I'm so glad I went with my gut and hired James. My first project with him was a wall addition which he executed perfectly and on time. I originally hired Josh years ago for a very small job which he humbly accepted in between his other large jobs (in hindsight he was far overqualified). I knew he would be our person for any future projects. When it came time for cabinetry for our basement finish, I knew Josh was who we would use. To cover my bases, I explored a couple other quotes. Here's the nutshell on that. While Josh's pricing was at first glance (slightly) on the higher side than other quotes, the value easily exceeded the other quotes we got. One was slightly less but the cabinets would have to be painted after install (they didn't provide painting) whereas Josh follows best practices and all cabinets were expertly painted prior to install. Josh is also able to do just about anything you can dream of. We did a custom wardrobe-style storage closet with paneling to match an adjacent wall and the work he did seamlessly integrates with the work of our basement carpenter. Moreover, when some things went south with our project and we had to have the floors redone, Josh really saved us. We no longer trusted our original carpenter and Josh helped fix trim work that had been damaged in the floor debacle process. As you can see, I really can't say enough good things about Josh and his skills. The bonus to all of this is he is a kind, genuine person who is genuinely wonderful to be around. Based on this experience I was impressed with both his technical competence to tackle our current large scale "rehab" project (he's a walking "construction/building encyclopedia"), and even more importantly, the sense of INTEGRITY we were looking for in a contractor (never realizing I'd be calling him one month later). Having just completed 2 1/2 months of renovations D&K proved to be everything a service company should be - professional, efficient, reasonable and most importantly - trustworthy ... a company that respects its customers and places their interests first. Equally impressive was Jim's partner Steve Kessler ... every bit as technically competent and with the same sense of CHARACTER to match. As the onsite supervisor, we couldn't have hoped for a more forward thinking or forward leaning individual to address the countless day-to-day decisions and activities inherent in coordinating all the efforts associated with restoring our home (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, etc...) As with any project this scale, it was not without its share of unanticipated problems. Jim and Steve were quick to diagnosis the issues, recommend a solution and employee the necessary resources to rectify the situation (i.e., no wasted time "evaluating" the situation while racking up unnecessary labor charges). In sum, Jim and Steve are a one-of-a-kind TEAM. They are exceptionally polite, personable, competent and knowledgeable - with the energy, enthusiasm and "esprit de corps" to tackle anything thrown at them.
