I've been seeing Dr. Rokaw as my primary care physician for a while now, ever since I had to change insurances after turning 18. He's always so attentive, thorough, and genuinely cares about his patients. He takes the time to explain everything clearly and always follows up to make sure I'm doing okay. As someone currently in nursing school, I really appreciate how supportive he is -- he always makes sure I have everything I need, and it's extra inspiring knowing he used to be a nurse himself! He truly understands what it's like to be on both sides of healthcare. I'm a woman in my 20s, and he always makes me feel comfortable, respected, and cared for, especially during the more stressful or scary moments. You can tell he loves what he does and really wants the best for his patients. Also, shoutout to the front desk girl (I'm so sorry I don't know her name!) -- she's always kind, efficient, and welcoming every time I come in. I sought care from Dr. Joshua Rokaw, an endocrinologist, after my dermatologist recommended seeing one for my Hashimoto's thyroiditis (an autoimmune condition). I usually rely on my GP for referrals, but this time I searched online and chose him because he was the only provider offering a relatively early in-person appointment. I arrived on time for what I had specifically requested and confirmed as an in-person visit. However, the receptionist (or office manager) greeted me rudely and unpleasantly, insisting it was scheduled as a Zoom appointment. No one called the day before to confirm, despite standard practice. When I handed over my insurance card, she thrust an iPad at me in a hostile manner to sign again, with no courtesy or explanation. Her tone and attitude were so consistently unpleasant that I wondered why someone so unhappy would remain in a patient-facing medical role,there are plenty of opportunities elsewhere in healthcare. Eventually, I was seen by Dr. Rokaw, who appeared to be a rather large, older physician (in practice for over 40 years). I mentioned I'd done some personal research on Hashimoto's to better understand my condition, and he responded dismissively with something like, 'If you already know the answers, why are you here?' His bedside manner felt condescending, abrupt, and uninterested--he seemed to go out of his way to make me feel foolish rather than addressing my concerns helpfully. Overall, the visit was unproductive and left me feeling dismissed. Given his long tenure, advanced age, and what appeared to be a sedentary build suggesting limited personal focus on physical health, it might be time for Dr. Rokaw to consider retirement. He could benefit from stepping away to prioritize exercise, improve his own well-being, and perhaps work on more respectful patient interactions. I strongly advise others--especially those with chronic autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto's--to run the other way and seek a more engaged, compassionate provider elsewhere. read more

I saw Dr. Rokaw one time in Sept 2025 related to pre-diabetes. Right away he wanted to put me on a drug I don't think I need. He also made a sex related joke that was inappropriate. In any event he must be well past retirement age. Having no axe to grind I would recommend if you are reading this that you go elsewhere. read more

