Roger Stuart is a little hidden gem tucked away off of Los Angeles street and 7th avenue in the fashion district of Los Angeles. I had heard of this place past maple street and I drove here past all those sleazy fake "made in the middle east or asia-but we pretend its Italian wool- Suit brokers that sell you a suit for 100 bucks" places in LA Roger Stuart has a huuge selection. Its big, clean and the staff is very friendly. They have excellent quality suits and their prices are pretty affordable for the quality you get. I found a great wool suit for 150 bucks that doesn't look "cheap", it looks like something you would get from a more expensive place! Score! My only gripe is that some of their "Suits" are 400-500 bucks and they said "Its just like Zegna..." or "This is great, its like Armani suit..." hmm. not quite. I mean to spend 400-500 bucks to get a suit is a bit pricey. Don't get me wrong, their suits were nice, but you can go to the Macys Mens store in the Beverly Center or in San Francisco and even South Coast Plaza and when they have sales you can find a great suit for a similar Price. I mean I have found Suits by Joseph Abboud, Kenneth Cole and Ralph Lauren for 400-500 bucks at the Macys Mens Store sales, and these guys are charging the same price? Overall Roger Stuart is a pretty good place and the quality is pretty decent. The prices are ok, but not the best. Maybe I will find lower prices the next time, but for now I will say they are A ok. read more

I knew exactly what I wanted, the general manager eyed my size perfectly and found the suit without me having to browse, tried it on and it was perfect. Found a shirt and tie, and I'm out of there in 10 minutes with a suit, shirt, and tie for around $250. The kicker is, the man at the register wants to put my name into the computer system.... so he looks it up, and finds my GRANDFATHER in there. My grandfather died about a year ago... but he was a very classy dresser, had high standards for everything in his life, and was always dressed in slacks and a dress shirt. Now Roger Stuart would have gotten 5 stars for the service, price, expertise, and not giving me the used-car-salesman-schtick feel (like I've gotten at some suit stores)... but knowing that my grandfather, who I picture as the epitome of style and class, shopped there made this trip more than memorable... I got 3 sports coats from Roger Stuart for average of 120 each and splurged on a 399 coat that retails for 1500 to a vendor they sell to up north in Sausalito. My go to place for suits now. I only get the Emilio Yuste line. It is a bit pricier than other suits they have but still, much much cheaper than a similar suit you would get at like Nordstrom. These suits feel great and look great. One downside here is that there is no room for negotiation, such as when you buy more than 1 suit and willing to pay in cash. Another downside is their lack of suits with pleated pants. However, that's pretty much the case everywhere. Yes, I am old-school and like the look and feel of pleated; however, the last time I went, they didn't have any pleated and so I reluctantly purchased some suits with flat front pants. I guess it's time for me to get with the times and move away from pleated pants.... read more

If I persuade at least one person to shop somewhere else, I've done some good in this world. The absolute worst customer service I've ever received in any shopping experience! I would never recommend this store to anyone . First, the sales person I dealt with was so rude and smug. Extremely 'selly' and didn't listen to a word I said. Worse than a trip to the car dealership(no offense car dealers). Then, the manager was even worse. Yes, the suits are inexpensive, but the service is so bad I would rather spend a few more dollars and leave with a smile on my face instead of complete frustration. read more

My husband and I came down to your store last week and had a terrific experience! We had heard about your store on the radio and through word of mouth and it was worth the trip downtown. From the moment we stepped into the store we were greeted by a smiling salesman named David. He asked us what he could do for us. He proceeded to show my husband and I a variety of quality suits at reasonable prices. It isn't a great place to be but the store itself is a great place to go! Once we selected a suit, David showed us several shirts and ties to compliment the suit. The icing on the cake happened at the end of our visit. He walked my husband and I to the tailoring shop next door to get the suit altered. We were thrilled with the exceptional service and attention to all my husband's needs. Meh is a brilliant word for it. I've gotten better/more contemporary suits at Macy's which isn't saying much. They don't know how to fit you, so if you don't try something on (mainly shirts) expect to have to exchange. Pricing is not that competitive and a majority of the stuff is dated. Like 80's dated, not even a great decade for clothes. Suits may say Italian, but they have the feel and construction like they were made in the same sweatshops as Chinese stuff. And yeah, if you have to return or exchange, expect attitude. All in, there is just too much competition out there now. The store, the suits, and the experience need a makeover. read more

