I had an outstanding experience, earlier today, when I went to Rockside Dental in Tucson, I believe (?) they are located on Silverbell Avenue. Recently, i have been having some pain with one particular tooth area. The office staff members were friendly, polite and helpful! I then had a dental consult with (I believe) his name is Dr. Jackson. What a great experience! The doctor listened to the explanation for my visit. He then proceeded to let me know that my particular dental situation requires a visit to a different type of dental specialist, and he said that he would be happy to refer me to such a specialist. Dentists and hygienists are great. Book keeping is terrible. No communication. No bills sent at all. Then suddenly a $4000 bill! Husband needed a lot of dental work. We understood we paid our share as we went along for amount insurance didn't cover. When we asked what happened we were told insurance didn't pay. That's not true. Checked thru paperwork they gave us. All insurance payments were made. Office has no way to assign payment to a claim. I just think they are excessively expensive read more

I scheduled my new patient appointment June 2023, they did not have availability until Feb 2024, scheduler took down my insurance and said she would add me to the waitlist in case someone canceled earlier. I call the day of my appt to verify the time and they said I wasn't on the schedule! She indicated they could see me for my X-rays but didn't have cleanings until Sept 2024!! Found this office in my Marana neighborhood soon after their initial opening. It did take a minute to get a hygiene appt, but where can one get in to a hygienist anytime they want? I took appt for X-rays & exam for a couple weeks out. 2 days prior I called to ask if cancelations occur in the same day please call me. Turns out I got my teeth cleaned as well. Friendly and professional. The business office is very on top of the insurance game and know my benefit allowance before my arrival. About a month ago I had a 10 year old veneer decide to let go. It was off to left side of my smile and wasn't really noticeable. My decision was I would take care of it once things in my life slowed down. Fast forward to last Thursday while at my favorite restaurant eating chicken wings I bit into a bone and cracked the crown that was right next to the tooth that once had the veneer. Now my grill was really jacked up. I was now in a panic situation because my wedding was in two days (15 Feb) needless to say the next day (Valentines Day) I started making calls to local dentists. I spoke with Amanda at Rockside Dental, she was so nice on the phone and told me to stop by and let them take a look. I was also concerned about quotes I had received from other dental offices I thought were very expensive. Time was running out on Friday. I was not able to make it to Rockside Dental until 3pm. I already figured there was no way they would be able to squeeze me in at the last minute. Once I arrived I asked for Amanda. Immediately she went into action, 5 minutes later I'm in a dental chair and Dr. Jackson was introducing himself. Dr. J had no X-rays or pictures of what my teeth looked like prior. He asked me for consent to begin work and I gave it to him. Hour and half later I was walking out the door with my smile back intact. Two beautifully matched temporary crowns! Amanda gave me the bill afterwards and it was cheaper than all my other quotes! Unbelievable!! Words can not express the gratitude I have for this great experience I had with Rockside Dental!! I've been with Rockside Dental for over five years, ever since they started in their small office across the street. Dr. Slivka is a cool dude and good at what he does. However, this past year, I have not been happy with the services I received. The challenges I have faced going here are: The dental hygienists insisted that I grind my teeth (I talked to an orthodontist, periodontist, and another dentist, and they all confirmed I do not). She wanted to sell me nightguards and after I refused it was almost as if she was upset that I did not make the purchase. It felt like she was trying to sell me on a product that she makes a commission on. I went in for a treatment, was quoted 50 percent out of pocket, and started the treatment, towards the end, they said insurance will no longer cover any of it and that there was a communication error, and I'm now liable for paying the entire bill. Rockside did, however, take the bill down by $200 but the total was stil anotherl $500+ and that's a lot for some people to afford. The office staff is very rude and unprofessional, they have insisted that I'm wrong, and they are right, told me in person that if I did not pay the remainder of the bill they would send me to collections, and have also told me "It's on you, that's why this is happening". Lastly, I went in to get a simple crown for my back tooth 7+ months ago, the first visits to the office, the crown he ordered did not fit. I had to leave town for a meeting, upon my arrival back home, I called to make a new appointment, they scheduled me out 6 weeks for a simple crown that was already made (takes 5 minutes to glue a crown on). By the time I made it into the office to get the new crown, the crown did not fit. We tried 3 more times, with no luck. Here I am, 8 months later, after 8+ trips to the dentist (which was 45 minutes away from where I lived) living in a different state now, with no crown or refund. Rockside said they shipped the crown to the dentist of my choice, we will see if it fits. Whenever I ask about a refund, they ignore me, they will "Talk to the doctor", never call me back, etc. I have not heard from them. At this point, I'm not even concerned about the money at this point, I just want my TOOTH FIXED! From a patient who has had over 30 oral surgeries, and seen multiple doctors, dentists, orthodontists, you name it, here's what I recommend: If your dental hygienists are making a commission from recommending mouthguards, please tell them not to be so pushy when trying to make the sale. When creating a quote for a customer, please stick to the quote, and honor that price. Even if the patient is wrong, you don't need to tell them this. 9/10 times, if you explain the situation to the patient, they will understand and work with you. Please let the office staff know that the patient is where the revenue comes from, and if you're rude to the patient, they will simply go somewhere else. The patient is always right (even if they really aren't) and you should NEVER tell a patient they are wrong or that it was their fault in the unprofessional manner the front office staff has. There used to be a manager named Sonya(back probably five years ago) and she was THE BEST, she was on top of everything, communited with you, etc. Please consider purchasing a same-day crown machine or find a different vendor to make your crowns. 6+ crown revisions are a lot for a simple crown and it's very frustrating. read more