I was referred to see an endocrinologist from my gynecologist due to reproductive problems I had been experiencing. It was very easy to get an appointment with Dr. Rokaw. Checking in was quick, and my consultation went great! He was probably one of the most thorough doctors I've ever seen. I explained why I was there, what we were looking for, and he asked me a ton of questions, and gave me a lot of information. We did a large hormone blood panel and results came in throughout the next five days. I love that I get an email that tells me when results are in and if the doctor had a message for me. None of my other doctors have this and I find it very helpful to look back on and be able to access everything. I really liked the doctor, he was very easy to talk to about personal things and it being my first time seeing him. His nurse who checked me in and took my blood was wonderful. Dr. Rokaw has been nothing but professional since the first day I came in. Every concern I have is addressed immediately. You can tell this man cares about the well being of his patients. I was just recently diagnosed as a diabetic, and he has taken great care of me. Has answered all questions that I have and has prescribed, without question, any medicines or devices I might want to try , without question ZERO push back. Oscar assigned Dr. Rokaw as my PCP after they told me my prior PCP was no longer in network. I called and setup an appointment for my annual physical first thing on a Monday morning in 2 months. The Friday before the appointment no one called to confirm my Monday morning appointment. That afternoon I called the office, but it was busy for over 20 minutes. Eventually I got the answering service and learned that the office closes at 1:00 PM on Fridays. They took a message but no one called back. Monday morning I arrived 20 minutes early and the office wasn't open yet. I waited 10 minutes and knocked on the door. Another patient arrived and we waited in the hallway. I tried the door and knocked 2 more times. The other patient said there is a staff door and he walked over and knocked on it. A male staff member came out and said, "It's 8:01. Relax. Is it an emergency? Do you need me to call someone? Are you having an emergency?" I said, "You don't need to be sarcastic. I have an 8:00 AM appointment and no one called last week to confirm." The other patient said no one confirmed his appointment either and he didn't appreciate the sarcasm. The male staff member said, "We were having a meeting with the doctor. It's 8:01. She's walking over now to open the door. Oh, it's 8:02. Relax." Then the door opened and the female staff member said, "It's 8:01. You don't have to knock." And once we both checked in I could hear the male staff member talking about us, complaining that those guys out there had an emergency. I told the other patient. He said he had been a patient of Dr. Rokaw for decades and while sometimes the staff is rude, that I would like the doctor. I've never had a doctor appointment and arrived to find the office closed, even first thing in the morning. And normally appointments are confirmed the day or weekend before, especially if the appointment was made 2 months ago. When I was invited back, I expressed my frustration about the rude behavior of the staff to the assistant. She offered to have me speak to the office manager after I saw the doctor. I mentioned something to the doctor and he said he was aware, because the other patient had told him. After I saw the doctor, the assistant told me that the office manager wouldn't speak to me because she was too busy. So the assistant assured me she would explain the situation and that the office manager would call me later that day. She did not. The next day I called and spoke to the office manager. She apologized and claimed she was not aware of the situation. Even though the assistant went to talk to her and told me she would brief her. The office manager said she would address it. She explained that several members of the staff had had COVID, which is why no one called me to confirm the appointment and that the staff was stressed out and stretched thin. She said they normally open at 8:30 AM and they did me a favor by squeezing me in at 8:00 AM. I explained that I made the appointment two months ago, but she still stressed that they were doing me a favor. For the record, the posted hours on the wall at the office are 8:00 AM. But in any case, a simple, "I'm sorry for the delay. We are opening now." would be the way the staff should respond to our knocking on the doors. This was a bad first impression of this practice. The doctor told me that if I didn't hear from them with my test results in 10 days to call. I called 2 weeks after my physical. The staff member said he would talk to the doctor and nurse about it. I never heard back. I contacted Oscar insurance a few days later and they suggested I call the doctor's office again. But it was Christmastime. 22 days after my physical, I contacted Oscar insurance and spoke to a supervisor. She called the doctor's office, requested my test results and later that day they were emailed to me. I've never had to wait 22 days for test results from an annual physical before. That evening Dr. Rokaw called me. He said he was returning a call and sounded confused as to why. I asked if he had reviewed my test results and he had and then discussed them with me. I told him about the delay and that I had to call my insurance company to get my results and he apologized. And he mentioned that one of the office staff was no longer with the practice. This is way too much drama and stress for what should have been a routine annual physical with a new physician. read more

Dr. Rokaw is a lame Excuse for a doctor. It is time for him to retire. He does not care about his patient's, nor does he know how to treat his patience with any kind of respect. He thinks he has a funny sense of humor, when all he does is tell perverted jokes. I brought it to his attention several times in person and over the phone about the horrible treatment that his entire staff gives patients, whether it's the office manager Young, Christina, Roger, Myra, & the list goes on. I never once had a good experience with any of his staff. When I brought this to his attention he didn't do anything about it, he actually discharged me as a patient without even telling me just so that he wouldn't have to deal with my complaints and my concerns about his office. I have not gone into his office for an appointment since covid, and that is due to the reason of his rude and unprofessional staff, but why should I be surprised, they're no different than the actual doctor himself. Stay away from this entire office, I'm not Even sure why they allow him to treat patients. And I'm clearly not the only one with the problem, there's plenty of negative reviews on him and his entire staff. The woman (light highlighted hair) that works the front desk is very incompetent. I called and made an appointment in January. Everything seemed to be fine. I went in today to the appointment and after signing paperwork the woman says they do not have an authorization for me. This should have been handled before my appointment date. If they did not have an authorization, the front desk should have contacted me to let know before I came in for my appointment and was turned away. The woman at the desk would not even let me speak. She knew she was in the wrong but she was still speaking over me. I took time off of work to attend this appointment. They should have checked if their was an authorization in their system before my appointment so time would not be wasted. read more

Dr. Rokaw appeared to be competent and caring. Unfortunately, due to his laziness and sloppiness I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer in my 40s. I am very responsible and was vigilant about checking out my health concerns with Dr. Rolaw. However, over 2.5 years he completely misdiagnosed me, so instead of finding the cancer earlier, it was found at stage IV, when I went to another doctor. So keep going to Dr. Rolaw if you just want reassurance that everything is okay, but if you want someone who actually looks at the whole picture and reviews all your symptoms, you are certainly better off somewhere else. Sadly, I learned that the hard way. Btw, I informed Dr. Rokaw about my diagnosis and have not heard from him since. I guess he's ashamed. I sure hope so. read more

