We booked a horse drawn sleigh ride for a new Christmas experience. It was fabulous. They took us on a 30 minute horse drawn sleigh ride through a light show at Jordanelle State Park. I had to book really early they book up fast and it was a nice but not too cold night. They also do sleigh rides for the Ice Castles at Midway. Our horses names were Lock and load beautiful Perchons. I paid to go winter horse back riding, this is tailored towards horseback riding in the snow. There's no snow in park city now, all other operators are doing the right thing and cancelling. There's rains which makes it worse. It's my first time horseback riding and don't feel safe going out in the mud. This company makes thousands a day and won't refund $250 the person was so rude. I booked a 90 minute ride for myself & my grandson: 1:30-3:00. We arrived 10 min early as required for instruction time. There were at least 10 riders scheduled for this ride. Instructions began at 1:30, horses mounted, saddle adjustments made & etc & finally began the ride at 2pm: I took a pre ride photo at 1:56 We arrived back at the coral 1 Hour later at 2:58 according to my phone. as I called my husband to pick us up at that time! After I dismounted my horse I spoke to lady that lead our ride about the time. She was very harsh and said that we left at 1:30 and returned at 3pm. What a fun Midway, Utah activity. We were on a girls trip celebrating turning fifty and we took a sunset ride beside Deer Valley Reservoir. The ride was calm and easy and the views were gorgeous. It's not high adventure riding - it was pleasant and slow. Everywhere we looked we saw something lovely - mountains and valleys and incredible fall colors. Our guide was Bryn, a fun and sincere young man who told us great stories and kept us all engaged along the ride. Our horses were old souls and meandered the trail easily. Came here for a winter horseback ride on their trails. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by Sam who was an absolutely amazing. She took us over to where the horses were and introduced us to them. She very knowledgeable and made sure my boyfriend felt completely comfortable since he had never riden before. She took us on the trail leading the way and we had such fun conversation. The scenery was breathtaking and we enjoyed the ride so much. We were even able to see some wildlife while on our ride. It was such an amazing experience all throughout. She even stopped at this beautiful spot and took pictures of us to that we could remember the ride! Thank you Sam!!! The website said sleight ride but we were driven around in an old farm carriage. It was snowing quite a bit so there was definitely enough snow for a sleigh. We also paid $25 for a private fire pit (not a shared one for $10) to enjoy s'mores after the ride only to find out that there is only 1 fire pit everyone was directed to (so the private up-charge was a scam) and it was hardly more than two logs burning on the ground which was not big or hot enough so all guests would turn away and leave because it was useless. Basically we threw another $25 in the trash on top of the original "sleight" ride. read more

And for a second there I thought I was a cowboy... Rocky Mountain Outfitters does so many fun things in Heber Valley! Fly fishing, horse riding, snowmobile tours, whitewater rafting... all depending on the season. We opted for the tamest and most appropriate for our group... the Chuck Wagon Dinner. With threats of 80% percent chance of rain forecast for the day over the past week, the event operators kept on calling to see if we wanted to move to a non-mountainous secure location. My manager told them no. She said, "I paid to sing Kumbaya in the mountains and dammit that's what we're going to do!" Miracle? Yes, because not one drop of rain came down while it poured over at our hotel in Park City We got in the wagon. It was not a chuck wagon, it was a open top modern transport trailer pulled by two horses. Two horses pulling 20 people, that is boss. The horses marched us around Soldier Hollow for about 20 minutes, bringing us to the eatin' place. Soldier Hollow was the Olympic event site in the 2002 Winter Games for Cross Country and Biathlon. We also passed this tiny wooden house in the middle of nowhere... Butch Cassidy stayed there! Dolly the Fiddler and a cowboy on a guitar serenaded us with country songs throughout the night. The ranch hands square danced with the ladies and taught us how to lasso (I just need a little more practice and I think I can catch some heffers). There was a campfire, steak, potatoes, dutch oven beans, salad, corn on the cob, and peach cobbler. The beer I was drinking? Chasing Tail Golden Ale. The married women were all swooning over one of the cowboys. The best line afterwards was, "Do you think he's at least half our age?" I can't say enough about the staff of Rocky Mountain Outfitters. Everyone there was friendly, entertaining and made our night a joy. If you're in the Salt Lake City/Park City area and want to do something a little different with your group, whether it's friends, family, or co-workers, a dinner in the mountains with clean and friendly cowboys can't be beat. What would have made it perfect is if the Coyote Ugly girls were up here to serve the beer and wine. But what was the real star of the evening? Heber Valley. 150 year old trees, mountain skyline, lush green grass, streams and rolling hills. God, Heber Valley is one beautiful place. read more

