Fast casual BBQ spot right in Homewood! I believe they do lots of catering. We came on a Monday night for dinner and were one of only three tables there. The food is awesome! Creamy, southern-style mac and cheese, good onion rings, and fantastic banana pudding. We ordered quite a few things, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, etc. The ribs were fantastic. Dare I say... better than Dreamland? Fell off the bone, good flavor, great char. Some of the best ribs I've had in awhile. The brisket was on the drier side and not a super fatty cut, but I'd certainly try it again because maybe this was just an off day. My chief complaint (-1 star) was service. Even though it's fast casual and a slow Monday night, we didn't seem to get much attention from the staff. Drinks came out after food came out, which is one of my major icks. There were far more people at Little Donkey next door. I know that Rodney Scott's sometimes sends over some of their brisket for tacos and such over there (same owners!)

Rodney Scotts Excited to grab some BBQ from a new spot, I ventured to Rodney Scott's. This is a bustling location in Homewood that has been dominated by many Pihakis Group Restaurants. The inside here is very sizable, with some picnic-style tables that create an inviting atmosphere. What we ordered: -Chopped Salad (added chicken): large portion, but sadly was missing their homemade cornbread croutons. It could've had a bit more bacon, but the amount of chicken was great. -Southern Style Pork - side of Mac and Huspuppies: this was supposed to also be accompanied by cornbread, but was left off. Fortunately, we asked for some and they brought it right away (and I'm so glad they did). The cornbread is served as a mini loaf and comes with whipped butter... so good! They did not skimp on the amount of protein here either! The hushpuppies were some of the largest I've seen and were quite tasty. I had higher expectations for the mac and cheese (it is the baked/casserole kind, after all), but it was served borderline cold. It still tasted good, but some things just taste better at a certain temperature, you know? Out of everything, the cornbread was my favorite. It was warm and fresh! The rest of what we ordered was good but not outstanding. I know that items being forgotten are a minor inconvenience, but it still slightly took away from the experience. I really do want to come back and give them another try!

The parking wasn't bad this time around. I also came an early Tuesday afternoon so it was not busy at all. I ordered at the counter and they brought the food to me. I got the 3 meat combo which was whole hog shoulder(carolina), chicken, and ribs. The meat is amazing and a lot more than I was expecting. I got 4 ribs with plenty of meat on them. The chicken is decent but I wish there was more flavor. I was expecting chicken pieces and not pulled chicken but it made sense. The shoulder is good. The sauces really help bring out the greatness of the meat. I love trying all the different sauces. The sides I got with the combo is greens, mac and cheese, and corn bread. The corn bread tastes great and I wish I got extra. The mac and cheese has toasted cheese on top and is probably the best mac and cheese I have had all year. The greens are good. I highly recommend this place.

WHOLE HOG SANDWICH, mac & cheese, and fries.

A friend and I stopped by for lunch at Rodney Scott's. The staff were very friendly and attentive. You order at the counter but they bring your food out to you and take your tray. They were sure to ask many times if we were doing alright even though it was pretty busy. We decided on the whole hog sandwich and the catfish fingers. We were surprised at the Mac and cheese it was pretty good. I would order the sandwich again however it wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a hamburger bun although it was described as open face. It was my fault for not reading enough into the description. The restaurant is pretty spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can just be a nightmare during lunch even with their rear parking lot. Overall, I'd definitely come back. I don't think anything really wow'd me. But service was great and that's a big plus.

Got the brisket to go, and it was very dry. Maybe this is because it was a to go order. I also ordered 3 sauce and only got one of them even though they sauces were written on the ticket that was attached to my to go bag. The sides of mac and cheese and baked beans were good though.

My coworker and I came here for lunch this past weekend after competing in the Corporate Challenge. I really enjoyed my food. I got a two meat plate of turkey and brisket that came with cornbread, and two sides of my choice. I chose potato salad and collard greens. The turkey was some of the best turkey I ever had. The brisket was good too, but fair warning there is a $3.50 upcharge for both brisket and ribs. The potato salad and collard greens were both amazing as well. They served my plate with a white sauce I also thoroughly enjoyed. The cashier was super nice. The ambiance was perfect too. There is also a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card vs cash or debit card.

Amazing fish. My go to at Rodney Scotts. The hush puppies with their signature butter is always a treat!

Came here for lunch. My wife had the brisket and I had the pulled pork shoulder. My wife loved the brisket. The pork was okay by itself but much better with some sauce. I believe it should be awesome even before adding the sauce. Otherwise the place was very nice and very clean. The service was also very good.

$1.00 for Wings on Super Bowl Sunday. WOW!!! Thanks Rodney for this amazing deal. This is much appreciated. The wings didn't disappoint. They were smoked to perfection. Perfect for our tailgate party. When I walked in to get my to go order the entire staff was falling over themselves to help me. Thanks Again for such an incredible feature for Super Bowl Sunday.

