Yes, I'm actually just now trying Saw's, I can't believe it either. It lived up to the hype for sure! I got the brisket grilled cheese, which is on their Hoover Restaurant Week menu. Not sure if it's available all the time. Piled high with brisket and their vinegar based bbq sauce - this was memorable and very filling. Their fries were good but nothing to write home about. The pimento cheese, pepper jelly, and pork rind app was amazingly sweet, spicy and salty. An absolute must try. My mom got the pork and greens dish and raved about it. Greens over cheese grits with pulled pork and red sauce and onion rings. Very flavorful and she had so much left over. Our waitress was very friendly and parking was no issue at the Hoover location. Another amazing visit to Saws! We try to stop in every time we head through town on our way to the beach. We live in the Memphis, TN area, but my son prefers their BBQ over any of the Memphis BBQ joints. I was so glad to hear that the fried corn was back. It's my absolute FAVORITE! So juicy topped with both white and red sauce and some of their special seasonings! It is a MUST if you are ever in town and they have it on their seasonal menu. My husband loves their smoked chicken thighs with all of those same sauces. I usually try to change it up, but today I went back to the pimento cheeseburger and it was the BOMB! Grilled burger with all the grill flavor and then top it with pimento cheese, jam and their pork rinds...truly a one of a kind burger! They had a small mishap and brought me the wrong burger at first, but they made it up to me bringing the right burger rather quickly along with a complimentary banana pudding due to the mishap. My husband devoured the banana pudding saying that it was REALLY good. The restaurant is always hopping every time we come and the wait staff is always super helpful and friendly. We have been coming for a few year now and it's always the same waitstaff which speaks highly of this establishment. We LOVE Saw's! There are two kinds of restaurant experiences: the ones where the food saves the service, and the ones where the server is out there fighting for their life while the kitchen is playing dodgeball with expectations. Saw's BBQ in Hoover landed squarely in category two. Chaz was fantastic from the jump. Attentive without hovering, knew the menu cold, steered us in the right direction, and honestly should probably be given partial ownership based on effort alone. Every recommendation he made ended up being the best thing we ate. We started with the fried green tomatoes, and buddy... the breading fled that tomato like the crew abandoning the Titanic. One bite and the whole crispy shell just slid off like it had somewhere else to be. Underneath was a tomato wondering how things got this bad. Not a strong start. The pulled chicken showed up next and somehow managed to achieve the culinary equivalent of elevator music. It wasn't bad. It also wasn't anything. Just sitting there existing on the plate with absolutely zero personality. If beige were a flavor, this would be its flagship product. Then Chaz's recommendations started rolling in and suddenly the kitchen remembered they could cook. The fried pickles were outstanding. Crisp, golden, crunchy, salty in all the right ways. Exactly what you want fried pickles to be. The fried okra though? That was the star of the night. Whole okra pods instead of those sad little slime coins you usually get. Crispy, seasoned well, breading actually staying attached like it understood the assignment. I could've eaten a bucket of those and started negotiating take-home rights. The okra saved the evening. Finished with the banana pudding, which was light and airy and a nice way to wrap things up. I wanted a little more banana flavor punching through, but it still worked as dessert after the rollercoaster happening before it. So here's the deal: Chaz earned every dollar of that tip. Some of the sides absolutely delivered. Some of the main attractions felt like they were clocking in emotionally from home. Would I come back? Yeah, probably. But next time I'm skipping the identity crisis chicken and just ordering every fried thing Chaz points at like he's conducting a very delicious orchestra. An average experience overall. read more

I know this is a BBQ joint but I adore their fried chicken!! This is my favorite chicken tender/ chicken sandwich spot EVER. It has amazing flavor, comes out super hot and juicy and perfectly crispy. It comes with 2 sides - and they're all so delicious. This time I got the Mac and cheese and baked beans. No complaints at all. I've tried saws a few times, my most recent order I tried the brisket baker with extra red sauce. I also ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream. Now the brisket baker was full of brisket and flavor. Saws brisket has been a favorite of mine recently and I highly recommend it. I also had the brussel sprouts for a side and I don't know what the sauce is that they put on them but it's so good. I order the brussel sprouts everytime. The peach cobbler was disappointing, it had no flavor , no aroma , very doughy and just not good. I took one bite and knew it wasn't it. The ice cream was good but I just wish the peach cobbler had more flavor and some crunch for texture. That is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. Get a bite with all four components, grits, pork, greens, onion straw, and a little sauce. That's almost a perfect bite. Fried okra or squash. The fried okra (only when in season) is some of the best fried okra I've ever had. Tacos! A new item. The sauce is great (I stick with mild) and I love the brisket for my meat. Mac and cheese. I had the smoked chicken plate with white sauce. I loved the smoked chicken in their white sauce is my favorite. Most white sauces that I get at other places are more of a vinegar taste. I got seated at a