D.Masonry - The scary pillar Before-and-After. (1930's "clinker" brick is supposed to look uneven)

Communication was great, David even called me to let me know he was going to be a half hour late. Fantatstic work. Would hire again.

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

After it was taken over by weeds and dug up by our schnauzer a few too many times, it was time to do it right. Cody came out for an estimate and design consultation. He is such a great guy who explains how it all works, gives you a reasonable number of options (helpful for me to not have information overload), and gets things moving. And for the work itself, these guys work hard and nonstop when the job begins. They show up on time and work full speed from morning until evening to get the job done. They build the patios in ways that work for Colorado weather, and they actually specialize in pavers, instead of a landscape company that doesn't do these types of patios nonstop. Paver patios are not cheap, but they're also not something you should do on your own unless you absolutely know what you're doing. If you're looking at redoing your outdoor space or patio, you should absolutely give these guys a look.

Our assigned project manager, Jeremy, was friendly and very professional, had insurance and license info ready at hand when asked, produced a reasonable quote, and did great follow up. The work crew, Freddy and Rigo, were absolutely fabulous.... Neatly and properly dressed, super courtesy while quietly working with the least amount of noise possible, never yelling or blasting music or slamming things around, and they were industrious throughout the day despite the 100 degree heat. These guys were very respectful of the property, demonstrated attention to detail in their work: measuring twice, using levels to make the wall perfect, were careful when moving equipment and product, and when using tools/machinery. They also cleaned up the job site... cleaner than when they first arrived! They didn't damage any plants, and left not a trace of their presence. With other companies and contractors, I have found water bottle caps, candy wrappers, cigarette butts, trampled flowers, bark kicked out on sidewalks, manufacturer stickers/labels laying around from products used or installed, nails or stains left on various surfaces; but this crew of Little Guy Pavers was just the opposite, and just excellent! See the attached before and after photos. Thank you!

The past three months (for a projected completion time of 3-4 weeks) have been a nightmare with Faros Construction Services. I will start with the positives. Carlos was amazing with all the work he did on the shower. We also really enjoyed working with Kristen, who is the designer we worked with. Unfortunately, the negatives were larger. We did agree that it might take an extra week or so to start working on the shower due to them being busy. We gave them the extra $2,000.00 deposit to expedite our project. They had completely forgotten we had given them the extra money, so we had to remind them. That was nerve-racking right from the get-go, and that should have been our sign. The demo of our shower was on June 19th. They started working on the shower on July 3rd. Between July 6th and July 20th, they sent Carlos to work on our shower twice. Ricardo and his team created every excuse why they couldn't come to work on the shower. After begging for better communication and begging for someone to work on our shower, on July 28th we finally had consistency with Carlos coming to work on the shower. Ricardo came to pick up a check three different times, and each day after they picked up the check, they wouldn't show up the next day to work on the shower. Ricardo and Leo didn't come by much, which I preferred, but when they did, they were between one and two and half hours late without any communication. I even asked one time what time zone they were going to show up in because clearly they don't show up on time. They even acknowledged that they didn't show up on time. Anyways, if you got this far, I would not hire this company if you like communication and if you want your project done on time. I am so relieved to be done with the Faros Construction Services and to never work with them again.
