When you feel blue and really need a pick up activity, this is the place to go. You will nature compeling, calling you, offering you that feeling of harmony and love that you were missing. This botanical venue is the largest in all New Englad. We are touchy to have it. Me personally I purchased the a manual pass with gives you two extra tickets for guests to use when you feel like. I find this venue a place for peace and tranquility a place were you can scape from the world and be in touch with nature. Can't wait to visit once more. read more

I wanted to pay a visit to the goats they have outside the botanical gardens so we ended up going in to check out the holiday displays. The botanical gardens are much more spacious than I remember there are 4 different greenhouses with a wide variety of tropical plants, trees, a kid's play space, and an herb and vegetable garden. They even have a mini koi pond with some huge koi. Everything was decorated for the holidays with multiple christmas trees, several different train sets and poinsettias everywhere. One of the train sets has a model city that is supposed to look like Providence. I love model trains so this was fun to see. I do wish they had made the settings a little bit more detailed and realistic. Overall a very cool place and a nice retreat from the coldness of winter. It's very warm and humid in there so it really does feel like you're somewhere tropical. They have some truly gigantic monsteras, jade trees and elephant ear plants. Definitely inspiring for my home plant collection! I had no idea how huge some of these plants could get under the right conditions. I do wish there were more labels on the plants - we found some interesting trees (a fruit tree that was maybe papaya) but there was no sign to indicate what it was. I have been trying to get back to the Botanical Garden for a while now! So happy I finally took a trip! Meg M and I did a fun Providence day and obviously this had to be included! We got lucky because it was fairy week! They had activities for kids too. The garden itself is stunning but the fairies were an amazing addition. This is a very nice park with a zoo, botanical garden, swan boats, museum, ponds, walking trails, and more, but it can be very busy and noisy from traffic. We've been here several times and greatly enjoy the botanical garden. The zoo was featuring a temporary dinosaur exhibit, which likely added to the traffic. Weekends draw crowds, and long lines of cars entering, navigating and exiting the park. The park is somewhat long and narrow, so the traffic feels somewhat omnipresent. That said, during quieter periods, this can be a lovely park to visit. read more

10 stars if I could! I am absolutely in love with this botanical garden, it's absolutely beautiful. They upkeep it very well and there's so much to see and do. It's literally only five dollars for adults and even cheaper for children and you can literally have a great time. I came here once with my mother and it was just a beautiful place. Everything was bloomed. And there was so much going on. It's very beautiful and a great place for pictures. I love how well maintained it is. They also have special events so be sure to check the website. This place isn't just for adults it's for children as well. They have activities for kids. They have animals such as goats. And from the outside, it looks so small but once you get in there, there's just so much to look at. The only downside is the parking lot is very small and it fills up pretty quickly, but you can park on the street. And the second time that I came here was for my college graduation pictures and they came out absolutely magnificent. I also saw a few other graduates as well taking pictures there. This is just a great place to get beautiful images. A lot of free open space you're not congested with a whole bunch of other people. I really love the fact that this botanical garden is kept at a low price, but is up kept so well. There is quite a few different areas with different things. They have a kids section. They have vegetables they have tons of plants. They have animals here and there, they have a little waterfall and from what I've seen they will do wedding receptions, and private events and stuff like that. So when you're in Roger Williams Park, you don't just have to go to the zoo. You can visit the botanical garden and it's so much fun and just beautiful to see. I also recommend if you want to take pictures. This is the place to go. There's several areas especially when things are bloomed. There's so much space here that you'll find great areas to take pictures. There's even a gazebo area as well with chairs that's a great spot for pictures as well. They just so happen to be walking the goats the day I went while I was taking my graduation pictures so I did get some pictures with the goats as well which was very nice. read more

I went to the RWP Botanical to hear Jazz. The entrance is $5 and the Jazz was free to listen to. I wasn't expecting to stay after the Jazz session but the place is so beautiful and tranquil I had to walk thru. As a nature girls there is so much to enjoy. Flowers, plants of all kinds. Seating thru-out to just sit and enjoy. The outside grounds is just as enjoyable as the botanical. There is an event tent and a gazebo to sit. I even got to meditate. For $5 it is well worth it, I was able to relax, sit with nature and just enjoy. I will definitely be back with a book to enjoy. I have also donated some of my plants to the botanical. This Botanical Garden has some nice greenhouses where you can admire some orchids, Koi fish, tropical plants, etc... The signs for plants and flowers have increased since my last visit, but still lacking....only about 10% of the flora that I saw had any labeling regarding name, region where it comes from, etc. I feel like I am walking in a park, rather than a Botanical Garden. Sometimes they have concerts and event in here.... When I compare this park to the ones in cities like St Louis, MO or Montreal QC, I can see lots of room for improvement. read more

