If you have just a short amount of time in the Rocky Mountain National Park, then an organized tour is the way to go. After researching tour companies through Yelp and other review websites I settled on Rocky Mountain Rush because of their great reviews on Trip Advisor. Though we had to contend with a rainy day, RMR did a great job of showing us some of the highlights of the park. The park itself is absolutely breathtaking (separate review) and a need-to-see experience. The RMR vehicle (pretty much a really big Hummer) is spacious and very comfortable. Since it has the capacity to become an open air vehicle, it can get a little chilly inside. Comfy fleece blankets are provided. Our guide was fantastic - he seemed to know a lot about the park's history and was truly funny. Just a couple of things... not easy to make a reservation online. I sent three requests and eventually just had to call. It is virtually impossible for me to use a phone on my work days so I would have found online more convenient. A longer tour, even by just an hour or so would be great. The park is huge so don't get me wrong... I get why you can't see everything in a few hours. Besides the basic hummer tour, they also do downhill biking adventures and wine and cheese sunset tours. Their prices are on the moderate side ($50 pp). Overall, a good service! read more

Great tour company, excellent guides, and a fun experience for all. It doesn't hurt that they give tourists who are of age a little splash of schnapps in their hot cocoa to sweeten the pot, and snacks along the way are welcome (Oreos, peanut butter crackers, etc.). Tours are relatively reasonably priced (though not cheap) for the entertainment and educational bits and bobs about the places you're taken to, but for the winter tours where your exposure to several areas of the park is limited, I do think they could knock off a few bucks. We had a bit of a mishap during my tour, where my phone was dropped and my battery tumbled off a bridge and down the side of the mountain. Our guide saved the day by literally sliding down the mountain to retrieve my battered - but still functional! - phone innards. Nevermind the details about how that happened (though I wonder if it'll make it into our guide's stories from here on out), but not having that battery would have really put a kink in the remainder of FH and I's trip to Colorado, so I was thankful, if a bit nervous, that he rescued it. We would love to come back in the summertime and take one of the off-road tours, and will definitely look up this company again if we find ourselves in Estes in warmer months. read more

Recommended by the Winter Park visitors centre, my cousins and I decided to take the "Top of the World" tour. Our tour guide was Kevin. He was knowledgeable, funny, shared a lot of personal stories and gave us some suggestions on how to spot animals if we returned to the Park. It was amazing how the temperature from the bottom of the mountain to the top changes so drastically - bring layers! But if you forget, they have blankets for you. The open door jeep makes it easy to take pictures during the tour, but there are also a few stops along the way for pictures, bathrooms and of course snacks and water. I would highly recommend this tour company. We were all really happy with the service and the tour. read more

We found Rocky Mountain Rush online, in search of a guided tour (Top of the World tour over Trail Ridge Road). Our schedule was tight, so we made reservations without doing further research, and were not disappointed. In fact, we were totally thrilled with the experience. The RMR team has some rough & ready vehicles to accomodate the group, with open-air options (topless or windowless based on weather) to allow maximum enjoyment of the scenery. Our guide was John, and he made the tour what it was. John is quite knowledgeable about the mountains themselves: the history, the peaks, and evolution of the range. He also knows the flora and can explain the types of trees and the forest lifecycle. He's open, funny, friendly, and knows his stuff quite well. As a side note: RMR brings water and snacks for the passengers/customers, and blankets too. This outfit was ready for anything and made it a very comfortable experience. John and RMR try to tailor the experience to the enjoyment of the group, stopping for photo ops along the way at the best spots, helping point out scenes or items of interest and offering to take groups or individual pics as requested. I could go on and on, but I'll end by saying that I'd recommend the Rocky Mountain Rush Tours outfit for any guided, ride-along tour of RMNP. We took our 4 and 6 year old grand kids on the rush tour and had a terrific time! The driver (Phil) was entertaining, courteous, and made sure the little ones were entertained, but not scared. We were fortunate that it rained the night before, so had plenty of mud puddles. The kids (all of us!) had blast splashing through these and kicking up mud! Beautiful views fun terrains, and Phil kept us entertained with information and stories about the forest and history of the area. Amazing customer service & experience! My boyfriend and I did the Top of the World Tour since we only had a few hours to see RMNP! Loved the sites and views. Wayne our guide was fabulous! So knowledgable on everything & was so fun learning about the history of the park & sites! Only recommendation is that they do not allow babies/toddlers for tours. It's not a good environment at all for them- babies do not belong on a cold off Roading tour. Our large group booked the Top Of The World tour and loved it. It takes you up into the park via the original one way dirt road with stops along the way to view water features and wildlife. The final destination is the Alpine Visitor's Center at 12,000 feet. (Thus, "top of the world") Then you will descend the mountain via the main paved park road with a couple view point stops. All along the way, our driver/guide John was personable, informative, and a nice guy to spend time with. He also provided us with some much needed blankets when we got to the upper elevation, and also kept the snacks and water bottles flowing to everyone. Thanks for taking great care of our group John! We did the Rock'n Roller Coaster tour with Neil. The custom hummer is just incredible - it climbed rocks that were not meant to be climbed by a vehicle (and it climbed them with ease). Neil kept the trip entertaining by not only providing very insightful information about the National Forest and its history, but also making sure that each guest on the tour was comfortable and having a great time. If you want to see lots of wildlife, this may not be the best tour for you. The hummer is loud and it's almost impossible not to let out a fun scream as your vehicle catches a little air - both things that are certain to scare away most wildlife. But if you want thrills and great mountain views, do this tour. Not to mention that this is the only tour company with permits in this part of the forest, so you'll see things that most people have not (and get to climb a tower with the most breathtaking 360-degree view). This tour was an amazing way to experience the mountains in a unique way. The terrain is so rugged it's hard to believe a truck or Jeep can even get to where you're going. Our tour guide Eric was very knowledgeable about the area, the animals and the history of the mountains. He was also really fun and super friendly. They did have some problems with our truck and or tour started quite late. However, the office staff was very apologetic and even gave us free DQ ice cream bars. All in all it was an experience I will never forget and would highly recommend Wildside to anyone coming to Estes Park. read more

