Tried Mai Thai Restaurant yesterday lunch and had a really nice meal. The lad na seafood but substitute with pork was flavorful with a rich gravy and tender meat. The same as I had in Thailand. The fresh summer rolls were light and refreshing, with dipping sauce. You can also request with delicious peanut sauce. Server gave me to try. My sister ordered the shoyu ramen with shrimp tempura, which was delicious. Tempura was served separately so it was crispy. My mom also had Ladna seafood but shrimp only. It is really big portion. We tried this place with a family of 6 for a weeknight dinner and this is by far the worst Thai food I've had in the New Haven county area. The spring rolls were an absolute joke and overpriced. They had a very weird funky taste from first bite to after taste. Portions were small overall and prices were high. Most of the dishes we had lacked flavor. Compared to all the other fantastic Thai restaurants around, I wouldn't come here again. Our particular server was not mean but she also was not nice. She had a very particular way of doing every bit and it was just an odd experience as a diner. Food overall: 4.5/10 Service: 4.5/10 I'm surprised this place has good reviews on google. I had a really not so good lunch with my mom here. We just didn't enjoy our meals. My mom got chicken teriyaki and I got one for her chicken stir fry option. Hers lacked any flavor, was bland and had a tiny portion and mine was way more pineapple than anything and just wasn't good. We also shared grab rangoon, which was decent. Overall I was just disappointed in the food! It was also overpriced for what it was. And the place, it needs a little love as it's pretty worn down and not much more ambiance. Thanks to Yelp, we tried a new restaurant today called MaiThai in Orange. Since it's hidden away in Liberty Plaza, we never even knew it was there. The restaurant was clean and cozy. The staff working there were attentive, professional, and had a wonderful work ethic. The restaurant was full and everything was served in a timely manner. We started with the spring rolls. We then proceeded to the cashew nut dinner, and the rice noodle soup. Everything was delicious and fresh. The vegetables were crisp and very flavorful. Curry puffs was over done to crunchy for me but the interior filling was great. I'm a big fan of wonton soup and the Wonton soup was delish love to see the different concepts each restaurant does with theirs. The crab Rangoons were amazing and beautifully plated another favorite of mine. Spring rolls were alright could have been better. Chicken just tasted boiled and bland even with sauce. Stumbled onto Mai Thai while driving home from a weekend away in Connecticut. What an amazing surprise. It was absolutely wonderful. The dining room is super cute and trendy. The menu had a good selection of favorites. We started with the MaiTai Super appetizer sampler and it was great. I love being able to have a bunch of different apps and this was perfect. Everything was fresh and delicious: rangoons, chicken satay, gyoza, some wrapped shrimp thingees, and spring rolls. If I wasn't starving, I'd have been satisfied with this! I had tonkotsu ramen and added tempura shrimp to it. I dove it and thoroughly enjoyed it. The broth was really rich and it came with a good amount of pork belly and toppings. I loved it. Delicious food, a great, cozy atmosphere with such wonderful staff. They were super helpful for our first time visiting and answered any and all questions we had about the dishes and provided us awesome suggestions to try. Everything we ordered had a beautiful presentation, delicious seasoning and came in huge portions- definitely plenty of leftovers to enjoy the next day. Love this place!! Great service and so friendly! We ordered several appetizers: chicken skewers, crab Rangoon and shrimp tempura. For the main dishes, we got the Thai rice with shrimp (amazing) and macadamia beef (amazing amount of macadamia nuts and great sauce)I love the beef before but it seemed to be a little tough this time. The green curry here was not bad! Filled with fresh veggies, chicken, and bamboo shoots. Flavorful and went well with rice.

I would have given them a 5, but the lids were loose, and sauce spilled everywhere, when I was trying to get the containers out of the bag. It was extremely aggravating to have to clean up a big mess before I could even taste the food and, quite honestly, totally avoidable. That being said, the spring rolls may have been the best I have ever had. I tried several entrees and all were good. The food quality was consistent from dish to dish. I would order from them again, but I would definitely tell them to check the lids before packing the food. Or, perhaps I would bypass the situation by dining in. read more

We visited Mai Thai for dinner and tried a bunch of menu items, some of which were from their new ramen and Asian bistro menus, and others were from their classic Thai menu. The ramens were delicious, and we enjoyed getting to eat some food that you don't see often on menus, like the Takoyaki and eggplant fries in the Chinese sauce. We loved the shrimp pad Thai, rangoons, crying tiger, and mango sticky rice for dessert! We were impressed by their variety of mocktails and thought the service was great. The service was quick and our servers were so kind and helpful. Our beverages arrived right away. My jasmine green tea was perfectly steeped and my daughter's mocktail looked lovely. Tables were clean and organized. The crab rangoons were amazing and so was the som tom, papaya salad. Within 20 minutes of being seated the restaurant was filled with families and dates and the take out table was continuously filled with orders. The experienced staff kept it rolling! The ginger salmon with rice was delicious and so was the chicken pad thai! We had leftovers to bring home. Thai restaurants are a dime a dozen, but Mai Thai is definitely a keeper. I've been ordering from this restaurant for the past few months and I can attest to the quality and consistency. Below are some of my favorites (see pictures). 1. Pad Thai with Chicken. A go-to dish that is delicious with eggs, scallions, peanuts, bean sprouts in a sweet and spicy (you can choose the degree of spice from Lv 1-5). I have never tried 3-5, and 2 is quite spicy already for me. The dish is just the right degree of sweet and not very salty and not saucy either. The portion size is large enough that I usually am full eating half of the pad thai. 2. Drunken Noodles with Chicken. I love the stir-fried wide rice noodles with a spicy chili sauce, basil, bell peppers, and eggs. Also more on the sweet side than the salty side. Portion size is similar to the pad thai (see pictures below). 3. Red Curry with Shrimp. The curry (can be non-spicy!) is delicious with just the right hint of coconut milk. I'm often hesitant to order curries as other restaurants add way too much coconut milk, which then overpowers everything else. There are 2 things that I wish could change however: A. The curry comes with eggplant, bamboo shoots, and bell peppers. But the % of each vegetable is something like 15%, 70%, 15%. There is just way too much bamboo in proportion to everything else! I love bamboo, but I do wish there was a bit more eggplant. B. The shrimp was +3 bucks. The coronavirus affects most of the prices and all dishes with chicken are +$1, but all dishes with shrimp are +$3. What you can do (which I highly recommend) is to simply buy frozen cooked shrimp and add it to the curry after sauteeing the shrimp yourself. Super simple and it tastes the same! 4. Lemongrass Chicken. The menu doesn't allow for lemongrass beef, but this is just as good! Love the taste of lemongrass with onions, bell peppers, and carrots. Curries and these stand-alone meat dishes come with a side of rice. Overall, definitely 4 out of 5 stars! read more
