We stopped in to pick up some chocolates to pass out at a birthday party. The staff member was super helpful as we figured out how much to purchase for our party size. We went with a bag of individually wrapped caramels and a bag of individually wrapped assorted chocolates (turtles, toffees, and peanut butter cups). My last night in Denver, and I just HAD to get my chocolate fix from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! It was about a block away from my hotel so I was here in an instant. This Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory inside Denver Pavilions on 16th Street Mall between Tremont and Glenarm is small, but they have so many delicious chocolate favorites to choose from. How to order your chocolates is kind of like a deli counter in a grocery store - you select your chocolates of choice and then you pay once you complete your purchase. It's that simple. I ordered a chocolate caramel square, a chocolate s'mores square, and picked up a small bag of chocolate malt balls. I really wanted to order more but I'm trying to watch what I eat these days. I wanted to get a picture of these yummy chocolates, but I ended up consuming all of them back at the hotel in one night. Both the caramel and s'mores squares were difficult to bite into at first, but they were still delicious and very chocolatey. The chocolate malt balls reminded me of those chocolate whopper candies, but way better and way bigger. I want a chocolatier just like this back home in Las Vegas. So, so good! read more

Well, after driving around forever and being so excited because I had been to the one in Fort Collins at the mall, I thought the quality would be the same but I was completely disappointed. Nothing looked appetizing in the store. It was like a completely different experience than the one at FoCo mall! The caramel on all the apples was bumpy like it was not smooth and the apples were small and the whole store vibe was super dated feeling. I mean, the whole 16th street mall seems to suffer from a neglect vibe and maybe because no one can park anywhere to get there!! But I definitely will stick to the FoCo one for sure. This is a go to stop in Denver. I've been taking my daughter to this location for years. Look for the big bear, stuffed animal outside the door. They have a great selection and is always fresh, the staff that works there are great. I WOULD recommend going there especially for a caramel apple. What a disappointment to have 2 of the 3 chocolate covered caramels we purchased be stale and rock hard. The caramel was like a brick and the chocolate covering chipped off like plaster. One caramel was fresh and the caramel was soft and chocolate creamy...the way they should have all been. Wasted $7.50 on 2 small, crappy pieces of candy. We won't shop here again. Here below is my response after the owner got extremely defensive about my review. Wow. What a nasty and unprofessional response from this business to an accurate, truthful review. Sorry I didn't like your caramels? Would anybody like stale, rock hard, old caramels? Years ago while in college, I worked at Russell Stover's candies, so I do know a thing or two about candy. Yours was 100% undeniably stale. Are you trying to save a buck because construction has your foot traffic down? Selling lousy product because you don't want to throw it out isn't the answer. First of all, it's very, very hard to believe you sell 40 to 50 caramels a day based on the amount of foot traffic we saw while we shopped for an hour and the amount of construction on 16th St. We saw no one go into your store. Much like the woman who posted a review of the moldy caramel apple you sold her, it's obvious your inventory turnover is not good, thus the stale and moldy items reviewed. Second...Don't play the small business victim. We too run a small business and would NEVER respond to a poor review in the way in which you did. We would apologize, accept full responsibility and rectify the situation... not lecture the customer. Being defensive and offended never works when you're a business owner. Third.... Guess what. You don't get to tell people how to review your business. Whether it's Yelp, Google or some other avenue, having a business means you'll get reviews. And no, I am not going to take time out of my day to call you so that you can hide your flaws from being posted online. If you run your business correctly, you'll have great reviews. No business is perfect, but check out all the thousands of businesses who have 5.0 stars. It can be done. Hopefully you'll take a couple of businesses classes and learn how important customer service is. Otherwise I give this business less than a year before it closes permanently. I'm here on vacation and made a special trip to RMCF and ordered a caramel peanut apple. I noticed there was one in the case when I walked in and fresh ones on the back counter. I had my two toddlers so, DISTRACTED! The cashier rang me out and cut my apple per request. I got back home and started eating it within 5-10 minutes and the apple was OLD!! Not only was it brown (some ill chalk up to aeration, it rated old (we all know that God awful taste). $8 bucks wasted and a bad experience had. I couldn't even finish it. Good customer service wouldn't given me the fresh apple without me having to ask!! Very disappointed!! read more

Chocolate! Need I say more? Well actually this place has lots of chocolate and other sweets to choose from. During my visit in February, they had a Valentine's Day display. It was nice to have something different than the typical Russel Stover brand. Prices are a bit high. Mini boxes of chocolates with about 4 pieces of chocolates were about $6. Larger sizes ranged from $15-$50. They had a variety of other chocolate covered sweets like bananas, Rice Krispies, strawberries, Oreos and apples. We stopped in last night to get some yummy treats to munch on during our movie (trust me, WAY better than movie theater concessions!) and met the owner who shared with us that he and his wife webs family have owned this location for decades and the one in Writer's Square is in their family as well. This is our home location as we used to live a few blocks away and would stop here every few nights for a little treat. The apples are AMAZING and they'll slice them into pieces for you so you don't have to worry about breaking a tooth enjoying them. read more