My dad has been going to Roger Stuart for decades, so I was a little worried they were going to dress me in a classic fit suit for someone twice my age. Not so. I knew what I wanted -- a dark, slim fit suit for a special occasion -- and that's exactly what I got. Once I told them what I needed and they sized me up, I was swimming in suits exactly like I was hoping for. This was pleasantly surprising considering I have a 10-inch drop (chest minus waist), which is double that of most guys. I felt the perfect balance of the help considering my own preferences while weighing in with his professional opinions (since I have little save what I've read in GQ...). He was clear and honest about the most minute aspects, and I could tell he wasn't going to let me walk out with anything less than the perfect suit. Once I had narrowed it down to a few, I tentatively asked about the prices, but I was shocked when he told me I wasn't holding anything more than $300, less than half of what I had been ready to pay other places. Once I finalized my decision, he told me where I could go for great shirts that would fit. He didn't try to push any accessories on me. He told me what tailoring I needed and where I should go (Richard's, half a block up LA street). When I tried on a few sport coats that caught my eye, he even politely told me that they didn't really suit my body. Bottom line, the few staff members I interacted with were friendly, very helpful, and honest even at the cost of making a sale, which is a rarity in the fashion district. This place is the real deal. Picked up a quality wool sportscoat here for well under half of what I had budgeted. Very helpful and professional staff and a massive selection of quality menswear. There are a lot of those "2 suits/$99!!!" places in this part of downtown but don't trust them, most of their stuff is polyester/rayon garbage. Roger Stuart doesn't stock anything that has man-made fibers, only Italian wool/silk. If you know what you're looking for definitely give this place a visit. These guys supply the department stores and have been in business for a long time, plus they own two factories. Cut out the middle man and go get a great looking suit/coat at an unbelievable price. read more

I took the suit to a tailor, asking if he could let it out an inch, and he said "NO PROBLEM!" This is a low-5-star rating but not 4-star, some slack belt loops in maybe 3 pairs have been weak and broken too soon. At 4-5 times the cost of Roger Stuart Nordstrom gets a 5-star men's clothing rating from me. I've been going to RS almost since arrival in LA 13 years ago. I mostly dress casually but need nice wool slacks and sports jackets about 50 days a year. RS is where I have purchased most of that type of attire and I most especially like the jackets. I buy wool/silk (Emilio Yuste label) or wool+some-other-natural-fiber (Chari label). All these years and they still look new. I am going back! read more

My friends and I were in the market for an inexpensive suit or sport coat. We decided to hit up Downtown's Fashion District and Santee. I'd been recommended to Roger Stuart by an acquaintance who knows a thing or two about suits, saw it was close by and decided to take a look. There are many decent looking places with fancy window displays up and down the street. Some have middle aged international types peddling their wares at store entrances, smoking a cigarette. A couple of blocks north of Olympic on Los Angeles St. I have to say that it does have a decent store front that exudes a bit of classic nostalgia but it doesn't stand out. As my friends and I walk in we're welcomed by a few older men and one guy that looks like a greasy used car salesman. I figure I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and proceeded to ask about a sport coat for my friend D. He asked his size and guided us down a row of jackets to put one on him. D's a slim built Asian and he looks like he's wearing coat from the 80s, huge shoulders! So I ask the salesman if they have any coats with American cut shoulders (more natural, little to no padding). He looks at me as if I'm speaking Klingon and asks me what I'm talking about so I explain. Nope. All the coats/ suits have the same shoulders he says. "What you're looking for is a slim suit", he goes for the up-sell. No we're not looking for that. The coat fit fine except for the shoulders. We decide to have a see anyway to see if it might work. Their least expensive was $299. That's not bad for a suit, and it looks decent but nothing to brag about, none of the details that make it worth than a $300 suit anywhere else. I ask him how much his suits without fused layers start at (better quality, something we're willing to pay for). Again he looks at me with a goofy look and asks me what I mean and "upon clarification" decides to throw out a number like $700. Maybe that's not bad for a non-fused suit, but at this point I'm thinking that he shouldn't be working here because he obviously doesn't know anything about suits or he's being a smart alack and doesn't think we're worth his time. That's a snapshot. Point: TERRIBLE customer service. The guy who was "helping" us had an attitude of superiority the whole time, wasn't helpful or attentive and it seemed like he was just trying to make a buck at our expense. Not the way to go. Santee ( Olympic really) might be grungy but at least there's shops there where the people treat you decent, and are straight forward about what they're selling. Add that to a suit, shirt, tie and tailoring for $155. I'll take that over Roger Stuart. It's not Italian or English, but I don't necessarily need that. I'll take that over Roger Stuart. Plus Roger Stuart's affordable suits aren't made in Europe either. Advice: learn what to look for in a suit and how much you're willing to sacrifice for your price point and hit up the shops west of Olympic at L. A. Street. read more

