30 minute wait between when we finished the appetizer and when our meals arrived. I had the Seafood Parma Rosa. The tomato cream sauce was very salty and did not taste fresh at all. The fettucine was way overdone and chewy, however the shrimp and scallops the dish contained were great, perfectly grilled and flavorful. The dish was also listed as containing crab but I could hardly find any. Definitely not worth $23.00. My dinner guest ordered the Atlantic Stuffed Rockfish which arrived so overcooked that it appeared as if it had a dark balsamic glaze on it. Our server even commented about it looking overdone but my guest said it was fine. A few moments later my guest realized that his meal was supposed to be served with red potatoes and lemon butter carrots but instead it had arrived with island rice and green beans, which are supposed to be the sides for a different entree (the Mango Grouper). He said that the sides were good however they were not as complementary to the overcooked Rockfish as the carrots and potatoes would have been. We pointed this out to our server who then called the manager over. The response was that there was a new person working in the kitchen. He offered to bring out the potatoes and carrots but it had already taken so long to get the food and then to get our server's attention to report the mishap that he declined the offer. In our opinion the manager really should have offered some other form of minimal compensation, a drink or a dessert. By that time our meal was all but over so replacing the sides wasn't really an option, and by not offering something else you're asking us to pay full price for a mistake that a new staff member made. It wasn't a huge mistake in and of itself but taken into consideration that it arrived on a plate where the main course was so overdone that the server just point blank asked if it was acceptable as is, it just didn't leave a very favorable impression. For the prices of the entrees at RockSalt anything less than great isn't acceptable. We loved the atmosphere here and our server (who we never saw standing idle, even when some of her co-workers walked around like they were bored) was wonderful. If we ever do decide to try it again it would be lunch or just a sandwich, but we're in no rush to return. At $72.00 for an appetizer, two meals, and soft drinks, plus a $20 tip, we definitely did not get our money's worth food wise. read more