Ate lunch here based upon recommendations from business associates. It was quite good, even though we are used to NC style BBQ. I had a plate with shoulder meat and the flavor was good. I used the sweet Kathy sauce which I kinda liked over the vinegar. I think I still prefer the chopped style from home. The cornbread was delicious, I love sweet style! The Mac and cheese also yummy. Wasn't crazy about the Cole slaw, not my personal taste but my husband liked it. I loved the clean open atmosphere. I don't need my BBQ places to be dirty dirt floored spots to be authentic. And the staff was nice about answering our questions when we ordered and helping with to-go cups, etc.

    Loaded Tater with Chicken

This was my first time trying this restaurant and I was delighted. When you walk in the ambiance screams upscale bbq place like you are at a cookout for the wealthy. The lady taking our order was very nice and friendly. I ordered a loaded Tater with Chicken. This was the best chicken I have ever tasted in my life. It was well done yet juicy and it melts in your mouth. OMG. It was so good I forgot to add the bbq sauce like I intended to do. I would definitely come back to try more of their food options. There was one downside that needs to be addressed. Before we left, it rained really heavy for about 30min then stopped and the front parking area was flooded. My entire shoe was submerged in water before I could enter the car so we can leave. They do have some parking in the back although I'm not sure if that floods too.

If you are looking for some tasty ribs, Rodney Scotts BBQ is a good place visit. They have four sauces to choose from. I liked the Bama 16 the best. The ribs are meaty. My wife enjoyed the brisket, which had a delicious smoky taste. My favorite side was the collard greens. They're perfectly cooked and seasoned. They serve cornbread with the ribs. That was a nice touch.

    Noanya S.

Ambience - 5 Absolutely loved the interior, does not look like a typical bbq joint Food - 3 overall I was not a fan of the sides. Everything had a vinegary flavor, which I didn't enjoy. The wings are absolutely fantastic and are a 5 out 5. They were cooked to perfection and were so flavorful that sauce was not needed. Ribs were tasty and cooked well and I'd give them a 4 out 5 Brisket wasn't great, it was over cooked and lacking flavor 2 out 5 I'd definitely return and skip the sides, they do have a full bar

You order at the counter, which can be a little hectic for a first-timer. Luckily for me, I knew what I wanted and quickly found it on the big menu on the wall beside me. I later noticed that people were looking at handheld menus as you entered the restaurant. There was no one in front of me when I entered, so I didn't see those. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful in answering my questions. I ordered the pulled pork shoulder tray with two sides. If you have read my reviews, you know I only eat fries, so I doubled up the fries. You are given a number and can sit anywhere in their very big (for a BBQ joint) indoor dining area, or you can sit on a patio or outside. The walls are COVERED with pictures of old movie posters, country music stars, album covers, car tags, signs, and even a picture of the NWO (IYKYK). I didn't see the required Alabama BBQ joint picture of The Bear, Alabama football coach Paul Bryant, but with so many things on the wall, I'm sure it has to be there somewhere. There is a separate 'To-Go' spot for placing orders on the run. This also looked like a bar area as I saw advertising for alcohol. They also offer T-shirts and hats for sale if that is your thing. The menu consists of burgers, tacos, brisket, chicken, catfish, smoked chicken wings, BBQ nachos with just about any kind of side you can ask for, and pie for dessert. My order was brought to me in a timely manner. The BBQ is West Tennessee-style whole hog that Martin's cooks low and slow over hickory wood for up to 24 hours. The pulled pork is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, topped off with their special Jack's Creek BBQ sauce, on the table, which is a sweet vinegar and pepper-based sauce. I did see other sauces behind the counter, so I'm sure you just have to ask. The portions were just right for me. The fries are real cut potatoes that have been peeled. I doubled up, and that was enough to feed a family of four. Next time I will just ask for one side so as not to waste fries. The Jack's Creek sauce was great poured over my fries; it is water-based and not thick, and that is how I like my sauce. The sweet tea wasn't as sweet as some places, but I'm not complaining; it was good, and the day was hot. There seemed to be a lot of staff working. I guess it can be busy on Saturdays for lunch. I visited around 2:30 pm, and it was not crowded when I arrived but picked up as my time went on. The staff didn't have anything to say as several walked past me while doing random things. Not that it's a bad thing; I just always acknowledged customers with a "how ya doing?"--little things. The music was a mix of classic rock, soft 70s to hair metal, set at a decent volume. I don't mind being able to hear the radio, but maw maw and paw paw may complain that it was too loud. The parking lot may fill up with a big dinner crowd as there is a business next door that shares the parking lot. There is handicap parking available. Overall, Martin's offered a cool atmosphere for BBQ and a relaxing meal. They offer live music some nights (check their website), and it seems to be a great place for socializing in a casual setting. 5/5 -Kevin