The Botanical Center in Roger Williams Park is larger than you might expect, with a number of different greenhouses all connected together.  Within you'll find some intriguing plants to look at, and seveal good spots for photo ops. Tip: The Center is connected to Roger Williams Park, where  you'll find a number of different activities to partake of; I highly recommend checking out the Carousel and the paddle boats there. I have been a member for several years- $25 per year is a steal of a deal to have access to such a gorgeous space! A visiting friend and I went there this week - I was blown away with how spiffy and luscious the center is now looking. If you have never visited, go! They recently redid the children's area which is adorable and my daughter could spend hours in. Great place to spend a few hours. Learned about plants and enjoyed my time just sitting and wandering through the greenhouses. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wish there were more informational signs or information available without checking my phone. There is still PLENTY to see in winter and the three adorable goats is a huge plus. Affordable family outing and a perfect place for a box lunch or picnic. Give yourself at LEAST an hour to experience everything inside, and probably more in the summer for the outdoor exhibits. Staff were very friendly and the bathrooms were clean and convenient. The RWP Botanical Garden hosted an event on Mother's day weekend that checked all the boxes for us: - Visiting a new place CHECK! - Alice in Wonderland themed (specifically good for the kids but enjoyable for adults as well!) CHECK! - Affordable CHECK! - Get the kids outside CHECK! - A Nice way for everyone to spend time together with Grandma CHECK! Wonderland in the Gardens appeared in my FB thread and I instantly became excited. I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale and I set it up for the grandkids to spend time with their grandmother on Mother's Day weekend. Plenty of parking for the event. They took adults temps upon entering. we were immediately greeted by the White Rabbit. He was extremely funny and great with the kids. As we continued on the event unfolded as a meet and greet with characters from Alice In wonderland all while getting the opportunity to see the grounds. We got some great pictures! At the end there was an activity- an adapted kids kickball version of croquet which the kids loved! All the people involved were very friendly and kept to their character. Pretty nice costumes and very understanding that the little one didn't quite get Covid boundaries (my niece is a hugger!) It was just enough for our group time wise, amount of walking and to meet all of our abilities. Was it a mistake to visit a botanical garden in the dead of winter? While the outdoor gardens may be resting up for the season, the warm tropical greenhouse is actually the ideal destination for a cold Providence winter day. This is Providence after all, so this isn't the largest or most comprehensive botanical garden in the country. If you go in with the right expectations, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this beautiful, well-kept oasis! The 3 greenhouses are split into many diverse areas like a koi pond, a cactus garden, a bog with carnivorous plants, and more. Especially stunning are the large, old plants that have probably been growing here for decades. There's a giant palm, blue agave, banana trees, monsteras, and more! Like another reviewer mentioned, there could be more informative labels on the plants. Generally only about 1 in every 10 plants has a label on it, so you have to use your background knowledge of plants or your creative imagination! Admission is only $5-it doesn't get much more affordable than that! It took me about 45 minutes to walk through the greenhouses. It would probably be a longer visit if the outdoor areas (rose garden, Asian garden, etc) were in season. Overall this is one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in Providence. With the affordable admission price, I'll definitely come back again and again whenever I need a little getaway! read more

The spot is amazing for the winter blues. It is only open on weekends during Covid and you need to make a reservation in advance. It's five dollars a visit or a membership for the year is $25. This is a lovely spot. The plants are well taken care of and it's warm. I wish that more of the plants were labeled. Maybe that something they can work on for the future? read more

I came here alone and it ended up being one of the most enjoyable and peaceful experiences I've had. There were an abundance of lovely flowers to take pictures of and I was so excited to be able to go around to the many different greenhouses and take pictures of them. Visited this winter and was extremely excited to wander around once we received the map (as it displayed many locations to visit). However, only some of the greenhouses were setup and others were a bit messy with furniture and boxes as I imagine they are setting up for warmer seasons. A nice thing to do but certainly not the thing to come & expect to wander around for a couple hours, at least not in the winter! Would like to come in the summer and see it when the greenhouses are in full bloom. read more

