Well THAT was not what I expected artistically and I am really glad we went. Spur of the moment decision by some friends to try this out last Sunday. Have been to many other pottery/paint type events but none with sgraffito. The technique involves scratching thru an outer paint layer to reveal the clay underneath with or without a splash of color. It was a fun group of strangers who shared their art and ideas freely while we created and enjoyed some adult beverages. Ben is super supportive, explains everything in detail and makes you feel confident as you create your own masterpiece. My only regret is not having a better idea of the type of pattern I wanted to create. I intend to return (this time with photos for inspiration) and cannot wait to see my created piece. read more

Ben is an incredibly talented artist, but what he really excels at is helping to draw out the artist in YOU. I have seen the pieces of so many people who have participated in his events and while some are more elaborate than others, even the more simple designs are always beautiful!! The experience is amazing, but the quality of the canvas that Ben provides is also top notch! I purchased a sasquatch mug for my brother in-law (a rather rugged individual who is more than accident prone) and it's his favorite mug, which, though it has been dropped on several occasions, is still perfectly intact! I'm in absolute love with the mug I made at Ben's Sgrafitto party. It now sits right next to my sink and has become my go-to mug for drinking water. I find I like drinking water more out of a clay vessel than out of glass--somehow it tastes better! This is helping me to drink more water.
