I've never seen a dentist before so my nerves were high. I scheduled over the phone and came in on a Friday. The front desk lady was super nice and I was seen almost immediately. Solange welcomed me with a smile, explained everything to me and truly made me feel comfortable and safe throughout her entire support to myself and the rest of the staff. (thanks Solange, you're amazing). Dr. Oswman saw me and talked to me with full attention and answered all of my questions! Irinia was my dental hygienist, she explained what she was going to do before she did it, and was PERFECT when cleaning my teeth. She was super sweet, honest and fun to work with. I've been going to this location for almost 6 years. The staff are all very friendly, especially the front office ladies! I love my hygienist. Everyone is very informative and patient as they explain things. I always feel like I've been given the options and information I need to make a decision. My only irritation is how often I get email and phone call reminders for my appointments, even after I've confirmed. I tried to make an appointment at this office. I did it online and filled out all the forms, two weeks in advance of appointment. I got a call the night before my appt. that if I didn't respond with my insurance information within 30 minutes, the appointment would be cancelled. Then I got a call that the appointment was cancelled. I am a student and don't have a car, so I had to plan for a ride and getting work off well in advance. I called office manager today and was given at least 10 different excuses why they didn't have my insurance and why I only had a 30 minute window the night before my appointment to provide the info, when I'd made the appointment 2 weeks prior! The excuses ranged from that they applied the insurance to someone else to they didn't have guardian insurance phone number to verify my insurance to they didn't know people could make appointments online etc.. on and on. Oh but the kicker was that the confirmation email they had sent me earlier in the day (before the 30 minute mandate lol) had my insurance information right on it. So crazy and incompetent. This place is the worst!! By far I have not met a dentist that doesn't listen to a patient's request. All I wanted was to have my chipped tooth fixed and not try to sell me to put a crown on that tooth and the one next to it so they can both look the same but they won't match the other teeth. So I will have two different shades of color teeth on top of having one perfectly good tooth with a crown and two different shades of color. His assistant was arrogant and didn't think I knew what I was talking about. On top of all this I was sent to a specialist to have a root canal to fixed another quack of doctor half ass Mickey Mouse work!! So this "specialist" endodontist was supposed to drill and replace my permanent gold crown. All he did was drill right through my crown to clean up the tooth and re pack with temporary filling which fell off in a time of two hours , cha Ching $300!! Wow! I highly know how this procedure works. To take off the permanent crown, clean up the mess , drill and clean and repack, and last place, glue back on the permanent crown. Now am out a permanent gold crown, a hole on my crown which there's no filling because it fell off. To make matters worst his assistant wanted to have my tooth pull out because she said" it will cost you less to have it pull out then fixing it". SERIOUSLY? WTH? I want my teeth even if their dead and not a bridge or gap between my teeth. Why can't there be good honest dentist to do great work on or in people's mouth and not no hungry ass money grabbing dentist, endodontist who work with one another to do the least and crappiest job on patients. DO NOT GO HERE! DO NOT believe their claims of what you need done, and that you are getting a "discount" when you sign up for their plan and are paying cash. TOTAL SCAM. My daughter, who is a student at the University of Arizona but has insurance in CA, went there as a cash patient because she needed a cleaning and had a toothache and it was just easier to pay cash. She was told that she had 3 cavities that needed to be filled, AND needed a full root canal on another tooth. They quoted her over $1000 for the 3 cavities to be filled, then they quoted her over $4K for the root canal and crown. The total was about $5400 and they were ready to sign my daughter up for her next appointment, and were pushy about setting up the next appointment. The dentist was also pushy and rude. My daughter came home for Thanksgiving break and went to our dentist and she left there with a clean bill of health. Perfect teeth. ZERO cavities. No need for a root canal on any tooth. After getting back from our trustworthy dentist, I called and spoke with the receptionist at Gentle Dental and asked her to confirm the diagnosis for my daughter. The receptionist gladly rattled off the need for 3 cavities to be filled, and the need for a root canal, and then she said she would email me the quote. My daughter is legally an adult, why are they telling me all of this??!! Have they not heard of HIPA laws?? How shameful is it that a dentist office would blatantly LIE about what a patient needs, to fill their own pockets with cash, while trying to make the patient feel that they needed a treatment that they 100% did not. I was very clear about the reason for my visit (broken permanent retainer) and yet I had to wait for a week and take time out of my work day to actually go to the appointment and fill out the paperwork before I was told the orthodontist here does not touch other people's work. I explained that given the work was done 20 years ago in the U.K. I was unable to go back to this orthodontist, and had also had it fixed once before in Los Angeles so I knew it was possible, but instead of any useful solution to my problem (i.e. a sharp wire sticking into my tongue, which needs resolving as a matter of urgency) I just got a heavy-handed sales pitch for extensive corrective treatment. To makes matters worse, the orthodontist spent much of the visit with his mask either under his nose or completely off when he was speaking to me. The whole visit was a colossal waste of my time, and I will neither be recommending Gentle Dental nor visiting them again for any future dental needs. read more

