It was clean but I felt the entire place was a free for all. I am not a big group type person and was kind of retreated and stuck in my room. Then the main house is huge and beautiful but the community rooms were messy- the kitchen was just gross in the middle of the day. There was a vending machine but the one breakfast offered was NOT at an appropriate time for me or my daughter. I eat before 8am and I could have made it until 9 am but the cooking wasn't even started and the kitchen was still trashed by 10 am the next morning. There was still a stinky pizza box on the counter when I was looking for a cup of coffee and we had left to eat every single time so we had eaten by the time the breakfast was being started and the guy cooking (NOT THE REGULAR CHEF) wasn't even started by 9:30 and honestly looked hung over as heck. I do not feel I got a $300 experience at all. It felt like I went to a big house party and paid too much to be there. I could have had a better time at a private air BnB where I had to cook and clean myself. I am not exaggerating even a little this was a horrible experience for me and even if they offered me a free stay there another time I would absolutely decline to do so. The whole thing taught me that I am not a bed and breakfast type person unless breakfast is before 8am and the people running the place are WAY MORE TIDY; (at least having coffee made earlier than 8am); I didn't enjoy my stay the way I had hoped I would and it wasn't comfortable enough to lounge at for me. I thought it would be great for my service dog also and he didn't mind the festival going on but this place isn't designed to have a festival. There isn't enough space. Other people were just hanging out everywhere also smoking cigs. Yuck! I am fine with. Cannabis anything but cigarettes in my breathing air is not ok with me. Ever. So if I have to smell that I will not be pleased. It could prossibly be better on a weekend when there isn't anything extra happening. The event was a complete joke but that absolutely wasn't because of the Inn or any of the Inn staff but it ruined my experience. In fact I spent all day in Manitou not at the festival. The town is amazing and fun it was the best part of our trip being anywhere but our room. NOTICE: I did get to meet the regular chef from the Inn he was kind and friendly but definitely frustrated himself over it all. So, I am sorry I have to leave this review but it absolutely is not some place I would recommend now. It really was filthy in the main house. I wish I had been there when the regular staff was in charge. I had a better stay at the La Quinta in Pueblo on the way to Manitou and that isn't much so hand up I have to be honest and this was my real experience. There are no pictures of my room or the house because like I said I was not even impressed enough to take one. Not even one. The pictures posted by others is real but they got the clean version not weekend at Bernie's like me.

Although the rooms were nice, we were disappointed with a number of things: First, it was evident that there was little to no communication between Sun Mountain Center and Sun Water Spa. The two entities claim to be "sister businesses," but almost a week after our stay, I am still trying to get in touch with the Spa with regard to the "discount" we were supposed to have received because we were lodging at the Center. Secondly, none of us were greeted by anyone at any point during our stay at the Center. Although the rooms were comfortable, the reception was quite cold. Lastly, we are a group of five women who thrive from being with one another. After asking various members of the staff via phone if the suite could accommodate five people, we were told that we would have to purchase two rooms. (We were more than happy to pay for a fifth in the suite "for four" we had reserved.) The suite "for four" was enormous. We could have easily fit five (or more) people in one room. We understand Sun Mountain Center is a business and has to run accordingly, but we certainly didn't feel like our stay was a priority. I am a yoga instructor and also have a travel company. I frequently search for places to send my clients and I am in constant communication with lodging facilities around the world. I know how facilities should welcome and treat their clients and Sun Mountain Center fell short, hence my "three star" rating. Stay at Sun Mountain Center. Enjoy the food and the hot tub, just don't expect a warm greeting or flexibility in your accommodations.

The timing was especially perfect because they were offering a water aerobics class that day, which is something she already loves, and she had a great time participating. Since I wasn't going with her, I was a little nervous about sending her somewhere unfamiliar and hoping she would know where to go and what was available. That worry was completely unnecessary. She said she was warmly greeted, helped when she arrived, and checked on throughout the day without it ever feeling excessive. She felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. She also tried one of the wellness amenities, including the leg massager, which she loved, and had a really great lunch while she was there. She called me almost immediately after getting home just to tell me how much she enjoyed the entire experience, especially the pool and aqua class. As the person who bought this as a gift, I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. It gave her a relaxing, fun birthday experience and introduced her to a place in her own city that she now loves. Food was still a bit cold. Cheeses, meats, fruits still looked like it had been sitting out a bit, and flavors were lacking. They had a prime rib station with horseradish sauce and au jus. Unfortunately, the au jus was a very thick gloopy gravy--borderline a solid. The price tag for brunch was super expensive, and definitely not worth it. At one point my coat had fallen while we were packing up the car. It had my gloves and wallet in the pockets. Luckily, the housekeeping staff had turned it in with everything in tact and held at the front counter for us. That was a great bit of service.

You can book a room at Glen Eyrie without even realizing that it is the headquarters of the Navigators. Their mission is "To know Christ and make Him known, and help others do the same." During the checkin process, the lady with the Tammy Baker mascara told us "no drugs or alcohol are permitted on the property." I wasn't sure if I should be offended because I'm not sure if they tell everyone that. Another employee, a gray-haired older gentleman, sat there with his arms crossed and glared at us without blinking until we headed to our room. Past the castle foyer and down the halls where the guest rooms are located, the ambience is more like a youth hostel in a retirement home. The room was stuffy and stale smelling, there was no AC, and I couldn't figure out how to open the window. It inspired me to save the romance for later and stay outside, enjoying the grounds and until dark. Fortunately, I came prepared with six different prohibited substances, and made sure we picked up a bottle of wine when we came back from dinner. The mascara lady made sure tell us there is no tv in the room. I wish I would have told her that we can enjoy ourselves plenty without one. Breakfast is served in the King James dining hall from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. I was prepared for it to be really weird, anticipating that someone was going to help us to know Jesus, invite us to church, or ask us where we attend. I carefully curated our responses, and couldn't wait for someone to ask but no one did. Instead, we sat there and tried to guess which guests had successfully prayed the gay away and which guests had booked on booking.com and also had no idea who the Navigators are. I was so disappointed I wasn't able to use any of my invented narrative or whip out my phone to show them my ancestry.com app and impress them with the fact that King James of the KJV bible and the namesake of their splendid dining hall is actually my 15th great grandfather. Sigh, no one cared. I was sick to my stomach for the rest of the day from that breakfast buffet, particularly the mysterious José Olé freezer burrito with sprinkled with micro greens Because it was kind of creepy that we had to sign all of those safety release papers, I felt unsafe until we were off the property, and past the Colorado Springs Focus on the Family freeway exit sign. There was something magical about the weekend, not sure if it was the hospitality ministry or the contraband. When I stopped having diarrhea later at home, my Apple Watch said my blood oxygen levels were 100% and my resting heart rate was 53. I will never return to Glen Eyrie, but feel blessed to have had this experience to share with others.