I couldn't agree more with the other negative reviews here. I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one. Dr. Rokaw needs to retire. He has no bedside manner and gives off an elitist attitude. He made several rude comments to me while under his care. After the final comment, I knew he was not the doctor for me. Additionally, I left several messages for him to get results and he took THREE WEEKS to get back to me! I kept calling and leaving messages, but he wouldn't return my call. Like others who have posted reviews, I started seeing Dr. Rokaw after my prior Endocrinologist was condescending and thought the giant cyst on my thyroid didn't need to be removed because I didn't have wrinkles on my neck so why have a scar. When I spoke with a surgeon who did further tests, she said the cyst was as big as a grapefruit and growing down in the back in a way that might require them to crack my chest to get it out. Not happy. Then when the cyst was removed along with 1/2 of my thyroid, they found a tiny focus of cancer. Now I wasn't just unhappy. I was angry. I asked for a switch to a different doctor and started seeing Dr. Rokaw. Picture the joy with birds singing and stars twinkling. Dr. Rokaw spoke to me as a peer, gave me full information, involved me in his suggestions, and we ultimately made decisions together. I moved out of the area about five years ago and STILL miss Dr. Rokaw. It is not easy to find another doctor like him. A lot of doctors who are not Endocrinologists think they can just handle your thyroid problems, no big deal. But it IS a big deal and very important for the quality of life. Dr. Rokaw rocks! And his sense of humor? The best. He is brilliant, extremely competent - AND has a personality that allows questions, clear explanations, and friendly banter. Instead of just prescribing refills on the medicine I had been taking for the past 5 years (my previous doctor had retired) he needed to play psychoanalyst and prescribe a drug that not only caused a bad reaction, but was not his field of expertise. This is why I originally asked for refills on the drug I was already taking. I would have been in better hands if I had gone to the emergency room. He was more concerned with making unfunny jokes than fulfilling his patient's needs (he even asked why I didn't laugh at one of his unfunny jokes). My goal was to receive help for a dire situation, not to be entertained. He also had the condescending desire to question everything you said regardless of what it was, just so he could "correct" you. I sense he didn't feel comfortable that a patient is capable of knowing something about medical science, so he felt threatened. Or he had a personal bias. When I finally went to see Dr. Rokaw he was like a breath of fresh air. He was pleasant, he took a lot of time in our appointment to understand my medical background, I have both a thyroid problem and diabetes and I am on numerous medications. He is extremely knowledgeable and for that I am very grateful. I never feel rushed or talked down to and I actually look forward to my appointments with him! Go figure! I am actually surprised I have to write this review. I came to this doctor's office because it is literally 5 minutes away. Looking on yelp I saw that there are really good reviews which led me to make an appointment in February. The doctor said I would receive my results in 2-3 days. I thought cool, but I gave it about a week and a half. Still no results. I called to ask about my results and was told she can have them mailed out. Awesome. I live 5 minutes away so shouldn't take long right? ....I waited another week and still no results. Called today and they wouldn't really let me get a word in to ask why I haven't received my results. She said she would have the nurse call me and mail them out. At this point I canceled my follow up appointment. If it's going to take nearly a month to get results that I am told I can receive in 2 to 3 days what's the point? A regular check up to see if I'm good and healthy is ending up to be more drama than needed. If you are into no news is good news then that's cool. But the point of making an appointment is to check how your health is and getting results is what you're paying insurance for. But if you'd actually like to receive your health results 20 days later and counting (still haven't received them)after they tell you they will let you know the results in only a few days, and then proceed to make multiple attempts to get your results then go for it. Doctor Rokaw and the staff upon meeting them for the first time was just fine. It's the experience after, not so much. The Doctor is fine and funny but the staff is rude and if it takes this much effort to follow up on patients then they're incompetent and lacking in patient services as well. Update, I changed my rating from 3 to 1 star because I STILL haven't received my results in the mail. Is this normal? Because if it's not what is the reason for not receiving it? And if this is normal and for some reason the 16 other reviews just didn't mind getting delayed or no medical results, I now have received my bill for my checkup at $200+ but have yet to receive my actual results... so i see what's more important. So could I now get my results mailed to me? After all I am paying for them.... The doctor gave me a call to relay my results and had nothing to say about his staff. And while it's cool that he gave me a call, I still needed actual copies of my results... Just spoke with Janet at their office today about having my results mailed out. It usually takes two days she says. I guess in two days I can go see the Dr. about this in person. If you're going to ask your patients to pick up their results in person why not just say so in the first place, rather than giving them the run around making them feel like how dare they call and ask about their results. I highly recommend that you stay away. I went to him when I had a TPO of 900, fatigue, memory loss, itchy skin, weight gain (2 jeans sizes in a few months) a visible lump on my thyroid,tightness and a possible mass on the upper part of my neck. He felt the nodule on my thyroid but didn't order an ultrasound. I had to call multiple times to get a call back, when he said it's overkill but he would order it. When I came back into his office he said that all my blood work came back normally, but that i had a very small 1.3 cm nodule. I said, I have a lump here all the way up to here. He didn't get up, and didn't examine my neck. He said with your finger show me what you think a cm is. I said I know what a cm is. He said, well that can't be what's causing your problem, and you've been to a lot of doctors -basically, saying I had Munchasen syndrome. Anyhow, I went to another doctor who put me on thyroid medication and I'm feeling much better (just three weeks later), and the nodule ended up being suspicious for cancer, and I have to have it removed. The biopsy I had removed a lot of fluid from neck -which is why I had a lump/mass up to my ear. Dr. Rokaw will make you feel dumb for asking questions and will not do his job unless it's in black and white on a test. Please see someone else read more

