Came here for veggie sushi rolls late at night on a craving. Not cheap, but it was good and fresh.

This place is amazing! We stayed at the hotel next to the restaurant and were looking something quick and close for dinner. Coming from Southern California, we are picky with our Asian food. But this place totally surprised us. The Popcorn chicken has good flavor and tasted authentic. We also had the steam pork bun which was very yummy. The restaurant was spacious and has good ambiance. I've been here a couple of times, both to eat in as well as takeout. Each time I have only had the sushi and have not yet tried what is supposedly their main cuisine, Ramen. The sushi has always been very fresh and well prepared. The reason for four instead of five stars is that the rolls are smaller than most any other place you'll go to. On our last visit, we had the avocado and mixed green salad with ginger dressing. They gave a very generous amount of avocado, fresh mixed greens, and the ginger dressing was, as you would expect, very good. The sushi menu includes many basic rolls, and a few of the larger rolls +5 or 6 that you may never have seen before. I don't usually go for anything but basic roles, but decided to try the Apple Jack roll this time. It's quite good with the wasabi cream and pistachios on top. I'm normally a spicy miso fan but the spicy option available felt a little too heated for my palate from the description so I went for the tonkatsu. Hands down my favorite ramen joint for tonkatsu ramen. The broth was creamy and hearty while the noodles the perfect bouncy texture. The roast pork belly and soft boiled egg was marinated flavorfully. Thin slicing of the pork combined with the bit of fat made each piece just melt in your mouth. It was a perfect compliment to the rich broth and the noodles. The pork belly within the buns were a little underwhelming though when combined with the softness of the bun. Would be better balanced with an Asian style pickled slaw. Gyoza was pretty standard and the popcorn chicken was a little too heavy handed with the five spice. The strawberry lemon tea was phenomenally refreshing and the right balance of sweet and tart. The brown sugar bubble tea was a little underwhelming and the brown sugar syrup tasted a little watered down. Overall a very pleasant experience that is well worth five stars when sticking to the ramen entrees. Would most definitely return! read more

Pretty good ramen, I never feel like there is enough egg or little hits in most ramens so this is no exception. But the broth was nice and it was good overall. The takoyaki balls were delicious, better than I had previously had elsewhere. The bubble tea was tasty, took it to go. Comes in cute cups. My friend got some takeout sushi for her husband and it came in a cute reuseable bag! The inside is larger than I realized and the decorations make for a nice atmosphere. OMG what a gem! So full disclosure: we loved Roost, so the only real bummer coming here is missing the ping pong table. But holy schnikes everything we had was delicious! Get the Taiwanese popcorn chicken and save room for the chicken fried rice. Gyoza and tempura apps were perfect. We barely had room for sushi we ordered, but that was fantastic too. Tapioca milk tea was amazing -- and I hate milk. Lol! Seriously, this place was amazing, even without the old ping pong table. read more

A delightful finding before a concert. We went during a non busy hour and the staff were very friendly. The interior was comfortable and quite spread out in terms of spacing. Unlike most places we've tried, the food isn't salty. We started with the spicy garlic edamame and at first I was a little disappointed they used a sauce. However, after the first bite, it was an instant change. Not quite exactly what I expected but it was filled with flavor. The gyozas were okay. The wrapper is thin and the filling is good but I can't say honestly that it stands out. We ordered two types of ramen: tan tan and Roishi duo. Neither were oily or salty. And the texture of the noodles were decent. We were most impressed by the chashu as it wasn't covered in fat and cooked decently. Roishi duo was interesting because they gave two different types in a split bowl. Overall, for a suburban area, it was better than expected. read more