table, and I waited a while for someone to come to my table and take my drink and food order. So thankful to have a Saw's location in Hoover and south of I-459! Their smoked meats are some of the best anywhere, especially the pork and chicken. Tonight, I decided to try one of their burgers that I've heard so much about. The bacon cheeseburger was good, chargrilled crispy like a good smashburger with thick bacon and a hearty layer of cheddar cheese. But while it's a 7 out of 10 compared to other burgers, for my money I'll choose one of the BBQ meats at least 95% of the time I visit Saw's in the future. The service was excellent, but the ambience at this location is a little bland. Side note - the onion straws and fried pickles are both terrific especially when you dip them in Saw's white sauce! In the spirit of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics going on as of this writing, I have to give Saw's the gold medal for BBQ in Alabama. Their meats win in all categories! This Hoover location is in a shopping center with abundant parking. The walls were decorated with knickknacks, and there were a couple of TVs on here and there. The table service was characterized by efficiency and politeness. Hoover doesn't offer ribs sadly, though I know I could don a blindfold, drop my finger on the menu, and be content with whatever dish is underneath. The pork n' greens ($14) was edible awesomeness. You get to gobble down pulled pork perfection atop a lake of cheesy McEwen & Sons grits and greens. House barbecue sauce and slim crunchy onion rings round it all out. BBQ restaurants are like churches in Birmingham. It seems like there is one on every corner, and each have their devoted followers. SAWs is relatively new, and it is growing like a non-denominational cult. According to their website they began franchising in 2018, and at the time of this writing there are already six locations. This location is conveniently located in heart of Hoover. it is a spacious restaurant at the end of the strip center that is home to Best Buy and Chicken Salad Chicks. The restaurant is casual, and it has a seating hostess and offers table side wait service. My friend and I visited for lunch on Tuesday. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress was polite and helpful. I was impressed that the menu offers some unique items to separate it from typical southern BBQ staples. A few examples of this include Pot Likker BBQ Boiled Peanuts, Fried Green Tomato BLT, and Pork N' Greens. For my lunch, I ordered the Smoked Chicken Thigh Plate. I do prefer dark meat, so I was happy to have this option versus just breasts. The thighs are smoked and were very tender. The BBQ sauce (they call it their "red" sauce) on the chicken is sweet with a little bit of spice. It is topped with their "white" sauce. The white sauce is slightly creamy and has a hint of vinegar. I thought the sauces were good, and the chicken was very tasty. The plates include two sides. I choose the deviled eggs and BBQ pork rinds. The deviled eggs are a nice option, and pretty much what you expect. The pork rinds were fresh, and not greasy. The BBQ dusting on the rinds was that sweet and spicy mix. The greens on the pork and greens dish were so tender and flavorful with huge chunks of bacon in it. The pulled pork was so succulent and flavorful. The cheesy grits I could do without. It had a bit too much cheese in the formula. Brining chicken in sweet tea is a genius idea. It made the chicken extra juicy with a sweet note. The fried green tomatoes were excellent. If you only get to eat one thing, get this! I also had the chicken thighs with deviled eggs and coleslaw. The chicken was a winner as well! Tender, juicy, and flavorful. Leave the coleslaw and deviled eggs. Try something else for sides. My friend had something called the Pork and Greens. Beautifully served. He said the grits and every layer was delicious. So much food he couldn't even eat half! So share this dish! Atmosphere is a basic storefront with Alabama memorabilia around. I think some of the other locations may have more aesthetic appeal. Saw's BBQ is an iconic barbecue restaurant in the Birmingham, Alabama area and they have now opened a location in Hoover, Alabama. Hoover is a great suburb of Birmingham and I have noticed that a lot of the long-established Birmingham restaurants are opening locations in Hoover. As I sat down and the restaurant, I looked around and I would have to say that the decor is what you would expect from a barbecue restaurant. In Alabama, people are quite proud of their state and you will see various signs pointing towards that pride. One sign simply read "Sweet Home Alabama" and along the wall leaving to the bathrooms, they had a mural of Birmingham, Alabama. I had never been in Saw's BBQ before, surprisingly so. So I ask the server what she would recommend. Without hesitation, she said I should get the chicken thighs. Her exact words were "chicken thighs, all day long." Well, with a recommendation like that, how could I try anything else? For my sides, since I am trying to do more healthy, I went with their coleslaw and their turnip greens. The coleslaw was vinegar-based and was pretty good and their turnip greens were pretty exceptional. The chicken thighs were definitely worth the praise my server gave them and I am very happy that I selected them. The chicken thighs came with both a more vinegar-based sauce and Alabama white sauce, which is a staple here in Alabama which they put on their barbecue. Alabama white sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce if you are unfamiliar with it and I have to say that it is pretty incredible. All in all, Saw's BBQ is definitely worth the status it has been given as a top barbecue restaurant in the Birmingham, Alabama area and if you find yourself in this part of the world, I would definitely recommend here. read more