Started off the tour pretty excited! We traveled through Estes Park, stopped by a few places before entering the park. The trip itself felt like a lot of stalling, and traveling in circles to the same ground we had just visited. The guide was boring, mellow and kinda tiring. He was knowledgeable with the wildlife and all but I could if driven my own car around the mountains without paying a whopping $80 waste of time and money. I could of saved that money taken my own car and go up the mountain myself. I expected to see more wildlife animals. He did ALOT of stalling and stops for no reasons. We were going in circles. Overpriced tour and honestly just take your own car and grab a map and drive away. Save your money ! Unless you don't like driving then pay $80 to put you to sleep and drive around in circles. WOW! what a GREAT time my 2 sons and I had on the RockNRoll tour with Jacob. He was so fun and overflowing with information about the beautiful rockies. We got our blood pumping going up steep mountain sides, going over rocks that I'd never drive my car over, and the highlight? Oh the views at the top of the mountain tour. The 360degree panorama of the front range. WOW! I have to say this tour took me to one of my favorite places in Roosevelt National Forest. I am sooooo glad that I surprised my sons with this tour. I really enjoyed my 'Top of the World' tour, and can see why it is so highly raved about! My tour guide was knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the Rocky Mountain Park-more than just a tour guide doing their job. The entire tour was about 3.5 hours and took us through three Eco systems and up to the highest point accessible by humans in Rocky Mountain National Park. Incredible scenic views, animal sightings, and interesting knowledge about plant life. At the top, we had about a 20 minute break for photos and snacks (provided). The tour guide was a careful driver and funny. He took input from the group on exactly how bouncy of a trip that we wanted. Most fun you can have in Estes Park! It was a dreary, raining morning in September but we were willing and ready to go. Our driver, Phil, was prepared with full rain suits in an assortment of sizes (thank goodness.) There were 4 of us on the ride, a couple in their 50's and a couple in their 20's. (ok, we were the "old" people.) Phil made sure he knew all our comfort levels with off roading, the chill and the rain. We happily encouraged him on. When my husband told him we weren't getting wet enough (ha!) he obligingly hit the rest of the puddles faster shooting the muddy water up over the bronco onto us. I'm sure he would have been terribly gentle on the ride if that is what we asked for. Had a terrific time even though the expected views were non existent due to the weather. The company did offer a second tour the next day if that is what we wanted. Since we were heading out of Estes the next day, we declined. We think that's why our tour was 3 hours instead of the advertised 2. Either way, what a blast! Take a tour, you'll love it! read more

We had a great time. Chris was a fun tour guide. The 4 wheeling was not a joke, but those trucks were yoked out so it wasn't a problem. We didn't see any wildlife, but we saw some great backcountry and learned some neat info. Great time for all. The only, very minor thing I can suggest is for the driver to wear a ball cap rather than a wide brim hat. The person sitting directly behind the driver has a hard time seeing past the brim to see the terrain your about to crawl over when wearing a bigger hat. Good job Chris. THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE BLAST!!! So like many others we arrived into Estes Park to be welcomed with the summer rush and everything either being booked out or selling out. So we did a little research at the visitors center and came across these guys! My fiancé did more research on the website and pumped me up with keywords like 'thrilling ' and 'adventure' so I was in. You start off in either a big ol military hummer or bronco and we got the latter. Our tour guide was Chris and he's the main reason I am taking the time to right this review. Throughout all of our outings in our Colorado vacation (mind you we went to the museums, zoos, and aquariums) Chris stuck with me the most because of how genuinely nice and funny he was. He made the whole tour! He was super knowledgable on all the wilderness and took the time to point out all the little things. He would stop when the family we were with wanted to see something scenic and really knew how to handle the vehicle well (joking the boss knew when he pushed her too hard!). Can't say enough good things about Chris, you can see why those guys are assets to companies like this. Will definitely tell everyone I know to come out here for this experience. And it was very thrilling! Rock crawling, roller coaster like roads, views that took your breath away, and most importantly EXCLUSIVE access to places you wouldn't have seen otherwise and history you would have never learned. read more

OMG!!! Lisa spotted their ad on the side of a truck while traveling in Estes Park. I am so glad that we decided to go on this tour! Our guide Ben was from Australia, and he did not disappoint! He was knowledgeable and funny and even through the crappy weather he took really good care of us. We took the Top of the World tour which meanders up the timber road to the Alpine Visitors center at 12.2k feet altitude. It started to rain an hour into our tour but it didn't stop us from viewing some of the most scenic views I've ever experienced. Ben educated us every step of the way..which I'm proud to say I've remembered to this day. We traveled through 3 different eco-systems (mountaine (sp?), sub-alpine and alpine/tundra). We learned that aspen trees are revered by the Native Americans, that they set up camp in aspen groves because they thought they were being watched over by the 'eyes' of the trees (this ended up being where the branches on the lower half of the tree had been broken off revealing a wound that looked like an eye). That aspen bark when chewed by the female moose after birth have pain killing qualities (aspirin), that their bark has a powder that can be utilized as sunscreen spf8 and that aspens trees have a mother tree that send out baby trees up to 4 miles away!! Totally worth every dime, can't wait to take another excursion with them soon! read more