I went here with my husband, brother, and 2 friends tonight. The first thing that bummed me a bit was that there were no coat hangers on the side of the booths. So we just had all the coats stuffed behind us. Our waitress was very nice but she was so soft-spoken. I got a mango tea with passion fruit poppers and for some reason they added jellies with it which isn't an issue but I wish they would have asked first if they didn't have enough for the drink. It also tasted like soap. Don't know why, but I still finished the drink My husband and I ordered the chicken skewers with peanut sauce and the crab Rangoon. These crab Rangoon are probably my #2 tied favorite crab Rangoon I ever had. They were super delicious and the highlight of the night. My husband liked the peanut sauce, but I personally thought it tasted like pine needles? I have definitely had better. The chicken could have been cooked longer. It was so rubbery that the moment I stuck my teeth into it I freaked out. I couldn't eat it. My husband atleast finished it but he agreed that it was a bit rubbery. My husband also tried the octopus balls my brother got and really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the tonkatsu Ramen and I got the chicken Ramen. The smell of the Ramen was very fish/seaweed forward which I didn't like but that might just be because I'm pregnant I got full very quickly with my Ramen. I didn't like the mushrooms or a bak choy the chicken was really dry too. The Ramen and broth itself was super yummy though. My husband has had better Ramen but he did eat the entirely of his bowl so its not like he didn't enjoy it. We also let your waitress know that my husband has a shellfish allergy. But we ordered an eel avocado roll and the kitchen put it on the same plate as our friend shain. Thank God he got salmon and not shellfish but like, we didn't know that was ours and when we asked the waitress about it she looked at the plate and I'm like, is that ours? And she was like yeah sorry and didn't offer to give us a plate. My husband and our friend were sitting on opposite corners onto he tables. I asked for a plate and was just like... wtf. My husband was also a little bummed that it was very avocado forward. I personally thought I was yummy. But not as good at Toro. They do cucumber with the avocado and eel. At this place they either have eel with avocado or eel with cucumber. Not all together. Which is a bit of a bummer. Plus there was very many sushi options for people that can't eat raw fish (like myself who is pregnant) so I was a little bummed about that as well. Anyway. She split up the bill for us which i really appreciate although she did charge my card 3 times. Twice for 25$ and another for 13$. I tried to used a gift card but it was declined and then I think she was having difficulties. Idk man. Anyway, should you go? Absolutely. Is it worth it? Potentially. After watching Bobby Flay do his thing on Beat Bobby I was in the mood for Pho or sushi and happened to stumble upon this in Yelp, offering both sushi and noodle soups sealed the deal for my indecision. It seemed new and shiny with great reviews which peaked my interest, this replaces what was formerly Roost. The menu had a few favorites of of mine that I looked forward to trying and figured if I wasn't convinced of the ramen I'd have sushi. Well, well! The 20 mile journey was well worth it. We ordered the Tan Tan which was just spicy enough, Miso and Tonkatsu ramens, bao, garlic edemame, Kani salad, a few sushi rolls and a boba Thai iced tea. Everything was executed well, came out swiftly, hot and fresh. The staff was also quite pleasant and welcoming. I looked forward to fried ice cream but just didn't have the space, will have to return for that! While we didn't order alcohol, the offerings looked diverse and sufficient. I usually don't prefer ramen but this might just be the best in CT. Can't wait to return! read more

I've dined here several times and had a variety of food including the ramen, which I never had an issue with. tonight, I tried the pho (takeout). noodles were chopped up and the little broth (covered 2/3rds of the noodles) it came with wasn't flavorful. Excellent ramen, flavorful and filling, well presented, and the takeout packaging is impeccable. Tonight we had tonkotsu, takoyaki, gyoza, some fried rice, and an assortment of boba. All were very very good. If you don't have ramen experience, tonkotsu should be your first order if you eat pork. While some prefer miso or shoyu, many consider tonkotsu's "milky" (only in color and viscosity; there is no dairy) pork broth to be the quintessential ramen base. Roishi offers a chicken, seafood, and even vegan ramen so various dietary needs can be met. The pork chashu and 1/2 soft boiled egg were the stars of the show. If I had a large appetite and only wanted a bowl of ramen, I would add more of these in a heartbeat. Now... keeping it real... have I had better ramen? Sure, a bit better in larger cities, and even downtown New Haven. But for Hamden this place is really great. The restaurant interior is spacious and clean (and not crowded). My family unanimously agreed that we will be regular customers moving forward. I do not order sushi at restaurants like this, so I can't rate it and never will. The boba was also quite good. Bubble tea originated in Taiwan and is popular throughout East & Southeast Asia, so there are a lot of different takes on it in Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, etc. restaurants. I tend to prefer the milk varieties, but the fruit tea was refreshing. Two final remarks on takeout & delivery: 1) The boba tea lids are heat sealed and 100% spill proof. The to-go containers are high quality and your ramen will not leak in transit. Our order was packed in attractive, sturdy, reusable Roishi grocery bags which was a very nice touch. 2) Please don't fault Roishi for the considerably higher prices on Uber Eats. Uber hits restaurants with a 30% or more commission (separate from delivery and service charges), and Roishi simply passes it on. Parking is easy and the pickup counter inside the restaurant is convenient and well-run. P.S. Regarding the reviewer who disliked her salty ramen, she probably ordered the shoyu which is flavored with soy sauce. read more

I have to commend this place on their delivery packaging for ramen - it's among the best I have seen. The sushi here is also super fresh and I have not had a mediocre appetizer yet. Very delicious and wonderful to have a solid ramen option on a chilly day. read more

My granddaughter and I went to Roishi last nite 6/27 . Ive never had any Raman before , although my grandaughter has . This was the first time she's been to this restaurant. Both of us were not disapointed . The place was spotless ,waitress, Gianna was incredible. I had a lot of questions as I wasn't sure what to order. The food was delicious and so much , portions were not scimpy. I've already made plans to go back with both of my granddaughters. I can't wait.
