The best thing about this barber shop is its location if you have time to make it to another shop I'd suggest doing that. Vibe wise it's like every other barber shop sports on the tv, conversation is only held with KNOWN clients. I've serviced this establishment on multiple occasions and have never had any one say anything other than "somebody will cutt you". This gets 2 stars only because when they EVENTUALLY getting around to cutting your hair, it's actually pretty good. But FYI: it may take them over an hour. I've been here more than once and wanted to hold off on writing a review until I could tell if my first experience was just a one-off and not the norm. And now I know: it's an unprofessional barbershop. First time I came, they let a homeless guy in who was trying to sell things he stole from another store (he freely admitted this and you could tell by how they responded, they were used to it). I think a few of the barbers bought some stuff and the guy thanked him and confirmed he was going to use it to buy drugs. This was my FIRST experience here. But I'll be honest: the cut was nice and chalked it up to one weird, random occasion. Went back again recently and now I know I'll NEVER give them a third chance. They make you wait outside (even if it's freezing) until they're ready for you. They get mad if you're a few min late for your appointment but usually end up not being ready until 15min after your start time, and I found out why: they do not know how to cut hair and hold discussions at the same time. What should have taken probably 20 min went longer than an hour. My barber would cut a small piece from the top, then stop and go talk to somebody for several minutes. Every time I looked in the mirror, it looked like he'd barely done anything. When he finally finished, it wasn't even what I told him to do. He seemed annoyed because he had another customer, but that's because HE kept stopping to talk and wasn't paying attention to what I said. The final product was what I wanted but it should not have taken 80 minutes. The owner was there this time and I was surprised he didn't try to get any of his people to focus. He just let them walk around or take breaks and left their customers with half-done haircuts. It's hard to find a good barbershop near me but I'm going back to the drawing board because these fellas don't know how to act! read more

Needed a quick cut. Walked in and got possibly the worst barber on the planet. Never asked what I wanted. No personality. I mean his greasy long hair should have been a dead giveaway. But to make matters worse, he did a real number to my neck. It now has a serve rash. I'm assuming he never sanitizes his trimmers. God only know what multitude of other people's germs he's passed on to me through the skin on my neck. Seriously, this guy should pick a different profession. The reviews were TRUE, once I walked in I was greeted by the barber, given directions as to when it would be my time. Within five minutes or less, I was in a chair, describing my desired cut to the barber and then he went to work. I'm VERY particular about my hair and MJ did me right! This was my second visit to a barbershop in one day. 71 messed me up so bad I was considering shaving my head. Luckily, the gentlemen at Rocky's are top notch. I came in with a hair emergency a day before new year's Eve (the shop was packed) and after seeing the condition that my head was in the gentlemen promptly sat me on a chair and began to fix another shop's mistakes. Nick finished the cut with surgical precision also throwing in a beard and mustache trim, and my man at the front chair fixed what I thought was a ruined part with a dope design completely masking 71's mistake and giving me a fresh look to bring in the new year. Today was my fourth and last time getting my beard trimmed at Rocky's Barbershop by Marlon. The shop is in a convenient location based on its proximity to where I live and the price is great. I will also say that Marlon does an excellent job of trimming my beard. However, as stated earlier, today is my last day being a customer at Rocky. I had an appointment set for noon on Friday, which I scheduled a week in advance. I missed my appointment, because an unexpected meeting happened at my job. I called the barber immediately after my meeting (57 minutes later) to apologize and to reschedule, which I was able to get an appointment the next day. Once again, the beard trim was done to my liking, which I almost doubled my normal tip for missing my appointment the day before. However, when he finished and I attempted to schedule my next appointment, I was told I could not schedule an appointment a week in advance due to me "forgetting about" my appointment the previous day. Once again I explained to him that I did not forget, but instead was caught up in a work related meeting and had already apologized the day before. The first time I visited Rocky's I was a walk-in. The second time I made an appointment and Marlon was behind with the schedule and I did not get in the chair for two hours. The third time I got there 5 minutes before my appointment (appointment was for noon) and he walked in right on time, but had to eat his lunch first and I did not get into the chair until 12:15 pm. There is a barbershop on every corner in Atlanta and it is always easier to keep a customer than to get a new customer. Black barbershops lack good customer service to me and can make easy adjustments to make a customer's experience wonderful and to keep that person a customer. I gave this review 2 stars, because the beard trim and price were good, but the customer service is not the best. I wish Marlon the best of luck with future customers. read more