I was diagnosed by Dr. Derek Schop at 1st Avenue Dentistry as needing 2 crowns. One for a broken tooth and another for a crown that was decaying and leaking. $2000. After insurance, $1000 which would have wiped out my total dental insurance for the year. I had been going to Dr Schop for years, and recommended a lot of people to him. When I originally went to him he was on the east side. He since moved to 1st Ave Dentistry. I really didn't like the 45 minute drive, and REALLY didn't like his new staff. I found them cold and heartless. So after I received the treatment plan I decided it was time for a new dentist. I went to Gentle Dental and Dr. Oscom because they are close to work, they are providers for my insurance, and I just felt good about them. I'm SO glad I got a 2nd opinion. Dr. Oscom looked in my mouth and said, "Your tooth isn't broken. Some old bonding just broke off. This tooth doesn't need a crown." and about the 2nd tooth, "I don't see decay in the xray and I don't see leaking". He poked around, and squirted air and water, and no pain, which was weird, but oh well. So, I'm saved the pain, and the money, for now on 2 crowns. I feel I have found an honest dentist who is convenient, and accepts my insurance. WHAT a great day. Also, Ramon his dental assistant was wonderful and the receptionist was very nice and accomodating. I can certainly recommend them. read more

If you look around for reviews on this place, you will see many poor ratings. Sometimes you need to believe whats online and what you read over and over and over again. This place is shady and seedy. We all know what its like or heard what its like at a car dealership. Well that is what you get here. They even brought out a bunch of papers and made circles and prices with dollar signs, so much I got dizzy. Similar to when I have been at a dealership and they start marking down prices, then adding, then going back to see the manager, etc. All the while the price tag isnt budging and the sticker price is rediculous. I also got sick to my stomach at what I know was them high selling me on everything. Anyways, I stopped at the checkup and basically stormed out of the place, never to return. The dental office insisted we needed these special cleanings when we didn't in fact need the cleanings. I was on my mother's insurance at the time and the insurance company claimed I didn't need them and would not cover them. We paid over $500 for these special cleanings only to be charged another $300 out of nowhere due to the dental office claiming the cleanings were covered. When my mother said she was not going to pay the bill they sent the bill to collections under my name when the account was not in my name. So fuck you. I went to the orthodontist here for braces and feel like I was talked down to a shorter time. My next visit I discussed that I was uncertain about my decision and the dr didn't even want to discuss it. Come to find out my insurance doesnt cover implants and I had to pay for it out of pocket. Their office practice is a terrible. They have no communication and have no idea what they are doing. We made an appointment for 2 month in advance. And the date wasn't what I requested but they told me the specialist come in only those day so I made appointment for that day. 3 weeks before my appointment, they called me and told me my appointment is 10th. I told them my appointment is on 24th. They said the specialist come in only 10th......No apologies for their mistake! They are the one made appointment with specialist for me. I am a huge wimp when it comes to dental anything. However, I can honestly say that my experience at Gentle Dental was better than even I could have imagined. At the age of 42, I had to have all of my teeth pulled and immediate dentures put in. I had a Vitamin D deficiency that went unnoticed for years and because of all my health issues since havong cancer in 2005, I have had to be on a lot of medication. Most dentists look at you like you were a drug addict and thats why your teeth are falling out. And because that's not the case, I dreaded going to any dentist. But the staff at Gentle Dental never made me feel like they were judging me in that way. It was a nice refreshing change from the judgement I have received from others. That alone made me want to write this review. But that's not all that happened... My procedure had been deemed medically necessary because of dangerous infections that hospitalized me twice and almost killed me. Unfortunately for me, my medical insurance wasn't going to cover it. My dental insurance covered a portion, but not enough (Dental insurance seriously needs an overhaul for the sake of our health..it's crazy). The office manager, Becca, worked so hard to try and help me in any way she could. But even more than that, it was her compassion. She also had tears in her eyes when i was in her office crying, not knowing what I was going to do. It made me feel like i mattered. I wasn't just another patient, I was a human...and so was she. Thanks to a dear friend who loaned me the money to get this done and saved my life, I made it to surgery day. I was happy to see one of my favorite tech's, Melinda, there who always has a warm smile to give with words of encouragement. Everyone in the office helped me feel confident and put me at ease for my oral surgery. The oral surgeon, Dr. Velangi, and his team were phenomenal and he just made me feel like it wasn't a big deal..I would get through it. And I did..thanks to him. He was even making me laugh a little right before he put me out. Loved him! And last but not least..Dr. Osmund. He was with me from the beginning. He made me understand how truly serious my situation was and that it was necessary immediately. He was compassionate and helped keep me grounded to get through it all. I have never experienced that kind of compassion from a dentist, so I greatly appreciate it. His calming demeanor comes in handy when you are petrified! The whole office was great, but I can't remember everyone's name. And to their lab that made the dentures..fabulous! They took the time to make them look realistic..not as much like dentures. They look like real teeth! They are the best dentures I've seen and they're mine..yay! Thank you to everyone at Gentle Dental! I give them 5 stars because they truly earned it and continue to earn it every time I go back. I won't go anywhere else! read more

