I will say there was a lot of vintage/antique items but very limited art (false advertising I felt). Mostly filled with vendors who have spaces inside of King Richard's (sponsor). For those familiar with Whittier's events it was park version of Uptown's Antique Street Faire. There was live entertainment and about 6 different food trucks. A few community organizations were present. Limited parking could be found alongside the park. They did have a free parking lot (which lacked proper signage) locate a few steps of the start/end of the festival. Although after you parked your car it was a nice steep uphill walk to get to the park, not good for elderly or those with trouble walking.

Living nearby, we've attended this popular event for the last 25 years. Hundreds of artist exhibit, sell, and demonstrate their various art forms such as water & oil painting, ceramics, pottery, woodwork, photography and jewelry. It's quite amazing to see all the enormous talent, passion and energy these brilliant artist put into their beautiful craft. There's arts & crafts boutiques selling their unique handmade crafts. Ladies, you would love the assortment of charming handcrafted jewelry available, my wife sure did! Also, a children's art workshop and live musical entertainment. It's best to arrive early because parking is very limited. Shuttles are available from Whittier Blvd. The church is located off a narrow winding two lane road. Driving cautiously up and down the hill is a must. The festival is fun, entertaining and a positive experience for the whole family to enjoy. Admission is free too!

It is now in its 53rd year and I never knew about it! What really amazes me is that the art show is really big. Artists are allowed to submit three pieces to the competition. Categories include photography, sculpture, mixed media, painting, and also there is a high school competition for younger artists. After the art pieces are judged and awarded cash prizes, the art pieces are displayed for three days inside the church auditorium and galleries. People who come to the festival can view the art pieces and also purchase them. There are also arts and crafts on display and for purchase. Saw lots of cool handmade pieces of jewelry, ceramic bowls, and sit down portrait art. The festival also features art work from well known artists. This year, one of the featured artist was a person that did the set design for all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Awesome. I was told by a planning committee member that a lot of artists that are on display go through a screening process first. They pick artists that are pretty well established or have interesting resumes. Not everyone that submits to the festival gets to display their art. The art and various crafts tables are on display throughout the various rooms around the church. During the 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) the festival is open late in the morning to about 5pm in the afternoon. Various bands are also playing throughout the day. There are a lot of volunteers to help you if you have any questions. The only issue with the festival is the VERY LIMITED parking. Since the church is on a hill, if you can't find parking in the lot, you can't park on the street because there is no street parking. I saw signs for shuttle pick ups, so if you park on the bottom of the hill, I think you can have another option besides walking up!

There is no need to get there early because the term beer festival was used very very loosely here. And the bands didn't play very often and when they did there wasn't much going on. The actual tomato battle is an event not to be missed. It feels amazing, animalistic, and strategic. All wrapped together. You will be soaked in tomatoes. Period. Bring lots of friends but don't worry if you don't because throwing at strangers was just as fun. I'd definitely recommend it.

You can also drive by East Whittier Middle School which was Jacob Bailey High School in the movie. Back to the Future Mill Valley High School was filmed @ Whittier High School on 12417 Philadelphia St. King Richard's Antiques is one of the largest antique shops in California. Also check out Nixon Plaza - Richard Nixon's Law Office was located here in a historic 100 year old building that has now been transformed into a Food Hall There are multiple restaurants with a Large Indoor & Outdoor Dining Area. You can grab something to eat & a brew @ Whittier Brewing Company in the Food Hall. Also check out the Whittier Village Cinema. It is a small beautifully restored Art Deco Movie Theater that was originally called The Wardman Theater which was built in 1932. The Architecture, the Tile & the Lights are really beautiful.