For its caramel candied apple selections alone, I'd give it 5 stars. Stumbled on this place on a visit to Denver. We tried the traditional caramel apple and loved it so much we returned the following night. Oh, man! The apple pie apple was the best candied apple I've ever had - and I'm not even a candy apple fan - with its cinnamon undertones adding to the sugary goodness. They also have a super large assortment of chocolate covered fruits, marshmallows on a stick. I can't vouch for them because I didn't get pass the candy apples, but they looked tempting. Maybe next time. Service was fast, friendly and understanding as we couldn't make up our minds quickly. Just looking at their display case made our mouths water. Nice of them to slice up the candied apples for sharing. I've never seen any other candy vendor do that. Their products are expensive. Definitely! But for a once-in-a-while treat, it's worth it. Now, if only they'd open a branch in the San Francisco Bay Area. UPDATE: As one reader pointed out, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory already has an outlet at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf area. This cute little chocolate shop is located in the middle of Denver Pavilions. My husband and I stumbled upon this place after dinner one night when we were in search of a sweet treat. We ended up purchasing one of their barks since the nice guy manning the shop offered us a free sample of their cookies and cream one. It was delicious! It tasted like I was taking a bite straight out of an Oreo! We learned that a lot of their products are shipped from their main factory - such as the clusters, caramels and truffles - but everything is delivered (and most importantly, tasted) fresh! I bought an almond joy chocolate covered apple as a supposed gift for Valentine's day. Imagine getting this, biting into it, and spitting it out because it was ROTTEN TO THE CORE! Embarrasing right? I'm normally not one to complain about a messed up order. But I called and I spoke to a girl (2-16). I was beyond polite and simply asked to have my 10.25$ order replaced with something edible for my husband. She spoke to the manager. A note was to be made and I thought it was fine until I went in... First, I waited for people to leave the store to bring up my complaint because I've worked in customer service for a long time, I didn't want to distract from their shopping experience. Honestly I got the worst vibes from the staff from the beginning. They almost seemed annoyed & apathetic to my situation from the start. Nobody bothered to ask for pictures and declined when I offered them. They wanted to replace my order with another apple or the last 4 CCstrawberries from WHO KNOWS WHEN??? Stating that the same 4 strawberries go for 20$ (even 3 days after V-day). I politely declined because of fear of getting more bad fruit and my present being spoiled again. I think that was pretty viable request. When I asked to have a small box of chocolates for 9.25$ HE responded with "those chocolates are priced differently than the fruit so unfortunately we can't do that without a manager" and nothing further! First of all, like I told him before I had already gone thru this when I initially called! Why am I having to explain this to him all over again IDFK. One of your staff said she called her manager, told me there was going to be a note left for this staff for when I returned the next day (2-17). The arragement was for either another apple or something up to the price of the apple (10.25$) it's simple. But no such note was made apparently... so I had to get into this stupid debate with this asshole over a 2x2 box of chocolates. After the awkward debate I got to keep my mini box of 8 chocolates. They were good but not worth the headache or the parking meter fee. All honesty, their customer service SUCKS worse than their bad apples. Hmmmm chocolate. This place is the Nirvava of sweets and treats. They are gloriously scratch made, huge and delicious. You can find all kinds of treats here, candy covered apples, chocolate drizzled popcorn, candy bark, toffee, truffles, fudge, you name it they probably have it. I was immediately drawn to the peanut butter "buckets", a peanut butter cup on steroids. It was huge, thick, you could choose what kind of peanut butter and chocolate to suit your preferences...I was in heaven contemplating. DECISIONS! I chose a milk chocolate with a crunchy peanut butter center and it was fantastic. The java toffee also caught my eye and it too was delicious...coffee flavored and thick and satisfying. I actually am not the biggest chocolate fan, but sometimes I crave a small piece of fudge. If you are craving fudge, do not get it here. It was a little salty and didn't have the strength to stay together. It fell apart in the bag. I didn't even finish it, because if I'm spending calories on fudge, it better be mind-blowing. TRUFFLES! Truffles are something my Mom and I love. We are particularly fond of the Godiva truffles. I was walking around the Pavilion area on the 16th Street Mall when the whiff of chocolate came over me and I was drawn into the store. The store was decked out in everything chocolate, chocolate covered cherries, fudge, barks bars, cashew clusters, caramels, and my favorite truffles. I tried the raspberry truffle, coffee truffle, and the peppermint truffle. They were all very tasty. The raspberry was by far my favorite. The truffle was simply raspberry decadence. Not quite as good as Godiva, but a solid second. Glorious selection of anything chocolate. read more