SUMMARY Corey gave me a jacked up haircut. I had too much hair on my head for ANY "MASTER BARBER" to mess up a short cut. THE RESEARCH I went online searching for a good barbershop close to my office in Buckhead. After visiting several websites, reading reviews, and doing my research, I decided to give Rocky's Barbershop a try. I was excited because it has received good reviews and I have seen the Fox 5 commercial promoting Rocky's Barbershop for the last two years. Certainly this should be a good experience. So Friday after work I drove the two miles (30 minutes in traffic) to the shop. I arrived around 5:15 pm. THE LOCATION The shop sits on the corner of Sidney Marcus and Piedmont. It faces Sydney Marcus but has the Piedmont Road address. It is on the street level of a live/work/play apartment building complex. I parked for free in the Home Depot/Starbucks parking lot located behind the shop and walked over. THE INTRODUCTION I entered the shop and was promptly greeted by the owner, Rocky. He was friendly and courteous. Rocky asked who I was there to see. I told him I was a walk in. He said there were two people ahead of me. So I sat. There were 6 barbers on duty and there were about 8 guys waiting for cuts. I had seen on the website that they accepted credit card payments for services. I asked about this and was told no. I was instructed to go across the street to one of the banks for cash. So I did. When I got back 20 minutes later, I waited for about 10-15 minutes, then it was my turn for a cut. My barber would be Corey. THE CUT Corey greeted me. We shook hands. He asked me what I wanted done, I told him I wanted a gradient fade and to bring down the top about half my length and a straight side part. I came in with a mini fro about one inch high. So I knew I had enough hair that it would be hard to mess up the cut without being able to fix it. He began with the fade, proceeded with a goatee shape up, and then cut the top. After the first swipe, he asked me if I liked the length, I told him to take it down a bit more. He did so and proceeded with the cut. He put a razor on the sides and left the front natural. He forgot the part, so I asked him to give me the part. I asked him how much I owed him. He stated $26.00. I tipped $4.00. THE ANALYSIS Overall, this is a typical urban barber shop. Not much different than any other. I guess I was expecting a great experience, but was somewhat disappointed with my cut. I am hoping that after a day or so, I will grow use to it; however, I have a feeling I will be spending more money to have it re-cut by another barber before I return to work Monday morning. PROS - The shop is located in an upscale neighborhood. The staff is friendly to customers. The wait for walk-ins is very reasonable. CONS - Not all barbers accept credit payments which is not indicated on the incomplete website (sidebar I can help you with that), so unless you know who is cutting your hair in advance, bring cash. The barbers talk and joke loudly among themselves. My barber communicated with me at the beginning and the end of the service. The 30 minutes in-between was filled with loud shouting in my ear as he bantered with his co-workers and answered a couple of quick phone calls. It was so loud in my ear I was uncomfortable. Pertaining to the cut, I would have preferred the barber pick out my hair before applying the clippers...this is after all a full service barber shop staffed with master barbers, but my hair was picked out after 15 minutes of cutting. The part that I requested and had to remind the barber to put in after he thought the cut was complete. was not followed by a clipper swipe to smooth the edges of the part. So it looks like it was an afterthought and not blended into the cut. Bottom line - Corey gave me an jacked up haircut. I had too much hair on my head for ANY "MASTER BARBER" to mess up a short cut. I probably will not return to this shop or make it my regular stop. I can get the same mediocre cut for 10 dollars less out in the suburbs where I live. No need to fight traffic, walk to a bank, and endure shouting to get the same results. I don't mind paying for a service and tipping but I appreciate it if I am not disappointed when I leave the chair or when I get home and take a good look at my cut. If anyone can recommend a master barber who pays attention to the client and the cut and will give a cut that compliments the client, please let me know. read more

They do not talk about customers after they leave, no profanity, music is respectful, and they treat children like they are a true treasure from true men.