What a beautiful setup. We went on a Fri, mid afternoon so don't know if this place gets packed or not but it was so calming and peaceful that I found myself at one point sitting down and just chuckling at the serenity. Did not get to explore the whole place but the few sections we went into were quite lovely. There were a few regular visitors, a guy with a ridiculously expensive looking camera setup taking what I assume are VERY closeups, a couple planning a wedding and I counted four people hanging around painting pictures. That to me was the niftiest part, people just hanging out passing time while painting flowers or whatever. I saw two acrylics and two watercolors and the nosy part of me found the paintings to be quite lovely. There was also a volunteer with two special needs people tending to the goats in a little pavilion area outside. I got one of the goats names, Jean Ralphio, and that made me....COMPLETELY HAPPPYYYYYY! (it's a parks n rec joke do yourself a favor and watch that show) Only downside, but not really, was they had the stereo speakers pumping out some generic classic rock station complete with loud auto sales commercials. Would have been much better tuned to a classical station. But that does not warrant losing a star. read more

Who would have thought that in our tiny town of Providence that there would be a zoo and a botanical gardens? Many of you living here since you were born probably didn't even know that either I bet! The botanical gardens is on the smaller side but still a pretty nice place to walk around. Pay $5 at the entrance (closed Mondays) and walk in. You can spend about 45 min here and fully experience all the great plant life in the garden. First walk over to the rose maze which has beautifully colored roses. Maybe not the rarest or the most exotic but still quite the site to see when they are all in bloom. Walk up the hill towards the greenhouses where you'll see different types of palms/cycads, succulents/cactuses, carnivorous plants and orchids. I believe all in all they have about 3 greenhouses for you to walk through. It's a easy walk with tons of beautiful plants that line your path there. They also have a pretty large koi pond inside with koi that are probably a few pounds. The best plants, IMHO, were those that you saw along the path. The trees were gorgeous and you can see different types of bees humming around the flowers. If you're into photography you'll have some great pictures there! Answer a survey on the way out and get a free packet of seeds. Plenty of parking. No trashcans in the garden so throw away your trash before you go in. Nice day trip and worth the stop! read more

Those of us with four eyes must first patiently wait for the fog to clear. Those that do not require corrective lenses should know that the phenomenon that causes spurts of blurry vision is due to the drastic shift in temperature from outside to in. As soon as the fog clears, it as if you stepped into a temporary paradise. The botanical garden looks and feels as if you are outdoors, but the warmth that engulfs you there in Lower Elmwood, mid-December, reminds you that this is not the case. The water features and high ceiling of the main entrance are enough (combined again with the pleasant temps) are worth the price of admission alone. Although I have never been to an event here, they must be a blast. The cacti and exotic flora are so tempting to reach out and touch. But don't. Wonderful, inexpensive retreat for those of us whose schedules do not permit a proper vacation. Sad, but not really. read more

This is such a beautiful Park and so well kept up. It really is the pride of Rhode Island. There's so much to do here from the Swan Boats to the carousel and the little train and the amazing zoo. There are acres of beautifully kept Lawns with trees where you can have a picnic or just lie under a tree and sleep or listen to music. It is a maze to drive through but around every corner you see something beautiful like the Japanese gardens and the historical buildings that are on the site. You can rent the casino for weddings or events and it is absolutely stunning. Such a well-used park and I'm always happy to see that when I go there. We love our park around here and I am so glad that it is so well kept especially at this time when there's nowhere else to go and not much else to do. read more

The botanical garden is literally a breath of fresh air. It is so enjoyable, warm, lush and colorful on a winters day. There are benches in almost every room for one to sit and enjoy the environment. You can bring a tea, coffee, lunch whatever to enjoy. My suggestion come on a sunny winter day, the sun feels amazing. There are 2 buildings with 6 rooms to enjoy. I love the Botanical Center! It is so beautiful and such an unexpected addition to the park. The architecture is beautiful and I think really makes an impression when you pull up. The interior is exactly what you would expect but throw in a few fountains and a coy pond. I am having my wedding ceremony here. You can also have your wedding reception here but it is a green house which means whatever the weather is outside it is at least that temperature inside. That could make for a really hot wedding reception and not in a good way. read more

I attend a fund-raiser here and the greenhouses are beautiful! The space managed to not be hot, stuffy, or smell of wet earth so those that aren't gardening fiends will be comfortable. My date and I found a bench right near he banana trees and talked for a long while. Even with the hustle and bustle of the event, it felt serene and intimate. I believe there is a nominal fee to get in. My suggestion would be to use the park for its more common recreational activities (biking, boating, etc.) and then swing by here to relax and connect with nature (or a hottie). Or you could have a nice picnic in the park and then bring your date here. Perfect setting to tell someone how no flower on Earth can compare with their beauty, or something a little less cheesy. read more
