Based on my interaction with Star Body Works, I question their ability to repair Teslas at an…read moreaffordable cost. I dinged my rear door a few weeks ago - nothing major, but body work can be expensive. Tesla in the Bay Area gave me an estimate for $4,200. I thought surely the job would be cheaper in Southern Oregon since body shops don't have a captive market like Tesla, and Southern Oregon labor rates should be dramatically lower than the bay area. I guess I was wrong since Star's estimate was 50% more expensive than Tesla San Jose. Why? Star's estimate included significantly more labor hours, including for portions of the car nowhere near the site of the damage. That's a head scratcher. In addition, I suppose it's possible Tesla has access to technologies not available to Star, but this is body work on a rear door we're talking about - nothing requiring exotic technologies. Anyway, lesson learned. I'll take my Tesla down to the bay area for the work with the satisfaction that the work is being done by the manufacturer and I'll save over $2K in the process. Oh, one more thing. Star Body Works posts in public view their labor rates. Bonus points for transparency. That said, they have two sets of published rates - one set of rates for normal cars and one set for "Luxury & EV cars" which are about 35% more expensive than the non-luxury cars. Why? If these cars are more complex Star should simply use more labor hours than the simpler cars. Why charge a substantially higher labor rate for paint, body, mechanical, etc.? This makes no sense. These guys might be great. I'll never know. But if you own a Tesla (or perhaps a "luxury vehicle") you might want to look around for a quality job at competitive rates.

Their estimate was $3100+ 2 other auto body shop estimates were less than $1000. Star is in the business of milking the insurance companies. They make estimates and turn those in for insurance payments and,as a result generally get what they estimate. Please stay away from this place. They do have a very nice building and waiting room I wonder how those were paid for!!

My car was damaged due to high winds in early January…read more Insurance company offered 'Star' or 'Lithia' to do the repair work. Got estimate at Star of $5000 & $4000 from Lithia so decided to help my insuarnce company by choosing Lithia. After keeping my car for a week it turned out that they missed MANY of the scratches and I had to go back. They now held my vehicle for ANOTHER solid week & yesterday I had to point out that they STILL missed some of the scratches. I haven't been able to recover my vehicle yet. It is now nearing the end of April. Hindsight being 20/20 I will use Star or another body shop in the future.

So I explained to him that if it wasn't worth his time or if it just made more sense to pass on this job JUST BE HONEST AND LET ME KNOW. He assured me that he was still waiting on a call. It's now close to the middle of May and since then I've heard nothing. Ghosted. Unprofessional customer service. The kind of customer service that makes you feel a certain way. Like you did something wrong by just trying to give them business. I don't recommend. How hard is it to pick up the phone and be about your word and let someone know what's up?

The plastic lenses dull the ability for light to illuminate the road properly. I see them on a lot of vehicles on the road. I'm surprised they can see the road, some are so bad?? Then to write a new estimate with the correct repairs it took an additional 30 mins and a significant up charge on the total cost. I got a second quote done somewhere else that was 2 grand less than this place. I would not recommend.