I just went to see Dr. Rokaw at the urging of my PCP. I was just diagnosed with osteopenia and pretty out of sorts about it. Dr. Rokaw put me at ease and calmly explained the steps I needed to take to better my health. He asked me to come back in 3 years but I requested an annual visit :) He's such a great guy. Very personable and practical. I truly appreciate that. (Side note, I did have to wait almost 1.5 hours to see him. Not sure if it was because I was a new patient. My appointment was at 3 p.m. I showed up at 2:40 to fill out the new patient forms but didn't get in to see him until 3:40 and waited a bit after that. He failed me. I was 32, losing hair fast, sleeping 12 hrs a day, ankle pain when I stood up; he said things like "You're getting older," and "I'm losing hair too." I asked if it could be thyroid (turned out it was, ahem) and asked for more tests. He said "I'm the doctor; don't you think I'd order all the tests needed?" (btw IMO 3 vials of bloodwork doesn't cut it). He also gave my mother the flu shot WITHOUT HER CONSENT AND KNOWLEDGE. He distracted her, gave her the shot and then said "Now let's talk about the flu shot I just gave you." I suffered needlessly watching my health and life go down the tubes and he treated me like I was a fly he was brushing away from his face. I'm glad I'm gone from him, but someday I hope he's going to have to answer for his non-actions and lack of compassion. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Rokaw every 6 months for thyroid cancer treatment and follow up for the last four years. I was referred to him by one of the valleys most amazing Ob/Gyn's Dr. Rebecca Perlow. Dr. Rokaw has such a great bed side manner. During a visit I mentioned how my family had so many questions about my diagnosis and he picked up the phone right inside of the exam room and asked for their number. He answered all of their questions and put them at ease.He is funny and full of wisdom in his field. He has been practicing medicine for many years and is an expert in his field. Every time I need to choose a new insurance I make sure he is a preferred provider. I highly recommend him. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Rokaw for 15 years. The head of one of the departments at Valley Presbyterian Hospital chose him for me as I needed an attending physician while I underwent treatment for Thyroid Cancer. I was in isolation, not for my health but for the safety of all the nurses. I was radioactive. Dr. Rokaw came into my room and sat down next to my bed. He had never met me before, I had just been assigned to him. He had no reason to expect that he would see me after my hospital stay. He had a great bedside manner, very caring and compassionate, willing to listen and answer questions. I'm sure he had some jokes to try to brighten my day. When I found that I wasn't happy with the Endocrinologist that I was supposed to be seeing for followup, I wondered how I should go about finding a really good Endocrinologist and realized an expert in the field had already recommended Dr. Rokaw. I hope he never retires because I doubt I could find another doctor that would care as much about my health and well being. read more

This review is about his staff the last time I went for an appt. If you want to see the doctor, you might not. I had an appt. scheduled months in advance and I completely understand that the doctor needed to take time off. They called to reschedule and I confirmed the date and time with the staff member. I took way too much time off of work to drive there (30 minutes) and I signed in and the person at the front desk acknowledged my signing in and told me to have a seat in the waiting room. Admittedly, I was 2 minutes late due to the car in front of me not understanding how their parking lot works. 30 minutes went by. Nothing. I went to check at the front desk again since several people who came in after me had been called and not me. That's when the same front desk person informed me that the doctor had left already. Couldn't she have told me that when I checked in? Couldn't they have called me in advance so I wouldn't have to drive there and wait for nothing? It was a wasted 95 minutes of my time and parking expenses and my solution was to find another doctor. I'm much happier as a result and have no intention of ever returning there. read more

I live an hour away and drove all the way to Van Nuys for a biopsy only to be told that the doctor was not willing to perform the procedure on that day because they needed to do an additional test first. Wouldn't the appropriate time to tell me this be BEFORE I take the time to come to the appointment? I was heading out of town the next week so this was really the only time for awhile that I had to get this done. I also had to take off work to have this biopsy done -- a complete waste of time. On a different appointment day, my early morning (8:30am) appointment was canceled only to be replaced by a 10:30 AM appointment (again, had to miss work) for which I then had to wait an hour for. Again these people do not care about your time and do not care about your health... Only the money they bring in. If you're OK with complete incompetence, be my guest. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Rokaw and it was one of the most informative doctors appointment I've ever had. I went in for hyperthyroid and had been having a hard time with it.He took the time to listen to all my concerns and answered every question I had (which were a lot) He took his time which I've never seen a doctor do before.
