    Avocado Toast
    Amanda M.

I went to this location yesterday before an appointment I had in the area. I ordered a white chocolate latte with avocado toast. The latte: I had requested it be made with oatmilk and I sure got my money's worth! It was far more "milky" than coffee. I guess that's what you get nowadays with flavored coffees. I'd of liked something more indicative of having coffee in it. It was okay. Just tasted like milk with coffee in it, not the other way around. The avocado toast: this was the true offender to my time there. After waiting a bit while they were busy with a rush, my avocado toast came out. It was A slice of toast. Not two slices but just a single thin slice of sourdough. I don't mind small portions, but it better be incredible. It was not. The sourdough was thin sliced and toasted with some char I guess to make it rustic. Topped with what I will give them as a thin layer of perfectly ripe avocado. What I didn't like was the scant sprinkles of red bell peppers and a mix that had caraway seeds like that used in rye bread. Neither were enough to impart ANY flavor. It was bland. Flat. It had no brightness, no acid to contrast the flavor. When I make avocado toast at home on sourdough, I'll rub it with raw garlic, grate some lemon zest and drip some juice down on the avocado. Chili crisp oil is a great way of adding flavor and making it pop with color. I sprinkle Maldon salt over, this was salted VERY lightly as you can see in the pictures. My slice cost $10.99 I thought the caraway seeds were interesting but put the avocado toast on rye bread if you're going to do that. There wasn't enough to even impart flavor. That was the biggest issue "WHERE IS THE FLAVOR?" This was devoid of flavor and tasted like something I could grab from Starbucks. I was very disappointed in my meal after seeing all the baked goods, I thought I'd found something good. For $10.99 I got a semi burnt thin slice sourdough with a thin layer of avocado and toppings that made no sense. WHERE IS THE FLAVOR PEOPLE? You have a great location, pretty looking baked goods. Do better. This is supposed to be a Bistro, Cafe and Bakery. I think there's too many things going on there. Pick one and do that one thing well. 3 things aren't working.

    Bread pudding

My husband and I heard of Roggenart and tried it for the first time on a Sunday around noonish. We both got croissant breakfast sandwiches plus a latte. Soooo good! My husband loves bread pudding so he got their bread pudding drizzled with caramel sauce. AMAZING! Service was prompt and polite. Restaurant is cozy and great energy. We went on a day the Cubs played and found street parking. We will be back!!!

There's a fair amount of seating considering the size of the place. Wasn't able to get a spot today unfortunately, but we did go at a busy time on a Sunday morning. I got the honey and lavender specialty latte with soy milk. I get mixed feelings about lavender - sometimes it tastes pretty soapy to me. I thought this was delicious! I'd definitely order again and recommend it. Overall, definitely recommend this spot especially if you're able to get a couch or table to enjoy the space!

Even though we were seated at a regular table, the place had a comfortable vibe and it was easy to settle into. The counter women were efficient, nice, and filled our orders promptly. They did give my friend the wrong size coffee at first, but corrected it quickly and without any problem. One thing I didn't love: my cappuccino was served in a Styrofoam cup while we were staying there. If you're drinking in, it really should come on a ceramic cup and saucer. Save the Styrofoam for takeout! The best part was that we stayed for a couple of hours and no one hovered over us, or made us feel like we had to leave. As for the coffee itself, it was just okay. Not bad, but not memorable either. That's a shame too, because the space is so comfy. Still, there are plenty of other coffee spots on the North Side - and this just gives me a reason to explore others in the neighborhood.

This is my absolute most favorite bakery. So this is my ode to the bakery and Dom, who is a gem of…read morean employee there. I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

For my graduation cake, I chose the tres leches and it was so creamy, moist, and delicious. I basically ate half of the cake by myself lol. This most recent time, I needed a snack and wanted something sweet. Everything here looks amazing and I'm sure tastes amazing too, so it's hard to choose. I chose to get the berry chantilly cake slice since it was a hot day, and it was the perfect refreshing treat! It was soooo good.
