Came here yesterday because I was craving a hoagie. This is what you call a hole in the wall place. Sometimes the best food comes from the places without the fancy outdoor signs and decor, or fancy menus with all the special ingredients. Sometimes the best food comes from a mom and pop shop, with a few hardworking employees who just love to make food and make customers happy. The atmosphere in here was like a small town diner. There were many Philly sports memorabilia and pictures hanging on the wall. We enjoyed looking at the aerial view of the stadium complex back in 2003. Much has changed then. The service here was great. The lady working the register was also waiting on customers. There was one guy manning the grill. He prepared for us a very tasty grilled chicken Caesar salad and roast beef sandwich. I was very pleased with the presentation and the flavor. The fries were cooked just right. The perfect amount of crunch and crispy drizzled with some delicious cheese whiz. My husband and I look forward to coming back again. I hear the breakfast is really good. Rocky's on E. Glenside Avenue is a dive breakfast joint that has been slinging hash for many decades in the old business section of town. It has tons of authentic atmosphere with counter service for three stools and five booths tucked in the rear of the store. Most customers appear to be regulars, and the staff is downhome friendly. I sat at the counter overlooking the grill, deep fryer and toasters. My mug O' joe was hot and strong and refilled upon request. The Challah French Toast was okay, but not much effort was put into placement on the plate, needing some reorganization before it could be buttered and syruped. Industrial corn sweetener (Smuckers) also downgraded the result. Taste was average at best, requiring more vanilla, cinnamon sugar in the egg mix to really bring up the flavor to where it should have been. The three strips of bacon were a decent side. Prices were as dated as the shop, making for affordable nostalgia. Rocky's is an eat and run joint, where you have to love the aging facility and folks that frequent it and call it home, to really appreciate what it has to offer. While I got all that and enjoyed the conversations, I couldn't help but notice how much more it could be with a little more effort. Add some TLC and a review of recipes, and this place could be terrific without changing the obvious charm and historic feel. Rocky's is old Philadelphia all the way! read more

Friendly family owned for 40 years. Comfortable seating, comfortable staff, comfort food. Portions are large: the regular hoagie is the size of a large and the large is a family sized. A wonderful hole in the wall, classic old American Diner and I recommend the corned beef hoagie. read more

Came here just to use their restroom really quick and leave. That was until I saw that they were rewarded with some of the best cheesesteaks in Philly. I knew I had to try some of their food and it did not disappoint! On top of that the people who run the shop are incredibly kind and thoughtful and made sure we were having a great meal. Rockys Deli is an old fashion small town dinner style restaurant that gives a warm moms kitchen feel. The owners of the restaurant are genuine people that want to provide you with a service that feels personal. They asked me for my name and used it for the rest of the time I way there. This made my interactions with the business feel a lot more personal and enjoyable. On top of that the prices of the food is extremely reasonable and on the cheaper side. Though the food might not be a 5 star quality, they don't oversell you and make you pay more for what you are getting. Due to this I am giving a 4 star rating for the quality of service and the price for the quality of food. Pretty decent little place tucked away in Glenside. It's very likely that you'll drive past it without even seeing it! The only reason I was able to stumble upon it was because of this lovely site here. There's parking around the corner in a little parking lot. A dollar will get you an hour. If you feel like driving up a little, you can park in the neighborhood and walk. It's small, but there's seating. It looks kind of old and outdated, but that sort of stuff doesn't bother me. The menu is simple with your basic sandwiches and cheesesteaks. They have a waitress working and who I believe is the owner who does the cooking. I ended up with a reuben and the person I was with ordered a large cheesesteak. Service was extremely fast. That food came up at lightning speed, so that made me happy since we had to be at the Kewswick within a reasonable amount of time. My reuben was ok. I should have asked before hand if it was a sauerkraut or coleslaw infused reuben. I don't mind coleslaw, but that usually will sway my opinion on if I order one or not. I just wish it would have been sauerkraut. The corned beef was okay. It had more of a bologna kind of taste to me. The rye bread was delicious. I sampled the cheesesteak, and that was really good. I will tell you that a large cheesesteak is two cheesesteaks. So unless you're really hungry, I'd go with the regular. The fries are crinkle cut and cooked crispy, just how I like them! In my first experience with Rocky's, I ordered a chicken bacon club on wheat with a side of fries for pick-up. They told me it would be ready in 10 minutes from when I ordered it, which I would consider no time at all. I was only in the shop for a short while, but I could tell two gentleman working there were very nice based on the small talk we exchanged. The sandwich was very good! I really enjoyed it, although it was nothing super special. It's a sandwich I could have made just as well at home (if only I had the ingredients), but for the price I paid plus the convenince it was well worth it! The fries were exceedingly average. I waiting until after I ate the whole sandwich to break into them, which allowed them to cool down and lose some of their crispness. In general I enjoyed them! In general I enjoyed the meal. I've only been here for breakfast. It is very low key type of place. You walk in and sit down and the owner will recognize you eventually or a waitress if one is on. The location is decorated with old sports memorabelia items. You are talking about free give away type of items from the 80's or 90's. So the inside is not especially pleasing, kind of a run down deli type of look. The breakfast food is good. I have had no complaints and it is fairly cheap. If you want a type of place where you show up in the morning and get a friendly service, cheap prices and food cooked to order this is a place to try. Call me crazy, and I have tried every noteworthy cheesesteak in the greater Philadelphia area, and I consider Rocky's to be my favorite. Can't say I have tried many other items on the menu but the cheesesteaks are absolutely perfect. Great bread, meat is tender and the wiz/onion ratio is spot on. There is something special about these hoagies. After not eating any hoagies for my entire pregnancy I had my husband get me a Rockys turkey hoagie within 17 hours of giving birth to my daughter. I really could not wait any longer. The meat is great quality, the roll is not to soft and not too hard, and the provolone is nice and sharp. I have to admit that the ambiance of the restaurant is a little scuzzy/old but we usually order for take out so this is not a problem. The people who work here are just really nice and they have been there for years so they know what they are doing. Hoagie Shmokes!! Hot damn this deli makes the best damn hoagies EVER!! Being that I'm pregnant and can't have deli meat I had to opt for the tuna hoagie, that wouldn't of been my first choice that's for sure but I did enjoy it so much that I ate the whole damn thing! Hoagies were new to me when I moved to Philly six years ago. Since then I haven't had a hoagie that was better than the ones I get at Rocky's. The meat seems high quality, and the veggies seem fresh. Not sure what else makes it special, but the ones I get elsewhere are never quite as good (though Flannery's Grove Deli in Wyndmoor comes close). Also the staff at Rocky's is always very friendly. The decor is pretty old school, but appropriate for a hoagie shop. I've only eaten in a few times; I usually get my sandwiches to go.