I didn't know there would be a light show along the path when I booked so that was a very nice and beautiful surprise. I am very disappointed with the customer service at Rocky Mountain Outfitters Horseback riding. I had booked a ride for Saturday afternoon and received a confirmation email at 2 PM on Friday night. However, I received a call cancelling my booking at 6 PM. 4 hours after I received confirmation, and LESS THAN 24 HOURS BEFORE THE ORIGINAL BOOKING TIME. There was never any mention that the trail might not be open for my Saturday booking. I was never sent any sort of notice or warning that the ride was pending on the trail being cleared. Because I had paid for the ride and received several confirma emails, I had no thought that the trail was closed. I had a valentines date planned. We both cleared our schedules to be able to make it, and I was planning on surprising her with horseback riding. Because the ride was cancelled last minute and I had no inclination that the trail wasn't open, I was unable to make a backup plan for my date. This is very very poor business, and super stressful and disappointing. I completely understand prioritizing the safety of your animals and crew. That is not at all my frustration. My main complaint is that I received a confirmation email less than 24 hours before the ride was scheduled to begin. In my mind, a confirmation means that things are good to go and the plan can be solidified. Additionally, I never received a notice earlier in the week that my ride was pending the trail being open. My booking never made any mention of that. This feels like a major lack of communication. If I knew your trail was only a 50-50 shot at being open, I could have made a backup plan, but I had no idea that was the case. My frustration is in the lack of transparency and communication, not in the fact that conditions didn't permit a ride. I would recommend taking your business to another horseback riding service that checks their trails and notified customers of the status of that trail with ample time to change their plans. Very expensive ride for so little communication. read more

My husband and I took a horseback ride guided by Rachel last week and had such a great time. We purchased the 2-hour package and enjoyed our low-key tour around some gorgeous scenery in Midway with views down onto the Olympic facilities on what are normally ski trails in the winter. The horses--Duke and Viking, in our case--were extremely calm and mild-mannered, clearly well-fed, groomed, and happy (this can sometimes be an issue with trail riding facilities). I had some past riding experience, so most of the instructions were a refresher, but the staff is very patient and helpful in case there's a newbie in your group. Advice: wear sunscreen and bring a hat, as there's almost no shade along the usual trails and most of the tours occur during full daylight hours. I got pretty roasted. Leave as many things in your car as possible, as there's usually minimal space in the tiny saddlebag for things like water bottles and phones. Prices range from $75-$85 per person plus taxes and tip, depending on the package you choose. We spent around $200 total for our afternoon, all things considered. Worth it. read more

Did the Sundance ride with our kids who had never been on a horse (aside from those goofy ones tethered to a pole at the fair). Our guide did a fantastic job getting us all comfortable with our horse. There was an adult (who we didn't know) who was apparently going to join us, but ended up getting super scared when it was time to start. Our guide did a great job trying to reassure her without making her feel bad. In the end, she decided it was a no-go. It was a great ride, even though the waterfall was a bit anti-climactic (partly due to poor flow and partly due to it being farther away than I expected). Regardless, the ride was so peaceful, and most of the ride was shaded, which was great since we were there during a heat wave. Our kids loved it and it certainly boosted their confidence in doing it again. read more

My family of 3 had booked RMO for a horse back riding experience today. We were very excited for our ride as we love horses and we were looking forward to the views as we saw on the reviews and website for this company. We had booked and paid for a 1.5 hr ride, but we technically got a 1 hr ride. There was another party that had booked to join us on the ride, but they were very late. As a result, we didn't leave the stables to begin our ride until about 1:48pm and our ride should've began at 1:30pm. We got back to the stables at 2:53pm. SO do the math.... We paid for 1.5 hr ride to get a 1 hr ride. It was accommodating for them to wait for the late comers, but we got cheated and took away from our experience and obviously overpaid (total of $75 dollars for the 3 of us). It seems like they have strict cancelation policy and they should also have strict rules to start the rides on time. I should've really addressed this matter before leaving, but both my husband and I were quite disturbed. My husband decided to ask our guide if the distance for ride would've been the same if we had started our ride on time and she said yes. BUT that's not believable, because there was a private group that left for their ride a few minutes before 1:30pm and they were coming back at the same time we were heading back. Their ride was 1.5 hr as well.... does that make sense???? The ride was also quite slow and minimal to no interaction during the ride. I've had better riding experiences and have never experienced the whole issue with late start and being cheated of time for our ride and $$$. We will not be back. read more

My new bride and I wanted to go horse back riding for the highlight of our honeymoon. So we booked a 9am ride to Stewart falls. We were super excited because we love horses and the fall colors were in full bloom! Until we had to drive there. The instructions in the email just say "Enter Sundance Mountain Resort into your GPS" and then give directions from there. Ok, problem: my GPS found nothing! Ok, what's the address? Nope. No address. Check the website. Oh here's their address in soldier hollow! Ok we're only 15 minutes away! We get there at 8:50am. The building is locked. Call the number. Goes to voicemail. Then we get a call from our guide to see how far we are. We tell him where we are and he says we are at least 30 minutes away. And no, they can't wait. And instructed us to call the office. Which still goes to voicemail. So we find another company doing horseback rides. Later that afternoon, we call again to see about a refund. They refuse. The girl even lies about an address in the email. And then it gets better. She straight up hangs up on me!!! And no answer since. That's it. Not even an offer to reschedule. So now we are out 200 dollars on our freaking honeymoon!!! Why care about customer service if they already have your money i guess? I guess they don't want repeat customers either? read more

The horses were as beautiful as the scenery, and the guides were top-notch! Dennis was engaging and funny. Our 9-year-old got cold feet as soon as he mounted his horse and wanted to bail. Erika immediately noticed the tears and calmed him down. Then Dennis patiently offered to lead his horse and ride alongside him for the trip. We had Josh as our guide for euronymphing instructions on the Middle Provo. Josh was great, friendly and fun and put on into excellent water to learn the technique.