You get experienced salesmen....it's old school gentleman's shopping experience. Best part is no "hard sell" There are a couple other very good Italian men's suits store right around there check them all out. I went to seven men's stores and bought at this one, I think it's definitely one to see. No polyester here it's mostly wool. For $200 you could get two all wool suits. I got a wool silk jacket for $135. How bout dat huh? You ain'y gettin' no wool silk jacket at no fancy retail place for no $135 Also they got a big selection in every size. How bout that huh? Not like two or three things your size. Like one of everything in your size how bout dat huh? An I got my two shirts an my jacket tailored next door for $42 WHILE I waits how bout dat huh? Some dude at some Mens Whateverhouse man they want a week to tailor somethin I said I could steal a car in five minutes i ain't waitin a weeks for no tailorin how bout dat huh? More conservative style than many other places so if you want more fashion forward check out some of the other places on Los Angeles Street between 7th and 8th . They carry high-quality suits at various price points that will fit most budgets. This store is different than other stores in the area that sell suits at cheap prices. The quality doesn't compare. It's been a long, long time since *any* retail establishment impressed me as much as Roger Stuart Clothes. I arrived in L.A. for a brief stay with only casual clothes in my suitcase. During day two of my stay, I found out that I'd need to "dress up" the very next night. I literally had only jeans and Hawaiian shirts with me (and luckily one pair of nice trousers). To compound matters, I'm a "big" guy....I can't go into just any department store and buy clothes off the rack. I don't tend to have very good luck with the usual "big & tall" places, so I got creative and Googled "fine men's clothing", "big sizes", etc. I came up with "Roger Stuart Clothes" and called. The salesman on the line was friendly and encouraging. Time was short that afternoon, but we hit the road and arrived at about 5PM. I explained my dilemma and everyone there jumped to accommodate me. I not only found one sports coat I liked, I found THREE. Yes, they also fitted me with a lovely dress shirt and appropriate tie. The coats needed some minor alteration... NO WORRIES! Salesman Reese Walker personally took me several doors down to a tailor who agreed do the work overnight. We were in and out of the store AND the tailor shop before Roger Stuart Clothes' closing time of 5:30PM. I don't think I've EVER managed such a quick buying experience, even when I was buying only a pair of socks! I went back the next morning to pick up my coats and everything was ready and PERFECT. I will definitely visit Roger Stuart Clothes next time I'm in L.A. when I have more time to spend. The entire sales staff was friendly and helpful. The prices - especially when compared with usual "Big & Tall" prices - were an *extremely* pleasant surprise. I paid less for the three sports coats at Roger Stuart than I paid previously for a single sports coat at one of the "chain" Big & Tall stores....and I'm convinced all three coats are of superior quality than what I've gotten previously. I get out to L.A. maybe once every year or so, and there are several places that are on my "to visit" list each time. Roger Stuart Clothes now joins that permanent list. Located in the Fashion District of Los Angeles, this suit store has been around for quite some time. While before it was one of the few stores that one could get a decently made suit at a reasonable price, there are now countless places at which to do your suit shopping business. When you walk in you are greeted with a rather dated interior. Initially you need to be buzzed in, and I am sure that they installed the buzzer on the door so that they did not have to let everyone in. You are then greeted by racks of suits as well as the expected salesmen. In my experience, I was fortunate to have a rather unpleasant fellow for a salesman. I wish that I had gotten his name because he needs to be put on blast for how awful he is. In any case, if you find a hunched old (I am guessing) Jewish salesman, let me get his name so that he can have it proclaimed to the Yelp masses. So as a background, I was going there as part of a group because we were buying for a wedding party. That obviously means that the suits will need to match each other. But that also means that it's a big sale because that is a whole bunch of suits at once. Here are some reasons for why my mysterious salesman is such a horrible salesman: 1) He could not even fit us properly. He measured us and gave us our sizes. Unfortunately they were not even correct. He gave us jackets to try on, and he was wrong on the majority of us. When we tried the jackets on he seemed to think that they looked just fine. However opinions from other people there were quite contrary to this. 2) He was not helpful. In that entire store, he told us that he only had a single suit that he can get the same for the whole group. We asked to see other suits and styles, but he seemed to think that an outrageous thought. 3) When I was looking at the 38R section (even though he measured me at a 40R), he thought that I was looking at the huge sizes. He asked why I was looking in that section, and I told him that I had tried on a suit that was 38R that looked better. This seemed to offend him, and he retorted that I could do whatever I wanted to. Well thanks, bud, I will! 4) He was mocking one of the guys in the group who wanted a size larger than what the salesman had measured him at. Yeah, that's going to drum up the business. On top of all of this, the prices were not even cheap. I could do better (with an amazingly better experience I am sure) at a department store. So I gain absolutely nothing by going to Roger Stuart. Maybe if the salesman was helpful, I could give him some credit. Or maybe if he was just simply nice, I could say that about him. But he was the worst of all possible aspects. He was rude, incompetent, and crotchety. I am surprised that we stayed in the store for as long as we did. Obviously, though, we did not make any purchases. I don't know why the experience was so bad. It could have been just that salesman. It could have been a bad day for him. Or maybe we can just chalk it up to some good old fashioned racism (we were all Chinese). Am I ever going to go back? No way. Was it worth the time to come onto Yelp and write a bad review? Now a bait and switch house, not what it used to be. H. Stern made these guys but the times they have changed. They have a very broad selection of inventory. They run the gamut from affordable to high end. I was looking for a couple of sport coats and drove up from SD to get a deal. Hundreds of sport coats. The generic (but nice) Philippine and Indonesian made jackets all have price tags- $99 to $109 on up to to less that $200. The coats I selected had no price tags, "no worries" they tell me, we'll check you out at the counter. I get to the counter and every coat I liked was $389 each. For that kind of money I should have stayed in San Diego and bought as nice oe nicer coats at the Norstrom rack. It was not a worthwhile trip. Last time for me in that place. Additionally, they have nice quality slacks- priced at $80 to $95 - again these are the same prices as discounted Nordstroms or Saks. read more