Like any normal human being, I'm not a huge fan of dentists. I believe that they all were part of the Spanish Inquisition or the Crusades in a former life. That being said, when the chickletts in my mouth needed work, I ended up here. While dealing with my angst, this was the most comfortable dental experience I ever had. They explained my situation, what my options were and listened to me when I made a decision contrary to what they were recommending. No judgmental attitude or hard sale. Dr Osmum completed the procedure quickly and with almost no pain. Office staff friendly and competent. So, while I'd rather eat worms than see a dentist, if I am in dire need, this is the place for me. read more

So I'm gonna be totally honest, and I feel bad about doing this because I believe the people here are truly nice, and the majority of care I've received has been great as far as the end result. The problem I've had with this place, is that they just cannot get me numb, a problem I've never had with other dentists, I have no idea if they are just skimping out on the numbing medicine, or if the particular stuff they use just doesn't work on me, but every visit I've had that involved doing something surgical like extractions has been progressively more painful, particularly the last appointment where I was basically in tears in hurt so bad, it felt like medieval torture. Sometimes it seems like they book so many appointments and the doctor is so busy, that they don't have the time to really make sure I'm numb, they kind of just dive right in to the painful stuff without making absolutely sure. The last appointment I had where I was getting three teeth extracted, he gave me a numbing shot and then took so long coming back to do the work that it had already slightly worn off. Every other dentist I've ever gone to will give you several shots in multiple places and my face will be halfway numb. With Dr Osmun it was like one shot, and when they started working I could feel pain from the poking on my gums, his solution was to give me shots in the gums, but that doesn't make sense, because if I'm truly numb at the nerve level, I shouldn't be able to feel that on my gums at all, that's the whole point of the shots deep into your mouth. Needless to say, it hurt so bad when he started working, and his solution was to drill through the tooth and give me a shot into the pulp, which did work, but cmon how come every other dentist can get me truly numb and not these guys? TBH, even though these guys are so close to my work and extremely convenient, I'm terrified to go back for more work, and will be finding a new dentist, I never want to go through what I was put through the last time every again, it hurt that bad, I'm traumatized from it. My tip? Take more time with each patient, get them truly numb to start with and listen to them if they are feeling pain after the initial shot, give them more shots and then wait, don't just give a shot and then start right back up, it's not an assembly line. If I'm paying thousands of dollars for this care, it should be truly pain free. read more

Just had 2nd appt!! Everything was even more amazing :) I felt bad because I had to cancel last week and rescheduled for today. As soon as I walked in I saw Dr. Osmun and he came out and talked me and assured be it was fine! Everyone remembered me and asked how u was doing and that was a great feeling.! Irena did my cleaning (which I'm sure was tough since I haven't had one in like 8 years) and she was super sweet and great. Then did my fills and such with Dr. Osmun,Ruben and there was other ladies i didn't catch their names (receptionist and the lady assisting Dr.Osmun); very patient and gentle! I can honestly say I didn't feel any pain in the slightest (and I have before with previous dentist, which is why I have avoided them) Rebecca the manager I believe came and saw me and thanked me on behalf of gentle dental for my previous review (which I didn't think they would see) everything was top notch and I couldn't have imagined a better experience. I truly hope this practice is here forever because I will be a life long customer ! Anyone who is skeptical about walking in to a new place for dental work, you will not be disappointed! I have naturally pretty beautifully straight teeth, something I have always been very proud of. I was told I would receive a call back regarding being put on a payment schedule. That call never came.
