Many locals might know that Mister Ricks makes hoagies like a boss. The hoagies are BIG with fresh ingredients and pack a punch! However, many of you might not know that Mister Ricks also makes great cheesesteaks. They have one of the best cheesesteaks I've eaten in Philly. The sliced ribeye is tender, juicy, and flavorful and stuffed into a giant seeded roll. A bargain for $14.99. Get it with fried onions and your choice of American, Provolone, or Cooper Sharp Cheese (hint: get Cooper Sharp!). It was so good I didn't even need to add any flavorings like ketchup or mayo to it (some cheesesteaks in South Philly are so dry they need ketchup and mayo to make them palatable). Mister Ricks cheesesteak is also physically larger than a lot of cheesesteaks I've eaten, so not only do you get a great cheesesteak, but it's also a great BIG cheesesteak that can be shared, especially if you get a couple of bags of chips. Oh, yes, they also have a vast array of chips and Coca Cola soda products to choose from. My son pointed out that this cheesesteak rivals and even beats any of the fancy, famous cheesesteak shops I've taken him to all around Philly. Totally true. I can name some of them, but then those shops might not like me anymore! Service is always quick and efficient. They serve a lot of folks on days with sporting events so if you're in a hurry, call ahead to place your order. Came here today and ordered a stacked Italian, and wow--I was not disappointed. The balance of meat, cheese, and toppings was spot on. The onions were sliced perfectly thin, the lettuce was shredded just right and spread evenly across the roll. Speaking of the roll--let's talk about it. The sesame seed roll had great texture and flavor, easily a standout on its own. Sure, their hours are a little unusual, but I get it--they probably don't need to stay open all day because the local crowd keeps them busy, and honestly, the hoagies are just that damn good. Take out only. Placed an order for a cheesesteak with a long hots and an Italian hoagie. Both were delicious. They came on a long seeded roll that was crusty on the outside and soft inside. The sharp Cooper cheese was well integrated with the meat and onions although I would've preferred just a tad more cheese to give it the perfect taste, but otherwise the meat and cheese and onions all worked well together. It is great to find one of the high-level steak shops in Jenkintown, saving me a long drive to South Philly. read more

I recently retired and stumbled across Mister Ricks while I was in Jenkintown. I decided to try it; some may say there are hoagie places all over Philadelphia and the suburbs. However, there was something a little different about this mom & pop shop. The turkey hoagie with cooper sharp, the freshness of the onion, lettuce and tomatoes. The olive oil is amazing. Each sandwich is made with details and preciseness. Now, I'm a regular but they open at 11 and close at 3 pm daily so your window is short but worth it. read more

food is great... but without fail if you call and they give you to pick up, you will wait at least a half an hour... they make up times with no rhyme or reason. It gets to be extremely frustrating when you sit and wait for 45 mins even though you show up past the time they give you. read more

Wow I found my new hoagie shop! Just start, my husband picked up our order so I can only speak for the Customer Service second hand, but he said the cashier was absolutely lovely and super nice. As a vegetarian, there's always two hoagies I can get, cheese, hoagie, and a veggie OK. I wasn't in the mood for anything hot so I got the cheese hoagie and my goodness was this great. The cheese and veggies for sliced thin, which made eating the hoagie really easy. Absolutely delicious. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his meal from the very first bite. The sandwich was fresh and flavorful. I really wanted a hoagie and couldn't decide on where to go. Hoagies can be hit or miss if the roll isn't soft, too much or not enough condiments, or the deli meat isn't that good. My go to place closed sadly. Meat quantity not short, not heavy. I like heavy, but definitely would suffice the avg belly. Shredded lettuce, I like cuz it's easy to scoop off. Meat was very good. This place is pretty good. We have had nice hoagies and sides perhaps half a dozen times from Mr. Ricks. They do a good Turkey hoagie. We have enjoyed them. Haven't had the ham or various beef hoagies. Sadly while generous to the extreme the Italian hoagie just was lacking ... something. Thing was I ordered a tuna hoagie it had no taste it taste like they didn't put any season in it and it was gross but I was hungry so I just ate it 3 . How exciting to find a real Hoagie spot that focuses on quality and love. The Italian spicy hoagie was as close to perfection as I've had while eating in a car. If you choose this adventure get extra napkins. This sandwich is meant to be eaten on a table hunched over so the oil and vinegar can drop properly on the potato chips below. I ordered the Sharp Italian hot sandwich hoagie it was ok bread was fine . They put very little lettuce it was so fine it could evaporate and they was scared to put onions on it and I had a 1/4 piece of hot peppers. The pictures in the reviews sure doesn't reflect what I received. The tomato's were also sliced so fine and was barely there as you can see. I also had to add mayo to my sandwich. read more

I feel badly for all of the people who tried a hoagie from here and enjoyed it. Life is better out there and so are hoagies from pretty much anywhere else. We were very excited when this shop opened and more so when we finally got hoagies and got home to eat. The hoagies were nearly inedible. To start with, the rolls, despite what others are saying, are nothing special. They might be Amorosos, which are Rolls 101, a sign that someone doesn't know what he's doing. Bland, low-grade, and invisible. No chew, no seeds, no flavor. Not Sarcone's for sure. The veggies such as the lettuce, peppers, onions, and tomatoes were sliced paper-thin, to the point where there was no remaining texture, and were so sparse they looked like accidental leftovers from another hoagie. The cheese was vastly too thin as well and inconsequential as a result. May as well not have been there at all. Maybe it wasn't. So...on to the bad part of this review. We had turkey, Italian, and turkey/roast beef hoagies. The meats, like the veggies, were also cut paper-thin. The result was meat-mush, without texture and wholly disgusting. I finished my turkey hoagie because I was hungry. I did not enjoy it at all. My dining partners were unable to eat much of theirs, they were so grossed out. If you're missing a lot of teeth, these hoagies are for you. I can see that these attributes were decided on intentionally in an effort to make something right. But when all of the decisions are wrong, there's no way the result will be right. I am not happy writing this review. I wanted to have a premium place to get awesome hoagies. Mister Rick's, sadly, is not that place. Wawa hoagies are far better, and that's not saying much. Update: I just saw the photos of hoagies at the top of the page. I wonder where they got those? I live down the road from here and I had heard good things about this place so I decided to give them a try last saturday. I placed my order and went grocery shopping at the Acme down the road- I ordered 3 hoagies an italian, turkey and tunafish. You must know this place doesnt do hot sandwhiches or any hot fries etc. That being said the cold sandwhiches and hoagies they DO offer are TREMENDOUS! My italian was like a primo hoagie in so many ways but only better! I will be going back here MANY times to come read more
